Hello guys
I just wanted to ask: does rooting my device affect software update by any means?
I mean, for example, will the OTA service be lost? And if not, will the coming update make my device lose its root?
Thank you.
You will Still be able to update through OTA, kies, Odin but when you update you will loose root and have to reroot.

If you root and then change your ROM to a customer one, then you will loose the Samsung OTA Update Support.
Once more .
Root may see OTA update fail to install.

just in case ics never comes and in case it does come.
i just rooted using the thunderbolt tool i did not change or install any roms, now i want to unroot ,
do i need to back up anything that i might lose? if yes how or suggested methods.
only new app installed while rooted is titantium backup pro ,
thank you
You can use the tbolt tool to unroot but it does wipe data.
Honestly it's probably a better idea to flash the Liquid ICS ROM if you want ICS.
I'm not aware of any good root-free backups but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will come along soon.
You could try mybackup pro but I don't think an app to backup app data without root exists. It just isn't possible because I think the app data is stored in the system. The only way to access the system is with root permissions.

No just stay rooted. Find a tutorial for disabling ota and you'll be fine. Sometimes unrooting and accepting an ota is the worst thing you could do. You never know if it will have a new hboot or if that hboot is even rootable or unlockable.

I remember with the last ota a lot of people were complaining about getting the ota while they were sleep and waking up to a messed up phone. I know for sure there were a lot of the sense roms with the otacerts file still there.

if they release it there will be a rooted version within a day or 2, maybe even before it gets pushed to your area
just stay rooted
I was given a rooted phone and then recently through Kies, i upgraded to 4.1.2.
This obviously removed my rooted status!!
So i now want to re-root and was wondering before i do, has upgrading totally removed all the old root data(!)?
I'm a tech novice and was wondering should i use the S3 UNIFIED TOOLKIT program or use another method?
Someone told me i should not have been able to upgrade with Kies as my phone was rooted, is this true?
I have backed up everything using Titanium Backup
Thanks for ur help.
Just root it using any method you like
Hmm you had root to begin with? Kies doesn't update rooted phones.. as for rooting, there's an easy guide on the general forum you may wanna have a look at.

root using auto root with odin,,, fastest and easiest way
DO NOT USE TOOLKITS. They take away the learning process plus half of them are ****e anyway!

Try to root again, check 2nd post
Be happy
Make the root, it only loses the Samsung warranty, however leaves your phone the way you want. Install a custom ROM.
Thank you people. Now fully rooted and smiling

How did you confirm that it didn't work? Device status "Modified" after using ExynosAbuse usually means it worked. I would try to install Titanium backup (Tibu) or some other program that requires root and if it works then you know you have root.
If you have root use Tibu to freeze SDM 1.0 to keep the update from happening if you want to use the first developer created method to unlock your boot loader so that you can flash ROMs. You can use the later new method to unlock the boot loader if you accept the update.
I have titanium back up but it says I dont have root access... basically what im wanting to know is, is it okay it try another root method even though it says my device is modified...

Can I update to the new firmware being rooted on stock without any problems if I use samsung kies? Will I lose roo?
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
only thing u will loose it root, but u can re-root flash update.
On your rooted S5, does knox shows 0(official) or 1(tempered with) ?
And to your question, I think Kies with not update you device since it's rooted, try it yourself and see.
once it rooted it will show 1 and mine it rooted and i updated with Kies without any problem.
Ok ty
