Hi everyone,
What settings can I use to configure my phone to T-mobile? I have an ATT unlocked 920 and I only get E signal. At times it switches to 4G and it drops. I read many posts about changing connection speed but I don't have the option. Is there a firmware that I should install in order to get the most use out of my phone?
Thanks to anyone that can help out.

I unlocked my Lumia 920 at&t version yesterday. But it didn't worked with mobilicity. I don't know what's the problem. Can any one help.
It seems that ATT version, unlike Rogers version, has AWS disabled. And apparently it is not controlled by the firmware image itself, because I flashed Rogers rom. We need to find a way to turn it back on...

I still don't get this part - are phones sold by ATT and Rogers different in hardware? Because people reported using Wind/Mobilicity on inlocked Rogers phones without any issues. I was under the impression that ATT phone should also work if flashed with Rogers firmware. Is it not the case?

AWS stands for Advanced Wireless Services (wikipedia). It uses 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz bands, and only a few phones support these bands.
So there no way to enable 4g on a AT&T Lumia. I love this phone but if there no way to fix this then what the point on having a slow connection
I have it enabled after they gave me the unlock code. I haven't done anything special to enable it apart from the regular phone updates. I'm not in the USA.

AT&T L920 has AWS 3G disabled by default. You must flash an alternate ROM to enable it.

They are wrong. They do not want people flashing ROMs on their phone so of course they'll say something like that.
Flash a different ROM to enable AWS band.

Yes, you will have 100% access to ALL of T-Mobile's network.
BUT the European ROM does not call HSPA+ "4G", it says H+ in the status bar. The European networks never followed T-Mobile's bull**** of calling HSPA+ a 4G network.
Look at the RM-821 column in this chart to see what each connection type will be labeled with a European ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37197816&postcount=51
If you WANT I believe you can flash the Rogers ROM after flashing the Euro Dev ROM if you want the T-Mobile connection labels. Rogers and AT&T L920 ROMs also get updates before the European ROMs, so that is another thing to consider.

If you are able to connect to an AWS network. I personally use AT&T so I can't test it out, just repeating what others have said. What I know is that people with Rogers pentaband RM-820s flashed the AT&T ROM and that disabled AWS. Flashing Rogers back didn't re-enable it. So it seems that some ROMs like AT&T reprogram the bands and some like Rogers don't. I don't know any of this for sure, though.

The most important question now is - which ROMs can reprogam these bands back. With TMo its hard to confirm you are actually getting AWS and not the 1900 MHz 3G. I'm waiting for someone to confirm that with a true AWS carrier (Wind, Mobilicity).

Yeah if you're in an area with 1900MHz 3G then it is impossible to tell I think. I do not believe the 920 has any good diagnostics app.
Reading through the forums though multiple people have stated that AT&T ROM disables AWS and that euro dev ROM enables AWS. One person stated that the euro dev ROM did not enable AWS and instead he flashed through a ton of different ROMs including some latin america ROMs before finally getting AWS enabled. It's all in the thread I linked to earlier from January.

Nope you won't get hspa speeds on Tmobile with the current international version. You have to wait for the Tmobile variant. International version gets
3g speeds only on att.

This is correct. However, it's only used for one way traffic (either uploading or downloading, i'm not sure which). UMTS 1700 is used for the other direction of traffic on T-Mobile. This means no 3G/4G without both frequencies.
Your 2 options:
1. Get a T-Mobile phone.
2. Switch to AT&T.

The I9100 will NEVER work on T-Mobile. The SGS2 that they are releasing has different HARDWARE. There will never be a way to make the phone you have now work on T-Mobile 3G.
As others have said you'll need a different phone in order to get it to work on T-Mobile USA's 3G/4G frequencies.
You'd need a penta-band phone in order for it to work on all of them. I think Intel is curently working on that or already did but that's all there is. You'd need both 1700/2100mhz in order to use it with 3G.
I don't get how people don't research before they buy!!

With the GT-I9100, you'll ONLY ever get Edge on T-Mobile USA. Doesn't matter what you flash. The phone simply doesn't have the hardware to receive 1700mhz UMTS, which is one of two necessary bands (the other being 2100mhz UMTS) for 3g/4g on T-Mobile USA's network.
The GT-I9100 will only ever get HSPA/HSPA+ on AT&T's network in the US. I'm sure of this - I have an I9100, and am on AT&T.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Nope. Not short of getting an AT&T account just for that phone, anyway.
...
(sorry, here comes some snark)
Unless you're comfortable cracking open the phone, ripping out the antenna, replacing it with one that will receive 1700/2100 mhz UMTS, decompiling the OS, tweaking it to recognize the new frequencies, and recompiling.

Just found this forum... have the exact same issue. I have the GT-I9100 Intl version from Australia and now in the USA for a couple of weeks using T Mobile.
The dude behind the counter asked if my phone was unlocked, which it is. I told him that it supports Quad Band UMTS 850, 900, 1800 and 2100mhz and he said I'd get full HSPA+ reception on the 2100mhz band...
Sure enough, it's only Edge. I THINK there might be a setting in the Device Config (on keypad * # * # 197328640 # * # *) and possibly change something to use the US 2100mhz or something like that...
I can live with using Edge, but just interesting whether it's just a config setting that needs to be changed in the handset itself to pickup a different connection type for US 2100mhz bands?

I9100 only gets Edge on T-mobile USA because it doesn't receive 1700 WCDMA. If you want 3g/"4g" you'll have to go to ATT or another carrier that uses the same frequencies...
T-mobile USA uses AWS for high speed mobile internet, which REQUIRES BOTH 1700 & 2100mhz WCDMA. One is used for uplink, the other for downlink. Only receiving one of them won't work, which is why you're only getting Edge.
Dude behind the counter is wrong and doesn't seem to know how AWS works.
EDIT: BTW, UMTS and WCDMA are somewhat interchangeable in this instance.
I have found (somewhere in this forum) that I am able to flash a rogers rom to att's lumia 920 HOWEVER, does the color matter?
I have a cyan att lumia 920 and am considering flashing the rogers rom but I am not sure if the color variant matters since rogers does NOT have the cyan model.
Please, anybody with enough knowledge out there, could you let me know????

thank you for your answer! So, if I flash to Rogers then want to come back to att, I won't be able to? That doesn't make any sense! Well, none in my simple mind!
att to rogers than rogers to att
actually, I have a nokia lumia 920 and I have flash countless ROMs from different places around the world and I can always go back to the original Rogers ROM. i'm at the moment using a Latin America ROM from Argentina unbranded, and working LTE. it is different then the one from Rogers. more options on the phone. by the way its the 1232.5957.1308.0002, I think rogers is now releasing an update. any how, if I can flash so many ROMs from different providers you should be able to go back to your ATT ROM
Can anyone confirm who flashed Rogers rom on ATT 920 was able to get 3G / 4G on Tmobile network? I switched to tmobile and I am finding I only get edge but I have not seen a confirmed response if flashing a rogers rom will work? Thanks in advance

Yep...maybe LTE, otherwise good luck!
I have the unlocked version sitting on my desk right now.
The only difference seems to be that the radios are not the same?
But I've been reading that the radio might be flashable so it can accept Tmobile frequencies.
One question though, can ROMs from the unlocked version be used on the Tmobile version? Thanks

From what I have read, the T-Mobile H1 can flash any ROM.
The radio flashing is an open question. So far attempts to get the AWS working on the dev / unlocked models have not worked. HTC says they have different radio hardware, but at this point it is anyone's guess if we will ever get AWS working on dev.
If you use the unlocked / dev on TMO, you will get 21 Mb on the 1900 refarmed band, and eventually LTE if you live in an area that has it. Right now there are maybe three areas with LTE.
If you got the 32 Gb unlocked, in my opinion it has no advantage over the T-Mobile model. The Dev edition has 64 gb of storage.

The tmobile version flashed to the unlocked ROM should retain AWS on HSPA+, correct? That's the route I will probably be taking. The additional LTE bands are inconsequential for me - mainly south america and Philippines.

I don't think anyone has tried that yet. I suspect AWS wouldn't work without some modification because the ROM would not support AWS. But I don't think it would hurt anything either.

Yes, flashing ROMs doesn't affect frequency compatibility. All GSM One variants have the same hardware and ROMs/kernels are cross-compatible (international HSPA-only, and EMEA/AT&T/T-moblie LTE). ROMs don't include radio software, and so far at least, radio software hasn't affected available frequency bands.

If flashing ROMs (not radios) to/from intl, US, EMEA models don't affect supported bands, I don't see why it would affect tmobile -> unlocked. Advantages would be no tmobile bloat, no hacks to please the tmobile overloads, etc.

It sounds like you're disagreeing with me or something, but yes, flashing an international ROM on tmo One is great because it gets rid of bloat, can edit APNs to enable tethering, and always based on latest firmware rather than waiting for tmo to push an update. Only downside I know of is no wifi calling. I'm running TrickDroid on mine and it works great.

Sorry, that was more directed at stevedebi's comment. Wifi calling can be replaced with SIP calling so that should be fine.
Warranty problems?
One potential issue with getting the T-Mobile version could have to do with the warranty. U.S. carriers seem squeamish about people modding their phones and threaten to void the warranty for unlocking bootloaders, rooting, etc. That said, I don't have specific info at hand that HTC unlocked phones are much more lenient but seems worth looking into.

Well, most of the new T-Mobile plans come with unlimited hotspot and WiFi calling. I'm not planning to unlock mine. My One is performing fine on the stock ROM, and TMO will update the software (eventually).
As noted above, I'm not sure that T-Mobile looks kindly on having TAMPERED show up on a phone. They might well deny a warranty claim.
For me get the T-Mobile HTC one I had the 64gb edition got tired of the stupid refarm 1900mhz frequency my icon was switching from H to 3G. Now with my original T-Mobile HTC one I get steady 4g icon and good speeds

Switching from H to 3G is just what the radio does; it's how the interface is supposed to work. The T-Mobile version works exactly the same way--and you can see this if you flash an international ROM on your tmo One--but tmo assumes Americans are idiots who a. don't know what HSPA+ is, and b. get confused if the radio idles at "3G" when they expect to have "4G" coverage. So stock tmo ROM just shows 4G all the time, but it is just themed connection icons really. Seems like they're right to do this, which is a bit sad.
Of course, that doesn't mean that you would be getting the same speeds with the dev edition, since even in refarmed areas, you could well get better UMTS coverage over AWS than PCS.

Not to mention that in many cases you get EDGE on 1900 even in refarmed markets.
yeah I was thinking of getting the DE because its 64gb but then I realize that with wifi everywhere, I can just upload pictures or videos to you box account, then delete them to make room, and keep installing apps I want and delete those you dont.
After dealing with 16gb in a Gnexus, you learn how to manage to space

You are right if you go to phone settings-about- network you could see UMTS and HSPS+ it swicthes between UMTS 3g and 4g HSPS+ and my 4g icon stays the same, this also happen to my old HTC one 64gb developer edition but it never showed the 4g icon like T-Mobile HTC one all it showed was 3g and H icons this happens in a 1900mhz refarm area. Look at T-Mobile HTC One as example thank god it has 1700mhz built-in that's why I got ridoff my developer Edition

yes flashing the TMO version on an unlocked rom will allow you to retain the AWS bands tmobile uses for 3g/HSDPA/HSPAP(HSDPA+)
i bought the TMO HTC one and am now using ordroid 4.2.0 on se7en kernel and i have AWS signal. and not just refarmed signal also umts signal as well.
I have seen this question asked multiple times on this forum so I thought I'd just make a thread.
The AT&T Lumia 920 has the hardware to support pentaband 3G including AWS. This means you CAN use it on T-Mobile and the other Canadian AWS carriers like WIND and any of their MVNOs. Unfortunately it is DISABLED out of the box. You will need to flash an alternate ROM to enable the AWS band!
You will need to install Nokia Care Suite and flash your phone to a different ROM. This will WIPE your phone, but it will enable AWS 3G!
Just flashing the Euro Dev ROM should get enable AWS 3G. It is for the RM-821 but you can flash RM-821 ROMs on the RM-820 without issue. I believe the only difference between the two models is what signal amplifiers and antennas they have installed as their ROMs are cross-compatible.
Check out this thread from January for posts from people who have gotten their AT&T L920 working on T-Mobile AWS. These were some of the lucky few who got their unlock code before May 9.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097815&highlight=aws+3g
NOTE: ONLY FLASH RM-820 OR RM-821 ROMS! Do NOT flash ROMs for any phone other than the Lumia 920 to your Lumia 920!
I can't offer you any support and am obviously not responsible if you brick your device (though this really shouldn't happen).
I thought only the Rogers 920 was Pentaband. The AT&T version actually has a different transceiver in it which puts a physical limit on the bands it uses.
Detailed Steps are Needed

I have an unlocked AT&T Lumia 920 and would like to enable AWS 1700/2100 for WIND Mobile in Canada. I have flashed in the following order using Nokia Care Suite 5.0.0 (2013.1.3):
Flash to Pre-Portico Rogers ROM: RM820_059Q6W4_1232.2109.1242.1002_039
OTA Update to Rogers ROM (1308)
Flash to European Developer ROM: RM821_059R4H6_1232.5957.1308.0002_027
Flash to Rogers ROM: RM820_059Q6W4_1232.5962.1314.0000_156
Flash to Global Black Swap ROM: RM821_059Q5C6_1232.5951.1249.1004_044 (No H/H+ as claimed by others, LTE disappeared from network options)
Flash to Rogers ROM: RM820_059Q6W4_1232.5962.1314.0000_156
No luck bringing up WIND on AWS 1700/2100, whereas my Rogers Lumia 920 is bringing it up on 3G/4G. Everything I have seen is pretty general instructions which leaves a lot of details out so this is the best I can do. Anyone else manage to do this that can provide more detailed instructions?

Where did you read this? I've never seen this and I've only read about some people managing to get AWS enabled. They're both the same model number.
In one of the many threads discussing which phone is better, the Rogers or the AT&T version. Check out this page, I was even corrected in the fact i thought they where the same till several said otherwise.

I think you might have posted an incorrect link. No one says anything like that in this thread.
And if that were the case how come multiple people have reported success enabling AWS on the ATT L920? Plus that doesn't really make sense for it to not have the hardware to do AWS 3G because it has the signal amplifier to do AWS LTE which runs on the same bands.

There's only 1 user who has explicitly stated that they (possibly) weren't just connecting to refarmed 1900mhz towers unfortunately. Still, as someone who's been browsing these forums for months hoping for some kind of breakthrough, I hadn't seen that post and it gives me hope.
Colinbo, why don't you shoot a private message to dullerm and ask for more details? It certainly looks to me like you followed the steps correctly from what you posted.

To follow up my previous post: after flashing some more, I managed to enable the AWS band on my AT&T Lumia 920. Unless T-Mobile lit up a 1900 tower just in the few minutes that the phone was rebooting after flashing GLOBAL BLACK SWAP, I am certain that I can now use 3G on AWS with it. For those who are interested, here is what I did to my AT&T Lumia 920:
start off with a Portico AT&T ROM (OTA-updated a few weeks ago on the still locked phone)
remove SIM unlock with AT&T provided unlock code
flash pre-Portico Rogers ROM
OTA-update to Portico Rogers ROM
flash Portico EURO1 DEV ROM (RM-821!)
flash Portico Rogers ROM
flash Portico LTA1 MX ROM
flash Portico GLOBAL BLACK SWAP ROM (RM-821!) ---> saw H, H+ indicator after this!!!
flash Portico Rogers ROM ---> 4G indicator
While flashing the LTA1 MX ROM (the Latin America ROMs are nicely debranded RM-820 ROMs but don't support LTE, at least in their cellular settings for highest connection speed), I decided for whatever reason to just give another RM-821 ROM a try and went for the GLOBAL BLACK SWAP. Maybe flashing EURO1 DEV again would have also done the trick as well and just flashing back and forth somehow enabled AWS. I don't know exactly what caused it but I am happy AWS works on the AT&T Lumia 920. This phone now certainly is the Überphone

for the latin america roms, debranded and no LTE, did you get "4G" from att service, not LTE? I have a AT&T Lumia 920 on Straight Talk, and they dont get LTE so I wont miss it. but if you can confirm. I will flash to my hearts content this weekend.

In conclusion I have to believe the ATT L920 is fully capable of supporting AWS 3G.
So it seems that if simply flashing the Euro Dev ROM does not enable AWS for you, try flashing following the directions quoted above in this post including flashing the Latin America ROM

That's great. If we can get a fully reproducible method of enabling AWS on the ATT L920 I'm sure a LOT of people will be happy.
I unfortunately can not do any testing on my own L920 because I have AT&T AND I live in a refarmed T-Mobile area so I wouldn't be able to tell if I'm on AWS or 1900MHz.
H+, H and 4G indicators are all capable of showing up if you're connected to a 1900mhz tower on T-Mobile though which is why I'm still a bit skeptical. I believe dullerm since the chances of a 1900mhz tower going up while he was doing the tests is pretty slim. Colinbo is using his phone on Wind in canada which does not have 3G on 1900mhz, so if he can get it working it'll be definitive proof for me that this method does work.
And you're right, it seems he missed this step to flash the Portico LTA1 MX ROM.

You are correct - I was unable to locate the product code for the LTA1 MX ROM. I now have the product code thanks to dullerm's PM: 059S0M8
I'm pulling down the LTA MX1 bits now through NCS firmware download. It's slow so I'll re-attempt the flash tomorrow and report back. My plan is as follows:
Flash to Pre-Portico Rogers ROM: RM820_059Q6W4_1232.2109.1242.1002_039
OTA Update to Rogers ROM (1308)
Flash to European Developer ROM: RM821_059R4H6_1232.5957.1308.0002_027
Flash to Rogers ROM: RM820_059Q6W4_1232.5962.1314.0000_156
Flash to Latin America Mexico ROM: M820_059S0M8_1232.5957.1308.0001_036
Flash to Global Black Swap ROM: RM821_059Q5C6_1232.5951.1249.1004_044
Flash to Rogers ROM: RM820_059Q6W4_1232.5962.1314.0000_156
As a pre-caution based on a post I saw somewhere I will also use the "Reset your phone" after every application of a ROM to ensure there are no old config values kicking around.
The comparison device I have is an unlocked Rogers Lumia 920 which is connecting to WIND showing 3G/4G indicators -- not sure if there is any way to tell which frequency it is using.

There is even a really definitive proof for it - you can check which tower you are on in the service menu:
Go to the phone app
Enter ##3282 and call; this will take you to the service menu
Choose "3G Reselection Status"
Look at the value for the 2nd line "Serving UARFCN", which gives the active downlink channel
If the UARFCN is 1xxx or 2xxx, you are on AWS (1700/2100). If it is below 1000 or 9xxx, you are on PCS (1900). This is not exact but good enough to tell AWS and PCS UMTS bands apart. And T-Mobile only uses those two bands for UMTS so the 1xxx-2xxx rule is easy to remember for on the road
For the exact channel numbers, please check this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands#UMTS-FDD
@petard You might still be able to tell the difference. T-Mobile is only deploying HSPA+ 21 on PCS (as far as I know) while on AWS they deployed HSPA+ 42. Probably not everywhere, though, and depending on the load of the tower, it might not make a difference after all. Just some detail to add.

ATT Lumia 920 on Tmobile
Hi all,
I would like to know if anyone had success using an ATT lumia 920 on Tmobile. I see some have had success. I would appreciate if someone could share the exact steps that would make it work.
I am planning to buy an unlocked ATT 920 (from amazon) and then try making it work on Tmobile. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Rom locations.
I have NaviFirm Plus 1.7 and its not accesing any files anymore.
I was wondering if anyone can share the files needed to make the ATT Lumia 920 completely work with TMobile USA. I have a you sent it account if that helps. Thanks.
