Hi folks,
I am trying to flash the new Jelly Bean firmware onto my SGS2 but it crashes at the message "Firmware update".
I did not perform a factory reset on my phone.
I follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226886
My S2 fortunately still works fine. Anyone knows what is going wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Which variant of the S2 do u have?
Check under ur battery and tell.

Just like I thought! The thread u linked is meant for the T989 S2, not the I9100 S2. That is why it fails.
Simply download the correct firmware for ur device from sammobile.com and flash that via Odin.

Hi, I recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 from Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.4) to Jelly Bean (4.1.2). I have been using the new OS version for a while now and don't like some of the changes that Samsung have implemented. So I was wondering if there is a way of downgrading the OS back to ICS 4.0.4 (the latest official release). Is there a way to select a custom version in Kies and simply update that way? Or am I stuck with Jelly Bean and will just have to adjust to the changes

Since you are obviously new to rooting and flashing, may I suggest you read:
Introduction to Android and Galaxy S2
Recovery and Download modes
How to flash stock firmwares using Odin
Also read about 'eMMC Brickbug' issue on 4.0.4.
And don't forget to take an EFS backup too!!

Yes, you will. Because you will return to stock and hence become unrooted.

damn, i guess the easiest way to root again without any harm is to flash an insecure kernel for my baseband from xda with odin right?(same as i did when i first rooted my phone)

If u only want root and not CWM, try zergRush exploit method.
If u want CWM, post ur 'About Phone' details here and let me know.

Will give u a tip.
Search for 'Philz kernel'.
In the thread you find, look for the XWLSD zip version.
Save it to ur external SD card.
Flash that in stock recovery..
And ur rooted!

Ohh.. ok..
Flashing via Odin can fail due to a number of reasons, which is why I always suggest Mobile Odin for flashing and stock recovery for rooting.

Most problems are caused by kies. Make sure all kies taks are closed by task manager
Hey guys a friend of mine wanted to upgrade his phone via kies but he forgot his phone was rooted is there anyway he can fix it
On his phone he can access download mods
Some members have reported having issues upgrading via Kies while rooted.
So u have 2 options:
1. Re-flash current ROM via Odin to unroot, then update via Kies.
2. Directly flash the update via Odin (you save one step).
