Anyway For A Complete Backup before Unlocking Bootloader? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Title says it all. It takes a while for me to set everything up especially getting my music back because my laptop is a mess with stuff everywhere. So I want like a full nandroid backup that could be restored after unlocking Bootloader and rooting. I've searched around but can't find exactly what I'm looking for (for this device anyway)

Try Carbon from the play store by Koush (ROM Manager) There's a review on XDA-TV: http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...kup-your-device-with-carbon-xda-developer-tv/ . You'll have to download a PC app and connect to your laptop in order to enable the app on your phone, but it's fairly straight forward from there.

jbless carbon wont do a nandroid... also its called helium now. Also im pritty sure you have to unlock bootloader first. then before u flash anything you can do a nandroid using adb. We have most of the tools to return to 100% stock except for the ruu which makes it easier.

To flash or not to flash?

So for a while now ive been debating if i should flash my phone with a new rom (or kernel) or if i should just keep it safe and just keep it rooted with nothing else.
Now the biggest thing thats keeping from flashing it is that i really dont know how hard it would be to get it back to stock. Ive been doing my hmwk and been reading through the forums but still im a little lost.
So any help / advice would be welcomed.

well i dont own a vibrant, but from what ive read ODIN is used to get back to stock or if u soft brick ur phone. go to the rom bible for vibrants and you can find easy instruction on how to use ODIN. and there are numerous videos on youtube showing how to use ODIN.
Good luck man

If you have read how to return to stock from a soft brick and are still lost, then I'd say definitely no!
Download Fusion if you do not want TouchWiz, or Bionix if you do. Stick with the stock kernel (for now).
Make sure you have Rom Manager and clockwork recovery working.
install titanium backup and backup all apps + data (I would not bother with system data).
Do a nandroid backup.
Flash your Fusion/Bionix.
If you ever want to go back, just restore your nandroid backup.
( All of these steps are in my signature in much greater detail if needed )
+1 to what s15274n posted.
The first time is always the most nerve-wracking. You've got a great phone, everything works great, & it wasn't cheap. The last thing you want to do is "do something" that might mess it up right? I was in that boat for a while and when I did flash a ROM, I was like..."I was worried why?"
It's pretty simple, I just made sure to sync my contacts/calendar, used AppBrain to sync my apps (you can use Titanium Backup to to this too but I didn't need/want to save any data) and then I was good to go.
I downloaded TGA's One Click Root/Unroot. Then after I made sure SuperUser was installed in the App Drawer I downloaded ROM Manager (Free from the Market), installed it, & ran it.
After that I clicked on ClockWork Recovery inside the app so it would download/install (it's a separate download but dependent upon ROM Manager). After that, I rebooted into recovery from within the ROM Manager. Followed the directions on the menu to perform a nandroid backup then I was good to go.
The directions for installing ROMs are in the beginning of all the ROMs threads plus there's a lot of good information in the Tip & Tricks sticky thread in General and the Team Whiskey site (Home of the Bionix ROMs) has a good writeup.
I tend to stick with the non-Froyo ROMs just because I use the GPS daily and we don't have the GPS drivers for Froyo yet. Eugene's Hybrid & Bionix Fusion are great ROMs to start with. Just pick one with the attributes you like and you won't go wrong.
Hope this helps a bit & have fun flashing,
~SB
Thank you all for your advice and help. I already downloaded Rom Manager and titanium back up all i have to do now is pick a rom and go for it...and i think i will actually pick one and do it later today.

Flash away my friend. I must warn you that flashing is addictive!!
Always do a Nandroid backup before Flashing. If you screw up, you can always ODIN back to Stock. ODIN is your friend!!
When flashing, I prefer to flash through Clockwork Mod. You can flash through ODIN too but Clockwork is easier.
I would also suggest making sure you can get into Download mode without adb or terminal commands as well.
If you can't then you'll want to check the bible on the method to fix the hardware lock.
Also, if you haven't yet upgraded your phone to JI6, you should SIM unlock your phone (I believe you lose this option when you go to JI6) and backup the folder that has your unlock (should also be in the bible). You may never need it, but it's definitely a nice option to have, especially on a phone that can get the AT&T 3g signal (well, one radio band of it anyways).
Hey guys so I flashed my phone earlier today using the bionix stock rom. Everything went great but then I tried going back to stock using nandroid and my phone ended being stuck at the Vibrant logo screen. After realizing that it was stuck I just went back to the bionix rom. Anyone know why nandroid wasn't able to restore me back to my back up?
Also if I wanted to install another rom would I just download it and install it or would I would have to go back to stock then flash it??
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Sounds like you had the jac or kk kernel, and not the stock.
Nandroid doesn't restore the kernel, so you have to flash the stock kernel before.
Does the stock bionix come with a different kernel? Because I thought my kernel didn't change. I checked before and after flashing and my kernel was the same?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Nope...stock Bionix is the regular JI6 kernel.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
even if you have the stock kernel of a custom Rom. when you do a nandroid restore your phone will be soft bricked. they say that after you restore, you have to flash the stock kernel too in the recovery mode.

Aright I guess I need to download the j16 kernel

Nandroid backup for future use?

Hey guys, I've got a hopefully simple question. I'm gonna be going to Vegas soon, and I'm running on an ICS rom, but I want to be able to use the good camera and my 4G for while I'm there. However, I don't want to have to set everything back up once I come back one by one since I'll only be gone for 4 days.
So can I do a Nandroid backup, save the file, re-lock my phone and put it back to root, then once I come back unlock my phone and then restore said backup so everything will be the way it was? Sorry if this is a mouthful, but that would be my ideal way of doing things. If not, are there some good alternatives?
Thanks guys!
As far as I can tell, that should work. Just make sure you remove your custom recovery before you relock.

brain what do you mean by "custom recovery before you relock" how do you do that?

If you have cwm installed and you try to relock it, your phone won't boot (iirc). If you sbf back to stock, it will reinstall the Android stock recovery and relock your phone, and you'll be all set. Otherwise, you'll have to find the Android recovery somewhere to download, then use Fastboot to install it, then relock (and to be honest, I can't remember how to do that. I think I remember people having problems flashing the relock file.) Easiest is to sbf after making your backup, then when you get home, unlock again, flash cwm, and restore your nandroid.
Hope that made sense.
And if you sbf and your phone bootloops, boot into the stock recovery and factory reset.

Full backup stock ICS OTA s-on unrooted?

I'm pretty sure it's not possible but is there any way I can back up all of my data, settings, apps, homescreens, etc while still unrooted and s-on? I've just put hundreds of hours getting everything just right and I don't want to lose it all. I know how to backup the basics but what's the most I can do? My phone is acting up and I thing I need to do a factory reset and/or get a new phone. Thanks for your time.

Here's another vote for My Backup Pro: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro
Since you're not rooted, I'm not sure how much of your data it can backup / restore, but I think it can backup app data without root... I could be wrong. Nevertheless, it's a great backup app. Worth the price, but there are free versions as well.
However, I don't believe root is required in order to do a "nand" backup. What you need to do is:
Unlock your bootloader, per HTC.
Flash a custom recovery, like AR Recovery 3.15
You can follow steps 1 and 2 of Scotty's instructions here: http://androidforums.com/rezound-al...ys-noob-friendly-root-guide-start-finish.html
The caveat is that unlocking wipes your device, so... I don't know how you would get a nand backup of your device as it is right now. However, moving forward, you would be able to create nand backups, and you would not have to be rooted.
At the same time, once you unlock your bootloader and flash AR Recovery, it's incredibly simple to flash superSU and achieve root. So why not, if you're going through the trouble of unlocking so you can create a nand backup? Just sayin'...
Understand, too, that the two steps above are reversible. You can flash the stock recovery back, and you can re-lock your bootloader. If you're concerned about your warranty...
If you don't wish to go through any of these steps, then I believe My Backup Pro is going to be your best option. Some people also use Titanium Backup, but I don't find that app to be nearly as user friendly.
Thanks for the input...I've got some decisions to make.

You can do an ADB backup and get all apps and data without ANY mods. My lady has the rezound and is very disappointed with the ics ota update so I pulled all the data before I unlock. Its a new feature with the ics system. Just be sure to set a backup password in the developers section of the settings.

[Q] Help attempting to root

Hey guys, I've only rooted a droid razr before and am trying to root my incredible 4g right now but whenever it get to the step below I get the following response: 'adb' is not a valid internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated as I am not very experienced at this kind of stuff but love the benefits of being rooted. Also, i did try and search the thread but couldn't find a solution. Thanks in advance. This is the step I'm stuck on:
Close cmd and start a new one then type
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/mmcblk0p4

Make sure adb is in your path, or make sure you are in the adb directory when you execute the command.

How would I do that?
this webpage will help you get setup:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/Howto:_Install_the_Android_SDK#Windows
it's the instructions I used to install the android SDK and get adb and fastboot working
down towards the bottom there are instructions for installing on Windows (im assuming that's what you have anyway, other directions are on there as well)
Much thanks to both of you! I followed the wikipedia page and am now successfully rooted.

Hello, I finally unlocked and rooted last night, using the automated script. That part went relatively smoothly. I am greatly appreciative of all the efforts to make this available, because i know it wasn't easy. I feel like I'm standing on the shoulders of giants whenever I even attempt something like this, and I'm very grateful. A little background: Over the years I've managed to root every device in my house: a Droid Eris, a Droid Incredible, a Droid 2, a Droid Incredible 2, and a Le Pan tablet. So far, so good, but many of those were pretty simple, one-click, etc. I knew there were complications with the Incredible 4G and I bided my time until it seemed foolproof enough that even I could do it. However, I'm rather worried that I really screwed something up this time:
1) After unlocking and flashing Viper 2.0, I noticed right away that some of the functionalities were missing. Basically everything crashed: the browser, the dialer, messaging app, etc. I was somewhat prepared for this in reading the threads and tried going back into the automated script and choosing option 3 to revert the CID. However, it keeps starting me off at step #1, even though I've chosen #3. Is that correct? How would I go through the whole process again and still get to step #3? Maybe it's because...
2) During the initial installation, being unfamiliar with the TWRP recovery, I think I screwed up by doing a System Wipe (along with the more familiar wipes I would normally do). Looking back at it, is that why basically nothing works? Ex: When I open up the messaging app, it says the app is not even installed. Did I accidentally delete crucial elements? Can I get them back?
3) To really compound things, I forgot to make a backup before I did all this. I realize this was completely stupid, especially now I fear that I have nothing to go back to in terms of a stock image (oops!!)
So, now I'm really stuck. I can follow basic directions, but definitely don't have the knowledge or skill to get creative at this point. Can anyone help?
Thanks

thanks for the response, re-downloaded and am re-flashing now. If that doesn't work, I'm still not clear on how to revert CID using the automated tool (option 3). Do I start from scratch and go through the whole process again? (The first time I tried it I selected option 3, but it started me back at #1, and I doubt I would want to go that route again?
Also, how would I reacquire a stock image, given that I shouldn't have done a system wipe without backing up in recovery first? Is that possible?

Then I looked a little further and found the full RUU (575 MB), so not sure which route I should go?
I did notice other people getting error messages and were told they needed to re-lock in order to flash the RUU. Is that correct? Keep in mind, I'm just trying to get a working phone again until I can regroup and figure out how to revert CID from the automated script. I am unlocked and rooted.

in order to flash the RUU in bootloader you need to first lock it, this goes even for my s-off phone, but once you are unlocked you are good to go, so even if you deleted your Unlock_code.bin you can always re-run the process to get it back.
the codes to lock and unlock are
lock
fastboot oem lock
unlock
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

Thanks, you guys have been great. I'll try everything you've suggested. Sorry to continue taking up so much of your time. I knew when I woke up today it would be a pretty unproductive Sunday, but I have to get my phone working again, particularly since I need it for work. After that, I really do want to have a successful install of Viper 2.0 because it looks pretty sweet. At least this time I'll be smart enough to make a backup before I plunge ahead!! But one more question for the time being:
Can I flash the RUU from the TWRP recovery, or does re-locking eliminate my ability to go that route?
Also, do I need to rename the RUU before flashing, regardless of whether I use the bootloader or TWRP recovery (if possible)?

How to tell if your phone is unlocked

Hello.
I used the Casual method a while back to root my phone. This caused all sorts of problems, and once i was finally able to fix it from boot loop with a rom installed I have not touched it.
I posted a thread about wanting the stock camera, and was told to find a TW based rom. I plan on installing Jellybeans today.
It says to make sure your phone is unlocked and rooted, how do i verify if I am unlocked?
Thanks.

That does nothing but check for root, it would be no help if he knows he has root.
Really the best thing I can think of is to try flashing a ROM, not very helpful but I can't think of any other surefire way....
