I want to root my Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 and keep downloading mode as:
"ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I9300
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
SYSTEM STATUS: OFFICIAL"
There's a workaround for Samsung Galaxy Note II, but is there one available for SGS3 too?
try flashing a pre-rooted stock rom via Odin

Wow! Is there such a thing?
Can you lead me to a link please?
no, use search
After rooting, use TriangleAway app to reset flash counter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
Flashing a stock rom after that will keep the status as official with counter being 0
Also, make sure that this app best works on stock kernels (yes, the ones with stock firmwares). Some kernels have problems with the app.

Hi,
Does GT-P7500 have a flash counter?
If it does, is there a way to reset it?
I really would like to root my tab
Yes it does, but mine is still 0 and i'm rooted. It seems it counts only if you install unofficial rom with odin.
What would be best way to do it, that the counter stays zero?

I updated to KI1 using Odin and then applied the root.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089) using recovery menu.
Sorry for the noob question, but what is the flash counter for?

It counts how many times you have flashed unofficial software on your device. If the count is higher then 0 then Samsung will probably refuse to repair it under warranty.
Rooted
I needed to run the odin at administrator rights...
Now need to learn how to install custom roms
Thx

Just make sure you don't flash custom roms with odin.

You can Install custom ROMs using CWM. I don't know how to reset the counter.

How to find that counter?
*uses necromancer skill to revive dead thread*
hey guys,
since i was disappointed twice by the asus transformer prime, i'm thinking about getting a galaxy tab.
i really wanna use custom roms and kernels.. so, can someone please clarify the following things:
1. is there any way to reset the custom counter like you can on the sgs2?
2. do CWM flashes affect the custom counter or not?
thanks in advance!
is there really no one out there with an answer?
It has a counter. But you'll be good if you restrict to cwm.

Does flashing a custom recovery make the counter counts

How is reset counter?
counter ?? hmmm
a good piece of info....need it badly how to find the counter
On my GT-P7510 there is a counter that can be seen in the text in downloading mode. Flashing CWM and installing ROMs through CWM does not seem to affect it, mine is still at 0.
Ok, if I flash cwm the counter will stay zero...If I however flash back to stock recovery then what? I have read that the counter only increases if a custom kernel, not rom, is flashed. So does flashing stock rom (including STOCK kernel), from samfirmware.com affect the counter? Hope someone with more knowledge than me sees this. Thanks!

i just searched for reseting counter, too.
But its right, it seems not to count. I had installed various Custom Roms via Odin and the Counter still says Original Samsung and also is still zero.
you can find the counter when entering Downloading mode (Power+VolumeDown and than choose Download)

Hello,
2 months ago I rooted my S3,
with the CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.2 & odin & stuff, It worked,
Today I wanted to unroot it, & I thought you could just Reset your phone and everyting would go back to factory settings, because I wanted some
original updates...
I found out if i did that it would still use SuperSU & be a Custom Firmware. So I removed the SuperSU app, Deleted CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.2 or it was CWM-SuperSU-v0.89 from my SD.
I wanted to reset it again with the hard mode setting or something: Volume up + home + lock key
I mounted everything /sd card /system /cache etc. Why? I dont know..
Now my phone gets stuck at the screen when you turn on your phone: Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300
Did I just brick my phone?
Greetings.
No you didnt. But your S3 has nothing to boot. So you should flash an original fw from sammmobile with odin.

You could try to make a full recovery with Samsung Kies.

Are you sure this works?
We are not Samsung customer service and we do not guarantee it work. In this same general section there are two sticky threads that will guide you can download the stock rom and flash it using Odin, titled " [Stock Official Firmwares] I9300XXBLG8 (4.0.4) - United Kingdom" and "[Guide+ROMS]Odin Flash+Root Guide & Stock Firmwares".
You will lose all your data in the phone when you flash Odin. Also this forum section is for the international unlocked version, make sure you aren't using an American carrier locked version.
Also, question belongs in the Q&A section.

Search for "Triangle Away". This will reset your flash counter to 0 and should remove your warning. Also, the SuperSU app by the same author has the ability to fully restore to stock as well.
please read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III/GT-I9300
and this link http://m.ibtimes.co.uk/galaxys3-i9300-unroot-official-firmware-reclaim-warranty-466933
maybe you can change the s3-i9300 to your own device.
that links work for me on s3. gain real unroot
