4g and the international base - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I was wondering if 4g lte was functioning correctly on the international base or if the verizon base makes the "LTE" work better?...my reason for asking is LTE is a verizon thing and is suppose to be better than standard 4g... some roms seem to connect better than others but where I live it is strictly 4g and very seldom do I go to 3g...is there a difference in rom bases that would effect the LTE?...or anything else that may make a better 4g connection or difference?

I think it depends more on which radio baseband u r using.....

JRBXX7 is correct, it really depends on what radio you are on. In AOSP there is a difference in the way service show, there are fewer bars as compared to TW, but the service is still the same.
If you have problems try updating to the newest radio and if you have already updated roll back to the radio you were on. Its really best to test each radio and figure out which is best for you, your phone, and your area. Each phone is a little different and that can change a lot of things that will be fine on other peoples.

Thanks...I was wondering since LTE was such a secret if just the verizon base has all the stuff needed to work on LTE properly

Noob question, 4g?

Ok, totally nervous and anxious noob here. I had a question about the capabilities of the modem in this phone. My coworker has a captivate, and he told me all about the stuff you do here, and how he upgraded his modem to 4g. Is the vzw variant capable of the same? I've been reading the threads for a few weeks now, trying to figure out what to get, and now I'm just confused with the whole process, but that's a topic for another day.
Thanks.

Not. . . . . . . . . . . .
No.
The captivate can do HSPA which is all of the sudden be marketed as 4G (as HSPA+) but only up to the device limit of 7M.
That is one of ATT/TMO's ways of saying 4G.
VZN is using LTE which is different from their current CDMA#K which means phones can not take advantage of it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Yeah, no. The "4G" he is talking about is not really 4G. It's a fake 4G.
http://www.technobuffalo.com/comparisons/htc-inspire-4g-vs-htc-thunderbolt-4g-speed-test/
but wait......i thought if you put 4g icons in your theme....then it unlocked that super secret lte radio that came with the fascinate!?!?!
Thanks for the info.

So now you are discrediting VZW because they use a different technology than AT&T and bought a phone that is working as advertised?

Its not really 4G, the phone works fine and as intended. If you want 4g, then go get a 4g phone from verizon(who has the best 4g network at the moment, forget ATT's crap)

Hahahah, this. +1
HSPA and LTE are different tech, just like CDMA#k and HSPA. HSPA has the same speed capability as LTE but the drasticly different delivery mechanism makes it a loser for these kind of tests.
LTE is the true future tech even though it doesn't meet 4G guidelines. Future HSPA evolutions are just going to be like new and improved satellite TDMA systems.... larger pipe for more terminals... but dont ldt ths customer know how many terminals there are.

If I had my choice, I would've gone with AT&T for numerous reasons, but given my circumstance, VZW was my only option. Big Red has a track record of making things difficult for the end user (like upgrading phones). I love this phone, and the service is good, but it's a bit discouraging that I'll have to wait 2 years to get a faster phone when this one has capable hardware being held back by them.
Sorry for the rant. Basically, I'm anxiously awaiting the day when I can cut the bloat and let this thing fly. Keep up the awesome work, and I'll keep reading until I get all the pieces together.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
The captivate doesn't do 4g..the guy just has a theme that changed his icon to show 4g when he still has 3g. And neither phone has the hardware to run 4g.
At&t has **** for service...hence the REAL reason iPhone is with vzw now. I will never pay for at&t again.

[Q] Can this phone work with WCDMA, how to do this?

I love rezound very much, but you won't get a phone that you can not call and using internet. I'm with Vodafone AU, and the phone works for Verizon with LTE 4G.
Are there anyway to make it work with WCDMA? Any way to unlock or hack it?
Big thanks! Please help me become one of Rezounders in the future!
I want to help you ,but I dont know how to do ...

I'm not an expert or a dev, but I know for sure that we can't do much at all in the way of hacking until s-off is achieved. Furthermore, I could be wrong but I don't think the rezound supports wcdma.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
The Rezound only operates on the CDMA2000 and LTE standards on top of operating only at specific bands.
Despite the similar name, WCDMA is not the same as "CDMA" - it is a GSM variant and is therefore not compatible with the Rezound, as the Rezound does not support nor contain a radio for that standard.
so then what is the diff between;
lte/voice
lte global
lte/cdma(auto)
I'm in a spot where Verizon says isn't the best coverage; although I'm constantly between 2-3 lte bars. is one superior than others

I had 3g goin while talking on the phone.....if that helps....
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
No, this phone can not be used as a world phone. You will be unable to use it on either CDMA or LTE. Not to mention, you have to have a Verizon LTE SIM to program the phone.
Next time, search! The answers to all these simple questions are in the forum.

Is there any LOS???

I had the S2 and it always seemed to have signal issues and updated its radio every week it seemed. How's the signal with the S3 so far?
No issues. Radio solid fast 3g insanely fast GPS locks. Buy it
No
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
This is one of those threads that is meaningless information or worse because the mods combined the forums and the posters failed to flag their carrier. So-called "signal" issues are carrier-specific.
On my sprint s3 I don't have the "los" bug but signal on this phone sucks. Anyone who tells u different is lying. This may be one of the weakest radios on any phone. My photon would have, 4 bars on sprints network where this one will be roaming
Hopefully a radio update will fix these issues

This fits the pattern of other anecdotal reports by some users of Sprint LTE-capable phones, not just the GS3, in some areas.
Since the whole Sprint network is being rebuilt right now on a localized basis, my bet is that these symptoms have something to do with how the new LTE phones interact with the legacy network, or at least with certain regional segments of the network that are under construction right now. Whatever is going on, Sprint is not being forthcoming about the issue.
However, this is a Sprint-specific problem, having nothing to do with the original post, which apparently does not involve Sprint.

Actually I do know how to do a prl and profile update. That doesn't fix a bad radio. The radio on this phone sucks plain and simple. My mobile network in battery settings is all green with blank spots all through it where it looks as if I had no signal but I have a airwave in my house. 3rd s3 and all 3 had this problem so far

I'm just going to assume u have never owned a photon because that's what I came from. This phones radio compared to the photon sucks horribly. I roam at the sprint store. Reps there said they are hoping it's due to the network upgrades

No it's due to Motorola holding several patents that allow the cdma radio to be better in their phone.....no other cdma phone will get as good of coverage....HTC LG doesn't matter Motorola is the best coverage of any phone cdma wise but their phone sucks other than that....
Most people forget Motorola was a radio company before they made phones

Rezound on other US carrier, tmbile net ten or other

Ok need to switch my rezound to another provider. How is.T-Mobile and do I need the leak of the gsm.update for.global?
What other carriers would be good and have maybe unlimited data? Would T-Mobile speeds be edge or 3g...
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Yes you will need the global firmware, and so far it seems to be impossible to get anything other than edge on Tmo. They are refarming their spectrum, so you might have some luck of you're in one of those areas, but I make no promises.

what other carriers do you think are better to go with that have good data speeds?
Not a clue, to be honest. I know they've gotten spotty hspa+ on at&t with some radio recalibration.. I'm not too savvy on playing with radios though, so i never looked too deep into it. Most of the people using prepaid carriers seem like they don't mind edge network.
Just search on Google for like "xda htc rezound on tmobile" or any other carrier you want to see and it'll bring you a decent list of threads. I would recommend the xda search, but I've been doing all my research from mobile browser and Tapatalk, so search results have been hit or miss.
Looks like page plus gets 3g at least. There's a pretty active thread here in the general forums about it. Some people have been using straight talk, also.

How did you edit the radio band? Is it easy to do? I am also on the leaked global Rom ice cream sandwich. I read that if you.use titanium back and make apn switcher a system app or just move it maybe to system folder then reboot and you should be able I think to use an apn switcher for mms

I used dfs cdma workshop. U just need to follow the guide about unlocking north American bands. It is very easy to do. Mms can be a bit goofy at times so I just have my wife use go sms and set the mms apn in there. The phone works pretty good.

went with simple mobile $40 plan. I have edge speeds. Need to wait for Tmobile to refarm that 2g i think for better speeds... Anyone with any ideas as to how to have better speeds? Just a waiting game i think...

Mobile Network type is always on Edge?

It's been more than a month and it's stuck on Edge. Even when I go to the areas where I would have a strong signal of 4G, it doesn't change into 4G! This is really bugging me. My phone is S-ON, bootloader unlocked, and running Viper Amaze 1.7.0.1. Oh yeah, and T-Mobile is my carrier!

You need to check your apns and put in the correct t-mobile apn so it will give you the proper hspa+ rather than edge.

I usually set my phone to GSM Only when I go out, because it saves a lot of battery and still lets me stay connected to the internet.

There is no way to get lte on this phone it doesn't have lte. If it did people would have abysmal battery life because lte consumes too much battery.

Me too. Your friend's Verizon LTE was slow likely due to tower congestion. That's when too many people are on the tower and the bandwidth becomes tiny and people get slow data. I hope it doesn't happen to future T-mobile LTE,
My galaxy S6 is stuck on Edge as network type and it refuses to get out of GSM Only even if I try to set preferred network type. I can see the other network types displayed but when I press them it switches back immediately to GSM Only
