[Q] Images and videos not readable from SD - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First time here and I'm in sort of despair!
I recently purchased a 32GB (class 10) memory card for my Samsung Galaxy S2. All went fine, the card was recognized, I could write and read from it, both, on the computer and the phone so I set it as the default storage for my camera.
The problems start here.
Last week, after shooting some videos, I wanted to check them at home but realized that the videos and some of the photos are not shown, the videos cannot be played by the phone or dropbox player or VLC on computer, jpg's are corrupted too.
I tried formatting the card, but the problem still persists. I'm pretty stumped right now and don't have any ideas on how to fix this.
Any help appreciated, thanks!
I asked this on android.stackexchange.com but only received one answer so I'd like to make sure

[Q] Rooted GS2 not playing its own videos???

After spending all day with about 10 iphone owners(and bragging about the S2's greatness), I nearly captured a hilarious moment last night, in 1080p glory...untill I tried to find the video in my gallery and play it.
I clicked the video and got an error of "unsupported file type". It recorded as a 3GPP file, but not a clue as to why a brand new phone wont play videos it recored seconds earlier. I tried recording a few more and switching the decoder options.. "Sorry this video cannot be played.".
Anyone seen this and wanted to save me from buying an iphone out of frustration?
Not sure. Mine is rooted as well and records in 3gpp. Recorded about 5min straight yesterday and the whole thing plays back great on my phone, computer, and youtube. Try putting the video on your computer. If it doesn't play there as well it may have gotten corrupted during saving it. Weird things can happen.
A good test would be to take another video and see if it plays. For your sake I hope it does.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
swapped out my sd card and now its working...guess the file structure is messed up on my old SD.

Are you saving it to your external memory card? Perhaps the card is corrupted or failing? If you are saving it to external memory, try a different card or (at least temporarily) save the video to the internal memory card and see how that goes.

video lags

Hi,
i am facing the problem of video lagging.
earlier i had all my videos in phone internal memory, but last month i had transfered the videos to my 32 gb micro sd card..
i didnt check the videos then, but a few days back when i tried, many videos started to lag, they stopped responding.
i am not sure what is the problem.
i have two types of videos in my phone.. the ones tranfered from Kies & only one is copied directly as its a 2.36 gb mkv file & takes huge amount of time to convert it using Kies.. (this sucks ! please give me an alternate way to do this)

SOLVED! [Q] Music randomly not showing in any player

I have just yesterday purchased the Droid Razr 16GB on Verizon. I previously had an old samsung caliber with a 16GB micro SD. I wanted to use it for my music in my Razr so I installed the card and it claimed the SD was damaged. I then formatted the card with the phone and the error seemed to be resolved. I took out the card and copied music from my PC. When attempting to view the music in the stock player only a dozen artists showed out of about thirty. I have performed several routine actions to try to fix this including:
-Full FAT32 format in PC (not quick)
-Clearing Google Play Music App's data
-Clearing Media Storage data
-Powering off phone, removing/ reinstalling SD card, restarting phone
-Installing winamp, verizon's My Music app. (this always resulted in each app displaying the same dozen tracks the other apps)
-Unmount/ remount SD
-Change file types (though this seems to be unbiased. Mp3's or m4a's have both failed to play independently)
Some important info:
...The music in question was copied off of my stock, rooted wifi -only Xoom running 4.0.3 so it shouldn't be a problem. I also added music off of my external HDD which has not shown up.
...Each time the phone re-scanned the external SD for music only a dozen or so artists would show HOWEVER it was always different artists. (Ex. first scan: AWOL, Baroness, Led Zeppelin, etc. second scan: Cold War Kids, Kid Cudi, Passenger, etc.)
...Occasionally after unmounting the SD or rebooting the phone it would claim it was damaged again. A reboot would fix this.
...The Razr is a stock, non-rooted, fresh out of the box 2.3.6 Android phone.
I have run out of ideas short of cutting down the music and putting it on the internal. My only thought is that the SD card may be bad but it was working fine yesterday before I got the Razr. Any help would be appreciated.
New Symptom: It seems that the player is throwing the music into the LOST.DIR file on the SD card, so it reads them as corrupt and trashes them. Will investigate further.
SOLVED! Looks like there were two issues. The SD card had a bad sector which I fixed with the basic windows scanner. This fixed the songs moving to the LOST Directory. Also even though the tagging info was correct in windows, it wasn't correct on the razr. To fix this, I got the iTag app from the Play Store. It showed all unknown pieces of tagging info and allowed me to edit them. Now all music is on the SD card and there are no unknown artists!
You've tried Poweramp? With this you can manage your music by Folders. The Stock player uses the MP3 Tags. I have an huge DnB Collection, but not every Record has an Tag. So Stock Player doesn't order them right.

I use Mp3tag to tag al my music folders
included with folder icons! love it!
The songs are all tagged. I'm a meticulous librarian when it comes to my music.
Update: Woke up this morning and had to reboot the phone due to a common sound issue. I then checked the music player and all of the artists where there! So I connected the phone via usb to my computer and, wouldn't you know it? Damaged SD card again (again fixed by reboot). It seems to me that this may be a separate issue.
Possible solutions? Bad SD card? Maybe it just takes a long time to scan the card? I'm going to buy a new card today. I'll let you know the results. In the mean time, music is going on the internal SD. We'll see if that works

[Q] Question... Weird sound permanently in some of my songs.

Things you should know:
Rooted S4 running 4.4.2 (stock kernal)
So first off I torrent a lot so may be the songs, but affected songs from different source all have the same weird noise....
Second I bought a 130 GB SD card off eBay for $20
Third about a month ago before this I started noticing this problem, I corrupted my SD by unmount in it because I was having app installation issues. [Fixed that problem] and I plugged the SD card into my laptop and ran a Windows program through cmd that wiped the drive and fixed it. And I whent ahead and formatted it once I put it back in my S4.
May be a dead giveaway but occasionally Camera pics saved to my SD card, a grey bar starting from the bottom covers up the image and then after a while says corrupt. But only occasionally not on all pictures...
Finally it's rooted and I wanted to be able to edit my music on the SD card, so I ran NextApp SD Fix.
Background:
Once the drive wiped, I lost all my music. So I took to tormenting to get my music back... Though I did not have an SD card reader on my laptop and for some reason have trouble connecting my phone to it I had to transfer my songs on a thumb drive. First batch, I already had the SD card out so I transferred about 3GB worth of music on that directly. Next I transfered directly to the SD through my phone (USB to transfer from computers).
Question:
Songs from both batches where experiencing weird sounds *hard to explain* permanently in the song on my phone, but not original computer. Is this due to my SD card being faulty, an issue transferring, or the fact that I used SDFix?

Photos save to SD card but videos won't save to SD card

Hi, all. I'm having a weird problem. I searched and found that on Lineage OS, some are having issues with saving photos and videos to their SD card. It was fixed after some update.
I'm on the September 21, 2017 update of LineageOS but my issue is different. While images save to the SD card using the stock camera app, videos will not. I checked both internal and external SD cards using ES explorer in the DCIM folder and the videos do not exists. The camera app will show that the video is being recorded but after hitting stop, the video isn't there. I switched to save media to internal SC card and the videos save to internal. Switch back to external SD card and no go.
Again, the photos will save perfectly on external, hence, my situation is unique (and it's not a permission issue since if it was neither images or videos would be saved and I also checked the permission and camera app has the permissions granted); whereas others are having a problem with both photos AND videos not saving.
On the stock, this was not a problem.
Any insight would be helpful.
Thank you.
I'm having the same issue with my HTC One M8, Lineage OS version 14.1-20170928-NIGHTLY. Very frustrating.
Yes sir, old wifey is frustrated with me. I installed Lineage OS on my wife's phone because she kept complaining stock was sluggish. After taking many videos, come to realize none saved.
Hey, I've came across this camera app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.footej.camera
It's cool: you can save pics and videos to SD and works really well. Some functions need a paid package, however (2€).
