Okay so I have a very strange thing to report regarding Google Now:
My wife has the Galaxy S3 and I have the Note 2 on Verizon. My wife this week noticed that when opening Google Now the recent search history is displaying MY personal searches along with her own searches!
The phones are not connected in anyway at all and HER Google Now is displaying MY searches. I noticed it only occurs for searches that I am doing while out on the 4G LTE network, and is not picking up any of my local WIFI searches. I can be out 20 miles away from her and she will receive my mobile searches under the Google Now search history.
This is extremely odd and somewhat creepy at the same time. I have no connection to her phone via any accounts and everything is her own accounts.
What is this issue? Anyone familiar with it? Google is almost impossible to contact so I do not know what to do about it...
PS: I am rooted etc running Beans Build 14 and she is on complete stock no root S3 touchwiz.
Do you guys happen to have your browsers synced to chrome on your pc? My wife, and I share our search history through chrome. If you look in google now, it displays your search history from your browser as well. This could be it, though I am just taking a stab at it.

Something similar is happening to me. I've done tests and found that my searches show on my wife's search history when using Chrome but NOT Google Now, and also does *not* show up on her search history when using my desktop version of Chrome. As her phone is the primary account holder, I wonder if Google hasn't decided that all Chrome searches from phones on our plan aren't hers, and putting them in her history.
EDIT:
OK, after performing some more tests, it has to be the Verizon account. I've completely logged out of my Google account both in the Chrome for phone and the general phone google account. I mean, I literally removed my Google account from the phone, and searches were still showing up in her history.

I am not alone! Thanks for the reply!
You think it is Verizon doing this not Google? Either way it seems like a big breach in privacy that should be addressed. I have 5 phones attached to the family plan and I will be taking a look at another phone to see if it has it as well. I am the primary phone on the account so it may be be somehow related to that.
I agree it is definitely related to Chrome app browser. I forgot chrome is a separate entity from Google Now.
What do we do about it?

Well, I thought it was Google associating the Verizon account or something. But, turns out, it was definitely something local to the phone. This has been going on for a while for me, and I finally got tired of it, so I completely factory rest my phone. That finally cleared it up. However, I want to stress, I'm 100% sure I didn't have my wife's account logged into my phone. She's crazy about security and changes her password every couple months (last time was last week, and the issue has been going on longer than that, so it's literally impossible).
I will say, at some point in the past I did have her account on there when we needed to get access to her email for something. My current theory is that there was still a "ghost" of the account still on there somehow associated with Chrome. But really, I'm just grasping at straws. All I know is a factory reset fixed it.

The ghost file theory makes no sense / isn't plausible for my situation. I completely wipe and factory reset my phone at least once a month for ROM purposes. I have never have used her phone for any personal accounts or anything like that. She does not even have the Chrome app on her phone.
Something else is up with this. . .
Is it just me or does this seem like a somewhat serious issue?

So I am in the UK on GiffGaff which uses the O2 network. My wife and I both have Nexus 4s. When she searches on her phone it comes up in my google now but not in hers! The only link we have is that I ordered her phone from my Google account.
The phone itself was registered and has only ever been used with her account though. Could it be because we're on the same WiFi network?
I suppose a solution was never found?
This just started happening with me and my girlfriend. I have a nexus 4 and she has an iPhone 4s. I'm on T-Mobile, she's on att. My searches do not show up on her phone. And something she searched on her phone while stuck in traffic also showed up on my phone when I wasn't anywhere near her. Though I suppose it could've been some sort of WiFi sync when she got home. Anyone still trying to figure this out?

Afraid not. She has a laptop, I have a laptop, the two never cross polinate.
I think I would have worked that out by now. I have never signed in on her laptop.
But, when she searches on her phone, it comes up in my google now.
Something I find with google now is it doesn't show searches from the phone's chrome browser as suggestions, just those from other devices. For some reason it thinks her phone is one of my devices. It doesn't think my phone is one of hers though?
So Mr WolfePack, now solve the case!
Did any of you guys even try what I mentioned above? The least you could do is reply back saying it doesnt work.

It appears to be on my phone and not the SD card. I'm using the Samsung Galaxy III. I'm going to say, "no" I don't use TB Pro since I'm not even sure what it is. Also, my phone isn't rooted to my knowledge in the event that matters.
if you have instagram installed it belongs to that app, its how instagram knows your device, i recently got banned from ig (dont ask y lol) and ive been looking for a way around it, one possible way around the ban is related to that file....my prob is i jus cant seem to find it, ive formatted my sd via windows 8 so hopefully that will do the trick..

That is exactly what it is homie. I had the same thing on my phone. I was able to find out when it was installed, then looked on my google dashboard to see where I was when it got installed. It happened at a bar. My friend Max borrowed my phone and went into the bathroom. Long story short, he thought I was bang'n his girlfriend. I confronted him, and he admitted it and let me see the other end of the app. Cool stuff as long as you're the one watching, and not being watched. It's from sms tracker agent. Look on google play. Somebody wants to know what you are doing when nobody is looking. If you see this and need more details I can provide them.

Ya I've been being stalked now for almost 3 yrs and well I don't really know anything about it due to the fact that I never wanted to but now I kinda wish I did. I have a HTC M7 w/ Verizon and well this is my 10th device they've sent me and well the same problem still seems to exist. So any assistance you could provide would be more then appreciated. My device is not rooted to my knowledge but it definitely gets hot all by itself. I keep deleting the app from my storage and well it keeps re appearing. The crazy thing is my Dialer is always running and this device doesn't even have service. So any help would be Awesomely appreciated.

It is your app data on your google account, then possibly app data on Microsoft accounts such as one drive and one note. Then any other emails are suspect too. I had to change all three of mine because the app data and system settings that are stored kept coming back. Get a new device, and get all new emails and never ever go back to them. Do not even save your contacts. The data will transfer in your contacts.vcf file. Trust me. Abandon ship.

Hi, i have this file coming on all the time and i'd like to know exactly what it is . I've check property few times and once it was created in 1970 (??!!) So I don't think it is from instagram . I've also been jailbroken twice, in a week, then lost my keyboard, then 40 to 50 go from my pics just gone (few were new and not save, but ok) . Then, any info about that files would be great
Is anyone else having issues logging into the NFL Mobile app? It says my username and password or wrong, but I know for a fact that this is not the case.
I know there was a similar problem with the Thunderbolt and I tried that workout around to get it to work on the Rezound, but without any luck.
I had this issue on Newts XxX ROM but on viper Rez it worked the first time.

I don't know if your issue is in any way similar to mine other than the username and password not matching error but I have been dealing with this since march without any results or responses. What I finally found out last week with a very helpful VZW rep was that there are two rezounds associated with my account and prior to this year both phones were able to log on with the account user name and password without any problem. In March of 2012 I noticed I was getting this error and I associated it to the many Roms I was trying out. Long story short the rep asked me to create an account associated to this phone only and everything worked perfectly. In my opinion this is another one of those times whem VZW makes changes to the process without informing there users or reps for that matter.
Hope this helps......

I got my yesterday. It was real late, so I opened up just to check if it was not broken etc.....
Then something occurred to me, my nexus 10 per-configured. At no time did I go through the initial setup as I would do for a new phone or other tablets. This out of the box tablet, unused by me, had all my emails synced, all my apps installed, and it even connected to my home wifi network without ever asking for the wep key ?
Is this normal ? Cause its very very creepy.

It defaults to checked I believe.
I had the option checked and my account wasn't linked.
which is fine because that's what I actually wanted.
Just think, that when they ship them preconfigured (which is hard to believe because that would mean someone has to unpack them and upload all the stuff) and the devices get stolen or "kidnapped" these people would get access to your google account
Google already knows everything about you... doesn't matter what you tick.
Yeah I've found lots of things creepy but also. I think knowing all my wifi passwords was pretty creepy cause those aren't something you really get to choose if Google saves... Google now seems to be affected by what I do on my android phone such as recent navigation paths show up as new cards on tablet.

I was a little disappointed that although I selected the option, mine hadnt been set up.
Wasn't disappointed long though cause I just unlocked and rooted it, which factory reset anyway.

It doesn't come pre-configured nor they unpack them and upload all the stuff. At the time of shipping the Serial Number is linked to your account you purchase from. Turning it on, it reads your Serial Number and configures it for your account.

I'm pretty sure that's not right. Because without Internet it couldn't do that, and I've seen Nexus 7s come out of the box configured before they got connected to Wifi.

Are you saying that Google has your WiFi password?
And it gives this password to their employees to pre-configure your device before shipment?
Imagine, the cost to Google, with the labor being so expensive in the USA, to open each box, take out the wrappings, configure your device, and wrap it again like a brand new unit, with plastics, tape around the box and so forth.
Boggles the mind.
Best regards,
K guys I'm gonna try something new to me: Voice of reason.
Maybe there's a special NFC code that wakes the device and has it connect to some WiFi that is nearby and configure then shut down. If that is the case, all they would need to do is have Samsung ship the devices in a state that would accept a NFC wake (could even be a special hardware wake circuit), scan the device to your order, and leave the box in a WiFi accessible location for an hour and it should all be able to have downloaded. No need for a greasy Google goon to touch your device or know your WiFi passkey. Samsung can seal the box, and Google can just shove info into your tablet from its database. G would never pay an army of people to unbox and play with a million tablets, I am certain.
Do keep in mind that any data that Google has in their database is recoverable - i.e., your privacy being safe just because someone didn't have an opportunity to scribble your wpa2 key down is a naïve notion... Keep your digital life as private as you are comfortable with everyone knowing.

Just like above, or simply it logs on to someone's unsecured WiFi and configures the account based on the Serial Number as I have mentioned above.

As far as I remember if you don't uncheck the syncing options your WIFI password is stored in your google account when setting it up.
Happened to me twice with GB. Made me change the WIFI password.
I'm not sure how long this has been going on but I was on a call to customer service last night trying to get the WatchESPN app running properly on my phone and the "tier 2" technician asked if it would be okay to take control of my phone. I've been in the IT field quite some time and I knew he was asking to remote into my phone (ala pcAnywhere.)
I gave him permission and quickly got a text message saying vdm (Verizon desktop manager?) was trying to connect. I'm rooted with Dubbsy's 4.2.2 GPE ROM and I was nervous about a Verizon rep snooping around my phone (warranty concern.) I'm not sure if it was the ROM or the fact that I was in a bad cell area, but he was never able to connect. We never did get the app to run properly either.
Just giving people a heads up about Verizon's (new???) capability; I've never had anyone ask me in over three years with the company. Careful rooted users, if they see you've rooted they may make a notation (with or without telling you) in your account and when you bring your phone in for service--it may get declined.
Pretty scary stuff. At least they can't get in unattended (we hope?)
I wonder which apk performs this. I'd like to freeze it.

Verizon remote diagnostics...or something similiar to that. I have seen it a couple of times.
Aetherpal
It doesn't work in my builds because the only thing I keep from Verizon is their apns and service. They can keep the bloat and locked down updates. Especially their big brother program...

I did some research on this and, apparently, it's been around for about 18 months and you're both right:
Verizon Remote Diagnostics
Aetherpal teardown
Aetherpal can/does check for root access. There's two good things about this service. First, you can simply refuse the assistance from the customer support. Second, there's a terms of service you have to accept even if you gave permission for them to remote desktop. You can reject the ToS. I haven't had a TW ROM installed on my phone for a long time, so maybe someone else can post a screen of which .apk(s) they can freeze in TiBu.

I'm not sure if this problem is isolated to me or if it affects everyone, so I thought I'd ask.
tl;dr: text messages don't persist on the phone, and in Google Messenger in particular, outgoing texts don't display as part of the conversation.
I use Google Messenger by default, and I noticed that none of the text messages I sent were appearing in the conversation history. Turns out, they weren't reaching the recipients either.
I switched to Google Hangouts, and all of the texts I received from (and sent to) other people before my upgrade were present, but any texts I received from others were gone.
I tried deleting and reinstalling Google Messenger, thinking maybe it was a version/cache thing, and again, any text I received before the upgrade was present, but none since the upgrade, including any I had received while using Google Hangouts.
Something definitely seems f%@#ed up here. Am I alone?

Same here. Verizon's messaging app works though, and actually seems half decent.
Yep just got off phone with VZ support and that is the workaround (use Verizon Messages Plus) they are doling out as a fix to the problem, says tech will be getting in touch with Sony for fix and may be another small update for it.
Lots of reddit users are having the same issue. If you're up for it, it looks like a factory reset will fix the problem.
Had to do a frigging factory reset, but all works well now

FDR sucks, wife will not be happy. I have a replacement phone to activate replacing the one I just updated, so will activate then do factory reset.
Bites.
Is anyone else having tissues access visual voicemail?

Did a factory data reset on new phone after update, takes a long time to boot sets at check mark screen for several minutes, standard text does work now.
Factory reset does fix text
I haven't had many phones. I'm assuming this doesn't happen to often, cause this is crazy. What if only 10% of you having update issues needed your phone for work? How can companies stay in business doing this kind of thing?

If it is a company supplied phone I would think that any modifications would be forbidden, any good IT department would be on top of any shananagans as such. I'm IT for the corporate office I work at (don't be impressed, I'm the office Alphageek and won the title by default.) and when corporate supplied the phones they maintained tight rein over the units. Now we are "bring your own device". As such if your phone is critical for your job and you bork it I would expect corporate to tell you to fix the problem ASAP even if it means buying another phone.

That must have you hopping all over the place like a rabbit trying to fix everyone's issues. But I was speaking more about Verizon's consumer base relying upon their phones in general.

My bad, I see your point now. For an official update this one has created a world of grief for many that installed it via the "official" route. Usually a factory reset is a last resort to many and apparently for this update it looks like a required step.
[EDIT] Just checked the official Verizon forums. People are struggling with the same problems that are being posted here. It looks like a couple have figured out a factory reset works and are trying to spread the word, there is very little Verizon help showing up.

A few years ago it did back when we were running a mix of name brand systems (Dell, Gateway and HP). I would say it occupied 30-50% of my time, since then we have standardized on Dells running Windows 7. That is a bulletproof combination in an office environment. I know everyone bad mouths Dells but since we with Dell/Win 7 my workload has dropped 90%.

Thanks, but already did the FDR, wasn't to bad, just time consuming. FDR does fix the problem though.

Do you realize that the text issue is completely unrelated to any "modification". This phone was "borked" by a VZ-pushed OTA. I had to do a factory reset last night, lost my corporate e-mail set up through Touchdown. I also missed communications previously, while I was unaware of the texting issue. Those texts are just "gone" now. This is very poor form on the part of VZ, not even checking that texting will continue to work after users upgrade.

I wasn't implying you goofed up your phone, just following up on AddictedtoGlass's comments, sorry if it came across that I was.
Yeah, this update does seem to be causing more grief than usual. That may be keeping with the comments I stumbled across in Verizon's forums claiming that the code sent to Verizon by Sony wasn't "up to snuff" in Verizon's opinion and that is why Verizon sit on the update so long. Looks like they should have sit on it a little bit longer. I'm on 5.0.2 and my phone is pretty stable so I'm content to stay there until this is all straightened out, if ever.
I have been trying to find more info on Verizon's community forums but they have managed to make their forums so hard to navigate now that finding particular threads is almost impossible. I guess that is one way of controlling the flood of complaints.
