[ Detailed guide ] [ How to ] Improve battery life & performance of ace. - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

UPDATED : 5th October 2013
Welcome to the Viper's thread on performance and battery life !
On topic : As you all know, no matter what ROM you use, no matter what the kernel is, you always seem to find a compromise for performance over battery life. If you are a guy that roams around with the charger after every 4-5 hours, and expect both performance as well as battery life, THIS THREAD IS FOR YOU !!
We'll start with the most basic settings for this and then go through under clocking etc. Let's get started !
Basic settings to have better battery life & performance :
Under the settings menu, do the followings :
1) Accounts & sync - untick background data and auto-sync.
2) Privacy - untick backup & restore.
3) Location & security - untick all.
4) Sound- Disable haptic feedback.
5) Display - Set low screen brightness, select no window animations, disable auto-rotation if you don't use landscape mode much/at all .
6) Applications- Development--> Untick usb debugging & untick allow mock locations.
7) Mobile networks : Tick use 2G only if you don't want to lose battery soon while browsing.
Some recommendations :
1) Do not use task killers frequently. Kill the tasks once. If not much memory is revived, reboot your device. I recommend rebooting your device atleast twice a day for lag free, better performance .
2) Once your battery gets as low as 15 to 20%, charge for 3 hours without a break.
3) Many roms come with applications that you never use. Either delete them using a root explorer if you never use them or just go to Settings --> Applications --> Manage applications ---> select the app you don't use --> force stop, in case you want to use those apps in the future .
4) Find the lighter alternatives for the heavy apps you use. For example, facebook touch over facebook for android.
5) If you're on cm7, under the cyanogenmod settings--> performance --> Enable 16 bit transparency, untick surface dithering, enable purging of assets, set zram compression to 26% under memory management for increased virtual capacity ( These options are available on CM10.1 too ) .
6) If you're on cm10.1, under the developer options, reduce window scale animations to zero, limit background processes as per your need to have a better battery life and more free RAM.
Thanks to brewy for making me assimilate the vitality of force stopping an unused app
7) Do not theme your launcher heavily. Use only those widgets that are needed. Heavy theming consumes more RAM, consequently, low battery.
Scripts that can be used:
1) Adrenaline engine : Included in most of the ROMs
Thread link : Here
Thanks to Imbawind .
2) Full GPU rendering : To reduce the CPU load & force the phone to use GPU for enhanced graphics. Thanks slaid
Thread link : Here
=-Or-=
If you are on cm10.1, under the developer options, you can enable the gpu rendering without the need of any script.
3) Adrenaline boost : It is a great script if you want just that hint of a boost for gaming.
Thread link : Here
Thanks to Imbawind again
4) Battery bar mod script : You have to draw your own results after flashing the script.
Thread link : Here
Thanks to : tazlooney89
5) Project silk : Another nice script for your overall performance & battery starvation.
Thread link : Here
Thanks to : Pulsedroid
6) Fly on mod : Another script mostly similar to the adrenaline engine.
Thread link : Here
Thanks to : slaid480
7) Pure Performances X : Recommended & works like a charm on all android versions !
Thread link : Here
Thanks to : Jeeko
8) Cross Breeder: This is another awesome performance enhancer & this script works on all the devices. It comes with a built in entropy generator like the fly on mod & the pure performances x. It also supports ad blocking to get rid of those annoying pop-ups on your shiny phone. You can update these host files periodically using the adaway app, check out the OP of the tweak to know more. Many more features this script offers, just visit the development thread to know more.
Note: Do not use seeder with this mod. You can only use it to monitor the entropy available. For more details on this, check the OP of the tweak.
Thread link: Here
Thanks to: idcrisis
NOTE : Enable USB debugging mode in the development settings before flashing any of the scripts. Fly on mod & pure performances x come with integrated entropy generator so no need to install Seeder over them. Check out the op of fly on mod to know how to enable/disable the entropy generator manually using terminal emulator. On pure performances x, the entropy generator is enabled by default.
Under clocking :
Under clocking limits the frequency of your phone and allows you to choose between different governors and I/O schedulers. This results in better battery life. But if you don't want to underclock the whole thing and prefer performance with screen on and battery life with screen off ( i.e., on stand by ), go through this thread by my dear friend SuperAce609 :
Thanks to him
Thread link : Here
You can use set CPU for root users or similar apps to set the profiles of your choice.
Apps :
Seeder : I use the Seeder entropy app for lag reduction ( moderate mode ) with all the options checked in ( ticked/opted or whatever you call it ) .
I think the app is free for XDA users.
Tweaks app on stock : This app is mostly included in all the stock based roms. It encloses several tweaks with darktremor a2sd support. Open this app, grant su permissions, tick everything except media straightfright & Darktremor a2sd. Hit apply & reboot.
All these steps and settings have been tested by myself on a cm7 ROM with fire kernel for nearly a week and I can definitely say, my battery that once lasted for just a matter of hours with much of the time on standby, now lasts easily over a day for moderate use . For browsing on edge, it lasts for about 2 hours. I just lost just 7% of battery after listening to over 1.5 hours of non stop music ! Btw, my phone and battery are nearly 2 years old ! Hope this helps you all ! It took nearly an hour for me to write this thread up ! So don't forget to leave a thanks behind .

Well, there aren't much options you know. All the under clocking etc., stuffs were mentioned in almost all the threads. But no one had mentioned about the most basic settings that considerably help even an unrooted / non-rooted user. I just integrated all the stuffs posted earlier with some of mine to make it a complete guide, so that newbies can find everything at a place.

first this is noot a themed rom like the other. It includes the xperia framework and many xperia apps , libs and others.
Secondly, the Flash player is already included, no need to install another one.
Finally the Fserves kernel is already included in the latest release v1.4.
Thank you for your work.

Thanks for pointing out my mistakes..,
Now, could u tell which among fserves kernel you have included?so that I can include it in faq cos many people wonder which kernel it is since it shows blank in about phone .and I misunderstood you bcos u had given credit to Franco for kernel!have edited my first post!
Edit:having a strange bug, whenever I plugin my charger n use the phone, touch lags n keyboard types letters on its own..using Franco.gbs.v18c
Edit 2:works fine now after just unplugging the charger n repluggging it

Ok, I had some impromptu questions.
At first look the ROM looks great. I'm not concerned about the battery life, just the performance. Could anyone post their neocore fps and advanced quadrant scores? [just as a reference]
Also, does this ROM/kernel combo solve the CPU drain problem caused due to our touchscreen? Basically can one play HD Games on it sans any lag?
And, for which kernels is this ROM intergrated?
Thanks.
Its based on. 32 kernel ..neocore as per a user's report in dev forum is 62fps(with sound) and quadrant advanced is sumwhere around 15xx..
I do not know about the CPU drain but battery is good and touch responsiveness is really good..its really fast..
I played nfs shift without anylag

NFS Shift does not require touching the screen.

Sharing tweaks for CM9 Galaxy ACE

Hey guys, I made this thread so everyone can share there best tweaks to make CM9 very fast and power efficiency.
So my one is v6 supercharger.
How about yours?
I don't really think this thread is worth much but here goes.
I don't actually use cm9 because it's to lagy....
Otherwise:
System:
-CPU: 480-806MHz
-GOVERNOR: SMARTAZZv2
-GPU: Chainfire 3d with Nividia plugin
-Scripts: Adrenaline engine
Apps:
-launcher: Nova/Apex
-Lockscreen: Holo locker
-Browser: Opera mini
-Theme: Jelly Bean UI
-File Explorer:Solid
And.............. that's all I have time for
or better, share your tweaks and your battery life! because this is the main problem of cm9

[APP] Seeder - reduce lag and make wildfire fast

seeder is an apps that is focused on reducing the lag that sometimes occur while opening apps and switching to home screen.
I tried this on my phone and it does have an effect. I tried this on CM6. it is said this apps works better in pre-ICS devices.

I'm using the light profile, which as the dev says cause minimum battery drain. and I still haven't experience any considerable impact on battery life. I guess it's fair enough to sacrifice some juice to get more performance. I think you'll agree.
also strangely enough, I get better performance from the light profile than the aggressive ones.
thanks for the info on crossbreeder, would keep an eye on it.
Agreed, i also have it integrated in my aokp rom.Just a few terminal commands activate seeder.

yep, an app offers customization whereas a flashable zip is something like plug-and-play.
but if there is no need for any customization, I think a zip would just do the Job fine.
but it's always great to have freedom for customization. which is why I love Android

It depends, I guess on which rom you use, and other stuff, but if you want better performance over battery life then aggressive profile will do, but if you are more into saving juice then light profile will be useful.
Just play around with the phone with different profiles and see which one is best for you.
IO Queue, My guess; the events that must be handled by the processer are queued before they are actually processed, IO schedulers decide the order which they are sent into the processor. So I guess by extending the IO queue it makes Sheduler decisions more better.
This is as to my own knowledge.
Correct me if I'm wrong '
P.S. - I'm currently not using Extend IO queue option.

Nope, you can't use it along with Seeder. Crossbreeder is designed to stop other similar apps like Seeder. So it's seeder or Crossbreeder.

How To Improve Gaming Performance On Xperia U CM11 KitKat

Hello! I have discovered a way to improve gaming performance, as well as overall phone performance. These tips/tweaks have been tested by me several times on ALL Cyanogen Mod roms, and the results were positive :good:
Follow the following instructions!
Go to SETTINGS and scroll down to open up PERFORMANCE ( on CM10.1, CM10.2 and CM11 you will need to click on BUILD NUMBER several times until a notification appears saying 'you are now a developer' for the PERFORMANCE and DEVELOPER OPTIONS to appear)
Change the 'governer' to SMARTASSv2
Then change the e/s to 'sio' (it is recommended for dual-cored devices)
Now go all the way back to DEVELOPER OPTIONS, scroll down and change ALL the WINDOW TRANSMISSION (or something like that ) to .5 or 0 if you like
After that select FORCE 2D GPU RENDERING
If auto-brightness is selected disable it as it consumes alot of power and keeps the cpu working high
Once all these steps are completed reboot your phone
NOW TEST ANY GAME AND YOU'LL REALISE THE IMPROVEMENT IN PERFORMANCE !!!
You know that switching to ART improves CPU performance 2x

★ [MOD] ◢ PurePerformances™X ◣ | Zeno Edition | Scary performances on Android
Dear Mega-lovers!
I love my mega and I often flash new builds and ROM's. Since day 1 I always flashed the PurePerformances MOD. It really works and it is really worth looking at the original thread. I do not own any credit of this MOD, I just wanted to share it with you, my fellow mega-fans.
Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/mod-pureperformancesx-zeno-edition-t2360985
Enjoy!
PS: I would love to thank @Jeeko to make this mod happen. Don't forget to give a ''thanks'' on his post!
Thanks for share bro.

Update: nice performance boost but noticed rapid battery drain on my i527m. Went from like 56% to 29% within about 45min to an hour. Ended up uninstalling because of this issue. Hope they can remedy this downside.

Hi, how to uninstall please?
Uninstaller from the main thread
http://www.mediafire.com/download/gnfh45p2ao2th07/PurePerformances™X_Uninstaller.zip
I installed it on my Mega. Positively see no changes or anything faster.. all same, same app launch times, same times for copy paste or move files around, same benchmarks, same gui speed, same everything.. nice try but pointless. I am yet to EVER see any script or "speed booster" app that ever does actually anything. It's down to processor speed and available RAM.
I have a custom kernel installed on my stock ROM and allows over clocking the CPU from stock 1.7GHz to 2.1GHz.. folks, that's the real speed booster..
Everything else is imaginary.. period.
