[Q] Semi-Random shutdown - HTC Amaze 4G

Hi,
I just got the Amaze from e-bay and it seems like a really cool phone. One annoying issue that I found so far though is that if I leave it alone for a few hours, it shuts down. The HTC battery's usually still full when I boot up the device. The power button becomes slightly unresponsive. I usually have to take the battery out for a few seconds before turning it back on so it'll work (although it could just be me being impatient) Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to make it ...not do that?
It's on stock 4.03, Sense 3.6. (baseband 1.14.550L.17DC_30.78.550L.15D) Recently rooted/bootloader unlocked, though I think that shouldn't matter much since I think I remember it happening before the whole process.
thanks

[Q] Frustration with lockscreen delay... Is there a solution?

Hi there, Ive had a SGS2 for about 24 hours now and am about ready to send it back and get a refund. Its driving me insane. One one had, its a fantastic phone, looks great, fast as hell, really neat features.
But one feature I cant stomach is the 10 second lag I get when waking the phone. 10 seconds from when I press home or power to being able to open the lock screen. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I understand from other posts that this may be related to a power saving feature, but in all honesty, what other phones have this poor response time?
Does anyone have a solution? Ive tried rooting, updating firmware, kernel, lockscreen etc. No joy. It kills me that I have to send it back because of this stupid bitty issue, but I will break this phone in frustration in a few weeks if I keep it...
S
You should get it replaced. Mine is .5 seconds before it turns on. it's REALLY fast to turn on on mine. I'd say faster than my iphone 4. I think you've got a fuddy duddy.
I have a sneaky suspicion you're exaggerating the delay by about 9 seconds. I agree a delay of any sort on a phone of this spec is annoying (my MIUI flashed HD2 had zero delay) but is it enough to return the phone? Not in my opinion, it's a software issue.
I will be happy when a solution is discovered of course but for the time being there are more annoying issues on this phone. Like the constant '3G' to 'H' switching on data connection.
nope, you must have something faulty happening there. 10 seconds is not normal at all. not in my experience anyway. There IS a lag unlike any other phone when hitting the home button. I hate it too. but 10 seconds!? That's crazy. If it doesn't cost you then you should get it replaced.
Of course you could try rooting/flashing to see if it helps but then all that extra hassle if it doesn't work and you still have to return it.
'power saving feature' is not true... phone is doing the same as most decent smartphones out there in terms of battery.
despite all this, I love this device. I truly believe it is the best handset available right now. period!
Im afraid Im not exaggerating, just timed it, 9 seconds from lights on to lockscreen being responsive. Ive tried flashing it, Went from Vodafone BUKE1 to XWKE7 and no difference. Will flash it back to BUKE1 and send it back.

Click to collapse
Then your phone is faulty. Mine becomes responsive after about a second and has always been that way, even on the stock rom before I rooted or flashed VillainRom. An unusual fault though, as I'd bet my bottom dollar it's software related.
That's a fault. People talk about a small (<1 second) delay... Probably < 0.5s
My SGS2 doesn't even take 0.5secs, its almost instantaneous. you should get an exchange.
@OP- 10 seconds are horrible. Though mine also takes >1 second. But I have noticed that when the Phone is charging (AC/USB) it comes up instantly, the lag occurs when the phone is off charge.
Regards.
I have a small lag too. Sometimes up to 3 sec.
Seams to be a software issue.
10 sec sounds strange...
I'm thinking of a lockscreen replacement.
Is there anyone that will remove the lockscreen delay?

[Q] Is there a fix for 3VO shut downs?

I haven't seen any actual fixes just a lot of reports from people regarding their EVO 3D shutting down and requiring a battery pull to get working.
I have owned the device for two weeks. I bought the phone on eBay. The phone is a refurb (VTO 11/23/11 sticker under battery). The first week the phone ran great. Not a single issue at all, but I was using the phone nearly all the time. The last few days the newness has cooled off and I've been using it mainly for reading via the Kindle app. If I don't use the phone for any length of time (a few hours to a few minutes) it will not wake up. The phone requires a battery pull.
Currently:
Stock 2.17 - no apps, just logged into Gmail
H-Boot 1.5 - Locked, not rooted
Formatted 16GB microSD
Tried wedging paper behind battery
Made a phone call to my phone when it locked and it kept ringing like it was on but the screen never lit up/no led blinking, etc. Anyone get this resolved? If you had your phone replaced, what HW version do you have now?
This happened to my phone two days ago too. I've had the phone for over a month now and I'm hoping it won't happen again...
What hw version do you have?
What is 'hw'?
Sorry, hardware version. Menu - settings - about phone - hardware information - hardware version. Mine is 0002. I'm wondering if its hardware related.
Just for the heck of it, I performed the HTC Unlock and flashed TWRP via Fastboot. I installed deck's ICS alpha7 and left it on battery overnight and so far all day today. Battery doesn't last nearly as long (assuming it's the early stage ROM) but it hasn't shut off once. Maybe it needs more time but I'm leaning to Sense being the issue which sucks because Sense 3 was my personal favorite.
Anyone else out there with this issue?
Try steelH's rom if you prefer sense. I've been running it since day one and haven't had any issues out of it. Also I modified the hell out of it and its performance is definitely excellent as well as battery life.

Newb has OTA ICS with some issues and may want to root and rom?

Backstory and Issues:I have had my Rezound for about a month and a half now. Loved the phone while still on GB, wanted to make sure everything worked right on it before rooting and changing anything. I upgraded to the OTA and have a few issues now:
The phone is laggy. This is especially noticed in games, some were smoother on my Droid 2. I was playing 100 Gates earlier, took a screenshot and the phone froze for a minute or so.
The battery takes much longer to charge
Get a little higher battery drain and higher temps. This seems to be settling out some, or I'm not paying as much attention.
Red soft keys turn on a bit before the screen does (different intervals)
When I turn it off to charge, then back on, the home screen pops up for a split second, before the white HTC screen; once through the boot animations everything takes long time to finally load up.
Questions:
Do I try exchanging the phone, even though it all worked good before the OTA?
Should I just root it and put on a rom and see if that helps any?
Can anyone give me a walkthrough on what the process of unlocking, rooting, and flashing a new rom, would be for a stock OTA ICS? I was comfortable with my old Droid 2, but this is a different process and scares me.
Thanks,
Justin

[Q] What made my phone go bonkers last night?

So I was chilling at a local restaurant and tried to use my phone by pressing the power button. Screen came on but it froze and than it began to reboot on its own. It kept transitioning between Sprint 4GLTE screen and HTC quietly brilliant screen back and forth. That went on for about two hours and I could feel my phone getting hotter and hotter. When I came home, I searched the XDA forum for similar issue and was able to factory reset my phone by pressing power + volume down button.
My phone has never been rooted, I don't know how to since it is my first android phone. I have apps, but I am very picky about what I download in my phone. So my question is, what happened? Is this a known issue that happens or is this a sign of something bad happening with my phone? It is working so far, since factory reset, but I am a little uneasy since it happened without any reason.
Probably just didn't agree with the food... Bada cshh..
Wouldn't worry too much, sometimes those things happen out of nowhere. If it keeps happening take it into get an exchange. Doesn't happen to me. I've had 3 EVO LTE's and no boot loops like that at all.
Had a slightly simular issue when I first got my phone and had it in a TPU case. Noticed that for whatever reason my power button would stick. After 5 months, I think the power button is nice and used so it doesn't have the tendency to stick nearly as much.
Not 100% this is your issue but this is what my experience was early on.

[Q] Extremely wierd SGS3 Problem

Okay first of all, I've scoured not only XDA but even Google for an answer to this problem to no avail. So if anyone has/knows of any thread that has the answer, please kindly reply or notify me so we can have this thread removed.
Here goes,
I'm experiencing a very unique (afaik) problem with my Galaxy S3. This started a few months back, when the phone started getting random reboots/ freezes and terrible battery life on ANY ROM/Kernel. I've tried CM, SlimBean/Kat, and even Stock and nothing worked. Finally I figured maybe the battery was shot. So a few days ago I went and got a new battery, and that's when it got weird.
I used the latest SlimKat after replacing the battery and after powering on the device, EVERYTHING seems perfect. It's really fast and responsive, battery drain while screen is on is extremely acceptable, things worked like new again. UNTIL I switched off the display, after 5 mins, I pulled out the phone and it was switched off. At first I thought maybe the initial charge wore down so I charged the phone to full, then powered it on. Again, everything went smoothly BUT, after switching off the display for more than 1 minute, the phone shuts off automatically.
I switched to the latest stock 4.3 ROM and restored everything to factory settings and it seems to have helped at first. As usual, everything is fast and battery doesn't drain so much BUT, after putting the phone to sleep, it takes 5-10 seconds for the screen to wake after pressing the power button, and even if it wakes up, it becomes EXTREMELY laggy and often freezes requiring a reboot. As usual, after a fresh reboot, everything becomes awesome again until I have to turn the display off for more than a minute.
I've tried everything, even installing an app that prevents deep sleep but the problem persists. It improved a little after flashing stock rom and reverting everything back so I'm really hoping this isn't a hardware issue. Is there maybe something else I can try, settings/software-wise? The phone is almost 2 years old and is already out of warranty.
I'm hoping it's not the sleep of death thing because the phone isn't exactly bricked. I can still use it for as long as it doesnt have to go into deep sleep (I turn it off before putting in my pocket and turn it on again when I need to browse/use the camera which is all it's good for in its current state.)
Also, the symptoms don't really fit the usual "Sleep of Death/Brickbug" Symptoms I've read about.
Hey, I remember having a similar problem. I formatted both my internal sd and external sd. Haven't had any problems ever since. Hope this helps.

Already tried that. I did full wipes/formats on all my installs. I even tried not having an external SD inserted for the Odin installs. I tried not installing any app on the phone and it still gets messed up after going to sleep. As fresh installed AOSP or Pure Stock ROM. Odin flashes no problem so I'm really hoping nothing hardware-wise is messed up. I had to re-flash PIT after getting a new battery though, could I have messed something up there that would lead to this?
There is an app for that deep sleep syndrome, it's on playstore its calles brick check or something like that, if you cant find just google it.
And I dont think that could be software problem, BUT depends on what apps you used, flashes you made.
Hope it hepls
Well, i don't think its deith break, but i had the same essue with unofficial 4.3 and then at official 4.3 it worked well,
it may be a break in the motherboard or something.. as u tried every rome avilable it couldn't be softwear thing..
the app for emmc firmware is called 'eMMC check', you can find it on playstore
edit: does your phone heat up? or battery? did your display ever turned blue when waking up from sleep?
it could be also a short with your display/motherboard or other connectors or battery connector... and the protection kicks in
if you're good with tools and phone is not under warranty, you could disassemble it and reassemble/reseat the connectors
or, could be the power button shorting, if you decide to open it, examine the power button
@Eibram did you ever undervolt or overclock when using custom kernels or roms? Because it could be hardware damage.
Also, do as they tell you above, check if you have the insane f01 emmc chip. I know it's a common missconception going around that since 4.1.2 the SDS got fixed, but it didn't really get fixed since it's a firmware problem in the emmc patched through software which just makes it highly unlikely to happen (but not impossible).
I did some minor undervolting way back before JB came out but not since over half a year ago. I did the eMMc check and yes, I do have the inane chip.
Just an update, I re-flashed a PIT file and a rescue firmware and it seems to have helped a bit. It was running fine for over 12 hours aside from a random reboot just now.
I'm observing the phone right now to see wether the reboot was just coincidental. I really wish this is just a software thing.
Okay one more update, 2 days in and I've only experienced the one random reboot. It's still sometimes slow when waking up, but something around 2-5 secs sore not 5-15 seconds slow. I'm thinking that must be due to touchwiz bloat.
