[Q] How to transfer files while in a boot loop - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i put the wrong rom on my i9300 and it went into a boot loop and i want to put the right rom on. i downloaded it on my computer but i can't transfer my files until i actual boot successfully. any suggestions? unfortunately, i haven't backed up my phone in a while so i wouldn't really want to factory reset.

grab a sd card and put the files on them, then flash in recovery

Try to flash a stock ROM, and see what happens next then

No, don't flash a stock ROM, because then you will HAVE to do a factory reset.
Can you access recovery? Push the file via adb.
And anyway, you have to do a factory reset when switching ROMs, what were you thinking?

Hi, i solved the problem, first of all, it was a bad rom and then i was using outdated gapps. none of my non-system google apps work but i'll just solve that by intalling and reinstalling them. at least play works

I'd really appreciate some help guys, I've searched everywhere but can't seem to find answers.

The procedure was:
-deleted all files in internal SD
-Reboot into CWM Recovery
-Wipe data,cache,dalvik
-install zip from sd card
and now im stuck
Please help, and apologies if any noob mistakes were made

You'll lose all your data but do a factory reset and wipe your system in addition to what you've already done and re flash the rom. FYI always have a nandroid backup around before flashing. It's time consuming but saves you a lot of grief in the long run

Factory reset(wipe) is an option in cwm(3rd from above) wipe and reflash the rom and let it boot, this can take 10min
1st check md5 .. it will show u wether its bad download or nt ... and then do this
go into cwm and to wipe data\factory reset wipe cache wipe dalvik and insll rom ..
omega 10 is up so better try omega 10 as its new rom :

Factory reset is on the main Cwm screen. You can wipe system through the 'mounts and storage' option

How would put it into my internal SD if I can't transfer the file because I can only boot into Recovery or Download mode? Do I just Odin it straight in via the PDA option?
If you connect your phone with the PC while in recovery you should be able to use adb commands
Put the rom file into the adb folder than try
Code:
adb devices
now you should see any cryptic combination of letters and numbers in the next row
(if you see a empty row... that wouldn't be nice^^)
then do:
Code:
adb push yourromfile.zip /sdcard/yourromfile.zip
than try flashing again the new file
dont forget to do a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik wipe, the common procedure^^
PS:
If you don't know about adb, it is installed with the android sdk, but you can download it seperately
place the ADB folder somewhere on you system hd, maybe directly to C:\
the open cmd and type
cd C:\ADB\
now you're able to use the above commands
You can put it on an external sd and flash it from there...
Verstuurd van mijn GT-I9300 met Tapatalk
Thank you, all of you... I will try this tomorrow and tell you guys how it goes!
Thank you so much EVERYONE, It all worked out, seems like the original file was corrupted, now running omega 10 smoothly!!!!!!!

Help With Booting, Getting Back Custom Rom

I attempted to flash a custom rom and it didn't work. No my phone is stuck on the motorola screen. What do I need to do to get back to stock rom?
Can you please explain simply what did you do? Which rom or which steps did you followed? Just to clarify Things
You cannot flash a custom rom right from start. Did you flash a .sbf by chance?
I attempted to flash CM7 after unlocking and rooting. I have Clockwork mod installed. How do I flash an sbf file? I don't beleive I did that. AM I screwed then?
Ok, can you access to the recovery mode at least?

ok, then...
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Cache
Just in case, download another ROM in case zip file is corrupt
Go to Mounts and storage -> mount USB storage
Copy the Custom ROM you've downloaded
Unmount then go back
Install zip from sdcard -> flash the rom you've downloaded
Then reboot and be patient... leave it like 5 minutes or so to see if anything happens.
oh, and one more thing... did the flashing finished with errors?

If my SD card is already mounted, do I need to mount and unmount? When I go to USB storage, only option I have is unmount, so I should already be mounted. How do I copy the ROM and where do I copy it to?
Flashing CM7 did nt finish with errors

Did you try restoring the nandroid backup you created after unlocking your bootloader and before flashing CM7?
There is information about getting back to stock on the "answers" post stickied in Q&A.

I never could get it to do a backup. So that won't work with getting me back to stock. I'll jsut try to flash one of those fruitcake things. Says its going to take an hour to download. IF that doesn't work, can you help guide me how to flash one in fastboot?
The fact that you couldn't get CWM to do a backup should have told you that recovery wasn't installed properly and you should have stopped there and asked for help. I saw your post over on Th3bill's AOKP thread, and since you saw the AT&T boot animation I'm guessing the ROM never installed.
How did you root and boot?
What happened when you tried to perform a backup?
What happened when you tried to flash the new ROM?
What is the current state of your device? You said you can access recovery, what happens now if you try to boot?
keep us posted pal, good luck!

How did I root and boot?
I used automatic unlock. It unlocked and rooted my phone. I verified root access by installing superuser and and root checker. It said I was fully rooted
What happened when you tried to perform a backup?
I can't remember
What happened when you tried to flash the new ROM?
I flashed it, it said it installed successfully or something. I rebooted the phone. It never would go past the at&t loading screen. I pulled out the battery and restarted the phone, wouldn't go past the motorola screen that time. I tried reflashing the ROM and I'm still stuck at the motorola screen.
Oh and when I try to do anything in fastboot via command prompt, it keeps saying < waiting for device > and nothing ever happens.
Still waiting for the stock gingerbread fruitcake to finish downloading.

Try wiping dalvik cache in recovery. Not all phones work with A2SD.. What phobe are you using? It might be better off with Link2SD which is a bit different but it has the same premise. Reply to this post directly if you need more help or if my suggestion doesn't work, because I don't feel the need to suscribe to minor threads.

Then you probably did something at the system-level. Maybe you tried linking a system app to your sd? Your best bet (easiest fix) would be to reinstall whatever ROM you were using. I don't think you'd have to wipe data if you install the same ROM.

[Q] Samsung S3 i9300 stuck in bootloop

Self-explanatory really.
I updated my phone a few weeks ago to Omnirom 4.4.4, one of the nightly builds and everything was going well.
Today I installed a couple of apps, and tonight the screen started flickering and the phone reset, however when it started again, it went into a bootloop.
How do I get it working again without losing the files that are on the internal memory? (I don't know which resets in CWM delete personal data)
Thanks

Flash latest (6.0.4.7) CWM or latest TWRP (2.7.1.0 if Im not wrong) and reflash the rom.
Wiping data, and formatting partitions doesnt get you wiped internal memory files; but apps and things installed.

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but would you happen to know of a guide for flashing the stock ROM?
Would it fix by flashing a different ROM, such as Cyanogenmod which I have in the download folder on the phone?
If like you said you don't want to lose data don't flash stock rom this will wipe your data fist thing you need to do is install PhilZ recovery then look here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/i93xx-philz-touch-t2002953 << then look at the special features section here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39433728#post39433728 << look for the aroma file manager and how to use.
You will then be able to boot into recovery browse your internal files with aroma and move and copy/backup what you need, once you have done all that you will then be able to return to stock with odin.
Edit

[Q] MISTERY: Did an nandroid backup and device won't start

Hello everyone, I hope you can help me on this one since I'm already panicking.:
I have a Galaxy S3 international version, with Android 4.2.2, rooted, Philz recovery.
Wanted to flash a custom ROM, backed up EFS folder and data. Only thing missing was doing a NANDROID backup. Did the NANDROID backup to sdcard and rebooted....and now device won't start; it's stuck on the "SAMSUNG" logo. , WHAT THE HELL DID I WRONG?
I haven't formated anything or handled any system folders or anything. Just went , like in previous android phones, to recovery, made backup and rebooted. Any ideas? many thanks!

If its stuck in a bootloop factory reset and wipe cache in recovery. If that does not work install your backup and lastly if that doesn't work flash stock with odin.
Always remember the first thing to try whenever you are stuck in a bootloop is to factory reset wipe cache in recovery.

Good question but unfortunately I've not got a definite answer for you. Some times it is files leftover from a flash but no matter how experienced you are at flashing, bootloops are just one of those things you have to get used to.[emoji1]
