Hey guys I seem to have lost my Gingerbread stock browser. I was playing with widgets and I wanted to make some space and "removed" my browser from the home panels..not the application panel. Now when I went into applications I cannot seem to find my stock browser!! How do I get it back?! Please help this is very annoying...
Also I don't want to use any other browser..I tried dolphin, and various others..I am not happy with them. Stock seemed to be the smoothest, fastest, and appealing browser to me.
You can't delete the stock browser. Did you check and recheck all the icons in your app drawer? It could be there, I know myself looking over an app for like 10 times, then discover I have it installed when going through the market.
Try a reboot or something, I hope it'll help.

I did a reboot. I'm not sure what you mean by app drawer? Is that the same as the "application" menu with all the apps installed? I'm new to android I just got the Galaxy S2 two days ago, so bare with me. I did the google search in my phone also to help me find it, and it cannot locate it. In fact you need the browser for it so when it asked me to view a web page it asked to use "dolphin" or "skyfire" not my "Internet" browser.
You can't delete Stock browser. You may have deleted the Widget but no way one can remove the system browser. Even I doubt it if it's possible to delete by TB, so it must there in Menu.
Regards.
Yes the App Drawer is the official name for the menu with all the icons. It's very weird you could remove the stock browser. And that you can't select it anymore.
Does your phone give any errors when using the dialer (the app you use to call someone)? Since the SGS2's Dialer.apk relies on the Browser.apk (filename for an android app), weirdly enough.
You cannot remove an app when using the home menu. At least not using the stock TouchWiz interface.
If you have no errors or problems, it HAS to be there.
This happend to me to on my galaxy tab. I think I did it with titanium back up. I don't know how you did it but you can reflash stock software with odin and get it back. You might lose your data.
It's working now. I spent a few hours trying to figure out what happen to the browser! I gave up. Funny thing is before this issue I flashed my ROM to Litening 3.2 I didn't like the bugs on it..especially the very heavy laggy internet bug! So I got a new browser didn't like it. While I was moving my widgets around I usually "remove" them and go back to my app draw to place them again where I want. I went to my app draw...no internet browser. After unable to figure it out..I reflashed my ROM back to the previous litening ROM 3.0. Then what do you know the browser came back! It has nothing to do with litening ROM, but I'm guessing it has a browser.apk in it so it installed it for me again.
I just went through updating to the new firmware and flashed cleanrom and I'm noticing a few problems that I can't figure out by basic searching around.
First (and this is minor), when I adjust the brightness of the screen in the dropdown menu, it doesn't "stick" after the screen is turned off then on again, it goes back to the default brightness unless I lower the brightness in the settings menu. This isn't a big deal, but if someone knows a fix or if I'm missing something I'd appreciate input.
The second issue is more irritating. No matter what I do, the system chooses a default browser app when I click an internet related link. I prefer not to set a default, and it really gets annoying when I click a youtube or play store link and it brings me to the stock browser instead of letting me choose the designated app. Clearing default on the stock browser makes me go directly to chrome instead, and unchecking chrome makes me go to the stock browser again. I have never had this happen on any other phone, device, or ROM I've ever had, and I'm going crazy because its the first time I honestly can't figure out why its doing this! I think I've narrowed it down to the "htclinkifydispatcher" app, because if I freeze the app it doesn't do anything at all (as opposed to opening either chrome or 'internet'). I just want my app selection window back!
Honestly this is just getting in the way of me thoroughly enjoying reddit on my phone at work, so its extra frustrating
Does anyone know about this problem or a way to solve it? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I've tried rewiping and flashing the rom again to no avail, the same issues persist.
EDIT 2: I fixed the second problem, so if anyone else is experiencing this, (back it up first just in case) delete htclinkifydispatcher, it seems to have a strong desire to select your default browser for you instead of allowing you to choose for yourself, and simply freezing it does nothing.
Thanks for this post. I was unable to authenticate Folder Sync with Dropbox due to problems with htclinkifydispatcher. Your post helped me diagnose and fix the issue (delete the apk.)
Does that rom have app associations in the system settings like BAMF 1.1?

Yes, it does.
Ok I was curious because that was how I fixed the HTC browser from being the default and switched it to Google Chrome under web URLs.
hi guys,
I have a ics tablet, and I am getting really frustrated with Opera mobile keep reloading while I'm in another app or two. my tablet has 1gb ram. I tried autokiller memory optimizer, and auto memory manager to keep opera alive, but its not permanent. and V6 supercharger sounds wayy to complicated for me. and this tablet doesn't have a recovery (its rooted though), so the instruction sounds more complicated to me. so I saw one post in xda somewhere, that I can modify build.prop to set oom priority and it will be kept permanently. is this actually possible? I would really love to do this for opera mobile and adw launcher ex. just these 2. if this is possible, could you give me an instruction? or any other way to do this?
thanks very much!
Nobody can help me??

are you only having this issue with your browser, or with every app on the phone?
have you tried other browsers?

Thanks, but I really don't think this tablet has a recovery. We flash ROMs on this tablet with a computer with an img file. The tablet name is Cube U9gt2, a chinese tablet. Quite a few people have this.

This is most of the apps. I think when people see 1gb ram, it's A LOT, but if I start using it, it's not that big, specifically on Honeycomb or ICS, because my Acer Iconia tab a500 also has 1gb ram, but not a lot of apps can stary ALIVE and can be immediately switched to, without reloading, like webpages in web browsers, or Opera, or even dolphin. So I kind of read someone saying I can set one or some apps to not EVER close unless I do it manually MYSELF. I think they said something about editing build.prop, but don't really know how..they said setting it to 0 or something, don't really know how..Auto memory manager doesn't seem to be doing it permanently.
Hello everyone, I got the Inc4G on launch day. It's rooted, but still running everything as stock. One of the problems I've been having is that from time to time, some of my app assocations (default apps) will reset -- not ask me what I want as default (like when you install a new app or an update), but it just resets. It's happened with a few, but the most common is the "Web URLS" (which should probably be "Web URLs," now that I look at it) reseting from my choice, Dolphin Browser Mini, to the default Android browser.
Has anyone else seen this and/or have any ideas as to how to fix it?

No one?
I haven't noticed any of my presets change. I put everything to my SD card, and it stays. I don't use Dolphin, so it could be specific to that browser.
I have not seen this, either. However, my ringtones always seem to change after connecting to PC (as storage). Looking forward to root so I can put all of my custom ringtones in the system area.

Thanks guys! It hasn't happened recently, so I'm not sure what caused it. If it does start happening again, I got the idea from a different thread to disable (not uninstall or remove) the stock browser, so maybe then it won't be able to change it back to anything?
Unfortunately you cannot disable the stock browser without root.
I've had my app associations reset once already. It also happened on my old EVO 4G LTE (Sprint).

Yeah, that's not a problem. I got root as soon as it was available, luckily for me.
Ever since Honeycomb, the absolute biggest problem I've had with this tablet is the browser. It doesn't freaking stay open. No matter what browser I use, no matter if I'm running Honeycomb, ICS or Jellybean, the browser always crashes. And it's not a typical FC either; It just closes right back to Launcher.
I've been hearing that it's caused by some null pointer exception in JavaScript; But you mean to tell me between Android 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 4.0 - 4.0.4 and 4.1, 4.1.1, that this issue STILL isn't resolved? Not to mention, it only happens on tablets (Tegra 2 issue? Xoom has the same issue).
For me, it most notably happens when I'm browsing a Twitter page. In the past minute alone, I've had browser crash on my SIX times trying to load a page on Twitter. Let's make that 7 now.
So what the hell really causes this, and why won't it go away? My Sensation and myTouch 4G can browse just fine, and this temporary Galaxy S III works perfectly too, so what's with the tablet?
EDIT: Disabled JavaScript and set plugins to ondemand. Same damn result.
I've used the stock browser, Dolphin, Chrome, and Skyfire and none of them have ever crashed on me. Ever. Sounds like there is either something defective about your device perhaps your internet connection. A factory reset might help, as might going into applications, finding the Google framework and clearing data. Do the same for your browsers as well.
That's funny, I've noticed just the same thing. Browsers work terribly on this tablet.
With me, they only do crash sometimes – a lot more than on my HTC phone, though. But using browsers is a real pain, as they all feel kinda buggy, and I don't think it's their fault, since they all show the same "bugs". They're all kinda laggy. I've updated to ICS today and I was crying in emotion for being able to finally download Chrome, as it's the most stable one I've ever used in my phone, but I was disappointed when I noticed it too felt quite laggy. I'd rather go home and turn my Mac on than to struggle with web browsing on this tablet, honestly. I've tried many browsers –*stock, Dolphin, Boat, that other one with green icon, and also Skyfire or something.
If anyone has a better thing, or a solution, or anything, I bet there are many desperate people that would die to hear it.
(I know I sound more dramatic than I should, but let's face it, web browsing sucks in this device.)
I've never had any problem web browsing on my Tab. None. I'm not rooted, maybe that's why, or maybe it has to do with the sites you visit. Dunno.
On my tab with HC 3.2, the stock browser would also just disappear to the home screen, but not all that often.
I flashed to ICS, and the stock browser got a bit quirky. The address bar would no longer hide when I scrolled down
on a web page. Would stutter as if it was trying to hide but wouldn't.
Installed Dolphin and it worked fine.
I went back to HC 3.2 (had some other issues besides the browser) and so far the stock browser is working fine.

Dolphin does the same thing though, just a lot less frequently. Motorola Xoom users in a thread from a year ago reported this same problem (in a filled up 14 page thread), and several of users report the same exact issue. I'm gonna poll some more Tegra 2 sections and see if they suffer from the same thing but it looks like this is just another issue with this ****ty SoC, like the portrait mode lag.

Come on dude, I'd have to be rooted to be running Jellybean. And as everyone else has shown, it does seem to vary by website. Full pages on twitter ALWAYS crash, (they work once in a blue moon). Other times browser crashes when browser feels like it hasn't crashed in a while. I could get through a day perfectly, then bam, crash.
I'm not a dude.
I've never had a problem with any of the browsers I've tried, I think maybe you have a faulty tablet.
I to have the same problems. The browser would even close and reopen with no webpages there.

Yes Google.ca. The browser just shut down without a force close notice and opens blank. Plus it becomes non responsive, on pages that have a lot of javascript.

That specifically happens the second time. On the first crash, I'd relaunch and it would reload my pages, but 99/100 times it would crash seconds afterward. Upon opening it again, i get one tab with the Google homepage.

Sounds like JavaScript is the culprit, but it still crashed for me even after I disabled JavaScript
I think it's all about memory management, I cant tell about HC 'cause I barely used it, but JB is still very experimental.

I'm biased because I've never had any problems with my browser crashing? Whatever. I also never "went crazy" over anything. All you do is complain and complain. Why not just get an iPad and move on?
I have tried several browsers also, and for me I really only have problems with chrome freezing (not force closing). It seems to be random, but happens more frequently when opening new tabs. However, the stock browser on the same sites seems to work every time. My guess is that it may be due to timeouts on the network connection or possibly memory related. And, it seems to be random... I may go a day without a freeze, then have two back to back freezes. Oh tegra2, why don't you behave?
Hey guys,
It's been almost a week since I flashed the stock ICS and installed Chrome. So far so good, no complaints. I'm really relieved, as I was almost giving up. Give it a try

Chrome is the way to go. The ability to create an account and sync all relevant browser data to your devices via the cloud - why hasn't anyone thought of this before? So obvious and useful.
I also strongly recommend trying out Boat Browser, which is highly underrated. Smoother and smarter layout than Dolphin and the best alternative to Chrome, IMO.

Chrome acts really weird on JB. I'm still running pershoot's 8/4 build but I'll be updating and trying out Chrome again. Last time I tried it I would always get a white page while switching tabs, and scrolling was odd. Browser does a much better job but Chrome has too much nice functionality lol

I doubt it's memory relate, it happens a lot with 1 tab open, and with a full Gig of RAM, browsing should be painless when it comes to memory management, not to mention, but Android's memory management scheme is the most beautiful thing I've seen. Tabs and apps actually know how to stay open, and Android knows what to close. Works a lot better than any tablet I've used, even better than crapple's iPad.
