Launchers that are worth a shot - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I really love the fact that android can be modded so easily...well there are hundreds of launchers in the play store! Any suggestions? This will help anyone who is interested in replacing their launcher
Sent from my Revolutionary Htc One X HD

3 Most well known, should get you started:
1 - Nova Launcher - Very nice, fast and stable. Constant updates and has a Free a Prime Available.
NOVA LINK
2 - Apex Launcher - Again, fast and stable, has a Tablet UI mode which may be of use to some (Free and Paid Available)
APEX LINK
3 - ADW Launcher - Fast, Stable (don't know much about ADW) (Free and Paid Available)
ADW LINK
All 3 of these accept Themes, and Apex/Nova often come with the same themes, so in play Store you'll See: Theme Name Apex/Nova
Sometimes ADW is usable too.
Less popular (perhaps still well known):
1 - Lightning Launcher - Very nice launcher, a little different to the rest with some nice features. (Not used myself)
LIGHTNING LINK
2 - GoLauncher - VERY WELL KNOWN (MOST DOWNLOADED LAUNCHER), Been around for quite some time, however I heard security issues with GoLauncher and other Go Products.
GO LAUNCHER LINK
3 - Holo Launcher - Don't know anything about it just know it exists.
HOLO LINK
Hope this helps.

I think I never experienced lag on my device with those launchers, not noticeable. But Nova Launcher is very good too, I used it before but I remember that there was something missing in there that I wanted, forgot what it was now

Try latest version released yesterday

Miui Launcher... Very smooth and looks very nice +apex better then nova....

Apex and Nova are really almost same :| or is it just me?

I swear by SSlauncher.
I takes some time to set it up but the options are endless and you are really only limited by your own creativity.
I haven't found anything you can't do and it's really really customizable.

Will try it!

Agreed. I think the right one is "Themes and Apps"
I use 'launcher pro'.

I have to give ADW love... Have used all. Go Launcher was my favorite until I got ADW.. Launcher Pro is nice as well, but ADW is all-around better for my needs. I would suggest trying all three with Home Switcher and see which one you like the best.
Adwex all the way. By far the best with the most options

Here is what I've found with launchers
Most graphic effects and home screen customization: Regina Launcher
Lightest most efficient most customizable options : Launcher Pro and/or ADW
Best themed launcher: Launcher7
other good launchers: Sony Xperia Arc Launcher ($1.99), honeycomb launcher (a lot of bugs but very nice otherwise), and SPB Shell 3D Launcher ($14.99, I think).
Hope this helps I have personally tested all of these launcher and currently have all but the SPB launcher installed

And I have tried ALL OF THEM!

I don't know if they've fixed it yet, but I found that Go Launcher was causing my internal sdcard to get wiped at least daily. As soon as I uninstalled it, the wiping stopped.
I moved to LauncherPro and haven't looked back since.
Im a fan of go launcher ex but now I Luke the stock launcher in alien rom

I find all are laggy at least on some occasions, which is slightly disappointing considering the hardware.

I've never had that happen with either Go Launcher or LauncherPro - however, I also don't use much in the way of widgets. If someone uses a lot of them, there may be no way around some occasional lag, no matter what launcher you use.
I'm currently using Go Launcher. It's running more stable than ADW for me.

Apex or Nova launcher?

I am on Eclipse 2.2 but am interested in upgrading to an ICS rom and see that they use different launchers. I have bought launcher pro plus and ADW EX, but am actually still using the "dead" launcher pro because it is still faster than ADW. I am very anal about speed and lag. Hopefully both ICS launchers are fast and I don't have to worry about performance? what are your thoughts on the ICS launchers? Performances and speed is my number one concern, and I am willing to pay. Thank you.

Also +1. Dunno why but always had some weird issues with Nova while Apex is indeed running smooth and have better options for me. I recommand you to go for Apex, wont be disappointed imo.
Apex all the way...its clean, simple and user friendly.
Apex is the best i won't change it ever
Apex all the way
They both have free versions in the play store. Try them both out and use the one to your liking. I am partial to Nova, myself.
try both, they both have free version on the market, for me nova is the choice...
Since I have ICS, I'm using Apex free launcher; It's very smooth and the best I've tried. When you try it, you'll hate other launchers.
Since Apex fixed the FC's a while ago I am very happy with it. All the settings and features available even in the free version are awesome. Swiping down to expand notifications is my favourite.
I like Nova
Nova for me. I started using it for the dock swiping when the Galaxy Nexus first came out. Now it looks like the Pro version of Apex has the same feature. Honestly, they are verging on the exact same feature set. Someone should put together a comparison chart.
I prefer Apex because the free version allows hiding of apps in the app drawer.

Thanks for all the input guys. Anymore thoughts on the speed and performance of both?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA Premium App
I was using Nova, but I switched to Apex as Nova was quite slow on my Desire. Apex is much smoother for me. They have pretty much the same features (I haven't noticed much difference although I haven't looked that far into either) I would give both a try and see which works best for you
Nova hands down, my friend is currently using it and I have to say its one of the best ICS launchers out there.
I'm quite impressed with Nova, but it might be that you need a fast processor to handle it, because it's incredibly smooth and responsive on my Galaxy Note.
I've tested them both, and Nova uses a lot more RAM resouces, so if you have an older phone definately Apex, and i think Apex is better in features too.

HTC Desire X: What launcher are you using?

The title says it all...
I've been using Apex and Go Launcher Ex. Apex (at least on my device) has the better performance than Launcher Ex, but on the other side Launcher Ex has way more customization options. I'm bought Apex and it's perfect, but I still want the customization from Launcher Ex while maintaining apexses perfomance. What launcher do you use? Do you like performance or the better "look"? What themes are you using with the launcher? Share it to the world!
My Apex setup:
Version: Pro v1.4.3 (latest)
Theme (in-use): JellyBean HD by Photox Designs
Other themes (not-in-use): DOT (for launcher ex), JellyBean (for launcher ex), Lustre (apex), Minimal MIUI (apex), Traverse (apex).
Just ordinary Rosie...
Always apex. I don't use go launcher since the bloatware bullsh*t in it exceeded understandable line. And more to that I don't like the drawer etc. Just apex for me (i don't want to tell anyone what to use, just my opinion )

Agreed Rosie looks pretty good, yeah bloatwear with Go made me switch to launcher pro when on gb, but now I use Nova prime
Would consider switching back to apex for its theme compatibalty
stock launcher is the best imho

What's everyone using as a launcher?

Just curious if people prefer stock or a replacement launcher?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Nova.
I used ROM Cleaner to remove the sense launcher.
Ha I was also wondering this. Was just about to ask and saw this thread. I was wanting to make a sleek simple homescreen and someone said I couldn't change icons with stock launcher.
How easy is it to switch back and forth between launchers?
As easy as installing from the play store and running it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
But would it keep all the settings. Like could you set up two different launchers and have them set the way you want. Then just feel like going to a different look one day just because you feel like it lol.
Yes. A launcher is just an app like any other app. Settings get saved.
Nova, have used it since I got my Galaxy S2. Love it easy backup/restore change icons individually, and more!
Just installed Nova Launcher and gotta say its pretty cool. Here's what I created. Just two questions. Can nova launcher make the status bar clear? And I used simple text to change icons on the dock but it has black background behind the words. Can I make that clear somehow.
I use apex launcher and as nova
It's amazing, I had no trouble changing plenty of phones while keeping my layout

ive been a nova user for quite sometime , however ive been using stock on the one.
Guess im the only one who actually likes and uses blinkfeed =]
I'm using Next Launcher with custom apps and live cube wallpaper very cool!

Action Launcher - allows minimalist approach, very fast to select apps. And Blink Feed app from appstore switches back into sense launcher so I can go back and forth.
Apex
This may be the perfect place to post this:
Does anyone know of a launcher (or can creat one) that is JUST the Sense 5 app drawer?
i.e: unlock your phone, and hit the app drawer button: THAT is ALL I want to see.

I've always liked the stock launchers over Nova, Apex, etc. Although I did enjoy them on CM roms on the One X when I had it. Usually I'm not a fan of stock Android. I've always much preferred the manufacturer skins.
I love sense 5 too much to switch

Man, $15 seems kinda steep for that.

Nova vs Apex vs holo launcher hd vs go launcher

Which is better?
Go. Hands down the smoothest. Although battery sucker.

I would say Nova, but the new Beta version.
It's crazy fast (Set the Scroll Speed and Animation speed to "faster then light"),transparent statusbar support (the only launcher that actually made my statusbar transparent ) and has a Kit Kat look. Tons of customization. What more do you need ?
I have 2 launchers for you. First of all is Apex Launcher it's smooth and faster and the second is KitKat Launcher it's great to live KitKat experience.

I can't believe you're discussing this...it's all matter of taste, and that's very individual. After all, all of them are free on GPlay, so try it, only you know what suits you best, and it cost nothing.
waking the dead is my thing!
any way....I have been using go launcher. found on accident. It is really neat and I am just starting to understand it fully. Now Im seeing here that apex may take up less memory?

I had Apex.. Once. Then I downloaded Nova Launcher beta and I´m still using it No regrets about it, pretty smooth and easy launcher.
Just my opinion
You should try adw launcher. It is the only one I found that has a categorized app drawer. Makes things soo much more organized. And you can just put folder-like category shortcuts on your homescreen for easy access.
Beautyful transition-effects, great dock customisations... Gove it a try, if you are looking for a new favorite launcher.

Is there a launcher that allows alphabetical listing in the app drawer like in the samsung touchwiz?
I just installed holo laucher as the first since I bought my GN3 last year. it looks smooth and very customizable as I can finally change the grid's density from 4x4 to more icons in the home screen but I miss that one column list like app drawer from touchwiz
ADW .
ADW launcher EX pro is the best launcher i found for me
it is really awesome , just try it
fast , easy , have a lot of customizations

I installed Nova and I must say I'm pretty impressed so far. I can configure the apps drawer in an alphabetical list style and much more.
One thing I find a little disappointing but that seems to be the same problem for all launchers is that the non resizable widgets are screwed up if I add them to the home screen when the grid size is changed to 5x5 or more
