[Q] searching an app to backup applications - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I am searching an application that allows me to backup the .apk files of both user and system applications like AppWererabbit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2196069&page=4). The problem is that i need this app to be compatible with android versions below 4.0, i.e. android 2.3.X.
I have already installed titanium backup on my phone, but i miss the ability to set an automatic .apk backup when each system/user app is updated. I think that to keep .apk files of older versions of the same app could be usefull. Anyone has some suggestion, please?

Have you tried using helium?

I have searched for this app in the google play store, but it says the app is only compatible with android 4.0 and above. So, it doesn't work for me.

Thanks for your reply but, as i have already mentioned in the first post of the thread, i have already have TB. Since TB is "THE" backup application, i have searched through the settings but i did not find the ability to set an automatic app backup when app is updated. If you are saying that such an option is available in TB, please tell me how to find it. Thanks.

I personally use ES File Explorer to backup my apps. Theres an option to backup app data too but thats only for rooted phones. But I'm not sure if it'll work on Android versions below 4.0

As file manager i do usually use ES, but i didn't know it had such a function. You can schedule app backups with ES?

I don't think you can do that.

That is the problem. I searched through the option of ES File Manager but i did not find such a feature. The ability to schedule the app backup (as well as the ability to set an auto-backup when updating) is essential to me.

Moved to Q&A as not development.
You can't really do this, as you need to install the app via the market. It's a form of piracy protection.

Actually, he can do it, by using the latest version of Titanium Backup and option is working fine, tried it myself.
Titanium Backup will attach apps to market as long as apk wasn't modified. It also works for paid apps, but in that case purchase won't be authorised when you wish to update and Market will present the Buy Now dialog.

But that didn't work for me... I don't know why but it is a free app....
It isn't really meant to work, so I can't really help. Either way, paid apps won't work with this method.
I'll try it with a free app myself, though I don't quite think it will work... not sure why, just a feeling
I have noticed that when I restore a nand backup that all my apps come back and the market recognises them.

How to Uninstall System Apps?

Hi there! I have a rooted phone with original kernel KE8. I wanted to replace my Google Maps app (which is a system app) with a newer version of the same app. The version which came pre-installed on the SGSII was 5.2, but my friend has given me a newer version 5.6. But the problem is that the new version is not getting installed because the older version will not get removed by the uninstaller. Does anyone know how to do this?
Titanium Backup I guess.

I have Titanium Backup latest version. So how to uninstall my existing Google Maps using that app? Can you please explain in detail as I don't see any "uninstall" option in Titanium backup.

Go to the "Backup/Restore" tab. Tap the app to bring up various action buttons, one of which is uninstall. Be careful....

Did exactly what you told. Google Maps is removed but so are 3 other applications along with it.....Navigation, Places & Latitude! And the new file which I had of Google Maps v5.6 version is also NOT installing. So now what to do? How do I get them back? I did not create any backup of them before uninstalling the existing Google Maps.

install Google Maps from market... after install u'll get back Latitude/Places/Navigation...
@prosumerhacks : Thanks, that's exactly what I'm doing right now. But was just wondering why wouldn't the phone install a Google Maps file which is already downloaded and transferred to my phone from my laptop?

It does, under the tab "Constricter" find Maps and uninstall. It works here!
Thanks everyone for helping. I re-installed the latest version of Google Maps from the Market again. Navigation, Places & Latitude are a part of Google Maps only and were also installed.
There is also an app called 'Root Uninstaller' free in Android market which allows to uninstall and even freeze system/sd card apps which TB doesn't allow in the free version.
Regards.

missing market apps on nook tablet

I rooted my nook tablet with the SnowballMod root and everything is working fine, but some of the apps in the android market are missing. I have tried editing the build.prop file and clearing the market data and cache to spoof the market, but it still wont work. does anybody have ANY ideas?
theres not some, more like a lot and thats normal cuz its happening to everyone. apps that dont appear on the market have to be downloaded as .apk files and then transferred to your nooks sd card i use drop box and es file explorer for this procedure
how would i do this? how close are the people to fixing this and being able to install custom roms? i need facebook.
sideloading if it is not working from market.

Copy the .apk to the device and select it in a file explorer program.

It's not technically broken. The market should not show you apps for which your device does not meet the requirements. That doesn't meet they don't work, but that you have to install them another way. After updating my phone to ICS, I had to sideload Tapatalk, since it is not "technically" compatible with ICS, even though it does work.

1) Use the web app (it's pretty good, and doesn't have any background processes)
2) Look for the thread in the App section titled "[download] Facebook, Twitter and Google+ apk"

*Removed Android Market Apps*

Does anyone have a link to find the Apps that have been Removed from the Android Market?
I'm just curious cause a bunch of apps that I've been using, seem to all of a sudden not show up when I search for them in the Market!
Thanxx in Advance...
I was once trying to find a particular game's backup program that I had used to make a backup (and now I wanted to restore) ... I went through hundreds of google results to no avail - I don't think there is a general solution to this. Perhaps there are legal ramifications? All of the third-party app trackers that I found didn't have removed apps, or did and just linked to google's (not working) download location. I think the key is to always use something like Titanium Backup! That way you can always get your apps back.

yes you can, but it's not recommended if you use base ROM.

[Q] Deleted App with Titanium

My Buddy wanted me to debloat his T-Mobile S5 so I went ahead and did the usual but I accidentally uninstalled an antivirus app that had administrative rights and now there is a ghost app in his drawer. I did not bother creating a backup as I had no intentions of reinstalling it. I know I can hide the app using xposed framework but wanted to delete it entirely.
Thanks.
have u tried to reinstall the app?

Always make a backup. Taking shortcuts like that put your friend's data at unnecessary risk and caused your current problem.
You didn't give is any details of whether Titanium is able to cleanup the mess? If not, then try fixing it by reinstalling the antivirus so that it is then stable enough to uninstall in the conventional manner.

The play store recognizes the app as still installed and only gives me the option to deactivate the app. When I do that it force closes.

Agreed on the shortcuts.
I was not aware that titanium may be able to clean it up. I'll research it. As far as the app goes, I responded to that above.
Thanks to the both of you

If the phone is rooted or if you temporarily root it, you can delete the antivirus app with a file explorer (or from the commamd line).

You should find the antivirus app in one of these directories:
/data/app/name.apk
/system/app/name.apk
/system/priv-app/name.apk
.
