Hello,
i'm experiencing low volume with distorted sound coming out of the rear loud speaker on my DNA. It sounds like its blown. BUT it only happen when the phone is charging and laying on its back. once you lift it up, or flip it over, everything is fine. i'm running newts latest with palmers latest. reboots dont help. had some EQS mods, did a dirty flash of newts, still didnt help. any ideas?
Well if it's on it's back then the speaker is covered, and the sound isn't able to get out.

That sounds similar to my first phone, just before the speaker completely blew. There is another thread that is titled "Ahhhh speaker blew!" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2248471).

I had the Epic Touch 4G for about a week until I had to return it (Sprint really sucks in my area). Anyways, as with most Sprint phones, the earpiece volume is pretty damn loud. Since getting my SII on AT&T, I notice a huge difference, and I was wondering if there were any hacks to make it louder. My phone is rooted, and I'm not opposed to getting a custom ROM if need be.
Thanks

Oh this is the perfect thread to find out something that is been bothering me.
IF you still on the ATT stock rom. what kind of head phones are you using? 16ohm, 24ohm, 32ohm, 64+ohm?
Because in the CM7.1 forum, we are having some issues where the 16ohms headphones are playing SUPER loud.
SO... if you happened to have some cheapy 16ohm headphones and you are not getting super loud volume please let us know in the CM7.1 nightly forum?
Thanks
PS: *I* believe that the stock rom has auto-impedance, but CM7.1 doesn't which causes 16ohm headphones to play super loud while 32-64ohms headphones play @ "normal" volume. But this is just a theory...

Are you actually able to get it to work got the GS II? I downloaded it but it never asks for root and doesn't make anything louder, no matter what settings I use.
Sent from my Galaxy S II using the XDA app!
I tried Volume+, but I don't think its what I was looking for. I am not having a volume issue with the main speaker, but rather the earpiece speaker you use during a regular call. I was able to get a louder audio playback via the normal speaker (listening to music) but saw no improvement during a call.

I'd love to have a viable solution to increase headset volume as well. I'm using a wired headset if it matters and I'm on gtg's UnNamed Rom. I tried volume+ and noticed it said it doesn't work on stock roms and I know we're running a slightly modified version of it so...
But yeah, didn't notice any volume difference in headset or speaker.
Its a known issue with Samsung phones,Galaxy s1 phones had the same problem!
What I don't understand is how the Sprint version of the phone was so drastically louder than the AT&T version. Its like the hardware is capable, but they are holding it back.

I'm sure the devs here will come up with something like voodoo for infuse.

Just wanted to bump this to see if anyone has come up with a fix. The in-call volume is still sooo low on my phone!

I have stock rom with root. Idk if its just my phone or what - I'll have to test my friends phone now, lol. And yes, I do need the volume quite high as I am rarely in quiet environments
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
My volume is also low on my phone. Headphone volume is loud. I believe the perception Rom has loud call volume.
For my first few calls, the volume seemed to be too low. Then I noticed that if I hold the phone lower, it is much louder. I guess the earpiece is so high up on the phone that holding the phone in a natural position doesn't put the earpiece in the right place in my ear.
volume boost gets my vote.
I've been searching for a volume hack for two weeks. Im rooted and on unNamed ROM. The volume has been much lower than id like on both stock and custom Rom . I've tried volume+ but doesn't do the trick.
Can someone PLEASE provide a solution for this. ie. modify file in root explorer, or some other hack.
there is audio boost sgs2... but it will probably drain battery as it polls on the volume to constantly make it "louder". its a cheat hack.
I also think the incall volume is really low as well, would love if one of you devs could come up with something.. Donate donate donate!
Anyone notice speaker crackling when playing music or ringtones when running eternity rom? Have tried 2 different kernels bcblend and anthrax kernel and seems to be the same!

Sounds like a blown speaker. The only time I hear speaker crackle is when I'm on a phone call.

And if you have TEP then sprint will replace it for free.
I have best buys insurance, i was hoping maybe it was releated to the eternity tom that has infected beats
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I tried the stock kernel, still same thing, i didnt try switching roms but i heard that there is an issue how beats is tied into our roms and thats whata causing the crackling can anyone confirm?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
If you are talking about playing music through the headphone jack, I can kinda confirm that the crackling disappears when not using a beats rom. I used Eternity and experienced the crackling. Switched to Olympus beatless and the crackling disappeared.
If you are talking with the external speaker, sounds like that is blown and will need to be replaced.
Its the external speaker.... Damnit here we go
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Actually I was having that problem but noticed it only when the screen turned off. I switched Roms since but check to see of that's the case. Turn the screen on with no time out and see if it doesn't crackle. If so, its the ROM. If not, still could be. Haha
Sent from my beasted EVO 3D using xda premium
Have you tried with anything that doesnt require beats? maybe youtube or a movie? If no crackle there, then its the rom.
This weekend i believe im gonna nandroid and install a stock rom and see what happens, i hope its not the speaker, if it is guess ill see if best buy will fix it

^^^ So all your audio is very low, just not your call volume? Media volume is pretty low on the 3d, but my phone volume was VERY low after flashing ICE. After doing the in_call.zip fix, my media volume is still low, but my phone volume is back to what it was under 2.3*.
Maybe a thread title change?

No my speaker is fine....went back to drops gt rom and the audio is fine its just when I'm on a call I can't hear ish lol its so low that I have to turn my speaker on to even hear them!! My speaker has be good without an issue (knock on wood) but ever since I flashed an ics rom like few days later all of a sudden I can't hear ppl on the other end really

FWIW, I'm using Newts RC3. If you haven't given his ROM a shot, might be worth a try. It could still be a bit louder, but it went from unusable to workable.

change rom
I would try a different rom, mean rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466362
is an awsome rom and use chads kernal qualcom 1a will allow you to use beats which can help get youur media volume higher and cleaner. But watch your speaker like always if you think its pushing to hard it probly is.
Is there a setting in your rom to boost the volume? My old desire had that.
weird. i have leedroid on mine and it's perfect.
my mate got an evo 3d, i s-off'ed it etc and restored my nandroid and deleted what he didn't want etc....and his is nearly silent. Brand new phone so i doubt it's a blown speaker. Very odd.
Has anyone else had their external speaker just stop working? The curious part about it is if I press on the screen by the speaker, it will come back on until I let go.
I'm bummed because if I get a replacement I'll probably be locked down. Everything else works fine, and I was really enjoying Viper.
Also, has anyone else sent a re-locked phone in? I'm curious if they accept it if it's been messed with.

Yes. There are two other similar threads about the speaker. I have posted it both about my speaker no longer working. If I squeezed the sides it would work, eventually it stopped all together.

I had a similar problem with my HTC EVO 3D GSM, however it was also with Viper ROM but when calling, the person I called complained that the mic had a hollow and crackly sound to it...
Getting back to the problem:
My suggestions, if you are rooted, flash a stable RELIABLE rom with no extra tweaks, etc. and see if it gives any problems, if the crackling remains, you know what the problem is, replace speaker
If it goes away, reflash the rom but have a look for twaeks, etc. but in my opinion, the best is Android Revolution 4.0 rom, it works the best, and is most stable, the AOPK is quite buggy, and slow @ times but I always liked the DeSenced roms with AOPK
Hope this helps!!!
Thanks I reflashed back to stock, but the problem is still there, so for sure I know its the speaker, thanks for the reply
