Help with custom roms! - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hello All,
I am sorry if this isn't in the right spot, but I used the goomanager to install a new custom rom and it went very bad. I can't access the OS at all and I did a wipe of the system and cache directories. I tried installing CM10.0, but it just stays on the loading screen forever. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris C.
P.S. I relocked my bootloader because I am going to try and start from the beginning.

Did you make a recovery, s-on or off? As long as you have twrp installed you can hook your phone up to your computer and download a rom to your sd card and flash it.. Verify of you are off or on and then follow the instructions, I suggest viper rom... They are off and on capable.

Sounds like you are S-On, if so just go to the Play Store and get a app called Flashimage GUI by JoeyKrim it will make life alot better if you don't plan on getting S-Off..

Thanks for the response, I AM S-ON. I will try the viperROM and see if that installs properly. I am NOT hard-bricked. I can instal roms but none want to load.

Also, every time I try to install a ROM, I get a whole bunch of E: Unable to mount '/sdcard' does that have anything to do with it?

MeanBean & ViperROM both have S-on kernel installers to simplify flashing while S-on. Also, take a look at the link in my sig. It has info regarding kernel flashing while S-on

What S-on kernel are you referring to?
If you're fastboot flashing the kernel, flash the ROM then the kernel.

I believe the kernel is called WILDKERNEL. It was on the download page next to the viperROM. I am using TWRP to flash my ROMS. I also can't mount my Internal SD card, any ideas?

Thanks for all your help. FYI, the mount issue was caused by a corrupt Internal SD memory. All I had to do was just reformat the internal memory using my current recovery tool, TWRP 2.5. After, this I followed the unlimited.io websites instructions on how to S-OFF the EVO LTE. During this process, the RUU was reflashed onto the phone and the OS is working properly and not to mention, I have S-OFF now. :good:
Thanks again,
Chris C.

Flashing ROMs

Hey guys, so I just used Juopunutbear S-OFF to start installing some custom ROMs. Quick question, is there any special way I have to start flashing ROMs? I was trying to install [SENSELESS]_d3rpICS_[BAREBACK] so I downloaded the ROM and placed it on my SD card. Once I powered my phone back on and try to install the new ROM is says that my SD card is not inserted into the SD slot (which it is, I can even see files on it).
Also, now I can't even power my phone back up and fully boot up, it is stuck at the hTC screen. Any suggestions?
Can you boot into hboot? What recovery are you using?

If you did a back up before flashing the Rom, restore it and then get 4ext recovery. It's the one that works best. Once you have 4ext, do a super wipe and then flash it again.

I'll give it a shot. Although I didn't create a back up before I began this process. I think when I was using Juopunutbear to callS-OFF it created a backup then. Is a back up mandatory?

A back up is useful when this happens. Just try and use twrp for now but wipe everything (data, cache, dalvik cache, etc) before flashing again.

There is also an updated version of twrp (version 2.2.0) that might work better. You can find it on their site and push it to your phone using fastboot. Google them and then follow the directions on their website.

Need help to get root

I got my Evo 3d off Craigslist this morning and i love it. Traded my Evo 4g plus cash for it and i couldnt be happier. I was very successful in rooting the 4g amd never had any problems that i can think of and im hoping the same goes for the 3d.
Anyways ive been reading and reading on how to root it, get s-off so i can install a recovery and them flash a rom and kernel. Ive managed to confuse myself because it seems that if you root it one way, you may not be able tp fash custom kernels and if you use another method to root it, your more than like to have all sorts of problems.
Basicall i need help and if someone could post a link to show me best method on how to root, s-off, install custom recovery, and install a rom on the 3d it would be greatly appreciated.
I have Sprint (cdma) Android 2.3.4. Software # 2.08.651.2 hboot 1.5, baseband 0.97.10.0808

I ended up goin a different route by using the HTC unlcock bootloader and that was suscessful. I still have s on and I think I'm gonna keep it that way for now but I need to install a custom recovery.
I've tried setting up sdk all morning and can't get the cmd to recognize adbas an interal or external command. Not sure what exactly it is that in doing wrong.
I wanting to know if there'sa way to install my first custom recovery thru the bootloader in my phone without using my computer so I can flash the su.zip and get this thing rooted. Thanks

The twrp recovery has a method to flash that recovery without a computer by downloading it as a zip and naming it properly. See their site for detail.
I still recommend s-off since it is easier to flash Roms and the ics Roms tend to bootloop with s-on.

It looks like you renamed it to the wrong thing. If you downloaded TWRP 2.2.0 zip, it must be renamed PG86IMG.zip on the root of the sd card. Then when you update in bootloader, it should work.

Hmmm... Does your phone boot? If so, you could download 4ext (see my signature) and install their app. Then it will push the custom recovery for you. I use 4ext myself anyway.

[Q] Evo Rooting Help

So, I have my evo currently running Android 4.1.1 with Software version 3.15.651.16 710RD
I tried using the methods given on unlimited.io. I even used a livecd for Ubuntu (but couldn't do anything in terminal). However, using everything in windows worked, minus the rabiesshot.exe file.
I somehow managed to unlock my bootloader and flash TWRP, but can't do anything else, ie; Roms will flash but never boot.
Is there maybe something I overlooked?
I'm not new to android, just HTC devices.
Take a look at the link below. I think it will shed some light on your issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256478
Most likely your issue is caused by the fact that you're S-on. On Hboot's 1.15 & newer you have to flash the kernel separately from the ROM, otherwise it won't boot. Many Sense ROM's include a S-on kernel installer to facilitate ROM flashing. Once you've obtained S-off, this isn't an issue.
Also, instead of Dirty Racun, give Facepalm a try-it's Windows friendly.

I tried using Facepalm, but I don't have superCID so I can't go through the rest of the process, I tried using the moonshine application as well but that didn't work either.
I feel like I've either completely overlooked something, or just giving it all way too much thought
Moonshine won't work unless you're on Hboot 2.09/baseband 1.12.11.1210. You have to use Facepalm or Dirty Racun otherwise. I personally have never used Facepalm, but I hear it's quick and easy. Perhaps head over to the Facepalm thread for more help. I think they also have IRC, too.

Looking at Facepalm, you must be rooted and have superCID.
I've actually been unable to even obtain root.
There is however a new system update. Should I try updating that and then running moonshine?

If you're bone-stock, sure, why not? Keep in mind your bootloader has to be unlocked, which may be the reason you're having issues with Facepalm to begin with. You cannot root if you can't unlock your bootloader.

My bootloader is unlocked. Which is why I'm confused as to how all 3 methods (facepalm, dirtyracun, and moonshine) don't work.

Remember the link from above that I shared? The issue is that you're S-on and you have to install the kernel separately from the ROM. Most Sense ROM's have an S-on kernel installer to facilitate ROM flashing. Try a ROM like MeanBean-just read the installation instructions so you don't have any issues getting it installed (you basically flash it twice instead of once. The first flash installs the ROM itself, and the second flash installs the kernel). Obviously once you're S-off this won't be an issue.
Also, you might hit up Bigdaddy619. I know that he recently helped somebody get S-off using Facepalm and I'm sure he can help you, too

Edit: I'm going to install the adb and fastboot onto my laptop and try those in a little while. See if it produces the same result.

[Q] Semi Bricked HTC Evo 4G LTE, Please help

Hello All,
I rooted my phone a long time ago and went from the stock rooted rom to MeanRom ICS. I then wanted to try other roms. I use TWRP 2.6 and tried everything to install a new rom. A friend suggested that I S-off my phone to see if that would work. I then tried Moonshine to S-off my phone. Now the phone wont boot at all. I can still get in the recovery and bootloader, but that's all I can do.
Here is my info for Bootloader:
Jewel PVT Ship S-on RL
HBOOT 1.19.0000
Radio 1.12.11.0809
OpenDSP v.29.1.0.45.0622
eMMC boot
Thanks in advanced for the help
First things first, welcome to XDA, and congrats on your first post/thread. Too bad that this is the reason for it.
On to more pressing matters...are you sure that you completed ALL of the steps in order? Also, did you happen to read this thread?

Do you have a backup you can restore from recovery? If so, install your backup to get you up and running again. Otherwise, you can mount USB storage in recovery and copy a ROM from your computer to your phone, then flash the ROM. Remember since you're S-on you'll need to install the kernel separately from the ROM. Most Sense ROM's like MeanBean and Viper have a kernel installer built in; just follow the OP for whatever ROM you wish to install.
Also, you must either use Facepalm or Dirty Racun to gain S-off on your phone. Moonshine only works for those on Hboot 2.09/software version 3.16.
You can find links to Dirty Racun & Facepalm in the link in my sig.

All that green text means is that the bootloader is looking for a PJ75IMG file on your external SD card. There isn't one normally there unless you're updating firmware. It's normal.

I load the backup, but the screen goes black after the initial HTC boot screen. I don't know what's going on.
I've tried CM 10.1 Nightly, Ubuntu touch WIP, and a few others. Everything seems to do just fine while installing, and then I reboot to a boot loop or staring at the HTC boot screen for a while.
When I rooted my phone, I went from CM 9 to MeanRom. After I went to MeanRom it acted kind of funky. I've not been successful at loading any new roms after that. I think I forced something that the phone didn't like onto it and now its stuck with it.
Try flashing MeanBean. Make sure you wipe properly before you flash it.

Should I go for the newest one? (3.09 or and older version)
The latest version should be just fine. The rom version doesn't change much aside from the fact that 3.09 has the latest changes and bug fixes.

In addition, make sure you follow Mikey's instructions on flashing the ROM since you're S-on for the time being. His ROM has a kernel installer that requires an extra step to install the kernel separately from the ROM on phones that are S-on.

Ubuntu is packaged in a live distro, you don't have to install anything.

Use Facepalm. It's Windows friendly. I think Bigdaddy619 or another user even has everything packaged up nice & neat so it's ready to run. I've personally never used it but I hear it's quick & painless. Make sure you Nandroid your current setup before you get started.

Well gang, I look everywhere for all the tools that I need to do a FacePalm S-Off. I cant find SuperCid. I looked all over for the scrypt and I cant find it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

SuperCID for HTC Evo 4G LTE:
Code:
adb shell
su
echo -ne "22222222" | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=1 seek=20
After you do this start the other commands
Just take your time do one at a time and read what it says in the cmd window
Sorry to bother you guys again, but it says device not found when I enter adb reboot bootloader. Am I doing something wrong? I do beleive I have all the drivers. Sorry for being a pain, still learning about this stuff.

Did you try formating all partitions except sd card? Also wipe everything twice, just to be on the safe side

I don't have gsm.
Maybe you need hboot 1.5* that was on your other phone.
Smartflash is for s on
I would recommend using 4ext though
I would suggest changing your hboot
Reboot to recovery
Wipe all partitions except sd
Reboot recovery
Wipe all partitions again
Flash Rom
Reboot
If it still boot loops,
Then fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
Good luck

I managed to make my phone ok again, using a ruu. I think this is the best chance, relock if you are s-on unlocked, flash the ruu via fastboot, and the just use the htc unlock method to gain unlock bootloader and root... It was a log operation...it takes a lot of time ..but well, it worth it. My phone is now ok. You could give this a try. Search the forum on how to revert back to stock rom using a ruu.

There is no need to relock, and get s on.
You can run ruu through bootloader as a pg86img.zip, and retain s off.
That will give you all stock, but s off
However you need to get the Rom.zip from ruu and rename it first

so i updated the hboot to 1.5 and tried to flash the custom rom :c didnt work :/ still on bootloop and i tried to flash the boot.img and still nothing :/
Have you tried other roms?
Or restoring a backup?
Maybe you should go ahead and run the ruu.
I do not have gsm, but I'm sure its the same process of flashing.

Alright then, RUU, re-unlock (& s-off), and flash a custom ROM.
if you can't fix your problem, the RUU will, and allow you to start fresh. S-off is the best way to go.
