You need to verify GPS is working before you backup your EFS, if it is, this can't not work.

Sorry to burst your bubble but GPS works fine on any 4.1.2 ROM including stock which was where I ran the zip tool. However on any recent 4.2.2 ROM it is broken and when I flash the efs backup I created from the working gps stock ROM. I still have no GPS in the 4.2.2 ROM.

Then you're doing something wrong. When you go back to make the backup, confirm GPS is working and locking first. I have tried this fix on every ROM with several different OGs and it works everytime since you're flashing a working EFS backup.

I am not stupid nor am I doing anything wrong. The ROM I backed the efs up from certainly locks as I verified it with GPS status before booting into recovery to run the backup zip. I am an old hand with Linux and android so your assumption that the reason this is not working is me doing something wrong is laughable.
Like many things related to hardware and software things don't always work on all devises even though they should be the same.

Did you guys OTA or LGNPST to official JB before flashing it, and have you also flashed the JB modem? Did you backup the EFS using the flashable zip and make sure to flash the same backup after the rom has already booted once or twice?

I'm running Vanilla Rootbox ROM on mine; I flashed the Optimus Pro radio, GPS works great.

Question for the people that can't get this fix to work. Which recovery are you using? I would suggest trying it with cwm if you haven't already.

Where'd you grab that radio? Better yet I guess I should most over to the Pro forum and look, lol.
Edit: Never mind, grabbed it. Thanks,

The fix doesn't work for me either.
Currently using Slick with verified GPS lock.
Steps taken using CWM - Nandroid backup of Slick -> EFS backup ZIP created -> Full wipe -> Install/restore Liquid Smooth (or any other 4.2.2 ROM) -> reboot and setup -> go back to CWM and restore EFS. ... no joy!
On my device, GPS only seems to be working on Slick. Would like to try the OG Pro Radio if someone has the link.

If you're using the ICS modem on a 4.2.2 ROM, GPS won't work either way. I've tested this fix with RootBox and all available modems and it works for all but ICS. While GPS works on the OG Pro modem, it breaks all sound.

This fixed my GPS.

What ended up fixing mine was installing cm10.1 coming from stock jb. Set the phone up. Tested GPS with GPS Status from the play store. No dice gps was borked showed SATs but would not lock. For giggles since I had previously tried the ops fix without success I tried an old inspire 4g fix and flashed the stock jb modem again from recovery. And walla it works gps locks in seconds.
Now it should have been running the stock jb modem already as I was on the stock ROM and hadn't fooled with the modem. However something to do with flashing 4.2.2 Roms must Bork the GPS portion of the modem. Reflashing the modem must correct said FUBAR.
Anyway it worked for me which means it may or may not work for anyone else... But it is something to try (;

Yeah, if you flash a 4.2.2 rom from stock, depending on the phone, it messes up GPS. The fix from the inspire is probably just a gps.conf file

couple of questions and an issue....
when installing the deodexed stock say writing 1.3 kernel,is it the 1.3 kernel or stock? just the roko install script?
the file size is so small was wondering if it has webtop? or if since i installed lokis webtop it will have webtop once i install it?
the issue im having is no data service tried several of the usual methods to get it working but cant seem to get it to grab a signal. the weird thing is in seetings menu says i am connected to sprint but i have no 3g icon and no web page or data service loads.. idk if is just on my end or what but wanted to bring it to light in hopes maybe you knew a way to get it working..... btw
thanks for this once i can get it fully working will use it as a base for my roms from now on was looking for a completely stock deodexed rom for my base hoping i found it... i know there is a thread with the system and framework from stock deodexed but couldnt get it to boot so... as for me happy to see this up

WiFi broken and can't read SIM after flashing virtuous rom?

To add into relations to my other post the reason I had to restir is cause the Virtuous Rom booted and WiFi woild not toggle on and keeps saying insert SIM.
??
I was only trying to install a good stable gsm Rom that would initially work well with apn settings seeing as I use the droid DNA UNLOCKED on T-Mobile.
I can't figure a way to keep the apn settings set after a reboot they default
So I read flashing a global gsm Rom will auto save the apns and theyll stick.
Any insight? Any good Roms that will do this for T-Mobile
And any reason or known reason on the re insert SIM issue after flashing a Rom
this is a noted problem from what I've read ,but with no Straight forward reason or solution.

Well the Wifi not working is cuz you didn't flash the kernel properly.
And for the sim error, that's just a problem with the dna. Re seat it and it should be fine.

When you unzip the file there should be a boot.img file you will need to flash in fastboot. the command is fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then once you do that, boot into recovery and reflash the rom. Wifi should work.
According to both Verizon and HTC, there was a known issue with the phone software and not being able to read the SIM card. It happened to mine about ten times every week until an update was released to supposedly fix it in February. I still get the error from time to time, but far less than I did previously. If you've rooted and flashed a ROM prior to February, I would suggest making a backup and restoring the phone back to stock. Once you've done this, do the update to the new firmware and then reroot and restore from your backup. This should, I think, fix most SIM issues.

[Q] How to upgrade to custom 4.x.x roms?

Hey Guys,
I have a Bell Galaxy note I7I7M with T-Mobile Modem Using on Mobilicity Network In Canada. At present, I am using Padawan V8 4.0.4 rom. Works perfectly fine but would like to try some other Custom Jelly Bean Roms. My previous attempts to flash went in vain with issues such as not able to pick up signal (on SlimBean) and not able to Call and recieve phone calls even with signals ( on Jedi Rom). I guess, probably will be a radio issue. Some one please guide me how to Flash and update to custom Jelly bean Roms.
Thanks a lot.

Right here

I'm on 4.2.2 and had to change kernel in order to have call audio. Flappjaxxx kernel is another one you could try, but it didn't work well for me.
I'm using Feb 29 build of the kernel which in the forum for my current ROM had the most feedback.
Basically just download the kernel, put it on root of sd card and boot into recovery. Wipe cache and then install zip from sd and choose kernel. When done reboot. Always make a backup just in case
This boot will take longer than usual. Don't worry. When booted, it will say something like "upgrading android" or something
After that, enjoy.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong at any point! I am fairly certain that ^ those steps are correct, but just in case
And lastly, I hope this doesn't become a "best kernel thread" try a few out if you aren't sure and see which one works best for you. I just recommend 4aces because it worked for me

Flash kernel after ROM. Most ROMs come with a kernel in the zip, so it would overwrite any that you install. I got status 7 and decided to try a different ROM because I was too lazy to update recovery

Ok. I have a problem here. phone reboots when i touch turn on usb connection, any idea? want to flash chris kernel
That is very common for JB ROMs actually. Had that on my old phone as well... Trying to remember what I did Try a different kernel and see if that works any. I don't think it happens to me anymore but it did before.
I'm gonna spend some time searching and see what that yields. I know you can boot into recovery and enable USB transfer that way. It's supposed to be faster because it bypasses a few firmware components. But either way, that is a nuisance.
Okay, try going Settings->Storage->(Menu soft key)->USB options
From here you should be able to enable mass storage, or if that reboots on you like before, try ticking MTP. Maybe try checking developer options and see if USB debugging is enabled or not. Unfortunately I don't know which to have ticked and which ones not
Anyone? Cuz right now all of mine are unchecked (and that doesn't sound right)

Must be some kind of bug,if you can't get any help from the CM forum try flashing an other nightly or even consider upgrading or changing ROM's like for example if you wanna keep the AOSP feeling try SlimBean or anything else you find interesting.
Edit: I checked through the CM thread and couldn't find anyone mentioning this kind of problem maybe its some issue like the basic ones, like the occasional modem problems which you can solve by flashing an other modem, or have you at least done a cache/dalvik wipe if you performed a dirty flash while upgrading nightlies or something?

Yes I tried the app getRIL, and tried to install a new modem. Do you have any other idea?

Try a nuke script and then try flashing roms or flash stock via Odin and perform a factory reset and see if the problem persists.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
What is a nuke script?
EDIT:
i understood what is a nuke script, and i have flashed the stock rom via odin. Than i have flashed CyanogenMod 10.1.3, but this time, instead of doing a factory reset, i did the nuke script, and than i have flashed the CyanogenMod 10.1.3 and than the Gapps.
The nuke script, didn't solve the problem...
Do you have any other idea, cause i'm completely hopeless...
Try generating a log file immediately after trying to make a call and if you can't understand it try posting it here , also did you try to make a call from the stock version and did the problem persist?

Read up on what a log file is and how to make it and understand it, also if the problem is happening only with CM try other AOSP builds like Revolt, SlimBean or any other CM based roms or Chameleon if you prefer a hybrid between AOSP and Stock.

I have tried to flash all of the aosp based ROMs like supernexus, aokp, paranoid android, revolt, and in all of them there was the same problem. Can you explain to me what is a log file and how to make it, cause I didn't understood what is it.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I don't know if this helps but Samsung devices like ours have problem in EFS file while flashing cm based ROMs. try backing up the EFS using app called ktool from play store while in stock ROM and restore it after flashing new ROM.
I have backed up my EFS using ktool, and it is saying that it is really dangerous to restore it, and only use it as a last resort... So should i do this or not? please answer quickly cause i need to know!
Do not restore efs if you don't have any issues with your imei. Log file is a file which lists all the activities that take place when you do a particular thing, use the app called logcat to record and save a log file, do it immediately after you tried to make a call.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Sorrt mate. I haven't had this problem from flashing different roms. Keep the EFS backup safely and try it once. I too have a backup just in case my EFS is lost.
I've already restored the backed up EFS... Is that bad?
and also i run the logcat after trying to make a phone call, and i didn't understood a **** of what was written there... Do you know what should i look for in the logcat?
Post your log file here and let one of us check it out, if possible I myself will try checking it to see whats happening and remember we need a log file made immediately after you tried making a call and after the problem happened.

get titanium backup and freeze/backup+uninstall SDM that will keep updates from happening. (only for stock rom, once you install a rom it won't be a problem all roms have SDM disabled by default)
you can now flash any touchwiz rom however unless your cwm is loki'd you can't flash aosp roms (such as cyanogen mod, MIUI, aokp...)
so basically if you are not lokied you can flash only roms on the android development board if you ARE lokied you can flash those AND the ones in the ORIGINAL android development board.

get titanium backup and freeze/backup+uninstall SDM that will keep updates from happening.

Sweet time to look up loki, but first freeze that app... I hate being a flashoholic sometimes
