[Q] MHL in portrait mode - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a galaxy nexus, and just bought the mhl hdmi adaptor, i've managed to lock the phone on is portrait mode but this rotated the image filling the whole screen. Basically requiring me to turn my head to see properly. Is there any way to rotate the image vertically and have black pillars on the side?
I need this for a presentation of a portrait application.

Horizontal video output?

Right now, when you connect the Galaxy S III to a TV, it'll display the video in whatever orientation the S3 is currently in. For example, when you hold the phone vertically, it shows up as portrait on the TV (with black spaces on either side), and when the phone is held horizontally, the TV displays landscape video.
Since I have a screen that can rotate, I want to make it so that the video that the Galaxy S III displays will always fill the screen. As in, when the S3 is held vertically, the video it displays fills the whole screen without the black spaces (if you were watching it on a TV, it would appear sideways).
Is this possible? I know that on the iPhone there's an app on Cydia called Landscape TV Out, which always outputs the video in landscape (thus filling the screen). That's what I'm looking for.
If an app is possible but it doesn't exist, I'm willing to pay for one to be made.
To clarify, I've attached two pictures that show what the S3 outputs by default and what I need it to look like in portrait.
I've searched through the GT-i9300 and SGH-i747 source code, but I haven't found anything (maybe I'm not looking for the right thing?)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] HDMI output problem with bars on sides in portrait mode.

Currently, when you connect an external monitor to an Android phone that supports mirroring, the phone makes the assumption that the external monitor is set up in a landscape orientation. Thus, when the phone is held vertically (in this case, the Galaxy S III) in a portrait orientation, the video output on the display is portrait, but centered with black bars on either side. Of course, when the phone is held horizontally, the output fills the external display.
What I'm looking for is a way to force the Galaxy S III to mirror its screen such that when it is held in a portrait orientation, the output will fill the external display. It would have to work across Android - I'm not talking about a specific app in particular, it needs to work consistently across all apps.
The external display would be mounted vertically, so it's essential that the output from the Galaxy S III while in portrait orientation completely fills and has the correct orientation on the external display.

[Q] Miracast to fullscreen in portrait

Hi,
I'm trying to screen cast from a Nexus 4 to a large screen TV (using a PTV3000). I want to put the TV in portrait mode and have the screen case occupy the entire screen, however I don't seem to find a way to accomplish this. When the phone's orientation is vertical (portrait) it assumes the TV is in landscape orientation and the phone screen is displayed small in the middle of the TV with black space on the sides.
After doing some searching it seems that this behavior can only be changed with a custom ROM, however I haven't been able to pinpoint where in the AOSP tree this behavior can be changed. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks!

Did you ever get the full screen to work?

Dock in landscape mode

This may sound like a dumb question. But, how do I get the dock to display at the bottom of my landscape screen? Currently, the dock shows up on the right edge of my screen when my phone is in landscape orientation.
If I rotate my phone to portrait mode, the dock moves to the bottom of the screen. However, I hardly ever hold my phone in portrait orientation.
I'm using the latest Nova Prime Beta.
Same problem here.
I am very frustrated with this problem on my Galaxy Tab S4. The dock does not go in landscape mode as it did in my other tablets.
WTF, they think that no one is using landscape mode?
