-Daniel

Umh, it's strange.
My gallery is very clean with this mod and i can see my photo.
However, open the zip of your rom, extract the apk called "HTCAlbum.apk" and push it or replace it in the zip and flash it.

This mod was suppose to be for deodexed custom ROMs only. I'll make another patch for odex ROM and post an update.
If anyone can deodex it right now and give me a link I'll appreciate it as I don't have the tools right now to make one.
Or maybe try removing the /system/app/HTCAlbum.odex file and see if it will work.

Excuse my ignorance, but i can't seem to extract from any of the ROM's ive downloaded (can't find the link to yours if i click the ics one in your signature it just takes me to a long thread with no obvious links). I know how to use adb to get the file onto the phone, but cant figure out how to get it out of the .tar.ext4 file ?
download blazer rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746184
then use 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) to open the zip.
navigate to system/app and find email.apk
extract it from there (drag and drop it out of the 7zip window to your desktop)
then copy that to your phone ... either use adb to push it to system/app or use root explorer on your phone.
hope that helps
Hi, I realize that your rom says that it's just for Sprint, if I were to download it and take the contacts.apk from it, would that not work on my AT&T galaxy SIII?
I accidentally disabled it and am currently trying to find a way to get it back onto my phone. :'( *I already looked at my settings>applications>all and it's not there. [contact storage is there, but I can't find the application that I use to actually read that, after the disabling.//I raged on it for continually popping up on my advanced task manager.]

I rooted (using this method: http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s3-sch-i535-root-101633/) and ended up using the non-bloatware version and apparently the regular email app was considered bloatware for some reason because it disappeared.
So I tried following your instructions, but there was no "email.apk" in the download, so I figured you probably meant "exchange.apk." Followed the instructions, moved it to system\app, changed the permissions, and rebooted but it's still not showing. So I went back to try to install it manually, and it just tells me it wasn't installed successfully (and yes, I have "unknown sources" selected).
I am also not sure if this is the stock GSIII email app, based on the icon. Looks like the old yellow email icon to me.

Amaze: Getting HQ-Camera and Gallery to Work Together in NonSense Roms

Hi All,
First off, I apologize if this has been covered in another thread. I've done a lot of searching for the answer to this and never found it.
I use CraigTut's Jellybean Fusion along with Faux's kernel as my daily driver, but I prefer the HQCamera and the HTC Gallery to the installed camera/Gallery combo (AOSP I think ???). But when I installed HQCamera, the rom retained the AOSP gallery and the camera and gallery didn't work well together, so for example I couldn't open the gallery by tapping the gallery icon in the camera screen. Finally, I prefered the sense gallery as it is two columns in width.
To solve this I found the following workaround. Sorry it's newbish but I don't know how to mod the flashable zip file yet and didn't need to for this exercise. Likewise, if there is another easier way, please feel free to post it.
1) (This step is to get the files are in the attachment HtcAlbumAPKs.zip) I already had the Stocked Amaze Deodexed rom on my computer and I extracted all files to a new folder. Most (if not all) other stock roms will work.
2) (The following files are in the attachment HtcAlbumAPKs.zip) Navigate to \system\app in the Stocked Amaze Deodexed rom and copied two files out of it a) HtcAlbumMapView.apk and b) HTCAlbumTMO.apk.
3) Extract HtcAlbumMapView.apk and HTCAlbumTMO.apk from the attached zip, HtcAlbumAPKs.zip, and place in your sdcard
4) Place HQ-Camera in the same place.
5) Using root explorer navigate to \system\app and delete the camera and gallery apks.
6) Using root explorer go to your sd card and copy HtcAlbumMapView.apk and HTCAlbumTMO.apk (menu, multi-select, tap two file names, copy)
7) Navigate to \system\app and paste the two files
8) Change permissions for each of the two files to match the other files in that folder. Using root explorer push down on file name until the menu popps up, select permissions and check only the following: the three in the left (read) column and the top one in the center (write) column. Uncheck any others that are checked and tap ok.
9) Boot into recovery and install attached HQ Camera from its location on your sdcard.
10) Wipe Cache + Dalvik Cache
11) Reboot and the HQ camera and gallery should be playing nice!
This works well for me on JB Fusion.
Cheers!

[THEMING] [GUIDE] For Begginers

Hello Friends U want to use ur own themed systemUI or Contacts.apk etc etc etc... i just sharing Work of some One
@credit
 @emompong for his guide
 @ShadeSK for sharing
Just a basic background on how to theme your ROMS. - ofcourse, give thanks to the developer of your ROMs! .
I made this thread for those users who have personal wishes for their Phones. Ofcourse, ROM developers cannot please all of its users. so just make your own and be happy!.
I just made it easy for easy understanding and for the newbies.
Tried so many times and tested
I've already tried editing the systemUI.apk of different ROMs.
Here's what I did :
FIRST : Download 7zip to open the archived apk. - that's free.
Extracting first the Zip File..
(make sure you copy the original before extracting it for back up)
1. Download the ROM.zip and extract it to your PC.
2. Go to \system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-ldpi\
3. View the PNG files you wanted to change and make sure to remember its' file name.
4. After editing/changing the file/image you wanted, you can save it anywhere from your PC, let's say on your Desktop.
- Make sure that the file name still remains as is..
*After you're done editing, updating the PNG files you wish to change, follow this steps to update the zip file :
NOTE : You can apply transparency by editing the PNG file to photoshop by reducing the opacity of the image
1. Go to the original ZIP file of ROM.Zip from your PC
2. Right Click the folder and select 7 ZIP -->> open archive
3. Close all of windows/Browers (or minimize)
4. Go to \system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-ldpi\ and it will open a new window of 7zip showing the files inside the zip.
5. Now, given your edited PNG files or downloaded png files (assuming that files are located in your desktop). - Click and simply DRAG the file(s) from your desktop to \system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-ldpi\ .
6. It will ask you to confirm the action for it will replace the existing PNG file that you're trying to change.
7. Make sure that the file name of the one you edited/downloaded are THE SAME. -
8. After dragging and replacing the files you wanted, then you're good to go!
9. Close the 7zip window and that's it!.
You can now install the .zip by copying the UPDATED zip file to your SD Card.
(Note: Make sure to copy the updated one, not the backed up one)
Install the zip file from the original thread's instructions and reboot twice.
After that, you have now a customized systemUI.apk.
For those who do not want to reinstall the whole package.. follow these steps:
1. I assumed that you have the zip file of your ROM.
2. Extract it and go to \system\app\
3. Separate the SystemUi.apk - put it on your desktop. create a back up,
Right Click SystemUi.apk and select 7 ZIP -->> extract here - just to view the files you wanted to change.
Just go the folder and search for the PNG files.
4. Right Click SystemUi.apk and select 7 ZIP -->> open archive.
5. Go to \res\drawable-ldpi\
6. Click and simply DRAG the PNG file(s) from your desktop to \res\drawable-ldpi\
7. It will ask you to confirm the action for it will replace the existing PNG file that you're trying to change.
8. Make sure that the file name of the one you edited/downloaded are THE SAME. -
9. After dragging and replacing the files you wanted, then you're good to go!
APPLYING :
1. Download and install rootexplorer.apk
2. Download the png files you wanted to update.
3. Copy and paste the NEW SystemUi.apk that you have updated/Edited to your SD card.
4. Open root explorer in your galaxy y then go and tap MOUNT R/W.
5. Go to \SDCard and go to new SystemUI.apk that you have updated.
6. Long press the file and select copy
7. Press back and go to \system\app - tap MOUNT R/W at the top.
8. Paste the new SystemUI.apk from there.
(Note : You will encounter a lot of force closes for the exixsting systemui is currently being used by your phone. - just ignore it a lot and scroll down to look for the new SystemUI.apk.
9. Once you get there, long press on it and select permissions:
from the pop up, make the checked one like this :
•___•____ •
•___ .____.
•___ .____.

[Stock][YP-GS1][TouchWiz30Launcher]List view Stock TW Launcher Galaxy Player 3.6

I have modified the stock TouchWiz launcher from our Galaxy Player 3.6 to have the list view mode and 5x4 app drawer. This is still Touchwiz 3.0 and IS still odexed.
You must be rooted to use this!.
This will not work on other devices!
Instructions:
I am not responsible for anything YOU do to YOUR device!
1.) Make sure to have another launcher installed in case something goes wrong!!!
2.) Download the file with the features that you want and extract the zip.
3.) Copy the extracted file to your Galaxy Player
4.) Using a root file explorer (I recommend ES File Explorer) copy the file to /system/app/ if prompted replace the file in /system/app. DO NOT DELETE the TouchWiz30Launcher.odex (This uses the same odex file that is already there!)
5.) Reboot and enjoy
Install by ADB:

1.) Make sure to have another launcher installed in case something goes wrong!!!
2.) Download the file to your computer and extract.
3.)Run the following commands
Code:
adb root
adb remount
adb push PATH_TO_EXTRACTED_FILE, /system/app
adb reboot
For an alphabetic grid view app drawer look at this app(THIS IS NOT MY APP ALL thanks for it should go to the developer!!!) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.demidoes.appzorter

Port a Rom the Basic way [no signing - no compiling - no special software]

Use a CM Rom for your Base as these are tried and tested (you can use Stock also as long as you are porting to another similar Stock Rom hardware)
(Make a backup copy of all the files your download - you may need to extract the files again later)
: : : You will not need to re-sign your rom.zip as you will be using an existing already signed rom : : :
: : : The drag and drop method does not require you to re-sign the rom : : :
: : : You will need notepad++ (win) or TextWrangler (mac) to edit build.prop files and scripts : : :
: : : You will also need winzip7 / winRAR (win) or Springy / B1FreeArchiver (mac) to edit the rom.zip files : : :
Find your a working Base Rom for your mobile and extract the contents to your desktop, then delete the following folders from the desktop
system/app
system/fonts
system/framework
system/media
system/priv-app
Edit the build.prop file in the Base Rom >system folder to reflect your new Port Rom details - these vary depending on the port your are using
The lines you need to look for are as follows;
ro.build.id=
ro.build.display.id=
ro.build.date=
ro.modversion=
Now find the Port Rom you want to go to making sure it is close to your manufacture as possible [for example; xperia SP use xperia Z - these have similar screen sizes and hardware]
Extract the contents as before and now copy the following folders back into the Base Rom on your desktop
system/app
system/fonts
system/framework
system/media
system/priv-app
Now open the original Base Rom .zip (do not extract it) with winzip7 or winRAR and delete the following folders
system/app
system/fonts
system/framework
system/media
system/priv-app
Now with the .zip still open 'drag and drop' ALL the folders from your desktop Base Rom into the now open base Rom .zip over-writting any existing files/folders
Do not save just close the .zip and upload to your mobile sdcard, enter recovery, flash and enjoy.
Possible Issues and solutions:
You may need to remove the kernel in the Base Rom and sideload one more appropriate to your new Port Rom - flashtool is good for this
Recovery Crashes - error codes 6 or 7 are mainly caused by corrupted zips, bad partitions or poor coding in the updater-script file
Boot issues and strange video issues are mainly a cause of framework incompatibilities - try another Port Rom closer to your mobile hardware
I use this method for all my ports - the hardest part is finding a Base Rom, the next is realising the Port Rom can take hours of trials and errors
I never bother editing the framework files I just move onto finding another Port Rom closer to my Mobile Hardware
The least you mess about with the least there is to go wrong!!!
If you are very confident and can work with open .zip files on the fly you can perform all the above without the need to extract much other than the build.prop
Simply with the 'drag and drop' method between the two open .zip files
This possibly won't work for Miui as that requires a little more editing and work
: : UPDATE : :
This method can be done on either a windows or mac computer - I have successfully done it on both
Due to the latest Android 5.0 versions having extra compression this method may no longer work
In principal it could work however you will need other software to extract the compressed system files now compiled within the rom
Thanks to wine (mac) you can run this software however at this point the procedure is taking too long to complete, so I have given up!
Hope this helps someone
Extra Useful Stuff
Some Tips and tricks to get the most out of Android Rom's
Always keep an original .ftf backup ready to flash with flashtool if anything goes wrong
Adding Market place apps to a ROM
For Jelly Bean Rom place them into the following folder:
/system/etc/product/applications
-they should update as normal users apps once google play app store is run
-they will appear in the normal app folder as “downloads”
-they will also come back once a factory reset is initiated
For kitkat based Roms you will need to use the root of the Rom
/data/
However you will also need to update the update-script appropriately
Snappier mobile
go into Settings > developer options > and Window animation scale and Transition Animation scale > change both of those to 0.5x
(or 0 for both, for instant reactions).
Fix issues with no sound or muted incoming calls/text
clear data for messaging app and phone app
fix issues with rotation, excellerometer and proximity sensor
simply smack the back of the mobile firmly into the palm of your hand
fix for unresponsive or fc of google play store
Go into recovery and clear all Cache values (Partition cache and Davik cache)
reinstall Gapps and reboot
If that fails try this:
clear the data for all google apps and the following;
google account manager
google play services
google play store
google services framework
and make sure 'download manager' is enabled
Turn any nano backup into a flashable ROM
system.ext4.tar.a*– Contains the system files
data.ext4.tar.a – Contains all other data files
backup with CWM
rename system.ext4.tar.a to system.tar
extract contents and drag and drop contents into an exsiting rom.zip
Better performance
goto system/bin/ and rename mpdecision to mpdecision.old
Problems with media storage
place .nomedia file in any folder you want excluding from album app
use file manager to create the file and show hidden files to view file
(.nomedia is hidden by default) clear cache on media storage app and restart
As usual you use these at your own risk
