Try checking if it is hardware or software problem by booting in recovery
Please explain?I'm on stock right now been working straight since I got the phone so haven't rooted yet. How will this help tell if it's hardware or software I'm confused. Haven't rooted a HTC since my mytouch3g is it still a complete pain in the ass

There is a section on your problem. Many of us have it. Seems to be the screen protector causing it.

Just fyi, I have a screen protector on and I have no problems with the buttons. HOWEVER, when using a custom kernel, I have sensitivity issues and unresponsiveness issues. So take that for what it's worth.

Bad digitizer. My OG Droid did that.
Don't think it'd be covered under manufacturer's warranty due to it not being a defect. But you can try.

Bad digitizer sounds like faulty hardware to me? I would think if that's the case it would be covered under warranty.

It's possible but more likely is caused by being dropped or hit.
Sent from my Synergized Thunderbolt via XDA Premium App
That is not true! The digitizer can fail for any reason. Call vzw and let them know. My wife got one and it did the touch screen crap b4 she even finished typing her gmail addy at the store. Factory reset may work if it is just corrupted.

Yeah it can just burn out in the T-bolt. Send it back after returning to factory settings, you will be golden.

What exactly you want with this thread? If your digitizer is broken, buy another and replace it
Sent from my MB860
Try this link. It's a weird fix that might work. If not you'll just have to buy a new digitizer and replace it.

Highly doubt it. Atrix 4G is known for having issues with the digitizer. I myself have a dead stripe vertically too. Let us know how it goes tough.

Same here. I upgraded to a new phone. I was hoping I would be able to stick with Motorola, but nope.
At some point I'll probably drop $30 on the new digitizer and try to resurrect it.

Im thinking the same thing. Im going to buy something used though. Maybe a S2 or something. Only requisites are that it must have official ICS and great dev support.
I'm thinking about the note 2

Yeah lie everyone said either a new phone or replace the digitizer. There are "fixes" on the software side but mine like many other the digitizer was just broken. I can report I successful my replaced mine

Couple of question:
1) Did you replaced the digitizer yourself?
2) Where you bought it?
3) Was it hard to replace?
4) How much it costed?
I have an upgrade in November so I'm thinking note 2

Just get a new phone. There's still a chance that the replacement digitiZer won't work either.

The digitizer is super easy to replace.
I used ifixit.com's teardown and was able to figure out everything I needed. In fact I was actually replacing a water damaged lcd but I had to tear the phone down in exactly the same way. 20 minute job for someone with almost no experience inside of electronic devices.

Possibly a hardware fault, you may have to take it to a store. But are you using a custom ROM? If yes, can you give more details?
This happened quite in surprise I was watching a video in YouTube with the charge cable connected and suddenly the screen went crazy and then the problem a started.
It works at time but not all

Are you on the stock ROM? Or have you rooted the device and installed a custom ROM?

Lcd sounds about right. Since there is no visible physical damage you may be able to return under warranty. These new phones are beast software and hardware wise but they don't stand up to physical shock.

Dropped mine today as well, on the ground. Luckily I had a cover (the HTC semi transparent one) but still it scratched a little near the down left corner
After I saw your post I was pretty happy nothing happened to the display. Sorry for yours though
Dropped mine on a wooden floor today and it luckily landed screen up, my heart stopped for a brief second! Sorry to see you broke your screen. Good luck getting it repaired
