Google Play is telling me my Google Talk has been updated to the new Hangout, but Talk still looks the same. Anyone figured out how to get the new one to work yet?
Also, playing with it on Chrome now... really don't understand why they don't let you see who's online. Pretty dumb.
I had to push it from the Play website for it to take.
You have to update the app using the play store website from a computer and send it to your phone

I uninstalled Talk using Root Explorer and then installed the Hangouts app from the Play Store

It says I've already got it installed on the web store. Looks like I'm going to have to hit up Root Explorer.
uninstall talk via titanium backup, then get hangout from play store.
but my n10 not supported.....

This is what it says in the app description:
NOTE: If you aren't yet able to install Hangouts on your phone or tablet, or the Play Store "Open" button takes you to the old Talk app, hang tight, we are rolling out Hangouts to everyone over the course of several days. Rest assured Hangouts will be available soon for all Android 2.3+ devices, tablets included!
So i think it will take time. Even I have the old talk application still.
Remove with titanium, install from store. Profit.
I got an update and I did it. I now have hangouts instead of talk. UI is slightly unintuitive, but then again, Talk was barebones anyway
I rolled back to talk. hangouts isn't as good. it's slow, takes a while to load up whereas hitting talk icon would instantly show your list and then conversation.. this is like it has to load from the cloud.. and then there's no buddy list so you don't even know who's online, or who's away so you don't disturb them. idk, i don't like it.

Yeah, but you don't like anything.
I really like the new hangouts. Sure it may load a bit slower, however it lets you know how far someone has read in the conversation and I don't get why it would "disturb" someone... It's just like texting they don't have to respond... Well to each their own, but I see the improvements big time.
it loads slower but swipe to the right for a buddy list.

I was able to play the game but now it won't even start up at all. Not sure what the problem is. I have cm7 2.1. I have tried to uninstall and install but nothing. Anyone have this problem?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Has this happened after an update? Because there are a lot of comments in there suggesting an update has bugged the game.
Failing that, clear cache and data.
i had the same problem until I downloaded words with friends apk with no ad and now its working.
I will have to try doing thast.

I can't seem to figure out how to access the chat portion in words with friends. I can barely see the chat box on the right hand side of the screen and can access the typing area and the keyboard comes up but I can't figure out how to shift the box over to see what the other person is typing. I'm on cm9 with one of the march nightlies. Anyone else have this problem? Any fix?
Same for me, update game force close.
Go ahead and clear data and then logon with email. Game works but I can't get to the chat on the left might have to use another resolution. For now have to chat with another program.

Chat works in 120dpi setting.
Only thing for me not working with words, is the paid option to skip adds / not show ads -- is not showing up.
Has anyone figured out how to log into Facebook within WWF under CM9/ICS? I see those games but the user IDs all look like "zyngaXXXYYYZZZ" and there's no way to associate the game with Facebook like there is under CM7 or iOS.
I have the apk for the 3.4.4 market. I froze the market updater but when I install the Market apk within 5 minutes it updates to play. Is there a way to prevent the upgrade?
What's the big deal with preventing the update? Looks like exactly the same market with a name change to me. Just wondering what I'm missing and in no way trying to be a jerk.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
You dont want to stop the update because if you do, you will not be able to get apps or update current apps with the old market.
Anything else that relies on the newer market will fail as well. I doubt you could stop it anyway..
Install an older version of the Market and use Titanium Backup to freeze the Market Updater...but there's no good reason to not update.
The new market is great! LOL, it is pretty much the same. The only difference if you have a tablet and that allowed you to purches music through the app. Again looks pretty much the same. New name

personally the name change is annoying as all hell, google quit trying to program your brand name in my brain, when i want to buy and app or something i want to go to the market or to the store, not go to the google and pick up a new app.
every-time i'm in a rush trying to pull something from the app market i can't find the bloody icon because i'm looking for the market or in the old location on my app drawer, minor change i know but i have caught myself cussing at google when i needed to re-d/l my gps app after it crashed during a trip i as on a few days ago.
any chance of renaming the new app back to market without root?
Just use a launcher and if already do, just change the name duh..lol that's what I did ....

I also would like to learn how to get around using Play. The new terms seem to allow Google to read my sms messages and record the message routing. I don't think my correspondents would appreciate having their thoughts being part of Google's repertoire.

The only way to get around using Google Play is to not use android. What you're asking is the equivalent of saying you want to use an iDevice without the app store.

Memory needs > any update
I have a very good reason for not wanting auto-upgrades. Radio Shack misled me about the HTC Wildfire S and now I've got jack for memory. I have four apps installed, use only the native message app, and I'm lucky to have 25mb free. Anything less than that and the phone works as well as the Pony Express does today.
FWIW, Tandybot told me I could always install apps on the SD card. In theory, yes, but so few app devs code apps to work in that manner. Lesson learned.
kite edit: SNIP! No need for that kind of attitude around here, I'm afraid.

So I lost my Note. And I have been getting a stupid error from the play store. I figured out how to fix it, but not before losing my phone. I know about Plan B and Android Lost and I know I can remotely install them, but the store is messed up and won't download them. Any suggestions? PLEASE. If it helps, I have a tablet that is also hooked up to the same gmail accout. Can I somehow use web access only to find it via my gmail account?
Try changing your email password. Clear Playstore cache in settings, applications. Then open Playstore. Log back in.

It doesn't sound like he's tried just getting on desktop web store. It may still install an app to the note from there I'd guess. He knows the note play store was messed up so he's concerned he won't be able to install anything on it.
I think going to web store still works in those situations although I'm not sure because it's been forever since my play store ****ed up.

Does anyone here use these kind of apps? I saw a couple posts for utter and speaktoit but they were short lived. I have browsed the internet but it seems like every site recommends a different on. I don't really want to go through the process of trying/learning every one to find the best one. I might do that with 2 or 3, but I would like to narrow it down to those 2 or 3 first.
One thing I would really like to have is the ability to set reminders just by speaking to the app. Things like pick up billy from soccer at 5:00, or pay the bills on Monday and have it put those in the calendar or a to do app or whatever and then have it send me a reminder on those days or times.

I'm using the jellybean sandwich rom, which is CM9 based, so I don't think I have access to the latest version of google now. But when I was using it, I never really got it, or learned how to use it effectively. Although it was pretty awesome when it told me to leave for work early in the morning because there was a lot of traffic
there are ways to get google now on cm9 but its easier to update your rom. i've been using JamieD81's unofficial cm10.2 and just flashed cm10.2 nightly and both have been really stable so far
My only issues with Dragon is that it's a huge app once the voice files download - and it uses a ton of RAM on standby even when I don't use it to alert me regarding messages. Also it does not speak much; It's better at providing search results...

I was thinking about trying his new 4.3 pacman rom, but I always hated how JB roms always seemed to random reboot when I was sending texts. I do have google now on my CM9 rom, it's just an older version and the play store says I can't update. But does google now allow me to tell it to set a reminder and then have it remind me.
Assistant does that, although it seems to store the reminders internally rather than put them on the calendar as well.
every other jb rom i've used always had random reboots but so far with wit the new 4.2 i've had no reboots.
you can set reminders with google now 2 ways. time based or location based and it will send a notification. i like the location based because you can say remind me to buy milk when i'm near the store and will send a notification. it also doesn't store to the calendar and they dont make it very convenient to view upcoming reminders. if you want to add to calendar you can add calendar events instead of reminders.

I always thought that would be a good idea to be able to set reminders like "buy milk" and have it go off when you were by a store, didn't realize google now could do that. I'm on a 4.3 rom now, not sure if I will stay with it cause it does have some issues, but I do have google now, so maybe I should learn how to use it. How does it handle the location based reminders. Do you have to tell it what location to remind you at or will it go off any "store" that in theory sells milk?

Here is a full system.img dump from the new Nexus 5 that was released yesterday. Droid Life posted the updated Google Apps here:
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/3...-5-dump-search-launcher-and-more/#more-123662
I have Infected Rom on my Rez and updated some of the apps to the latest versions. Google Home (the new launcher) works great. The new Hangouts is now also your SMS app. Gmail, Google Keyboard (with built in emoji plugin), and Google Play Services also work. Google Gallery FC on me, and the new Camera app works, but the new feature (don't know what it is called) FC'ed when I clicked on it. Camera settings is set for 8m pixels, but when viewed in the old Gallery, the pics weren't full size. The pic quality was great, though.
Throughout the day and weekend, REV3NT3CH and I will be testing more new .apk's and will keep you all informed. This system.img dump also includes the build.prop and the boot.img. We are gonna do our best to get either the Nexus 5 system ported over to the Rez, or build straight from AOSP source.
If any other Devs would like in on this, then please PM either REV3NT3CH or myself, and we can go from there.
I am NOT a Dev myself, still learning a few things, but know enough to do what we need to do. Any questions then feel free to ask, and if this thread is in the wrong section then please let me know, or move it to the right section.
Here is the link to the full system dump:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hty7m61cgy16bcq/Nexus 5 dump.zip
Hope this can help get us started for the Rez.
EDIT: My dropbox links are generating too much traffic. Uploading to Mediafire now. Dropbox links are still working currently, though. Once uploaded to mediafire, I will put the links up. Thanks all!
ANOTHER EDIT: Here is the mediafire link for the system dump and the apps.

Xda is generally quieter during 9-5 on the east coast.
If you guys can port this to the Rezound, that would be awesome. I've got a port of 4.3.1 running on my Rezound and it runs pretty well. I'm not aware of any inherent reason KitKat can't run (except to the extent that Wallet requires NFC) on Rezound hardware.

I tried most of these on tachyon 1.2, just quick apk install no real diagnostics. I found the new Google search seems to close right after opening (no fc just closes).
The launcher seems to work but relies on the search piece which generates errors, it kinda works with both installed, but generally needs a Dev to investigate for our devices.
Email app seems to work, but no exchange services tie to it, compared to my other native email app they appear to point to different setting locations.
Clock wouldn't install
Keyboard, Gmail, hangouts, and keep all seem to be fine. Some of the wallpapers are pretty sweet too

Thanks for the info. I haven't had a chance to test out all the apps. You have to install Google Play Services, Google Search, and Google Home to get the launcher to work properly. Voice search part does FC though, but that is the only issue I have found. I installed Google Now to go with it all, and it is sweet, but Voice Search FC's. I think Email and a few others are gonna have to rely on the new services.jar to get it all working properly. Anyone who knows how to read code better than me hopefully will figure it out. I will post more apps and what is working later on today, hopefully.
Try installing Exchange2Google.apk to get the Exchange to work in the new Email.apk.
