Asking for information again. - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I just got the new HTC One yesterday, I upgraded from a One X and had that rooted, unlocked , and flashed several roms back and forth.
Is this HTC One like the HTC One X for rooting and flashing custom recoveries?
Another question off this subject. But, is there any way to get rid of the Blink Feed without rooting

I don't know about the One X, but for the One, in general it's: unlock bootloader --> flash custom recovery --> anything you want (root/flash roms & modules/etc)
About the second question: your only option to get rid of Blinkfeed completely is to install a different launcher, but you'll lose Sense. You can also push Blinkfeed screen out of the way by making another screen as your home screen, and just pretend that that screen doesn't exist.

Sounds like the HTC one and the HTC One X is about the same, get token, unlock, flash recovery then whatever on the roms and mods.
I think thats what I did, pushed it over to another screen and don't use it. I don't like having multiple screeens but that is what I have . Guess maybe to get rid of it, is unlock, and flash another rom.
Thanks

questions about rooting

1)can some one give me a link to the most easiest and current way to root? ((Ive looked every where and im not even sure what i am to look for)) Also i am fully updated.
2)after i root,,,can i keep the phone basically the way it is meaning stock and sense?really just want to root as to get rid of all the bloatware and possibly over clock it.
3)Is there away to back up the phone pre-root in case i dont like root and wish to return to stock?
Any help in these matters would be greatly appreciated.
So, here's my $0.02 worth:
1) The easiest is not the best. If you want to root your phone, you need to learn how to use ADB. It's not difficult. You will need it at some point in the future. Here's a link to root your Thunderbolt > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616
Here's a noob's guide to ADB >http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
2) Yes you can.
3) I'm not sure, but here is a link that will return your phone to stock > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423
Plus one on learning adb its way easier than youd think. i always tried to use the one click methods and whatnot but i finally had to in adb and it was way easier. no worry about something wrong with the auto root. also try mybackup app from the market. i used it to backup everything initially then use titanium bacckup after you root since its way better
Advice on rooting flashing Thunderbolt?
Hi all,
I am so frustrated With my Moto atrix 4g and the fact that it has a locked boot loader with the new 2.3.4 stock rom....I have a real simple question;
If I obtain a Thunderbolt, does Verizon force HTC to keep anything locked or make the Thunderbolt difficult to root, unlock boot loader and ultimately flash non-stock roms from XDA ?
If it is like past HTC phones then it should be a rom flasher's dream, correct? It is able to be unlocked and i can flash roms from this wonderful forum?
Please advise....much appreciated.

Bro, really, take just 2 minutes to look around! There's a root guide right at the top of the dev forum!
To the OP: learning ADB and some basic Linux commands will become more useful than you know. Like quickly and easily checking an md5 without some stupid app or a computer. Plus, jcase is very easy to find and very helpful if there's a problem. I really can't endorse doing it the jcase way enough.
***LOCKED*** On Bootloader
Hello All,
First of all thanks for the awesome easy guide !!
This is the first time I am rooting my HTC Tbolt and have had an issue to start with.
Used the instructions in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401959
After I download the 2.11.605.5 downgrade zip, I rename it, put in on the SD Card and go to HBOOT and it installs the downgrade just fine.
But at the end of this process, when I try to get the MR4 Radio onto the SD Card and install it, it simply does not happen. HBoot checks for the file, finds it, but nothing happens. I have renamed in properly and followed instructions to the dot.
I also noticed a ***LOCKED*** right on top of the screen and I think this could be an issue.
Can I go ahead and proceed with the Revolutionary Root Technique ? Would this be possible at this point ?
Is there anyway I can get Flash the MR4 Radio before I actually root ?
Also, would I be able to flash the MR4 Radio onto my device after Rooting ?
Any help is much appreciated !
Thanks in advance !
Cheers !

Is the One M8 easy to flash ROM's ?

I have an upgrade available on ATT, looking at the One M8 or the S5. I like to flash stock ROM's that have been tweaked to remove bloatware, and add better battery life. Been using Android phones for years, had the first four Nexus phones ( N1, N-S, G Nex, N4 ), a couple of HTC ( EVO 4G and One X ), and a few Samsung Galaxy phones ( S2, Note 2, S4 ).
My last HTC was an international One X, and man did that phone piss me off flashing ROM's, had to go through all this fast boot crap, and command prompt stuff, and all these extra steps just to flash a new ROM or kernel, and then always had to make sure I was up to date on my bootloader update or something ? Bottom line it was a big pain in the balls, and frustrating.
My Nexus 4 was easy as pie to flash ROM's and stuff, but the battery life sucked. And I currently have the ATT S4, and this phone is locked down tight, no flashing custom ROM's or kernels on this, only root that's it. So I think I am done with Samsung on U.S. carriers for now.
So lets say I get the ATT One M8, I see it can be rooted pretty easily, and a custom Recovery installed ? What about flashing new ROM's ? Is it as simple as just rebooting the phone to Recovery, and wiping data, etc... then flash the ROM zip and reboot and all good ? Or do we have to go through the bootloader and command prompt stuff on this phone ?
Thank you
Depending on how good you are with ADB and your computer Command Prompt, the hardest part to rooting and flashing custom roms would be unlocking the bootloader as you need to take additional steps to unlock it unlike the Nexus line of devices.
But it's a AIO(All In One Toolkit) in the international threads that haven you just click, copy and paste pretty much.
After that all you need to do is install a recovery and flash away. No more need of a computer every time you want to flash a rom like the One X did

Thanks. I understand that rooting and unlocking the One M8 is more in depth and longer process than a Nexus phone, but once that's completed, and a Recovery installed on the phone I just want to be able to download ROM zips to the sd/card, and quickly reboot and flash a ROM and be done. I was really turned off by that international One X crap, flashing a ROM became a major ordeal.
Yup you can just download the rom to your SD card and flash from there
Are the international roms compatible like with the m7

its not hard at all and shouldnt take you more than 20-30 mins. its relatively simple actually.
i just got the att m8 , it has hboot 3.16. i was able to unlock with htc dev, s-off was easy on firewater, but i have not been ablle to successfully flash other roms. the phone will finish successfully but upon rebooting into the new rom, the phone will get to the screen when u chose language then reboot itself every min or so from booting up. i havent tryied to flash any aosp roms yet, i have a feeling that aosp roms would work fine, but i dont want an aosp rom yet. i feel like its a sense thing. i have tryed to change my phone to a developer edition, changed cid to supercid, flash developer nandroid, same problem, i sim unlocked and using tmobile sim card no issues there, but the stock rom my phone came with is the only one that works.
I would go with the M8 I had the note 3 as my last At&t phone and no one was ever able to unlock the bootloader.

Help with my htc one xl

Please i'm desperately in need of assistance. I tried to root hy htc one xl. After unlocking bootloader with the instructions from htcdev.com website, I tried to root it with insecurebootandboot method. The phone restarted after that and started showing some red text about copywrite. I tried to fix it by flashing a custom rom and now when I switch on the phone, it just shows the htc logo and switches off. Please any help will be greatly appreciated but keep it as simple as possible as I am still a newbie
Pretty sure the red text is normal after the unlock. For the rom flash, did you also flash the boot.img via fastboot? I am certain that would have been in the instructions for installation of the rom, as it is standard for 99% of HTC Dev unlocked phones.
Also, which HTC One XL do you have? Is it from a particular region or carrier as that can be important to which files are needed to fix it. And what update was it on?
Yes I flashed it via fastboot and its an unlocked htc one xl, not attached to any carrier. Its running on stock android 4.1

[How To] Return AT&T HTC One M8 To Stock

I wanted to return my HTC One to stock, and it took me hours to do so. I had to search for multiple threads, and it was a big hassle and pretty confusing. I am back to stock now, although I am still S-Off. I figured I would compile a thread helping others in similar situations return to stock. This guide will help you return to sense, lock your bootloader, unroot, hide your tampered banner, as well as prevent your device from showing up as relocked. You're device will still remain S-Off after following these steps.
Here are the steps. I am assuming the recovery is device specific, and I wouldn't recommend flashing the recovery.img on any device other than the AT&T M8.
1. Make sure your device is S-Off. If not, download firewater and S-Off your device.
2. Restore a nandroid of the stock Sense ROM, or find a stock ROM to flash. You'll have to dig around; I used a nandroid.
3. Flash SuperSU.zip in recovery on top of the stock Sense ROM. You can find the SuperSU.zip here: http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU
4. Use adb to flash the stock recovery.img to your device. You can get the recovery files here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711814 *ONLY FOR THE AT&T MODEL*
5. Boot back up into sense, and follow this guide to remove the tampered banner in recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708565
6. Follow this guide to lock your boot loader and make it say **LOCKED** instead of **RELOCKED**. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571
7. Boot your device back up, and open SuperSU. Go into settings and find the "full unroot" option and run that. Reboot your device like it suggests.
8. I would factory reset your device in settings or recovery to make sure everything's clean, although this step isn't necessary.
Enjoy Sense! Hope I was able to help some of you guys! ?

I am not sure. I haven't tried returning to AT&T. The only thing they can get you for is S-Off, but some devices shipped S-Off so I don't know how likely that is to happen. AT&T shouldn't look into it too much. They don't have access to HTCDev so they can't see you've requested an unlock token.

I don't know about your AT&T store reps, but I can't think of a single one from a store local to me that would have any clue whatsoever on how to determine if the device was rooted, unlocked, etc.
Also keep in mind that, unless you've personally irritated one of them, THEY (usually) DON'T CARE. They might be required to check certain things by AT&T corporate, but do you really think that a typical sales rep is going actually exert any extra effort whatsoever to check the device?
Take the steps you mentioned. Leave the device S-OFF, but clear the "tampered" flag (as you mentioned) and any type of red warning that happens on the boot animation. Basically, just fix up the extremely obvious stuff that a sales rep couldn't possible ignore. When you go to bring it back, act like you've never heard of "XDA", and if someone asks if the phone was modified, tell them that you changed the default ringtone or something silly like that. (In other words, play dumb.)

I was in a store the other day with a friend who needed something done to his account. Beside us was a rep trying to activate an M8 for a customer. She kept running to the back to get different SIM cards and couldn't figure out why they wouldn't fit. She was trying to put them in the SD card slot
And you're worried about them checking bootloader locks and S-Off?
To give an example of how "closely" an AT&T store rep examines a phone for exchange/return:
I noticed a couple days ago that the volume button on my own M8 is quite a bit more.. wiggly.... than the AT&T demo M8's in my local store. It doesn't really bother me, but I figured I was still in my "14 days" so I could get a simple exchange for a more perfect volume button.
So, I spent about an hour backing up my device, changing the CID back to CWS__001, switching the firmware back to AT&T stock, switching the recovery back to stock, patching the bootloader to NOT show "unlocked" or "tampered", etc. Basically, when I was done, it was nearly impossible for even a knowledgeable person to know I had "converted" the phone to a dev edition and so on.
I brought the phone to the store and here's what they did to examine it: NOTHING.
They saw that the screen turned on, and that was it. Nothing else. I was extremely disappointed. (Perhaps it relates that I had just factory reset it, so it was sitting at that stupid AT&T welcome screen... perhaps they didn't want to waste time tapping through all the prompts?)
Oh, and I ended up NOT doing the exchange. They brought a new one up, and it had the same wiggly volume button. So, we opened a couple more boxes and all were wiggly. Being that I didn't see any other defect in my existing phone, I decided to keep my known wiggle instead of risking a different different that wiggled just as much, but might also have some other issue.
Take care

You can find stock nandroid backups here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376. Make sure your CID matches! Instructions are in that thread.
Yes, if you follow this method you will receive OTA updates again.

There was a poster who claimed they told him he was ineligible for the replacement because they had him on record on HTCdev as unlocking his boot loader. Said he needed the dev edition to be able to do that without voiding his warranty. That was just one person though
I got my device 2 days ago and rooted immediately. Then I noticed I was on the old firmware version, so I used your guide to get unroot and back to stock. It worked well. Now I'm updated and rooted again

Believe it or not all you have to do is put the stock rom back on the device. You still have a hardware warranty. If say, your speaker is broken that would have occurred regardless of you flashing the ROM. Flashing the rom is not a punishment for you to live with bad hardware... However try to put back to stock if you can.
thank u for helping

AT&T terms clearly state that they have the "right" to void warranty if the software is modified.
In reality, AT&T will not check or care. Its more important to keep you as a monthly account holder, versus the relatively modest price if a refurb phone. I've seen many reports of successful warranty exchanges with unlocked bootloader, root, even having an obviously custom ROM (like CM) installed.
Return to close as stock as possible/feasible to play it safe. But its likely not going to be a deal breaker.

[Q] Is it possible to just root the HTC Desire 601?

Hi all!
I am going to buy a new smartphone and the HTC DEsire 601 seems ok for my usage. Moreover it looks really good, i like it. Before getting it, however, i totally need to be sure about one thing: is it possible to simply root the phone?
I have read several threads here and all of them suggest to start by unlocking the bootloader as a first step and as a second step you can get root access. I would like to keep the bootloader locked and i don't think i will need to get S-OFF. So my question is, if i keep my phone bootloader-locked and S-ON, can i get root access?
Root is really important for me because there are 3-4 fundamental apps that i use and these require root access. Is there anyone who have found himself/herself in this situation? Which root method can work direcltly on a brand new HTC desire 601 running jelly bean? Any personal experience?
Thanks in advance,
bye

To root your phone you need to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and flash the latest SU binaries.
If its not to late, I would avoid the desire 601. Not really reliable. 4 of my friends got this one and they all had problems. 2 of them died when on charge (defective motherboard ----> qhsusb_dload mode). Another one is having issue with wifi not being able to turn on, he must power off the phone, remove the sim and sd card and reboot each time the wifi hangs. They all had the infamous battery drain issue which they solved using some Xposed mod. So on 4 devices, 4 of them were having software problem (battery drain) and 3 of them had hardware problem....
