Removing Google Search and reclaiming screen space - AT&T LG Optimus G

Hello to all and good day! I'm rooted, unlocked, and enjoying all the roms I can. It has been fun trying different ones out. More recently I went back to stock(still rooted and unlocked) and just started debloating myself. I've come to the Google Search which I just uninstalled with TB but I still can't use that space where it was. Im trying to not download a launcher and would like to do this without. Does anyone know of a way or do I have to use a launcher? Thanks for your time!

You have no choice. You need a different launcher.

Ah.. well I can live with that. Now it's back to testing launchers. I've grown fond of atom launcher. Anyway, thank you for the reply. Case closed

ICS Launcher

Anybody here get the chance to use that yet? It looks nice from the Android Market screen shots, but it won't let you download the App for whatever reason right now.
Anyone try it yet? Thoughts about it?...

Yeah it's made by the same dev, but the version in the market looks newer.
Didn't see the original thread that you posted. Thanks...

ICL will help hold me over until ICS comes out...

True but still miss the Market for reading comments other than the XDA thread dedicated to it where they might be a little bit more biased...

I messed around with that on my Symbian phones. They had a trial version of SPD, but it didn't do anything for me.
Since I've been on Android, I've used pretty much all the major launchers and try to keep up with the new ones.
LP is my all time fav, but ICS is nice to have until the fw upgrade comes out...

Apparently Google wasn't very happy that we finished before them but ICSL will be back on the market soon and in the meantime you can find all updates and release information on the site http://syndicateapps.com/main/ICS_Launcher.html
We've been making a lot of changes in the last week to get the dock and app drawer to look more like the video on engadget so stay tuned

Hey glad to hear you're liking hc3D I feel bad that it hasn't been updated in so long, all of my spare time has gone into ics3D and the launchers but I've been working on a major update that I'm finally gonna be able to finish up and release now that the first few subversions of the ics cm7 theme are done

ADW question
I have a custom dock and icon pack that is in a zipped file. The instructions say to "The docks and icons in the folders meant for custom launcher such as launcherpro, adw launcher, go launcher and so on. Don't apply with cwm! Just extract the zip file in desktop." but not much else...
How do you get ADW EX to recognize this package? THNX

Yes, I am running on my LG Optimus V. It has run smoothly so far (one fc, minor) but does have a minor issue with the app drawer. On the LG, the screen is kind of small and the apps extend up into the header area (Apps | Widgets) and the lower bar doesn't show up at all. Doesn't seem to matter much to me, I am pretty happy with it and think the guys did a great job on it. HCL looks pretty cool too.
This launcher works great on the Atrix, the devs are doing a great job and they've promised an ICS lockscreen for this week.
Keep an eye on their thread/site this is going to rock even more soon!

I was able to Jerry rig ics launcher by enabling keep home screen in memory choice in cm7.1
Now the dock and home keys also rotate
I installed it, am using it, it's definitely not 100% but it gives a nice look. It's making me want ICS that much more though

Touchwiz reboots?

Is anyone else experiencing the Touchwiz launcher rebooting after being in an app and coming out if it for a period of time. Really bugging me that I can't find anything reporting the same problem?

There's loads of threads on this. Change dalvik cache size or just use Nova launcher. IMO it's better.

There have been loads of reports about it.
Use Nova as the poster above said or go to android.mimic.ca and upload your services.jar and it'll change the oom priorities so the launcher isn't killed.

I really think I need a lesson in how to search properly. So if I use another launcher will Touchwiz lay dormant or still be running in the background?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
You could try checkrom's latest release, they have tweaked tw to reduce redraws, I haven't noticed the problem since I flashed it.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Any reason why you recommend nova as to apex. I read they are so similar. I wanna know the best so I can pay for the full one
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Still does it whether on custom roms or whether you apply any and all the tweaks on the forum, it also happens with all the launchers.
Serious problem that needs to be addressed.
You will also notice multitasking is a complete no no as all the other apps reload too.
More ram is needed or many many less running apps.
Go launcher doesn't seem to redraw if you can stand such an old launcher.
Peace.

You're doing it wrong.
Go launcher is ****.
I NEVER get redraws with Nova.
Use my phone constantly, on 5hrs 12min screen on right now and not one redraw all day.

Couldn't disagree more, I don't get any redraws using checkrom. And when it comes to go launcher, it's probably the most bloated and clunky browser there is albeit highly customizable. Nova and Apex are probably just a good as each other. Touchwiz seems to use less resources than other launchers but it is lacking in features.

To be fair not one re draw from nova as yet. The card scrolling effect of home screens is probably my favourite bit

I don't think so.
The only options would be to flash newer firmware manually with Odin (may our may not help) or use market launcher such as nova or apex. They have option in settings to keep launcher in memory. It can help, but not always prevent launcher getting killed off.

Eclipse 2.3 lag at home screen

Hey all... I'm on eclipse 2.3 using holo launcher plus and I'm experiencing a lot of lag coming out of apps back to the home screen. I've tried going back to the eclipse launcher but having the same issues. Everything worked great for the first few days then started acting up... Any help would greatly be appreciated. Btw, awesome ROM nitro!!!
mightmight want to re-flash i havent had this problem. and this seems like the best eclipse release yet.
Lorenzo may me right, haven't experienced any lag at all with 2.3. Are you running anything extra over top of it?

The only other thing I have installed was the Holo locker... Since uninstalling that things have improved. I'm not sure why but it was using a lot of ram.

Smart Actions type app for S3?

Ok guys, let me start off by saying I am a noob to the S3! I've had it for 2 days now and love most of what I've seen! I am coming from a Motorola Bionic running ICS leak for a while and was pretty spoiled to one little thing! Smart Actions! I really didn't even use it to its full capabilitys! I really miss the most the volume controls! Ringer/notifacation alert volume controls, that is set to a specific timeframe! Like when I'm at work turned down to minimum level and vibrate on. Anyone know of a good EASY TO USE app like that? I've downloaded Llama, just cant quite get it to work right!
Thanks for any help!

Tasker is the king of all Apps. The UI could possibly get a bit overwhelming for not-so technical users. Automate It Pro is a similar app with a much better UI (although it has admittedly lesser number of features than tasker).
I actully found an app that looks like it will work for me! Cronos! It has a Lite and paid verson, I'm using the lite verson now. It's very simple to setup! Closest to "Smart Actions" I have found!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Ok, thought Chronos was going to suit me. But no, has not seemed to work yet. And yes, Tasker is a bit over my head! Think I'll give that Automate It a try.

Ther are a lot of great videos on YouTube showing how to use tasker. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty awesome.

Advice for new OS required

Hi there,
There are mamy different versions of JB and not sure what is best to try first, I'm far to be a nerd but I can follow flashing procedures rigorously, had CM7 previously installed on my HTC.
I like the native version of GB on this phone however the keyboard is sometimes bugging and that can be really annoying.
I have seen there is a version of Android 4 that is espessially designed to preserve the battery, I forgot how its called.. I like this idea.
So if any of you fellows can take a minute and help me to make a good choice that would be ace.
Thanks in advance.
