Hello guyz, I own a sony xperia tablet S and I am streaming HD mkv's from Home NAS, but most videos (both 1080p and 720p) stutter a lot. This can't be a network issue, since my android TV stick (wich is dual core instead of quad core) plays the same files from the same NAS very well (especially the 720p ones).. I play them with MX player (default settings, havent changed anything) through Mizuu..
Does anyone have the same problem?
Thank you

You have the MX player codec for ARM v7 NEON installed right? That might help
Yes i have ARMv7 NEON codec installed (set in Custom codec field)
But still the same stutter..
Do 720p/1080p movies play without problems to you? (network stream)
what should my settings in Decoder Tab (h/w, h/w+, s/w etc.)be in MX Player?
thank you
I use BS player and don't have such issues

I would put it to H/W+. Keep in mind that I have a Tablet S, not an Xperia Tablet S. I haven't tried a network stream before. Do videos run fine from an SD card? 720p runs fine on my tablet through the SD card (class 10 32 GB btw, class 4 is slower, but idk if it would make a difference)

Hi,
on my galaxy tab 10.1v I can not play videos ( mp4,mkv or divx..) corectly. I mean it plays but it freezes for a second and then play on and freezes again... I tried many video players; even mobo player, but it's the same with all. But mp3 plays ok. Tab runs on Honeycomb 3.0.1
maybe with update on 3.1 will be better? Please any suggestions?
Thanks!

What H.264 variant is used in the MP4s? Our devices have issues with high and main profiles. Baseline profile H.264 is solid.
Is variable, but on samsung galaxy s and galaxy s 2 player which is included plays perfectly all formats even full hd ( mkv - music videos ). So why is on galaxy tab dificult to play videos smootly?

Simple. Samsung's GPU that is paired with Hummingbird processors is optimized for media and supports a lot of H.264 features not supported by any other mobile GPU. Nvidia's Tegra GPU is optimized for 3D and not as much for media.
Ok, I solve problem now with Handbrake. Full hd videos ( 1920x1080) convert to 1280x790 without losing quality and now plays just fine.
Yea, Tegra sucks at media play back, course IMO Nvidia sucks in general with there Shady business practices.
But Baseline with 2 Channel AAC Audio is the way to go, won't have any video play back problems that way.
Hey guys I'm currently using MXvideo player and it's pretty decent. I managed to run a 720p mkv video of about 300 mb with Software decoding fast on. On hardware decoding I've not met a video player yet that can handle that and I've tested moboplayer and this one up till now.
Well for the most part the software decoding fast on the Mxvideo player does a pretty decent job but it still kinda lags at times. Anyone found a better solution?
Cheers

vplayer is a lot worse than mobo and mx :-s
I have the old beta version of player it works better than the newer version 0.9.9

use dice player it plays almost all formats
The CPU of Motorola Defy is not strong enough to play H.264 HD videos. Unfortunately according to my experiences, the HW decoding in CM7 on Defy is broken. Until this is fixed, I'm afraid there will be no player capable of playing 720p MKV files correctly.
Rock player lite plays most of the videos. I have played some 720p also.
If you are running the cpu at 1ghz 720p videos should play rather smoothly. Maybe its your sd card thts slowing you down

On a desktop PC, to play H.264 720p video, you need at least 2 GHz CPU. To play 1080p you need 2 GHz dual core CPU and to play 1080p60 movie, you need at least a quad core 2 GHz CPU.
Now add to this the fact, that ARM is slower then x86 at the same frequency and you would need a 3 GHz CPU to play 720p movies without HW acceleration.
if you use GB rom, try diceplyer.
Diceplayer can play mkv with hw decoding.
Mobo player has hard and soft decoding capabilities. It can decode the video, but in general hd videos have hd sounds, that are cpu demmanding. I think that convert HD videos first is a good idea, even when you phone can play it, nobody wants to run out of battary only because of a movie with quality you can not fully enjoy.
Mkv files doesnt work i try Every Video Player in can find but mp4 hd Videos are playable

720 Video Play
I am using WajkIUI 1.9.23 very recent firmware. My Defy is clocked at 1.1GHz and an amount of 150MB free RAM. I played 1280 X 720 .WMA file with 30FPS in QQPlayer and ROCKPlayer both played well. but very little lag.
MX player and dice player play full hd video in cm7
MX player and dice player play full hd video with 5.1ch audio in cm7
anyone tried mobo player .. its pretty cool ...... ~~

Don't know where you got your information bro, but it's def wrong.
I have a dual-core 2GHZ Intel T4200 laptop and i have a mounted a blu-ray player on it for a while now and i can tell you 100% that it plays Full BluRay discs (meaning over 40GB disc) with absolutely no problem in the world.
Vladuu> My information is correct. I know it from many tests I've done. You have 2x2 GHz CPU, that's enough for a blu-ray (1080p, 24fps or 1080i). But your CPU could never play 1080p 60fps movie.
It's also very likely that you have graphics card which in fact does the decoding instead of your CPU.
i use a rom for defy which transplanted from me722. it support 720p decoding, such as rmvb mp4 and mkv. the performance is wonderful

mkv hardware decoded?
Does Xperia S plays DivX/XviD/WMV/MP4 without installing external player from Google Play
I didn't try, but who what's the problem with installing external player ? MX Player is a beast .. it's the VLC for android !
It just plays everything .. !
It does play my divx avi's and mp4 files with the stock player. Don't know about WMV.
If you need an external player I recommend diceplayer which plays everything I have tried.
I really need this info, Because if the stock player plays all these files then there would be no issue in connecting the XPeria S through DLNA
Xperia s supports only h264 mp4 format under hardware acceleration natively.
Wmv,mkv, divx all require external program, and playing any content with 720p and above via software encoding causing lags and audio sync issues. Hope Sony can fix this..I have tried mxplayer, rockplayer etc. with all those problem still persist. I don't have any problem like this with my optimus 3d (wvga) probably Xperia s have hd screen ?
I just made a test and plugged USB stick to my phone
with .avi movie inside, and played it perfectly fine from the XPlore, apparently it was native video player which played it.
I also have a Dice Player which is said to support most formats and play them with hardware support.
The Xperia S also does XviD in .avi containers just fine with the native player. I was quite surprised personally.
BSPlayer is godlike, i think its even better than mx player, thanks if you think so

Yes I can confirm this, my xvid had 5.1 surround sound though, which the Xperia S understandably couldn't play.
is this realy true ?
no player is aviable that supports the Dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore cpu +gpu ?
all players supports only s/w play and this suck already on sd content stream :-(
2x 1,5 gh is not enough ?
tested wit mxplayer and vplayer both supports only arm v7
on hardware decoding i got back a screen
hi,
you need the cinema plugin from the archos homepage. there is a shop where you can download (not free) it.
http://www.archos.com/store/plugsearch.html?prod=archos101g9
(change to your language)
supports hardware acceleration within the native archos video player and is smooth and fast forget sw rendering
with other players. this is the only way to get mpeg + ac3 video and audio in high quality.
if the above link doesnt work try this
https://store.archos.com/plugins.php
Yeah i found this plugin gut i cant buy IT without a credit card
That is a very Bad Situation For me ...
Thanks For ur help
BSPlayer works very well.

THANKS 10000x
u are right ist 90% working with hardware acceleration
only 1080i stream crashes ... now after a short update 1080i stream works also !!!! best player for streaming better than many players that can purchase
I'm checking to see if the snapdragon 800 / adreno 330 at the heart of the xperia Z ultra can playback mkv bluray rips made using makemkv (free while in beta, aka forever) from makemkv.com. (caution resulting file can be 15-30GB)
I'd like to hear if anyone has tried it, either off a SNB (windows) share on a 801.11 N or AC wireless network or right from the microsd card.
The best apps to try for playback are:
bsplayer
Archos Video player (with codec add-on for sound)
VLC nightlys (not available in the play store, google for the apk)
I'm considering getting this phone or another based on the snapdragon 800 and want to know if it can flawlessly playback these files and for bonus points if anyone has successfully been able to output the playback over MHL/HDMI cable to a larger 1080p display.
Thanks!
i play my 1080p Movie mp4 rips and they perform great
tho the video app cant play avi video formats sadly
I use 'dice player' and it works well for mkv file even streaming.

I'm guessing these are re-compressed 1080p movies. I want to know if the phone can handle playback of the actual video streams on the bluray itself. MakeMKV rips the actual video streams and puts them all in a mkv container. The resulting file is often 20-30GB, not the 5-10GB of the 1080p files I'm guessing you tried. BTW, if you try the apps I listed above (diceplayer too as was recommended) you will have no trouble playing back those old AVI files.
720p 10bits mkv ( vlc/mx player) flawless
1080p 10bits mkv( vlc/mx player) flawless
Dvd rip. Iso ( vlc/mx player / base player) vieuweble
Basic 8 gig blouray rip ( vlc / mx / base) lag / crash wen skipping
( alle files alsof played trough a nas (lan)
Will try non compressed. Blouray. Tomorrow

Great testing, looking forward to your results tonight! Is your link speed on wireless close to 300Mbit?
Also, try Archos (google: archos video player apk and Archos Video All Codecs Plugin) and bsplayer are good ones to try.
Great to hear about 10bit 1080p anime releases too!
Thanks a bunch!
Sorry forum the late replay hadden lot of work @ one's
