Hello dear XDA-Community,
The idea of this thread was to serve as an un bricking thread eventually,
I am looking into a riffbox for jtag service, I am approaching xda to see if any users would be interested in helping me cover the cost of said riffbox
if you were to donate towards the cause in return you would receive free unbrick service and jtag service for all your devices as long as the riffbox supports the CPU architecture
If this is of no interested not a big deal i just thought i would give the community a chance to get involved rather than keeping all the cool toys at my house and not sharing
This thread will be the hub for service requests. If you happen to need unbrick service, you will find this thread and us to help you.
I will post a log of all payments made from that money plus all Items received (e.g. the RIFF Box, the cables, Jigs, etc.)
I will also keep an online "work and ticket tracker" so that you can see live reports /pictures of the status of your repairs
now your like ok i didnt donate to help you buy this thingamabobber now i bricked my phone and i dont wanna pay some dude on ebay 60$ to fix it
cool find me post in the thread if your device is supported we can get it unbricked
Please remember i am one man and do have a child so im not planning to support 43000000x users but i dont think it would be bad to offer service to RC's RD's and senior members of xda for no cost of labor just get the unit here and ill jtag it up
RIFF Box - $155 + shipping
Updates / Facts / News:
Some things you might see around the thread
Hope this is gonna be very very educational for people too. Unbricking always is some sort of a mystery for many and if you send off your phone to some stranger on ebay, you usually don't get an idea about the "Hands On" and gettin' dirty bit of tearing down a phone and actually make it look nice and work properly again afterwards.
So, maybe we will even have some photos or videos and stuff and just give you an idea of how that all works...
Please ask your questions
and if your located in the USA and close to me for XDA active members I will always do what I can to help out as XDA has always helped me out
I am not trying to sell jtag service at all guys im saying if we can get me a riffbox ill give xda senior members RD's RC's RT's mods and members with over a 300 post count free jtag service

Thank you for offering up these services to xda members. The riffbox reminds me of a question I asked awhile back that went unanswered as far as I know. Is there virtualization software for android? It would be great for hacking as well as unbricking. If I was an awesome software engineer I would definitely look into making it.
Forgive me if there is something like this already, or the riffbox does just what I'm saying. Just an idea, sorry to semi-derail your thread.

Hi there,
I'm new to xda, I didn't realize the amount of android support that's out there. I just recently "bricked" my daughter's HTC Amaze. I was trying to install an updated CM9 and it keeps hanging in the splash screen. I tried different versions of the rom with no luck. Also, I use Team Win v2.1.0 for recovery and the phone is unlocked with S-ON. How do I acquire your services? Thank you! :good:

Sounds like you have a soft brick
Remove the battery hold vol down and replace battery while still holding vol down
Press the power button while still holding volume down
You should be in the boatloader
Use the volume rocker to highlight recovery and hit power to select it
Then reflash Rom following the procedure outlined in the Roms op
If that doesn't suffice then 're lock the device and run an RUU unlock and try to reflash the ROM
If you can't get bootloader then you might have an issue and we can discuss servicing the device but right now it sounds like something you can fix without having to dis assemble the phone

Hi Zarboz,
I appreciate your prompt reply. I am able to get into the bootloader (HBOOT 1.93 S-ON) and from there go to recovery (Team Win 2.1.0) and I have tried full wipes and reinstalled all types and versions of the CM9 rom and even tried CM10 for good measure; also, ViperA 1.6.9 rom. It stays in the splash screen and I've tried to leave it alone for several hours with no luck. I've rebooted it and reinstalled so many times I've lost count; stuck in the splash screen. Browsing through the web I heard the problem may be the S-On/S-Off, etc. However, the procedures for it either seems that I need to be booted into phone or using some kind of "wire trick" method (that is beyond my technical skills, lol). The phone is unlocked via the HTCDEV. I hope it is a "soft brick" but I just don't know what to do at this point. Please help!
I appreciate your time and I look forward to your additional guidance. Thanks again! :crying:

Hey all...I'm VERY new to all of this rooting stuff...still reading about it and I can't seem to wrap my head around it....Not sure if I'd be crossing a line by asking this, but here it goes....are there people on here that would actually root a phone for someone if they (ie..me) are to stupid to do so?
Of course there would be compensation involved.
Thanks for any info!!!
If you are new to the point that you are not comfortable following the steps needed to root your phone then I would say that you should not be worrying about rooting your phone at this point.
Why do I say this? It is because you will want to flash a myriad of Roms after your phone is rooted, which I guarantee will cause issues that you will not be able to figure out on your own.
You also need to ask yourself what it is that you hope to gain from rooting your phone. The stock Thunderbolt has bloat no doubt, but it is generally compatible with apps and is about to receive the Gingerbread OTA (non-root users theorize) fairly soon.
What do you want that can only be accomplished by rooting your phone at this point? If you cannot answer that question, then I hope you will take my advice and do some reading on this site, and one or two other sites, until you are ready to root your phone without paying someone to do it for you.
One other thing. Please do not create posts asking about the proverbial 'Best Rom'. There is no such thing.
Just my .02 cents!
I appreciate the info....Thanks!!!

You're very welcome. I hope that I did not scare you off of rooting, but it is something that should not be done without some careful thought before hand.
For $100 I'll root your phone.

I've rooted several devices for friends that have no intention of using clockworkmod. They simply want the advantages of root and to run a new ROM like CM7. I'd be happy to do it for money, and I don't think the end user of a rooted devices needs to know jack about it rooting it to enjoy the benefits. In short, I'm happy to root a device for someone as long as I know they aren't going to get in there and brick the thing somehow and come to me to fix it like it's my problem. Most people are decent enough to do that.
if you look online(or in your local yellow pages), you can find shops locally that will fix, root, etc your cell phone.
just here in San Diego there's about a dozen places that offer these services.
although i will tell you... the first time you figure out you have a problem with your carb and it's bad enough that you can't drive your car... then a "friend" tells you, just bring the carb over here & we'll fix it for you... then you're just standing there looking at the carb and thinking "uhhh..."
now that's rooting a phone x 10 difficultly.
I'll do it for free, teach you how i did it, and give you the basic knowledge of how not to brick. Where are you located?

I didn't have anybody to guide me when i first started and i know how frustrating it can be. And you never know, he may be the next great developer with the right start. I have been the "tech support" for my entire family who I converted to android. It would be nice to teach someone who will want to learn as opposed to my family who just says here you do it...
And you are right on the money when you say ppl who use Th3orys roms are nice and helpful. I have learned a great deal from that community.
I am not a dev, just someone who knows how to implement the awesome features created by the community here at XDA.

Dang if I was near my laptop which my dad has webx on I would do it for you. I have rooted a bunch of phones for friends and family and I find it especially fun teaching them what root, roms, etc. can help them achieve. Today I rooted my friends sensation so he would have the sensation xe (beats audio) options and speed. If you feel that your stock phone seems slow rooting, overclocking and debloating or changing the ROM can definitely help you!

I would do it for 30 and make sure your phone gets back to you with lots of extra programs you will need. Plus 5 bucks shipping back.

I am always down to donate when someone makes something I want or feel is enough of a benefit to everyone, I don't really feel the same if I am basically paying someone ahead of time to "try" and do something. It its called a donation because it its voluntary and all dev its done with no warranty, if you brick your phone it's on you.

I dont think you understand what a bounty is or just looking for something to complain about.... It is paying for something you want before you get it.... I am not asking for anything nor is the atrix team. He stated they would need a phone to properly port and test it for us. We must realize that I went seeking them not them just porting on their own free will.

A bounty is usually applied AFTER service is complete. You don't see bounty hunters getting paid BEFORE they bring the guy in...
boun·ty /ˈbaʊnti/ Show Spelled[boun-tee] Show IPA
noun, plural -ties.
1. a premium or reward, especially one offered by a government: There was a bounty on his head. Some states offer a bounty for dead coyotes.
Why would we pay him before he does something when someone else could potentially do this before him? Appreciate what you are trying to do and when we get CM7, you'll see my $10.

I would just ask if you guys would look around the site. Most device dev section have a bounty thread for something someone wants and doesnt mind paying for it or paying for the tools the dev needs to start.
This thread was not about giving money to anyone for producing cm7 but helping the atrix team get a photon, so they could port cm7. As I stated before this thread can die since rinehart said he was porting it and had the phone already.
To All, Let's get clear what kind of bounty thread is acceptable and what is not :
A bounty thread that is posted for anyone to claim should they solve a problem or provide a fix is Acceptable.
A bounty thread like this which is to provide a person money or specific team money...etc IS NOT ACCEPTABLE........
THEREFORE...... THIS IS CLOSED AND DO NOT POST A BOUNTY LIKE THIS AGAIN......
THANK YOU ••• MODERATORS
I used the T989 (S2 for T-Mobile) before switching to the note and I must say that his guy is one of a kind and would be a great asset to the i717 dev community.
His T988 ROM (Darkside) is very popular as well as his kernel (Darkside Kernel). Used by 7+ different roms.
I managed to talk to him via PM about helping us out and would contribute if only he had the device.
I will be collecting the funds on his behalf and paying the rest needed for the device within a week or two tops so he can start developing
He's a great guy so please let's not piss him off with ETAs and unnecessary requests.
Lets set our goal at $750 for a new one from Bestbuy or $550 used from craigslist/ebay.
I'll start the bounty with $50 and will pay for the rest for a device after two weeks tops.

First off, no disrespect for you in this post, thederekjay, don't know your work, I'm sure you're great.
But OP, your thread title is disrespectful to the devs working on the Note today. Just because you have a favorite dev/rom on another phone/etc, doesn't mean you should post with that sort of slant. Devs are taking enough crap here lately for no reason.

He has created some amazing roms/kernels/tools for the t989.

Good luck...I had a troll get the bounty someone set for me, deleted...

It doesnt matter how the money is received IMO. As long as donations are for a good cause (Hence Getting TDJ here) then it shouldnt be a problem. People get burned everyday with money, people donate to even "greater real world causes" and get burned, its the way it is, not saying that thats how it should be.
I had no intentions on development for this phone until yesterday night when a few guys insisted that they wanted me to dev for it. They started a bounty the same as this one. I didnt have anything to do with what happened to you all with these other guys that came in and did nothing "per say", so it was not fair at all for my thread to get deleted, nor trolled. I thought the rules were "A dev couldnt ask for money to get his/her a device"
But anyways, im donating 10$ to TDJ Because he is loyal and he works very hard, i have much respect for the man. His Rom was very great, not to mention I even used his kernel and advertised his super wipe script in both of my ROM threads.
Last time im gonna be here...Good luck TDJ

But anyways, im donating 10$ to TDJ Because he is loyal and he works very hard, i have much respect for the man. His Rom was very great, not to mention I even used his kernel and advertised his super wipe script in both of my ROM threads.
Last time im gonna be here...Good luck TDJ

No need to add my name to the list. I just want this phone in more dev's hands. This is by far the best phone I have ever had and we need more dev's on this platform.
This phone is why I don't use my tablet anymore. Makes you think about why apple doesn't want a phone with a larger screen.

Halfcab was to root our phone - a simple process according to them. in 3 days they have managed to brick one of our phone and then not properly root the second. Now it is working very poorly. now they have blocked our emails and will not respond to us. According to them a simple download is needed so why are they not responding. Avoid as you probably will not get what you pay for.
Better taking the advice and know how from the xda site, rather than some dodgy phone guys...

They are ADX Developers. They never had possession of our phone. Any paid to have it rooted because we honestly don't know how to root the phone. We open to suggestions.
We just wanted a simple root but they have messed up. We were naive I guess.
correction: these guys are XDA developers.
They work under different names and email addresses so watch out.

Are you sure it's bricked? You can't get into recovery or use adb?
Personally, I wouldn't let someone I've never met remotely flash my several-hundred-dollar phone (if that's how it was done). But that's just me.

I would let the unlimited.io crew or con247 toy around with mine remotely; such has been done during the initial release of the JuopunutBear S-off method. But only because I have observed them to be legitimate developers seeking to better user experiences and knowledge for knowledge's sake. Definitely not some random XDA reader with a website storefront and access to other people's ROMs and tools.
Edit: read the post below this one. Then read it again; it pretty much sums up the situation.
I a firm believer that if you can't root your own device, you should be stock... Hell I'm even against the one click root utilizes for inexperienced users.. part of having root is the understanding that you are now tech support..the only way your going to learn is to do it the hard way. Not by plugging in and clicking root... Ever notice on any forum for a phone with a one click, there's a ton of "help I'm bricked" threads... Funny thing is you never see these before one click is available...kinda hard to become tech support if you have zero knowledge of what a Linux OS is and how to move around with terminal..
Basically I almost don't feel bad for the scam, shoulda took the time to learn what's involved with being rooted...sorry

that sucks...but it honestly is partially your fault...i cant rembember the last time i handed someone money or bought somthing without doing research...google is your friend ...if you would have done research you would have realized you were getting a kick in the nuts for 60 bucks...take it as a lesson...

So, I am new to rooting and kind of worried about rooting and worried about screwing up my device. I found this on google and the youtube reviews seems pretty legit. Anyone here try it before, I make the jump? Thanks a dollar. http://www.halfcab123.com/

There are lots of guides here on the forums that will walk you through the process. We were all noobies at one point in tome and there's lots to be learned from one another.
Just read everything over a few times before you try anything. And if you get stuck, just ask for help everyone here is very helpful.
Hope this helps.

Honestly it's not as horrifying as some may think. It's quite simple. Just read the guides and make sure you have everything you need at your fingertips. It would be good for you to learn since you will be flashing roms and such. It's almost like shaking hands and saying hello to your phone. (lol)
Just stay s-on until you get comfortable flashing and its virtually impossible to hard brick your phone.
Search and read...

Or just never S-OFF. I never did, and have been doing great with ROMs and kernels.
Also, to the OP, just do it yourself. It's a valuable lesson in not wasting money, and you learn something new.

Chad himself is even very against s-offing. Fastboot doesn't really take that long, but I do most of my flashing away from the computer. To each their own I suppose. (I'm s-off btw)

Agreed with everyone man.. Im by no means dev, or even a themer just a user but just simply reading and chatting with people on the forums being polite will get you along way.. if there's anything your wanting to learn I'm always available to simply chat to, like I said I'm no one special but I know the simple things, flashing, fastboot commands, I can even walk you thru simply rooting or going the whole nine yards with the s-off thing.. I do promis you tho in the end any thing you learn will be useful in the future.. you'll always wanna flash a new Rom, or kernel, or even a new mod for sense 4.x you like.. but, YOU will wanna be the one to do it not send it in again, or something silly like that.. my gtalk [email protected]. But my advice is always read, search and read some more.. and if you still can't find what your looking for ask a questio. Good luck bro.

I was unsuccessful with getting S-Off on my phone (about 120-ish attempts) so I just use an app called HTC dumlock. It works by copying my recovery to my boot partition and booting to that. It allows me to flash kernels as if I had S-Off. The only disadvantage is that it's an app and does require a working ROM so a borked flash means I have to fall back to fastboot.

First, for them to root your phone remotely you'd have to give them remote access to your pc. No way I'd trust these clowns with that.
Second, rooting the phone is easy, all you really need to do is get your unlock code from HTC and follow the instructions here on XDA. It's really easy and there are a lot of people here who will help if you need it. The only really tricky thing is s-off, and they can't help you with that remotely since it requires access to your phone.
Now, if you're new to rooting you probably shouldn't go s-off just yet anyway, but that's another topic altogether. Regardless, if these guys root your phone you'll be s-on. The extra steps for s-on flashing aren't difficult, but unless you want to pay them to flash every rom you try you need to learn how to do it yourself. I don't know about everyone else, but I go through phases where I'll change roms several times a week or even daily just to try stuff out.
Third, these halfcab guys are selling other people's roms. Under terms of open source that isn't illegal, but that doesn't make it right. You can download them for free and if anyone deserves money for a rom its the dev who worked on it. They'll take donations! (I think I even saw where halfcab was selling unlock codes. HTC would probably take issue with that.)
Fourth, they're selling WiFi tether. Again, it's free to download. Most ROMS come with it anyway.
So short answer to the OP is no, it isn't legit. It's a ripoff and could leave you with major headaches if you don't learn how to do this stuff yourself anyway. It certainly won't be as convenient as it may sound.

Please don't support someone who sells someone else's work as their own. There may be no law against it, but that doesn't make it right.
And no, rooting / s-offing your phone isn't easy the first time, but you can do it if you read and then ask questions like everyone else has said.
If you're that interested in rooting, you'll be glad you learned to do it yourself.

Don't pay people to do it, you'll be calling them weekly on how to fix stuff. You need to know how to look at an issue solve it and perform the steps necessary to keeping the device going smoothly. If you don't learn the terminology and what each thing does you will be lost forever. I did it for my brother and I get calls all them time How do i do this? its terrible. If your not willing to put some time into it then like they said buy an Iphone. Once you learn though its exciting and fun and its a community everyone here wants more people to learn it makes the platform great.
