Google Hangouts (Talk) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Anyone tried this out yet? You guys liking it?
I hate the fact that I can't see whether a contact is online or not.
Does anyone know if someone could make a modded apk that would shown if someone is online?

Haha no. But seriously that app is worthless until somebody figures out how to show availability of a contact.

Yeah, I'm not ok with it so far. I still have the talk.apk on my sdcard for/if I want to go back.
I'm sure they'll make it baller status soon. I trust in El Goog

What do you mean baller status?
I like the app. It has very smooth interface and let's you have more emoji and also tells you when other person is typing.
If they would have kept the online availability option they would be getting 4+ stars rating easily on play store.

Online status and horrible contacts management. Needs SMS as well.
Once they fix those issues, will be better than Talk, but right now I prefer Talk.

Go to store and search for hangouts. If it says 'open' like it's installed, try it. It may not open - didn't for me. I'm on Beans 16. I used root explorer and moved talk from system/apps to my sdcard. Rebooted and installed hangouts.

But you still won't be able to see if the other person is Away(orange) or Online online(green). That feature right there is what made Talk for me a bomb. And I use Talk like almost a substitute for SMS since all my friends have smartphones.

In the contacts page, he is correct. The person's picture dims. But within a hangout, it doesn't show you. It used to have a message telling you they were offline. Now it just tells you up to which point they have read.

I forgot to make a backup of my talk app. boo me. I'm sure I will get used to this app, as I do almost every google app. But sometimes, just sometimes, I just wish they'd leave well enough alone.

Nope still wrong. I checked that out too. I still had contacts that were offline but still had their picture not dimmed. Some were dimmed tho and they were offline. This doesn't work for every contact.

[Q] Why isn't phone announcing callers?

I noticed today that my SGSII no longer tells me who's calling. I don't know when it stopped doing it so I can't trace it back to something I did or installed. I know it was doing it, but not what app or process is responsible for it or why it no longer does. I remember there was a setting choice on whether to do this, but I can't find it nor did I turn it off. I'm guessing maybe Juice Defender or some other app may be inhibiting it. Any clues?
Do you mean callerid? CityID does that, but i think it is trial or something. Try TrueCaller, it is free from their website.

I've been reading this forum for the past 3 weeks and learning from the great minds here. Glad I was finally able to provide some helpful information.
-rip
Posting the APK is great, but the question remains; why is it not visible in the market for the AT&T Note? I've had several examples of apps recently that I was surprised are not available in the market.
Car Home - Although theories that this is filtered on the carrier or Samsung level
Euphoria - Live wallpaper! Nothing fancy, and works fine from apk
Bah, I had one more... Not remembering it offhand.. None of the ones I've seen are for a higher SDK, as I've sideloaded all of them fine.. But why? I wish the market gave the reason an app was "incompatible". But I suppose "Carrier restricted" would have people raging.
The Groupon app is in the Google Play market, it just isn't compatible with the I717 GNote. I sent Groupon an email and they responded saying they are working to make the app compatible. Who knows when that will be though?

I really wish we had visibility to why this app is missing, it doesn't make any sense.. It is "compatible" with my other two phones and two tablets, but not the Note??
I was going to download the official TED app tonight, but guess what, also not compatible. Nonsense.
I wonder if it's the DPI or screen size? I know some apps do filter based on DPI.
Something is actually different with the app too...I don't think it displays my groupons

Roam Control options???

I noticed that the "Roam Control" app does not work for the SIII. I cam from an EVO 3D using "MeanROM" and he had 'Roam Only' built in and it came in VERY HANDY. If you are on the fringe of Sprint, you can switch to 'Roam Only' and it will lock on the roaming partner in the area and most of the work much better.
Anyone have a solution for this on the SIII ??

screw prl edits... I've been attempting this mod over and over on galaxy s phones since the og epic. lol
Problem being, is that the smali looks nothing like the EVO's, or any HTC phone for that matter. HTC either built in, or didn't remove the methods used to switch roam only on or off. I have a feeling i might be persisitant enought this time around (now that i own the phone i'm dev'ing on) to get the job done. As i've also found Roam control not to be working here. We'll see how it goes. Keep your eyes peeled. This is def a mod i want to bring over to the G series
Oh yeah... you're def on the wrong section. This is a Q&A post for sure. lol

As with all other cautions, roam only when necessary and use Sprint or Wifi for major downloads. Abusing Sprint's roam agreement can get you terminated. Apparently 300MB per month or so brings your account to their attention.
If you force a Verizon PRL, simply update your PRL normally to return to Sprint.
AS A NOTE: This is a Question. It belongs in the Q&A. No doubt it will be moved shortly. That little sticky thread labeled "READ THIS FIRST - Development Rules" clearly dictates what is allowed in the development forum.

Google Now rarely responds.

I don't know if this is better suited in the Jellybean thread, but I'd hate to see this drowned among the 100's of posts every day in that thread.
I am Swedish, but I've set everything possible to English (US) and to use Google.com instead of Google.se and to always speak back, yet it rarely does. It also completely ignores statements and only googles them. LIke if I say: "I can count to potato", it searches the web for it rather than throwing me a sassy comeback or whatever.
Google now only gives back useful information .. no jokes and useless chats.

Try vlingo or just use s-voice (based on vlingo like siri).

Verizon is selling your browsing history to marketers

I read somewhere that verizon is selling our browsing history. So I decided to call them up and ask to opt out. They are actually doing this. Seriously. I cussed him out until he hung up on me. I am no where close to being done. I would call up and complain about this. This is an invasion of privacy.

I don't think they could do this without a change in their privacy policy... I haven't received any notification of a change in the policy for years that I remember, however sometimes I just chuck that stuff in file 13 if I see it. If such a change came out, it would cause a huge stir in the online community, and I haven't seen any such thing.

Does Verizon use software installed on handsets to collect this information, or do they collect it externally by inspecting the traffic going across their network?
If they are installing software on our phones... well thats bad and shouldn't be allowed to happen.
If they are using equipment on their own network to inspect traffic... well, we can't do anything about that other than switch to a different service provider. It's their network afterall..
This is like CarrierIQ. That junk was everywhere and as soon as consumers found out, Verizon and a bunch of other networks got hit hard.
I don't think they would make that mistake again (I am giving them a lot of credit here).
It just makes me mad whenever they think that they can just go on our phones. Internet history is private property, and they shouldn't be snooping in it.
