So like, i'm pretty confused. I know I have to use custom recovery to flash a ROM. And I know I have to root to install custom recovery. But some other places I read, they install custom recovery before rooting. So yes. Very confused. I'm even confused over the fact if I have to be rooted for me to flash a ROM. Do I have to? Thanks in advance for the help.
You do not need to root to flash a ROM (custom or stock).
Read the FAQ guides here in the Q&A section and you will know more .

last i have rooted Galaxy Spica 5700, but it required flashing device with Odin and instillation of a new kernel. But it seems like many new things have came up. Can someone please post me Point by point procedure of rooting my device with ClockworkMod recovery.
Plenty of threads that answer this question in detail. No need for people to duplicate topics or answers.

If you know how to flash kernels via odin its simple. Just download siyah kernel for i9100 , install the drivers required fr odin , flash the kernel in download mode. It will give you rot access and CWM recovery. Then yo can boot into recovery, wipe data/cache and install any rom you want. But do not wipe anything n stock recovery since you are on 4.0.4 (which has the brick bug)
you can also root by stock recovery just by flashing a single .zip file. But if you know the way to do it by odin i suggest the odin mehtod.
and to flash JB....MobileOdin Pro.......so you'll forget about rooting with the EverRoot option........................beware of the wipes with 4.0.4 tho, that crap is nasty.
hey guys,
So I decided to install a custom rom and as I understand I need to root the phone and install a custom recovery but I don't want to brick my phone.
When I searched for how to do that for the alpha I found several methods like kingroot and ODIN.
I installed G850FXXU1COI1 manually using ODIN.
My question is what is the surest way to root and install a recovery for the alpha (850F model) ?
First of all, what is your galaxy alpha model, and yes, the first step is to install root app like super su, then you can look for custom recovery that is the most essential tool for installing custom rom.

It's the 850F model.
And mentioning the root, does the phone stay rooted even after installing a new rom ?
UP!
150 members saw this thread and not one of them has rooted his phone before ?!!
If I remember correctly:
- First instal twrp http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...overy-openrecovery-twrp-2-8-sm-g850f-t2931017
- root with chainfire autoroot https://download.chainfire.eu/529/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-slte-sltexx-smg850f.zip
- now you can install a custom rom
Good luck
Greetings.
So I've just got my hands on this device. Model number is i9100, android version is 4.1.2 and it's not rooted. I've previously owned Nexus devices which are pretty straightforward regarding using custom ROMs - you would reboot to bootloader and enter "fastboot oem unlock", flash a recovery and start flashing ROMs. As this is a completely new device to me, can you guide me through what exactly do I need to do to flash custom ROMs on this device? I've seen a lot of resources on this matter, can you link me the best guide out there regarding this? Which is the best recovery? Which is the overall best custom ROM in terms of stability, performance and battery life etc.? Also, is there a guide for flashing stock ROMs? Additionally, I've seen some jigusb thing here. Will I need it to for rooting /unlocking bootloader/flashing recoveries and custom ROMs?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the S2 community,
First thing you need to do is get your phone rooted.
This can be done by flashing Philz kernel via ODIN in the link below.:
Philz Kernel
There are instructions on which one to flash.
Once done, I will need to know what android version you are most interested in. If you want pure stability, you can try slimsaber 4.4.4 by fusionjack here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/rom-slimsaber-i9100-t2350201 or if you want android marshmallow, you will need to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...es/guide-want-to-update-to-cm13-read-t3313978
If you wanted to flash android lollipop or newer, you need to change your system partition sizes in order to flash Gapps (google apps) where this step was included in my CM13 upgrade guide. This can be done either using my guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ivatives/mod-increase-partition-size-t3011162 or lanchon's tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/tool-lanchon-repit-data-sparing-t3358036
Let me know if you need any help,
Saber
Thank you very much. If any additional questions pop up, I'll be sure to contact you via PM.
Searching since yesterday and proceeding ahead is making me confused..
Few Procedures I understood some were confusing, here are my questions.
My Phone details: Check attached hardware details, image format too please.
Unlocked bootloader, yesterday, THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL XDA USERS.
1. Should i proceed with twrp + root 1 click, its way to easy and no confusions here.
.2. Should i proceed with magisk, Since on stock rom and just unlocked bootloader, unsure how to proceed here..
Please guide on best option, after doing this bit work, I have many purchased apps (thanks to XDA TEAM and all contributors) which I shall try on phone..
If satisfied, or wanna try custom ROMs, I will make another question..
Thanks and appreciate the volutary hard work of this great community.

Flash Twrp then Flash A Custom rom assuming you've unlocked bootloader to flash a custom rom then gapps then flash magisk

@jcadduono
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to customizing my phone via recovery and stuff. I know the basic stuff so as to how to install custom ROMs or gaining root access.
I know that LazyFlasher is needed if you're going to flash MIUI after installing TWRP.
But I'm looking for answers to these questions:
Difference between lazyflasher-no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip, no-verity-opt-encrypt and no-verity-force-encrypt. (If there is any other variant then please include that in your answer)
Can I flash any version on any device when it is needed or is it device specific?
Is there any official website?
When to flash the file?
I own multiple Xiaomi devices so answers to these questions will be helpful.
