[Q] Which cyanogenmod and gapps to get? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a galaxy s3 with 4.1.2 android. I stumbled upon cyanogenmod and saw the latest version of 10.1 and beside it says 4.2.2. Does it mean I can't use it cause it's not compatible or does it mean it updates my device to 4.2.2 alongside cyanogenmod being installed? Sorry, flashing noob here.

If You flash cm10.1, you'll be on android 4.2.2 . It will have everything from 4.2.2 and some good mods done by the Cyanogenmod team.

You're confused.
Firstly, Android is a free OS that carriers/developers can use. What your referring to as "newly official released 4.1.2 Jelly Bean" is simply Samsung using a version of Android OS and then adding their software/tweaks to it. They happen to have used v4.1.2 of Android for their latest release.
Latest version of Android is v4.2.1 which is what Cyanogenmod is based on.
CM looks more like real stock Android whereas Samsung rom has a completely different UI experience as it uses its own TouchWiz UI.
If you want to know differences try them.

CyanogenMod 11 ROM working on S5839i?
Hi!
I'm a bit unexperienced, and not sure about the differences among the S583xx models.
I have a S5839i which is still running Android Gingerbread 2.3, however quite badly (e.g. some calls do not show up).
So I'd like to update it to Android Kitkat 4.4.
For the S5380 I found the following manual:
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/update-gala...nstall-1430916
However, I am not sure if the CyanogenMod 11 is compatible with my model.
On the release note http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2587481 , it is stated:
So no idea, if this includes my model (is the S5839I as sub-model of S5830I?)
If so, is there any other way to update my phone to Android Kitkat 4.4? If not, is an update to Android 4.3, Jelly Bean possible?
Thx a lot!

My Galaxy Grand Duos Won't Boot

Hi, this is my first post, so if I am posting in the wrong section, please tell me so. I have a Galaxy grand Duos, it had Android 4.1.2 (stock) and I wanted to upgrade it to Android KitKat (4.4) so I rooted it and I upgraded first to 4.2.2 using RR (Resurrection ROM) and it worked flawlessly then I used CM 11.0, I flashed CM 11.0 (the ROM) and gapps, but now it just won't boot, it's stuck at the Galaxy Grand Duos logo and it just won't go to the main screen or anything, did I brick it or what?
Yes, when it stucks in manufacturer logo it's because it simply cannot initialize correctly, any system file can cause that, or any rom

Thanks for the reply, but actually, you added nothing. Obviously, it cannot initialize correctly and I know the ROM was the cause, I just need a fix for it.

Actually I answered your question. But, to fix this you have to re-flash CM, or another rom with CWM...

Actually, I re-flashed CM many times, but still no avail. I flashed Resurrection Remix with CWM and then CM 11.0 with CWM also, the same version. Should I've used another version for flashing CM 11.0 as it upgrades to 4.4 unlike the RR which upgrades to 4.2?
