If you install stock version from sammobile with odin it formats everything and puts stock kernel and stock rom , un-rooted it should work

Advices from SamMobile
- Please use Samsung KIES or OTA updates! (Over the air)
- Use SamMobile firmware page only if you are 100% sure what you are doing!

Flash your stock 2.3.6 xwlc2 stock rom simply via odin. Or if u want a faster method, just go to privacy and hit factory reset. It will be as good as new. Backup your data before doing it though as you will loose data.

2. To have a permanent CWM recovery, just flash a custom GT I9100 kernel

Then just flash a custom kernel, Siyah, Dorimanx or Speedmod via the temporary CWM recovery
These kernels have permanent CWM recovery
After flashing, reboot your phone back to recovery
Perform a ROM backup in CWM recovery

Just flash Siyah kernel 4.1.2 (download the zip format) via the temporary CWM recovery. It will give a permanent CWM recovery, and it's 100% compatible with your phone (GT I9100M).

1. You will not lose anything if you flash kernel. Flashing kernel will never delete data. Everything remains intact.
2. You will receive alerts when updates are available etc. And you can also flash them even before it becomes available for your region.
If you are still skeptical about flashing the custom kernel, and only want clockwork mod recovery, then, don't flash anything, you will be fine with a temporary CWM recovery which you already have

There is no need to be updating the kernel very often, except,

-or the update is a major release

So, another newbie question: what is the point of flashing *JUST* the kernel? Is it just to get the permanent CWM and do backup/restore of my full un-rooted ROM?
I realize that once I have the new kernel I can flash any ROM I want (as long as it's compatible), but if that's all I wanted to do, I can just install a temporary CWM right?
Finally, if I install the siyah 4.1.4 (latest), will anything be broken (ie. bluetooth, camera, etc)? If so, why would I do this?

1. Custom Kernel
- to have a CWM CWM recovery.
- better backup and restore process
- More customizable options
- bugs and battery hog fixes, thus better battery life.
- optimized performance
- flashing other Roms with breeze
If you ever wish to restore your original unrooted firmware, it's better to flash it via Odin.
2.
- If you flash Siyah kernel nothing will be broken.
- If you are on ICS 4.0.3 firmware, Siyah 3.5.2, if you are on 4.0.4, then flash Siyah 4.x.x

I am on ICS 4.0.3 (i9100M) but why do I need to stick to the lower version of Siyah? Siyah 4.0.1 says, in the changelog, "supports Samsung 4.0.3/4.0.4 ".
If I wanted Siyah 4.1.4, you're saying I need to upgrade my S2 to 4.0.4 and THEN move to Siyah 4.1.4?
Thanks for your advice!!!

I was saying, Siyah 3.x.x works much better than Siyah 4.x.x on ICS 4.0.3.
You can still flash 4.x.x to see for yourself, but I will advise you to have a copy of 3.5.2 incase it doesn't work that well for you.

Siyah or CF-root kernel?

Hi XDA-friends,
I have the ICS 4.0.3 and will update on stock 4.0.4 XWLPX.
Should I root my phone with Siyah kernel v4.1.4 or with CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_LPX-v5.6-CWM5 ??
Also I would like to know can I use with S2 the new Odin 3.07 or just Odin 1.85 ?
Thanks in advice
Siyah, because you will have more features.
And it doesn't matter which version of Odin will you use. Only important thing is that Odin should be for SII.
I personally use Siyah, mainly for the dual boot facility. However, as compared to other kernels like CF,dorimanx etc it is a little more power hungry. So if battery life is important to you, you might want to choose another kernel. Like the xda mantra goes, theres no best ROM/Kernel etc. try it out and see whats best for you based on what you want from it.
I would say Siyah which has more features .. And Siyah never disappointed nobody ! it's very easy to tweaks, and it run smooth !
Siyah is lot of feature...and you can dual boot jelly bean and ics..

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I will try then with siyah kernel.
But which Odin version should I use, the new Odin 3.07 or old Odin 1.85 ?
Thanks
I use the new odin for all my flash, all works without any problem !
Use odin3 1.85
Or Google
Which Odin is Compatible with SGS II

Do not root with cf-root! All 4.0.4 kernels have the mmc-superbrick-bug, and if you wipe from the recovery which comes with cf-root, you will get a hardbrick. Siyah is safe.

Error status code 7 when flashing ROMs usually means the install script failed an assert when trying to determine if you have the correct model of phone that the ROM is intended for.
Where did you download the copy of CM10.1 from? Are you sure that it is for your model of phone? According to your signature, you have an I9100. Are you sure you didn't download CM10.1 for I9100G, for example?

To flash other custom roms you will need to change kernel back to a previous ICS or JB kernel like Siyah.

Are you kidding me? I don't mind helping people out but I am starting to think you are just stuffing around.
I asked for the exact error you were getting what is the actual status number being displayed when you try and flash?
Sent from my PACman GT-I9100 using xda premium
Are you serious?
I had tried ReVolt ROM just yesterday and then i went on flashing another ROM through CWM Recovery just fine!
Do you have the file on internal (or external) sd card?
Can you first of all access CWM?!
Did you make a full wipe? (data/cache/dalvik cache)
Did you try the correct file?
You're not even giving us anything to go on. You're lucky to have experienced users try to give you answers, but still none can answer correctly since you don't even have (or don't give) a full image of your situation.
Had it been other users, this post had already been lost.
SO think about what you have, and give us anything that could make us help you easier!
Folks, it's fairly apparent what's going on here. In the absence of anything to the contrary, don't feed the troll etc etc.
