I've been looking though all different ROM's and still can't see one with a working camera. I'd prefer 4.2.2, but will go with 4.2.1, 4.1.x and even 4.0.x if needed. I just need a stable, FAST build with a working camera.
Thank you in advance.

Seems like developers' interest to G Tablet (and to most of old devices) is cooling down day by day. And we ain't gonna get 4.x with working cameras ever.
I tried lots of ROMs and for everyday use (at work and home) stopped at CyanogenMod7.2.0-RC0 BUILD98 REPACK | GTablet | 2.3.7 GWK74 (see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144847 ) with some build.prop tweaks. Not the best ROM ever built, but much better than others. Skype works fine, office software, too, children play some games, bla-bla-bla... The only issue is SOD time to time, mostly after leaving the tab charging for all night long. In the rest - fast and stable enough.
Even when working, the camera itself is so poor that its not really useful for much. However, a hi-def usb webcam works fine with Dirty Bean and gives you a great picture.

The GoogleNow ICS project is currently pretty stable with version "M6" and you can use it on even the stock ROM (root).
Does this negate from your anxiousness to update to Jellybean? Or are you looking more forward to performance features?
It's holding me over until Cm10 is finished

If you have Jellybean on another device (like myself), then I'd have to say the consensus would be 'no, it's not "enough"'. Not everyone will react this way to my upcoming point but being a PC gamer and being used to super smooth transitions/FPS is very eye sensitive and non-smooth animations hurt my eyes at times. Project Butter is everything they said it will be and more. The smoothness doesn't end within Google Apps/Android OS. It's universal. Everything is ... well... buttery smooth. It's awesome but it's something you have to experience first hand to appreciate.
Also, notifications (while not all apps are taking advantage of this atm) are awesome. Being able to read my emails without having to open Gmail for a quick summary is great. All around small updates that make a huge difference. Bottom line: if you're not yet using Jellybean, you'll be fine. If you have experienced the different smaller update flavors that the jelly beans offer, it will suck for a little bit.
For those not aware that we have a fully working version of Now, download it here (get the M6 version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29756226&postcount=2856
Or watch a video of myself sucking at impromptu talking while filming something late at night and showing off how fully Now is working next to a Jellybean device:
Yes. To me, GoogleNow is actually the least attractive part of jellybean, and my current plan is actually to fully disable it when we get the jb update.
I just want it for the newness & also because I don't have it yet.
I'm pretty satisfied though.
Is there a jelly bean 4.2 ROM for the atrix 4G?

The latest I believe is 4.1.2 and I'd recommend EPinter. He is really good about keeping his releases up-to-date. (weekly updates if not multiple updates) I have used his ROM as my daily for a long. Stable as a rock, even without HWA, his rom is smooth and pleasant to use.
Also, I believe most of the Atrix developers and users are concerned with a better kernel than newer releases with broken libs and HWA.
Edit: If all you want are the keyboard and camera from 4.2, they have been ported and work with Epinter's rom.
Keyboard bug
Sorry but 4.2 keyboard hides when longpress erase key :/ i don't know how, but it simply hides like a bug...i will try with otrher lenguajes since i use spanish. do you know if it was actually ported to spinter?

it's been a while since i updated my rom (or been on this forum) and am curious what works best. i am more concerned about everything being buttery smooth than having the latest and greatest from aokp or cm. however if one or the other of those is running well i'd love to do that. so yeah, what are you guys using these days and how is it treating you?

Bump.. I just picked up one of these and am interested in the answer to your question
Been using [ROM] AOKP(Jellybean 4.2.2 )Task650 (3.19.2013) (WIFI ONLY) for a day and everything works even my samsung keyboard dock. Really impressed with it, before that I had Task650 ICS Rom for the longest with everything running smoothly and no crashes. Netflix, Direct TV NFL ticket and others worked with no issues. I don't think you can get the Tasks650 ICS Rom anymore since he only supports his newest releases .

sounds pretty good. thanks for the info.
I've personally always enjoyed Infamous ICS, and the latest CM10.1 builds have been great. Try any of the recent ROMs and see which one fits you the best.
I've been experimenting with a few ROM's lately.
So far, imo, the best has been. CM10 (4.1.2) and Infamous ICS 3.0
Smooth and responsive all around. CM10 is Jelly Bean smooth but doesn't have the Samsung stuff....
Hi.
Firstly, sorry for my English.
I would like to install ROM with Android upper than 2.1.
But i see, always people write that something doesn't work (ie. camera or wifi).
Are there any newer ROM (2.2 or upper) in which everything is working?
And it would be nice, if the ROM has the Polish language but it isn't necessary.
Thanks in advance for your answer.
It's been a while but I know there are 2.2 and 2.3 ROMs with everything working. Take a look in the development section.
OK, thanks for answer, I'll try to find something interesting. There is so much that it's hard to find.
A few that come to mind are elelinix, villainrom, decked_x by goku (android 2.3 and very nice) , cronos by feeyo (not on xda).
gingerbread 2.3.7 was official
hi! gingerbread was an official update on my t-mobile htc g2. it was completely solid.
fyi- i tried andromadus all the way to jelly bean 4.2.2 (17) and it was just phenomenal. everything worked. but the problem was that it is too quick, and the g2 architecture is outdated and too slow. there would be crashes and so on. but that whole cyanogenmod | flinny | andromadus thing is phenomenal. these people are totally reliable. and make you proud to be a human being
having said all of that. i am here just now to go all the way back down to gingerbread, because even cyanogenmod 7.2 (official release) has turned out to be a bad choice (whatsapp erases, and i need those messages (work) intact.) also, the phone has shut down more times on cm7 than on cm10.
:fingers-crossed:
edit (sep 6, '13)-
actually, i settled on Gen Y Vision X R3. i have used it for a few months. it has been a great experience. i bought an htc one and so, am passing my G2 troubles on to my 10 year old. what an amazing device. a lot of fun. i recommend Gen Y. it was really quite stable.

Hi all, just seen a post about OpenKirin for our devices.
For MediaPad 8.4 seems to support SHT AL09 AND w09
I have funkyhuawei for another 25 days so will give it a try this week and give u all a shout:
https://openkirin.net/
Check it out before me if u get a chance (it's my first day at a new job tomorrow so want something stable for journey to work tomorrow)
Let me know what you guys think about it? Have you tried it before? Have you any knowledge on the Devs and their work etc.
Yes you can use the Rom on your m5. Nearly all works some small things are not 100% OK but nothing important. Only Carbonrom has a Tablet version right noe Rest will be added later
I will add a thread with Installation guides and all other needed in the next few days. If you have any questions ping me. I'm the developer for tablets in open kirin
@rcstar6696 I tried the RR OpenKirin Rom. Most things work well, good work
Same problems as phh-treble with bluetooth being a bit weird (same as the bug I logged here https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/issues/94)
Fingerprint works but home button doesn't (phh-treble fixed this with a custom IDC file)
AOSP camera works but the other camera app crashes at launch

hmmm on carbon i have no issues with bluetooth but i will test more now. about the fingerprint i didn't get what you mean for me fingerprint works all the time its equal if i enable fingerprint navigation or not. Or do you mean if you enable fingerprint navigation no homebutton possible ? if yes thats a limitation from rr on carbon we use a different implimentation for the fingerprint gesture and both work together. i recommand to use the carbon tablet veriosn for now until we push out tablet builds on other roms
No issues on carbon now.. All working fine..

Carbon for tablets v1 build works well, very smooth.
Still the same bluetooth issue, mouse will not pair. It works perfectly on stock rom. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you troubleshoot this issue
Separately, mouse behaviour is strange on this device on all roms including stock, so I think this might be a kernel thing as Huawei define their own 'mouse0' device.
Do I need to have an unlocked bootloader to install Carbon ROM?
Also I was hoping someone wouldn't mind sharing some pictures or creating a YouTube video showing what the carbon ROM looks like on this device.
Thanks

Yes you need unlocked Bootloader

I'm on beta1 for tablet, it feel smoot and stable for a beta, 1080p stutter even on YouTube but it should be solved on beta2 right? I Will try some demanding games too. What's the difference between tablet and generic builds? Just the UI optimizations for bigger screen? ( that's a great thing i hated to have a tablet with phone UI till now!) tyvm i didn't have time to test BT but fingerprint work perfectly for me, even touchscreen precision feel better than stock! Can't wait for the update! The newly announced huawei GPU turbo will be added to treble builds or will be impossible to have it out of emui?
I have some trouble with leanlauncer, installing latest at a glance plug-in fail even after i remove pixel launcher, any idea?

It has a full tablet ui
hello how is going with Carbon? I'm not familiar with Lineage OS, i see a lot of fix on the changelog 'till build number 4, it means it should be more stable and optimized than Carbon at this point or it's just different and it's at similar point? I'm still on Carbon Beta 1 for tablet, everything is working fine beside some performance issue and minor things
Today I installed los on mediapad m5 10". I have to say that developers have done amazing job. Yea, it's not optimized for tablet size, but i don't really care. It looks and works superb for beta.
Bluetooth is a little bit funky if you want to connect like keyboard and speakers at the same time, in that case, bluetooth speakers are disconected. I have found no other issue. Netflix is working, downloading is possible and it's HD resolution.
Camera is crashing, but i never use camera on tablet. Performance is top notch
I was so impressed by this build that I instantly donated, enjoy the beers guys

Carbon is more in Front of lineage and step by step all things get included in lineage. There is no diffrence between in functionallty but carbon is optimzed for tablet usage. One big pro Carbon is Aosp based Lineage is CAF but our device is not supported by CAF but on aosp
