[Q] HW video acceleration on a Nook Tablet 8GB running CM10.1? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Everything seems to point that HW video acceleration should be working, but when I play an mp4 (encoded using handbrake) with MX Player with HW enabled, the program freezes. I need to use SW to play the mp4. Also, the Android galley program also freezes when I try to play the mp4. Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else have HW video acceleration working on a NT8 with CM10.1? I'm running the RC build by the way.

I'm running 10.1 RC2 as well and while it didn't work a couple of days ago the newest version of MX Player (and the ARMv7 Codec) seems to be working fine with hardware acceleration. The new version added a new "HW+" decoder as well which seems to work fine for me when enabled (not sure what the advantages are though).

(Fix) Found Working Video Player For Cm7 Alpha 3

Hey, I just threw this up over at RootzWiki as well, but I think I may have found a working video player for CM7 Alpha 3.
All credit for the fix goes to the user that posted the modified apk, meaning: In NO WAY do I personally take any credit for this video fix for CM7 Alpha 3.
I luckily just stumbled upon it while trying to find a working player.
The apk seems to be a modified version of MX Video Player. Download the apk file here: Alpha 3 Video Fix
The user that originally posted the file is looking for feedback so try and give him some if it works for you too.
Hope this helps
what exactly is the problem with video playback? i have the non-modified MX Video Player installed and playing mp4 running hardware decoder. no problem. xvid/avi plays fine as well
I use moboplayer and it seems to work just fine also
maybe those having problems are trying to play 720p or greater on the tablet. in that case the fix isnt for me. takes too long to transfer
Ive been using moboplayer since alpha 2.1. Never had issues.

MKV files (at least the 720p ones anyway) werent supported with hardware rendering previously in mxplayer on my touchpad/android alpha 3, will be interesting if this is what the newer version fixes.
Edit: Still doesnt support hardware rendering for 720p MKV but seems to run quite ok in software mode. Hardware rendering would be a bit smoother though no doubt, particulary for upscaling lower video res.

[Q] Hardware acceleration

I've recently installed Wet Dream 1.4.3 ROM in my atrix and I'm loving it, but i noticed it has lost video hardware acceleration. If I want to play .mkv files on MX player they stutter a lot and I cant chose HW acceleration. I've tried many diffferent players with the same result. Is there any way this could be fixed?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] crashing on video playback

Hi y'all
I dont know if my transformer is hard ware damaged or if i have a software problem.
Problem description:
I just exchanged my transformer prime for a replacement unit since the HDMI was broken on my old unit.
I reinstalled MX player and started playing a video (H264) and it keeps crashing. The player will kill itself and once, it even went into a weird stripe crash and had to be hard rebooted. I uninstalled the codec pack for MX player, did it on software encoding, no hard crash, but MX player keeps dying.
I tried vplayer, which doesnt seem to crash but the audio/video sync is off. Now I cant remember having this problem on my old unit.
I then proceeded to download the glowball demo to 'tickle' the tegra cores, in case its a cpu/gpu issue, and that worked fine without crashing.
unrooted, locked bootloader with all software updates from Asus.
i am out of ideas, any pointers what could be wrong / how i can locate the issue?
cheers

I have similar problem with u on the video playback, however I manage to play MP4 and MKV files without crash.
MV Player stops when I play any rmvb files which is quite annoying as most of my video are rmvb.
I wonder if it crashes the codec when we try installing different Video players.
saw a new video player on the forum and gonna try it tonight ~ hope this will work~

lets keep talking about this issue and I believe some other users have the similar issue too...
wow VLC build for ARM, impressive
What REALLY is annoying that i get a "not supported" from the stock player. How come the standard Android 4 player does not know the h264 codec ?
Did it work?
Try moboplayer out too and see if that is any different.

I will next, cheers
I just tried the VLC port. it does the same thing of crashing (but its alpha, so hey )
edit:
just tried a xvid file with moboplayer, same crash
all the apps just stop playing the video and return to video select screen
i have seen a couple of Tegra 2 optimized players, nothing for tegra 3 yet?
edit 2:
mx player has an experimental build where you can increase the cores to 4 for sw decoding, havent tried that yet
cheers

I have the same on Tegra 3 - tried MX player, MX player with ARM 7 codec, Mobo player - they just kill themselves during the playback....
Will try more players, not sure if that will help at all...
Dice player seems to have the best interface other then mx.
But no crashes and everything runs with hardware decoding that I've tried.
I too am am having lots of mx player crashes after the jellybean update on my stock uprooted transformer prime. The stock player also crashes.... This never happened on ice cream sandwich. Anyone fi d a solution to make video playback more stable?
Try S/W decoder.
I had a similar problem just a few minutes ago. I deactivated H/W+ decoder and it worked perfectly.
Sometimes, hardware can't play everything. You should try and play these videos with S/W decoder.
I might be wrong. I just said what helped me.

[Q] Hardware Decoder issue when playing video in some ICS rom

Hi there ppl.
Any1 notice that HW decoder for video dont seem to work properly with some of the ICS rom?
In my case,AOKP and offical CM9 nightlies work fine when playing my .avi .mkv file in HW decoder mode whereas for ganbarou ICS ROM and SGT7 ROM, they can only be played in SW decoder mode.
I also try using DICE player and MX player to get the HW decoder to work but they gave the same result. Any1 in the same situation as me or have found a fix already please help me?

[Q] Hardware video decoding on CM10 ROMs -- working?

I'm a new user so I can't post to the Android dev forum. I've successfully flashed two different CM10 ROMs to internal storage -- both of these:
[ROM] [WIP] CM10 PURE AOSP 4.1.2 JBV06.1-Hashcode Buildbot Says Hi!
[ROM] SGT7+CM10+Cherry Picks,By meghd00t. New 09/12 Multitouched!
I've actually tried the most recent two builds of each. In general, things work great, with one problem: I've never been able to get hardware video decoding to work, in any of the ROMs. Other people seem to be having hardware video decoding issues on some builds but not all, so I thought for sure I'd hit on one that worked, but no luck.
Any ideas? Do I need to flash a different kernel to get hardware video decoding to work? Thanks!
what player you using?
hw acc is working fine for- as far as i know- all of them
mx video plays HW+ mode fine for almost all my videos i stream
I'm using MX Player also. Can't play anything in HW or HW+. SW mode works.
Also, for what it's worth, I just tried installing CM7, and hardware acceleration works fine.
Symptoms that I'm seeing in CM10 that lead me to believe that hardware acceleration isn't functioning:
* Can't play videos in HW or HW+ mode in MX Player
* Can't play videos at high quality in Vevo
* WatchESPN app can't play any video
MX Player, Vevo, and WatchESPN are all fully functioning in CM7 though.
Try the 24/11 build of SGT7+CM10+Cherry Picks,By meghd00t. Both MX Player and Youtube HD playback work better than in the latest version.
sometimes you have to restart your tablet to get hw accel on videos to kick in.

Try going to settings and start over picking which plan and your user info. I stumbled upon this by accident but it works quite nicely and I am running the CM10.1 from Kuzma30. It worked whether I was using SGT7, Alien, or the stock CM10 ROMS. MXPlayer is working as well for me.
