[Q] Best MIUI rom (I know I know) - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use a Nexus 4 but I have an old Vibrant that I want to give to my girlfriend to get her off her iPhone. I used to flash (and occasionally brick) my Vibrant all the time so I know what I'm doing. I also know threads about the "best" rom are annoying, but going through all the other threads isn't answering my question.
I'm looking to find the most stable MIUI rom that I can get, preferably with ICS. I remember using MIUI and they're so smooth and fun, and a perfect transition for someone with an old iPhone. I want as few bugs as possible and for the GPS to work (but that ones never going to happen, thanks Samsung!)
These threads always get off topic will people recommending different things. I just want advice on MIUI.
Thanks guys!

Use avatar ROM. Its cm bass but with themeimg capability of miui

You can try out mine:
Version 3.1.11
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2099863
Or my 3.1.25 version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37272682&postcount=11

miui prime 360
It's GB, but has an ICS theme, is the fastest Miui in my own experience. Has a fully working GPS (better on Glitch kernel).

Why are their so many stock ROMS

I was just wondering, why are there so many stock ROMS in the development section. Dont people here like cyanogenmod roms and miui roms? i am thinking of getting this phone in 2 days
personally, i like what samsung provides as default. to me, some of the custom rom's themes just hurt my eyes ;-)
Cyanogen is still in beta for the GSII, not sure about Miui but I don't think thats ready yet either. Some people say they run Cyanogen and are happy with it but for myself and probably most here, I want a completely stable release and I don't want to be flashing nightlies.

Both cyan and miui roms missing samsung media codec playback , only very crappy google basic remains.
Roms its users choice ,its also developers choice .
Both Cyanogen and MIU are well posted if you look .
personally i dont rate either of them .

I can't stand miui roms and imo cm7 is not as good as (modified) stock

I think its because stock isn't that modular in terms of customizations (they need to change framework apks in /system). Also, you change a kernel a custom rom pops up. Add some icons another one gets added. Change theme colors, yet another one. Its a function of the possible number of combinations.
With cm its mostly barebones. One official kernel also. And theme chooser. Instead of actually downloading a whole ROM with a few tweaks to colors and icons, you just download a theme (which installs as an app and you can change without flashing).
Lastly, stock integrates so much better with the hardware and is actually quite nice. Was running it from when I got my phone up until a few weeks ago.
Lately I just found it to be a bit bulky. So now I'm on insanity ii based on cm7 which is super light.
There are some cm7 based roms, insanity and oxygen.
As cm7 is still beta they don't want people building custom kernels yet, due to the extra load it would put on them due to stupid people reporting bugs in the custom kernels to them.

Questions about ICS roms

Hi, I'm a bit new to the flashing roms and rooting scene for android so I was wondering if someone can answer a few questions for me.
What is the difference between the ICS Passion rom and the CM9 Nightly build? And what does it mean by nightly does that just mean its not stable?
I'm running on eclair for my vibrant and its just sluggish and not attractive. I'm just interested in running something smooth and has a stock ICS interface. I don't really need certain features like face unlock, gps, so these aren't much of a concern for me. So what would you guys recommend for me to use? One thing to note is that I'm not too keen on heavy customizing, I just like something simple, not complicated, minimalistic/clean.
Also I play on taking this phone to a different country, namely Korea. Would I be able to use a sim card from a Korean carrier and use the phone that's running a custom ICS rom?
Once I root my phone, is that the same thing as unlocking? How do I unlock my phone?
Sorry if some of these are repeat questions, the amount of information in this forum overwhelms me and I couldn't really find any clear answers.
Thank you!
Ok . Here we go..
Passion is based on cm9 with some added tweaks. Cm9 nightlies are auto generated builds synced and built every night.(hence the name nightlies) they are usually fairly stable but their purpose is to find a stable version. (Cm7 took like 150 night ies before stable, cm is very thorough)
I like cm9 over passion, more clean but overall I like aokp
Depends on the bands of Korea carrier for 3g but you should be able to get voice SMS for sure.
Rooting is not unlocking. T-Mobile doesn't really care about a 2 year old phone so they usually give unlock code otherwise there are unlocking tools out there

Just "completing" the upper post, you can find unlocking softwares for Samsung Vibrant at Google Market (Google Play)...
About the stable/simple/stock ROM... is a matter of preference...
I really like Passion ROM...
Wow thank you guys for the detailed information. Really appreciate it
Can someone also tell me what the difference between the CM9 nightlies and passion is? I've had some experience with CM7 gingerbread and I really liked their work.
Also I read that the passion is also not completely smooth while the CM9 runs very smooth. For someone like me who doesn't have much experience with flashing, should I just install the passion?
My advice is to try them both and see for yourself. Test each one for a couple of days to get the feel for both of them. This way you can decide for yourself which one is stable. I would also suggest trying ICZen which I have been using for over a month now.

[Q] ICS roms to consider for Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100

Just rooted my SGS2 with this forums help after got fed up with Samsungs decision to delay even further ICS release for sim free owners. Flashed Pure 7.2 rom and am kinda happy with it. But would like to give a try other roms too. Pure seems to be so much better battery wise then stock. Google experience and most important no bloatware.
Am looking for a smooth and battery friendly rom. Am looking forward for a stable CyanogenMod 9 release but till now exploring the option.
Many thanks in advance ...
There si no such thing as the best rom. The best rom is the one that you prefer, take a look around the SII page and try a few. When you have gone through a few choose which you like and stick with that one
If you want a solid rom then go for checkrom which is gb and based on tw but there is no fully stable ics rom...wait for cm9 to get stable.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
actually there are a few roms that are quite stable... omega, litening as well as wanam are the ones i ve used so far.... although there is still a lot of improvement for these roms, if you wanna check out ics I think they are good enough to give them a try...
Posts like this are usually closed as best does not exist and the same question will be posted thousands of times in a year .
Try them all .

Thank you everyone who took their time to post here for me and maybe other interested. Firstly I do really understand that there is no such thing as best. And I really never meant to ask for a best rom. I just wanted advise on what would be at least worth to start to try. Which ones are better out there. I just started rooting as really got fed up with Samsungs delays and some really unnecessary for my liking apps included (like bbc iplayer etc)... There are so many roms that I would not really want trying all. Therefore seeking for advise for some better roms out there. And not in their experimental or so stage.
Thanks @frankimm but as you mentioned its not fully stable yet I will skip it on this occasion.
Thanks @pokkas88 I was actually considering lite'ning rom myself. Will check on omega.
My first flash was and is Pure ICS v7.2. It is nice and stable. yesterday with my regular usage got more then 24 out my regular usage. Where on stock 2.3.4 would last only half a day... But something is not right with contacts there. Was lagging when trying to organised and join contacts (google, facebook, skype...) and phone app seems laging a bit too. therefore a bit annoying. otherwise solid and stable rom....
Still hope to hear more opinions...
forgot
forgot to mentioned. Roms with better support from other developers would be probably priority. What I mean the roms that get dedicated addons as I undestadand addons are compatible only with certain roms. And would not really want to get creative in trying to force addons whilst am still learning here...
I highly recommend Hydrog3n rom - I've upgraded to this from Check ROM, prior to finding this I tried several other ICS AOKP to find stability issues, I have to say this is a fantastic rom and cannot recommend you try it enough.
Failing this, Check ROM was great; I had issues with it rebooting or not reconnecting to my mobile network if I lost signal, and ultimately I wanted to do away with Stock so I went for an AOKP rom.
Omega is my fav especially black blue theme

My hones opinion and just in the process of deleting ICS rom number twelve . Non are up to scratch and ICS is not as good as 2.3.6 .
jje
I recommend "Resurrection ics remix" by westcrip. it is really stable. And soon he will publish 4.0.4 AOKP. just give him a try
Just try them all until you like one, there is no other way

Which MIUI do you like Best??

So there are tons of different variations of MIUI nowadays and I just wanted to get a take on what everyone's favorite is, cus I myself have tried out many, and just thought it might be useful to have others feedbacks on certain versions and what not. Specifically I am interested in those who have SPEEDY builds of MIUI; referencing builds like AdyScorpius' build, or Dragon's MIUI SP, or RGUI, MIUI Scotland, things like that; ones with hardware acceleration. I've tried out all of the above including the normal builds, and the ICS of the ones above offered, and was wondering what everyone's favorite was. I'm talking about GINGERBREAD BUILDS, for Speed and Stability, since that is what I'd be using, but if you have ICS build and are commenting on that please go ahead too, just mention ICS. Specifically when commenting put which rom, the build, and what you like about it, or don't like about others. I have my own opinions about each of those but would like some extra feedback, thanks a lot. I'll give an example below:
Currently using MIUI SP (GB), it's got basically everything I'm looking for, has the ICS framework of MIUI, Stock SG2 Camera, as well as MIUI themes. Used Galnet but it wasn't quite as stable, had some mix ups with connection dropping right before a call, and lockscreen was inconsistent. RGUI is sweet, cept Bluetooth doesn't work. AdyScorpius is probably the fastest rom I've ever run but the market FC's every time...
Your turn
Using gb wiui! I've never tried MIUI before but it's amazing!

Asnet is the best for me.
Call quality was very poor with miui I found, How do you guys find it?

Official MIUI v4 is nice also ASNET MIVI is also nice .!
We don't allow these threads, there is no 'best' ROM. Please just try them yourself.
Thanks

Please I need help with Rom selection.

Hey Xda people,
So this is my situation. I have a HTC senseation and I am using to updating roms etc. However I have a friend with HTC legend where her stock rom has stopped working, the touch freezes. So I said I would help root and put a new rom on.
I have been reading the extensive forum and found lots of conflicting information. Which normally would be fine because if I found a rom did like it I would change it straight away. However this is for a friend that's it not tech savvy, and it need to work right and be the best first time around. So I need help in choosing the right rom and radio firmware etc. The requirements are quite simple her is not a power user. important things a battery life and stability.
please help
Regards
Mac Tzu
My opinion, for simplicity, stability, reliability, performance & where everything simply "works", you can't go past cyanogen mod, latest stable is 7.2 (there have been some nightly's released since 7.2 came out which work for me without issue). If you want something a bit more fancy go for homICS its based on cm7.2 anyway, with quite a few tweeks of course these are all gingerbread 2.3.7 there are a few froyo roms that are also pretty much perfect eg. blay0s b0.8.4 & some others I can't think of as I type that would also be worth considering.
There are plenty of other great roms too, but I didn't specificaly mention any of them as they are pretty much still W.I.P. and not quite 100% yet, but it might be worth having a read through the associated threads anyway...
