[Q] A bit of guidance, very lost! - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi all
I am not new to flashing etc, just come from a galaxy note with nexus 4.2.2 to a HTC desire hd which I dropped, now I am using a Sony Xperia U.
I would like to flash the following rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284394
I understand I need to have an unlocked bootloader (Which I have done), I also need root, and then to install CWM recovery.
I cannot root though, I am using "root with restore by bin4ry" but using either option does nothing on my phone, it states it should prompt me to restore a backup on the phone, but this does not happen.
I am running build number 6.0.b.3.184.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

You don't need root actually. A kernel with CWM Recovery should be enough.
I don't know exactly but I assume 6.0.xx is Gingerbread?
If so I recommend you to flash stock ics firmware through flashtool, then flash a custom kernel (like Sliding_XU) with fastboot and last but not least install the rom.zip through cwm recovery, after doing full wipe (including /system!).
Greetz

Right, im stuck on the first step.
I am in flashmode (Green LED), trying to flash 6.1.1.B.1.54 (stock ICS). When I try using flashtool it says preparing files for flashing, then immediately says error flashing, aborted. Then reboots the phone.
I am on 6.0.b.3.184. Any ideas?

maybe is the driver problem , go to C:\Flashtool\drivers and install driver and try to flash again

Still the same problem:

Did you download the correct .ftf?

I am using the top rom from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974430

Mhh.
Try an other maybe?
And try to connect your phone, when flashtool asks for it. Not before.

I will give it a go with another firmware file. Thanks

Nooooo
You have forgotten to install flashmode and fastboot drivers. Go to drivers installation again, in the list of all the phones scroll down and check the flashmod and fastboot drivers also.. Then you'll be able to flash firmware..

true, not only install the device drivers, u need the flashmode and fastboot drivers also
tapatalked!

The ADB and bootloader drivers where installed, and I went through the installer in the flastool directory but still no go.
I ended up using the Sony updater as there was an ICS available for that so happy days.! Thanks all.

use the download from here, the official superuser.
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
you will have to add busybox to the zip from this zip or just add it manually

How to do this ?
Which kernel is this, the one which is supposed to be flashed via flashtool(kernel.sin)?
There is absolutely no need to flash the kernel and then flash original kernel back if you have unlocked bootloader. You can just boot the kernel (fastboot boot <kernel image>) then enter CWM and flash the zip. When you reboot the phone it will start on the original kernel.
trying now in 4.0.4
not working for me, i think i need to downgrade.

Root won't work

I'm trying to root my Sony Xperia P with the standard manual from Sony.
But when I'm trying to reboot the phone I see a new device "S1Boot Fastboot" in the device manager in Windows 7 x64, but after a few second the device is disapeard and the phone boots normal. Is there a way to do this with an application instead of using the Android SDK?
Why this on development section? Go to Q&A section
dude you need drivers, you need Android SDK, than Gordons Gate Flash Drivers, Sony Update Service, and Flash Drivers from the flash tool
From the Sony page you need the latest Android SDK a custom android_winusb.inf file from Sony to enable Fastboot for this phone and Google USB Driver package revision 4 or higher. I've got al these components installed on my machine.
this can be a simple driver issue, install drives manually
go to Computer, and go to Manage

check out the side bar and click on Device Manager
now search for S1 FASTBOOT [the name of the drive(maybe it is on ''other'' tab)]
and do it fast before the device turn off fastboot mode
right click on it and go to Update Software
click on the second option
put the folder where is the usbs drivers
click on next, and install the driver, and now you have the fastboot drives already installed, now you just need to unlock bootloader from that tutorial by sony, and please, hit thanks if you think i helped you, and sorry for that bad english, i am brazilian
I helped you? Please, click on ''Thanks'' button

install the drivers manually dude...

get the latest version of flashtool ... you will find it in Development section and try to flash a stock generic firmware 2.3.3 from The Logic thread in General section
you should install drivers first from its folder C:/Flashtool/drivers ....
that maybe helpful for you

[Q] Xperia U cannot root?

Ok, I've installed all the drivers that come with flashboot (xperia u, flashboot and fastboot)
ST25i
firmware 6.1.1.B.1.54
ics 4.0.4
Says in the settings that it can be unlocked.
Gone all the way through the official method, at the end it just says "root failed" (rechecked both modes multiple times.
Installed flashtool, tried that method, root fails.
Run "root many android", also fails.
I am running everything in admin mode, the phone stays in fastboot and driver is recognized... I just have no idea.

better unock through flashtool
u trying to root or unlock bootloader??
I think he wants to root it...You have to flash .B.1.10 kernel as first. After that you can root (by any method, but I strongly recommend latest Flashtool). And after rooting flash back kernel B.1.54
Where do I get the kernel and how do I flash it? Thanks!
I've tried using this, but get the error "the device must be rooted 1st"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1926387
Now following this guide, gets stuck when it tells me to unplug the device, hold the back button (up arrow) and plug in the usb, phone comes on, computer recognises, phone stays with blue led lit... nothing happens..
Use flashtool to flash stock kernel. Search for. 10 and. 54 kernels on forum
Sent from my Xperia Sola (XDA for Android)
Flash .10 kernel first. Root your phone with "root many android" trheads method and watch the tut vid. Then flash. 54 kernel. I couldnt find "root many android" topic with my phone, so just search for it. When using flashtool to flash kernels, first install drivers from drivers folder, then boot your phone in flashmode. Hope this helps

you need to be on stock ICS .54
first flash .10 ftf, then root using Bin4ry's method
then flash .54 firmware again.

no problems until now! i resolved all...thanks!
But now, there's a new one: my phone was working great until yesterday evening when i turned off it...i have root permission, bootloader unlocked, seeder, build.prop modified, automemory and greenify donate and it was spectacular! But today when i turned on it, lots of apps don't work, they interrupt continously, and in the status bar appears seeder icon, i open it and it is "off". When i tap "on", it said me that supruser hasn't given permission or that i haven't root permission.
Phone is rooted, superuser has "concede" voice in seeder voice, and i don't know what to do. Has someone any idea?
