hi today my little cousin threw my razr maxx and when i pick it up the screen glass was broken..
however the touch and the lcd works 100% with no problems, even in the cracked areas...so the phone is 100% working, but the screen glass is broken...
there is a way to substitute only the screen glass?? or the screen glass + digitizer???
or i will have to change the screen glass + digitizer + lcd??
thanks
Same problem
Even i had the same problem
changing the front panel costs quite a bit ($200) which was not worth it as my phone was working 100%.
and my screen had not cracked externally on the touchscreen. had cracked only on the hardware buttons and the right corner just like yours.
so what i did was patched it up some silicon gel and covered the screen with a screen protector.
and the results have been quite satisfactory.
use clear silicon gel and patch up your right top corner with a very thin layer

so its impossible to replace only the glass???
the glass and the lcd it´s just one piece???
sh*t... im going to sell it and buy the razr hd
Yeah from what i heard there is no way to replace only glass.
Only possibility is glass +digitizer.
But I am gonna keep my phone this way for the forseeable future. I still love it a lot

well the glass + digitizer is not very expensive... about 30-50 euros....
but ive been reading that glass + digitizer + lcd are one piece, and cant be separated........ and the lcd is very expensive.....
anyone can confirm this???
Yeah, that's true - the whole front panel has to be replaced (lcd + glass + digitizer).
No insurance?
If you don't have insurance like me, you have to get the entire screen+digitalizer replaced. It took me an hour, but it's really not that difficult.

bad option for motorola..... this is stupid.... i have only the screen cracked... touch and lcd are working 100% and now i have to replace everything.... i think the repair cost is not advantageous for me, because already had in mind the exchange for the razr hd

razr maxx with screen cracked, but 100% working, touch and lcd 100% working, used, unlocked, in the box, charger, usb, original motorola hdmi, invoice with warranty in germany till 07.09.2013

otherwise i dont think anyones gonna buy a cracked razr maxx

Yeah, great but AFAIK it's impossible to buy only the glass...
i saw this and i want to buy it, but it says for the razr xt910
this will fit the razr maxx too? or the front piece have different size???
thanks
well it isnt fake that the digitizer cant be separated from the lcd!!!!
this is bull**** myth!!! of course that technicians and in the stores tell you that isnt possible, more easy for them, and they make more money!!!!
this pics were taken from a spanish mobiles forum, his nickname samsungnia
Also just as an FYI you can replace jsut the glass if your willing to spend a bit of time removing it.
the glass you can get off ebay ( i just bought some myself )
you head up the phone with a hairdryer being carful not to over heat it or you will kill the screen or
deform it and you dont want that.
then you carfully remove the glass and apply the new one .

i accidentally let my HD fell on the ground one day when i get off my car..
when i picked it up i found that there's a crack on the screen, and the phone won't turn on until i pull out the battery and put it back
initially i thought it would be the damage to the LCD screen, but seeing the boot up screen i see no damage to the LCD, instead feels like there's a protection glass between the touch surface and the LCD screen... which is broken by now
is there any way to get it repaired? i'm living in China and i bought the HD from UK...
I think the part that you are looking for is the touch screen part. Try looking at ebay for some spare parts, maybe you can try to fix it yourself at home.
I am so sorry man. I can really feel you pain.
I would advice you to contact HTC directly and explain them the problem. I am sure they would get back to you with a solution.

Hmm, thanks mate.
Anyway, I was just wondering, if that glass is just for protection for such a enormous screen (I noticed Diamond don't have that class, you can see some waves on the LCD if you press hard enough; and at the same time mine broken but touchscreen still as sensitive as ever), maybe we can just customize some tempered glass like the iPhone screen and replace the original one?
It's a shame that it's so fragile, with the phone selling such a price. I could buy an LCD TV with the same price..
Any technicians can confirm what does that glass actually exists for?

You broke your LCD. Buy a new LCD+Digitizer kit
It's only when you don't buy the insurance that you drop and break your phones. It's happened to a lot of us, don't worry.
Totally agree.
Buy a kit and replace it.
how difficult is it to install the new screen?
also, its very strange. there is no physical damage visible on the screen, its only when the back light turns on that the cracks show.

I think you'd need both.
Personally, I would buy the screen only if you have time to spare. The Digitizer screen is made from gorilla glass so if you can't see any damage there may not be a problem. do you still get feedback if you touch any of the screen/buttons? If so only the LCD itself may have to be replaced.
If you are strapped for cash just replace the lcd because it is 100% done for. If that works you just saved 50 bucks. If the screen works after you replace it but you aren't getting any touch feedback then unfortunately you would have to buy a new digitizer screen, and I dont think that one is gorilla glass :/

Because that 'replacement glass' is a scam not a digitizer. It will not fit properly and will not function as a digitizer. If you look at the video, the removed digitizer has some wires on it. That allows communication w/ the motherboard. That glass is just glass. Even if you could remove the broken touch panel (digitizer) and fit the glass to the phone you would have no ability to use it.
The digitizers for all amoled Galaxy S phones are not available without the attached display panel. The replacement screen costs $95 just for the part, then add the labor and that is why it is so expensive.
If you notice, even the people who made the video (while showing the removal) don't sell the digitizer alone. Pro shops replace the whole assembly. If you can get the job done for $100 including labor, take it. It's a great price.

Not a problem. Unless you have done any repair work on these things you would not know. Most non oled display phones have the ability to replace touch screen and lcd displays individually. Unfortunately, not ours.
This scam works because most people that buy the glass never really get around to installing it, or if they do and it does not work they think they did something wrong. I have repaired a bunch of these things even if you could remove the digitizer sucessfully as shown in the DirectFix video, you can't get a replacement part. Also, this operation needs to be done in a clean room. Any dust on the amoled panel will bruise it when paired with the touch panel so a successful repair is very unlikely outside of the factory. That is why the repair parts are sold together as a unit.

You can't 'just replace the glass'. The digitizer and front glass are one and the same. They are inseparable.

Call me crazy but if people are buying these and not complaining they don't work. Then either they don't want to look stupid by saying they got scammed or they did replace the glass and is possible. I say it's possible but very hard since the thickness is about that of a piece of paper. I saw this on wiki for the superamoled little confusing.
Super Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode or Super AMOLED is a display technology (variant from AMOLED) mainly for use in mobile devices such as mobile phones (see the list below for examples). One of the main differences from other display technologies is that the layer that detects touch is integrated into the screen rather than being overlaid on top.

They are integral but can be separated.... just not rejoined and still work. Notice that the places that show the removal videos DO NOT sell a replacement part, just the entire screen. Most of the glass that is sold as a replacement is purchased from overseas. It costs more to return it than what was spent to purchase it. They are ALL worthless. If there are not wires coming from it it can't be a digitizer. If you remove your broken digitizer and are lucky enough not to destroy you amoled panel you still have nothing to replace it with. Most if not all people who buy these things never get around to attempting the replacement, or if they do, they destroy the panel in the process so they never get the chance see that the glass does not work. They think they screwed it up instead of being ripped off. That's why you don't see negative feedback about those things.... It's the perfect (almost) scam.
If you want to replace your glass buy the entire assembly ($95.00) on eBay and at the end of the process you will have a great phone again instead of a pile of junk.... not to mention feeling like you screwed up your phone.
Well what I'm going to do is wait for my brother to go to Verizon then take his vibrant and use his screen and mess with mine. Though I need to buff out the scratches. If by some miracle I do make it work I will post here. I hate when people find a way to fix something that some of us are trying to figure out and never report back how or just say "I fixed it was simple." WTF WAS IT! had to deal with that with my plasma which I finally did find one thread and fix it.
Sent from my Vibrant using xda premium, running ICS Passion v10.6 OH YEAH!
Digitizer and glass are factory glued together under high temperatures impossible to separate.
Just buy the whole assembly for $90 ( i've seen them for $79 once) with free shipping and tools on ebay. I always send offers using ebay "ask a question" and sometimes they give me few $$ off. Then it is a piece of cake since you can brake off the glass and remove the whole assembly that way.
My personal Vibrant is made of all kinds of used Vibrants and screen assembly comes from Galaxy S 4G which is good replacement too if you also want to get front facing camera.
technically can be done
while i don't recommend anyone else try, I was able to separate the glass from the screen. the glass was cracked but the screen still worked so i bought just the glass thinking it would be an easy replacement. so when i came to find them glued together i used my hot-air gun to melt the glue and remove to broken pieces of glass one by one, very carefully. when putting it back together with the new glass i couldn't re-glue it but the back tray holds the screen in place well enough. there was only one side effect that i have noticed so far. the glass is a little loose since not held to the screen, and i did burn the screen a little bit with the heat gun and it now has minor discoloration. but it is possible with enough patience and a steady hand.

Its repairable but its an expensive repair as entire screen + digitizer assembly needs to be replaced.
Parts are available: http://cnn.cn/shop/samsung-i9300-galaxy-c-26_1412.html
You might want to ask local Samsung repair centre for paid repair quote. Might be very close to the cost of part and might make better sense to get it done through Samsung directly.

Or, you could probably still get $400 for it on eBay. (If you're not the type who attempts to repair things on your own...)

Damn s3 so breakable. I remember when i had s2 and note, it felt from my hands a lot of times and no scratches or broken display
I got a Squaretrade warranty for mine -- $69 for a year and covers accidental damage. (Doesn't cover loss or theft though...). They also charge a 99 dollar deductible, but that's still better than the almost $700 I paid for it to begin with.
A quick reminder, buying insurance on something after damaging it, then using the insurance to repair it *is* fraud, which is illegal, don't get us in trouble m'kay!

SGS2 & SGS3 screen
Samsung used the Gorilla Glass for SGS2. But for SGS3, they used the Gorilla Glass 2 which is much thinner than on SGS2 that's why it's easily breaks. For me, I will stay on my SGS2.
looks like i'll be buying a case for mine seeing all these posts about screen breakage. but until I find the right case, at least i have 90 days of lost & damage protection from Amex!

Screen damage is not the end of the world.......i have been looking at tear downs for the SGS3 and they are pretty basic, even replacing the screen ( which will prob end up costing where abouts of 249 dollars) but that over trashing a new device. i have dropped my sgs3 3 times in the last week and the silver bumper looks Hella Ratty, but my screen is perfect.
i am going to buy a replacement screen as the housing and the screen are joined together, or else i would really need to do some heat gun and gental pulling of the screen to get it out of the housing. but its not hard yall.
if your screen is cracked and you dont have warranty, maybe a screen is the way to go. all you need is small screw driver and a flat metal/plastic peice to pull of the board connections.

Go to a mobile phone repair shop.
Hello all,
Got my S3 a couple of weeks ago and dropped it onto a wood floor on Friday with no case on it (been waiting for mine to arrive from Amazon ). The device seems to be absolutely fine apart from a very small scratch on the top left of the screen. I've been trying to live with it but it's really annoying me and would be more than happy to pay to get it fixed if it doesn't cost absolutely silly money.
Is it possible just to have just the glass replaced or will I have to shell out for the glass and the digitiser etc as well? Has anyone else had their S3 screen repaired?
Thanks
Replacing the S3 screens are pricey, I'd stick with the scratch until you do some serious damage.
It is inevitable the phone will get scratched at one point so I find it hard to believe someone would pay to have a whole screen replaced based on one scratch, you must be crazy!
If the scratch is that annoying get a decent screen protector and you won't be able to see it.
It would be very expensive. The front plate, digitizer, and amoled screen are bonded in one piece and the assembly is sold at ~US$200 in Ebay.
check out this thread .... its a must read for all s3 users with damaged glass ...

I'm not sure, it looks like the front plate and the digitizer are totally inseparable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es8gezSdKv4.

Just read, and see that you are about to do the same. Good luck to you as well.
Yet I think the person in the video didn't peel off just the glass but the glass together with the digitizer, which is slightly tinted as seen in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es8gezSdKv4.
The cheapest and best solution is to use a mirror screen protector. It will hide your scratch when phone is off.
When Screen on you will not notice it.
I'm sure I have read a thread where someone got it replaced at car phone warehouse for £80ish, not sure how true that is as it does seem very cheap for the job. Worst you can do is ring them and ask for a quote and them tell you this ain't true.
I have insurance which would cost me £25 excess through my bank so not really looked into costs of getting things replaced, but I have taken apart a lot of phones in the past and they are getting much harder to replace things like glass on its own. As said above it would have to have digitizer, which is pretty costly to purchase.

Hello all,
Got my S3 a couple of weeks ago and dropped it onto a wood floor on Friday with no case on it (been waiting for mine to arrive from Amazon ).
Thanks

you can buy the unit for £150 and follow a youtube video on how to replace, or pay between £175-£225 for a full repair.
I took mine to a Samsung repair centre on a Saturday and had it fixed within 30min, paid £215 but just wanted it done.
The glass and the digiizer are glued together so the whole unit would have to be changed.

Hi
If the screen still functions and the touch is working properly you can just change the glass face but you will have to be real careful as doing it yourself without the right equipment is risky and you can end up without a screen working at all. the whole screen that is currently on the phone will be completely sealed to the phone so it is a slow process to remove it and you can end up pulling the digitizer off the lcd and again this is not fixable if this happens.
also the finish will not be as good as the original without the right type of liquid glue to go back between the glass and digitizer.
at the end of the day you are better off sending it to someone who does it a lot and has all of the gear to do it, as you will get a better finish at the end.
