[Q] Launching one app from another - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off, the noob video was great.
Next: I have a Galaxy S2 (D710) from sprint running Cyanogenmod 10. I don't think that really plays into the question I have, but just in case. What I am trying to do is launch one app from another. Specifically, I want to launch specific remotes from the "Universal Remote" app from Homeseer's HSTouch app. I am using the full version of Universal remote.
I have had success launching the camera on the phone from HSTouch by following the posts here: "board.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=154394" (sorry for the lack of a link, I am not allowed to do that yet.)
Universal remote has a widget that can can launch specific remotes. When you set that up, it appears to use something similar to a url to launch the remote. IE: "ur://remote/Relmtech.Basic Input" to launch the basic input remote. I have tried putting this in the launch application dialog with no success. I have also tried any iteration or "Universal Remote" i could think of with no success. I don't know too much about the way that android works, but I assume that there is a "Path" where it looks for applications. When a command is given to run an application, it looks at the locations included in that path for the executable with the given name.. I am thinking that maybe "Camera" and "Calendar" are in that path, which is why they launch when those words are passed as arguments to the HSTouch app. Either "Universal Remote" is not in that path (not likely) or it is called something else (more likely).
So the question: Does anyone know how I can figure out what I need to put into HSTouch as an argument for launching these remotes?
Thanks in advance,
Josh

[Q] Application shortcut with command line parameters

Hi.
I always had windows mobile devices in the past, and like you must know, the old good windows mobile no longer exist... Microsoft killed it.
So I switched to Android. I really like android, The way it works is pretty the same than windows mobile with file browser, files system(Not like the Iphone without any way to deal with a file at all), .APK install like the .CAB on WM...
One think that I loved on WM is how easy it was to make shortcut by yourself, even with parameters. As example, it was easy to create a shortcut to Coreplayer to play an HTTP stream when simply clicking on it.
Like: "coreplayer.exe my_teststreamDOTcom : portNumber"
I searched a lot over internet and forums all over there, and I can't see any solution like this on android.
I'm pretty sure that you can do it with some application like ANYCUT or BETTERCUT or also "MANUAL INTENT SHORTCUT" But I have not find any documentation or example to how to do this.
Any of you having the same problem or found a method to do this?
Thanks!!
Cedric
No one what to do the same thing really?
Apps in the Android store which might fit the bill: "tasker" and "script manager"

Click to collapse
Did those apps work?
It's been a few months since he asked, I doubt if he's checking the thread regularly. He's probably found some answer or workaround, since November. I posted the answer mostly because this thread will pop up in internet searches, and it will be able to help others find the answer quickly, too.
Good lookin out pimpin.

[Q] Mapping Dexim Click Stik's Input via Bluetooth to Perform an Action

Hello. Today I a friend of mine gave me his Dexim Click Stik since he didn't need it anymore. It's a simple bluetooth clicker for taking pictures with iOS or Android phones.
I don't take many pictures with my phone, much less ones that need me in them. I was hoping I could use the clicker as a remote activator for some shortcut or app.
I've been googling and searching around for hours without much luck. The only thing I've been able to do so far is find an app that lets me open an app upon the Click Stik connecting to my phone, but not when I specifically press the button on the device itself. Not very practical, in my opinion.
I found a tutorial I thought was helpful in somewhat understanding what I might need to do in order to get the functionality I'm looking for here: http://chris.boyle.name/2010/08/android-keymaps. However, the KeyTest.apk he links to in order to obtain the KeyEvent from the bluetooth device does not display any input events when I hit the button on the clicker.
I also haven't been able to find any similar apps to what KeyTest seems to say it does.
Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!
Edit #1: I was able to install the KeyTest.apk via ADB by "adb install KeyTest.apk". Not sure why it worked this way when it wouldn't install normally. That said, now that I have the program open, pressing the button on the bluetooth clicker doesn't result in the KeyTest program telling me anything. Kind of disappointed. Not sure where to go from here.

[Q] Unified Remote - Launch Chrome, and open specific URL

Hi guys,
I want to know how to do this, I've been fiddling with Tasker and Unified Remote but can't get it to work.
Basically, I've got an NFC tag outside my apartment, when I step in, I tag it, and that triggers a tasker profile which does a few tasks:
1) Switch off data
2) Switch on Wifi (and connect to home wifi)
3) Launch Airdroid on phone
4) Launch Chrome on PC and open Airdroid url (this doesn't work!)
5) Launch Foobar2000 on PC (this works)
6) Launch Foobar2000 android controller.
Everything works, except for launching the address in chrome. I can launch chrome just fine, but the url I've set doesn't open. How do I do this? Any ideas?
Thanks!
No one? I'm sorry to bump this, but I really wanna know, I've tired doing it myself, and I've tried Googling it.
I just wanna be able to get Unified remote to launch Google Chrome AND open a specific address on my PC. Using tasker.
Try Command Prompt
Have you tried UR's Command remote to open a URL on your PC that way?
I too need to make this work, so I'm going to dabble with the Command remote now...
Hey! I was searching for the same thing but couldn't find any easy solution. One solution I have in my mind is to integrate join and Eventghost on windows. But this will be lot more difficult than on android. I have noticed that eventghost has a steap learning curve. Do let me know if you have a better solution for the same.
Cheers!

Using Android intents for automation

I'm working on doing some automation on my phone, and I want to perform some actions that I'm hoping I can perform using Android intents. I'm not very knowledgeable about how they work or how to find them, but I'm trying to hack some stuff together.
Here's my main question: how do I go about figuring out if I can use intents for a particular task or see what I can do with intents?
For example, I would like to be able to trigger the "Share trip progress" feature within Google Maps automatically (using Flic buttons, which allow me to use Android intents). I don't know if I can set up an intent myself to trigger this action in the Google Maps app, and I don't really know where to start in order to try to find out how to do it.
Another example is that I would like to trigger Google Assistant with my Flic button, but I want to use my Anker Roav Bolt in my car to respond to the action. Flic has a function built in to trigger Google Assistant, but it's a lot more invasive in that it opens the prompt on the phone and disrupts my Google Maps navigation as opposed to if I long-pressed the button on my Roav Bolt and it just listens for instructions without disruption. I have no clue if this is something I could trigger using Android intents, but I'd like to find a way to make this smoother.
If you have solutions to these two problems, that would be great. But as I said, I would also like to have a better general understanding of how I could find this stuff myself for future stuff I want to set up on my phone.
Thank you.

Voice Typing through Android Device to my Windows Machine

Hi all,
I want to do Voice Typing through my Android Device to my Windows Machine.
I found an app which works pretty well, called Unified Remote. Pretty well known.
The downside right now is: I always have to use the app, go to "Basic Input", open my Smartphone Keyboard (Gboard) and press the Voice Typing button. This is a long way.
I want to know whether the following is possible either in Unified Remote OR whether you know a similarly app:
I want to create either a widget or a Quick Action in the notification area which does the following on ONE click
It should directly open my default Keyboard app on my smartphone (as said: this is GBoard) directly in voice typing mode.
My goal is a One-Click solution to voice-type through my smartphone to my Windows machine.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks
