[Q] Converting an app to a standalone apk - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Opera is rolling out their new Opera 14 mobile browser (which sucks) as an 'update' over Opera Mobile. I rather dislike Opera 14, and I don't want that 'update found' notice hanging there all the time, and I flash new ROMs rather often, so my question is this:
How can I convert Opera Mobile into a standalone apk that's detached from the market, and in such a form that I can install it again from that apk when I flash a new ROM? I am aware Titanium Backup can do this, but I don't like restoring from Titanium Backup to a fresh ROM; I understand that sometimes junk data can be deleterious.
Ideally I'd also be able to retain user data (like bookmarks so I don't have to sign in to Opera Link) too, but I'm nor fussy.
Thanks in advance.

how do i default opera browswer instead of IE

every program i use defaults to internet explporer.....is the one setting i can change to get it to use opera.....
stilll noob to the whole PPC thing so any regestry tweak i prob cant do
could i just delete IE???
How many programs, and how much data do you have on the phone? My sprint TP automatically launches Opera for every thing. Did you tweak the phone.
I hate to say this but I would hard reset the phone, and it should come back to the opera default (if you have the stock rom).
This just happened to me and I need a fix!!! I have a Sprint TP and I am running the stock rom. I have done a lot with the phone. After I installed skyfire this started to happen to me. I uninstalled skyfire but the phone still uses IE as an default.
Go to windows folder find opera file and reinstall opera.Ignore errors if you get any.
both files under then windows folders are not for reinstall.....
I found the answer at sprint users. I put a link in look at post #7. When you reinstall opera it will give you a message saying the old version can not be removed just say ok.

Backup you bookmarks and tabs of browsers..:)

hey everyone..
this guide is for rooted users and in this guide you DONT require ANY APP FOR BACKING UP AND RESTORING!!
today I am going to tell you how to backup your bookmarks tabs or slides of the browsers. ..
many of you dont know about this..
it is for those who always flash roms and then their browsers history slides/tabs and bookmarks are gone because of the factory reset..
the bookmarks history and everything of the browsers are stored in data/data/(the folder od the browser)
for example..
for the android browsers the folder is-
data/data/com.android.browser
for opera it is-
com.opera.mini.android (for opera mini)
com.opera.mini.next.android (for opera mini next)
com.opera.classic.android (for opera classic)
like this way there are folders and inside there are the files..
YOU JUST HAVE TO COPY THOSE FOLDERS (COM.XXXX.XXXX.XXXX) IN YOU MEMORY CARD..AND THEN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO..
FOR RESTORING YOU JUST HAVE TO PUT THOSE FOLDERS AGAIN IN DATA/DATA AND THEN INSTALL THE BROWSER AND WHEN YOU WILL OPE THE BROWSER THE SLIDES BOOKMARKS HISTORY EVERYTHING THING WILL BE WITH YOU..
THIS WAS JUST SO SIMPLE..
★PRESS THANKS IF IT HELPED YOU★
if there is any query then post it hereI will help you...

backing up/exchanging opera bookmarks between pc/android mobile without sync

FINALLY a working sollution WITHOUT syncing
Within this idea (I am specificly working on Opera) I could find that the "bookmark" file on the pc
(which you can find in c:/users/username/AppData/Roaming/Opera Software/Opera Developer - or Opera Stable )
is compatible with the one on Android
(to be found at /data/data/com.opera.browser)
This hack works for all 3 versions of opera on andriod (opera, opera mini and opera beta)
This is THE sollution I was looking for since a long time to move my bookmarks around amongst different devices
Having a complete and total aversion of sync situations (that all web browser devs absolutely want to push through our throats)
NO I do not want my bookmarks / passwords to be flying around on the net (I find that a primary and absolute matter of privacy
Btw, I think this only works for rooted phones (as you need access to the main android folder, which I do via TotalCommander, to copy the necessary files)
A BIG thanks for your suggestion Shaurya !!!
NOW I am still looking for a way to import my passwords with a similar technique
I know on Opera for Windows you have to manually flag with the next command :
"opera://flags#password-import-export"
Which enables you to export your passwords to a csv.file, that you can move around to another computer (or just use as a backup)
MY next step now is to IMPORT that csv.file into an android opera versioin.
OR is there a way to find/copy the wand.dat file that opera uses to store the passwords and import that in the android version.
Anyone any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance

[No Gapps][F-Droid] How to backup Settings, User Dictionaries, Blocked Numbers?

Hi all, I am running Lineage OS (but my question is not necessarily Lineage-specific) *without* Gapps (I'm using F-Droid only) on a rooted device.
I am looking for a way to backup (on file) the Settings, Blocked Numbers, and User Dictionaries of my device. The idea is to have a backup such that:
1) I can import smoothly on my PC
2) I can re-import smoothly everything on a fresh install on the same device
3) if I change device (and maybe OS version), I can still re-import manually single files (so, maybe not the full settings, but the user dictionary and blocked numbers yes for example)
The TWRP backup is hence not suitable, because it performs a full device backup.
It would be enough for me to know the location of the databases where Lineage stores such info (my phone is rooted, I can grab those DBs if I know where they are).
I tried Oandbackup but it looks definitely overkill, it always gives me a bunch of error, and plus I found very confusing to decide what com.provider.omg.wtf.orly.kthxbye to backup and what not
Any idea?
Thanks in advance ^^
Up! Even just the user dictionaries would be very appreciated!

Help to extract (backup) bookmarks from armorfly browser

Hello guys, i need some help
for some time I'm have been using armorfly browser and I have a lot of bookmarks, but now I need to reset my phone and I want to keep the bookmarks, the initial idea is to not use armorfly again, apparently its discontinued
I tried a lot of bookmark managers on google play, no one has the ability to import from armorfly the same with a lot of browsers that I tried
there is some way to extract these bookmarks, from the data folder, the apk it self or via adb ?
because of some stream apps i use, and previous problems i had i don't want to root my phone
the phone is an ASUS Zenfone Max Pro (M1) ZB602KL 4GB RAM, ASUS_X00TDB
Have the exact samt issue. Onyone have an idea?
Thanks!

How restore In-App Data (bookmarks) from stock browser?

Good day XDA-Dev´s,
I have posted my request here, please understand. Couldn't find a thread about my smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy Trend 2 Lite SM-G318H.
Stock-Browser: Samsung Internet 2.0.34.L57-0_101300_2276082
Unrooted.
I ask for help with the following problem:
I accidentally deleted my in-app data from my Android stock browser (Samsung browser). Especially, my bookmarks were also on the app data.
I then took the following steps to solve the problem, to restore the bookmarks:
1. I deleted all the data on the device memory as well as from the SD card and copied my saved data onto it again, because I was under the assumption that the bookmarks from the browser would then be there again.
2. Then I used a tool to completely save the stock browser as an .apk installation file and reinstalled the stock browser, but unfortunately without success.
So my question in conclusion, is it possible to program an or is there a app that will restore my in-app data files or my bookmarks from the stock browser, similar to the desktop PC system restore (you should know).
Would be very nice to help.
Greetings.

The stock Samsung Internet app already had a build in feature for sychronizing this data to Samsung cloud.
Open the settings if the stock browser and enable the option to sychronizing data with Samsung cloud. You just have to log in with your Samsung account.
Alternatively you can open your bookmarks/favorites in the stock browser and select "share". Then you also have done options to share selected bookmarks.
