When I talk normally into my phone people on the other end can hear me just fine. When I go to speakerphone everyone is complaining that they can barely hear me.
Is there some issue with the microphone or some way to increase the mic volume when I'm on speakerphone? I looked through the android settings and didn't see anything.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks

Yeah,i will send mine back too.
Well I had that problem but found that when I held the phone in my left hand, my pinky finger would rest under the bottom of the phone covering the mic hole. I think they should have positioned it in the middle.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Same, I always rest my pinky there mainly because that's where I would rest it on my note (sgh 717). Everytime I'm talking no one hears me so Im learning to reposition my finger slowly but it's difficult lol

I had this problem. The issue I had was when I installed the zagg skin it covered the noise cancelation mic on the back of the phone. It is the little hole on top right of back of phone. Make sure it is not covered. If you are on speakerphone and that is covered you are barely heard. Anyone who does not have the problem you can try this by covering the hole with your finger while on speakerphone and everyone will say they can't hear you.

I also have microphone problem on v22 and im not sure what to do to gwt rid of it can anyone suggest because ive looked back through the thread and havent seen any solutions other than to use other versions. I will be trying a clean install at some point but would prefer to just fix it. Surely theres a value we can change?

When I shake the phone there's a rattling noise, it could be the battery or something like that, is this normal or should I take it back to store?

Unless it's loud and feels like something has fallen off, it might be the camera or the accelerometer.
Accelerometer is an aside, no audible moving parts.

just gave mine a shake and i will admit im not in the quietest office but i could not hear anything. If i was you i would take to the store to be safe i mean they should just straight swap it over.
I meant to type "ASIC," silly autocorrect changed it on my atrix.

Yup, I have that too. I noticed it when I followed the 'shake' tip in App Highlights.
It's like one of the bigger parts isn't secured, possibly the battery. It makes a muffled click-clack noise when I shake the phone. But I have to really shake it, when I turn it over or move swiftly it doesn't occur.
Just to let everyone know (esp the guy above me) I took it back and got a replacement, the replacement makes no noise on shake at all so it definitely is some kind of fault (albeit a small one).
Like, robinVerdegaal says I think it was the battery. Mine was pretty loud (you could hear it rattle in a loud room) and I also noticed it when using the Suprise Me function on the App Highlights app.
Thanks brummiesteven. I didn't have a real problem with the loose part, but as I've also had a couple of touchscreen and touchbutton freezes (see this thread) I'll probably go and get a replacement as well.

I think that may be a software problem, I too have a similar issue, screen works fine but none of the buttons on the side work, volume, power, camera etc. It only happens when connected to power which is why I think it's a software problem.
I have a pretty annoying problem because from the earbud (under the wrtitten SONY) comes interfecences while i'm speaking with someone using the mobile line.
The interference is like that of the speaker near a mobile phone but from the earbud.
someone has the same problem or mine is a isolated case?

I think you mean earpiece...not earbud.
If you hold the phone near your ear you can hear a very high pitched hiss sound while you are talking? The sound has a pattern to it. If so, then I have tried 2 of these phones and they both do it. I don't now if they all do it, but it seems to be common. Some people who don't have such good high-pitched hearing will not hear it at all. You will never hear it if you are outdoors...only if you are at home in a quiet room.

I hear it too. It's the usual GSM "cellphone interference" sound.
Hi i have the same i hear that xd
But what i have noticed this is only in GSM mode ...at WDCMA its ok..i cant hear this .
I have the same problem. Got my first phone replaced and the new one came today with the same problem.
Try only with WDCMA (3G) and See if that help.

Now I did some tests,
I tried only GSM mode and there's no problem, only WCDMA -> the same thing
Good also WCDMA/GSM..
sometimes the problem seems to disappear
Yeah I too have the same issue.
Its not everytime but sometimes,
Its like a electronics interference noise.
Don't know what's this all about ://

I think it's for the bad isolation of earpiece, but someone think the problem come out when the XS switchs GMS/WSDMA

i can hear that hissing too, i ve searched about it, and it looks like latest smartphones have that kind of problem, the only solution i could find is not to place your ear directly on the earpiece, fortunately this phone has a great in-call volume...
earpiece hissing, crackling, buzzing - problem solved
well amigos, the problem finally has been solved for me, reading this forum https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3414732?start=0&tstart=0
so i turned off my phone, i removed the sim card, i cleaned it using a soft cloth, and then i inserted it back, making sure the sim card was placed correctly in the tray, i tested it several times and guess what, there was no more hissing anymore, so the problem is the micro sim-card, those sim-cards must be placed correctly otherwise it will make that hisssing sound
i hope this works for you too
greetings from colombia...
Had my first two calls today, same problem. Interestingly, it gets louder/more noticeable when I'm actively speaking, not when the other party says something.
Sim-Card is fresh from the envelope, so there shouldn't be scratches, dust or fingerprints on it, but I'll try cleaning it up tomorrow. Got the phone set on GSM only, since I've got bad 3G/UMTS signal at home and I'm pretty sure constant "channel-hopping" would drain the battery.
Hi,
got xperia S yesterday. Great phone... only problem is GSM interference in the earpiece. It is there every time when phone is set to 2G. 3G is free of this issue. As I can hear at every call it's a bit irritating.
I don't know what should I do: sent it back to the store (bought from amazon), try to repair in the service centre or learn to live with it?
Can any of xperia S owners make a siple test: put the phone in "only GSM" mode and make one or two calls. Put earpiece close to the ear and listen to it. I wonder if it's design flaw and every xperis S have this issue, or only some of them....
Anyone who got his phone replaced and the new one came WITHOUT the same problem ???

Hey guys,
I've been having an issue with the volume on my phone. There is very little sound coming out through the speaker on the back. To be able to hear anything at all, I have to stick the speaker right up to my hear and even then you can barely hear any sound even though I've put the volume on max. When I plug headphones in, the sound is fine. Only when I'm trying to listen to music without earphones or trying to hear my notifications and ringtone when someone calls me, it gets very little sound. I'm using AOKP Jelly Bean 4.1.2 if that helps. This starting happening when I was using my Nike+ Running app. Music was playing while I was running and then all of a sudden the music stops. I found out that it didn't stop because my music was still going when I plugged in headphones and the sound was still coming out of the speaker but very low that you could not hear it. If you guys have a solution, please help me out. Thanks.
I did have something familiar and was the headphones cable not properly connected...

I'm assuming you've tried doing a full wipe before posting this question, as if that fixed there would be no reason to post this question? If not, do that. That's always a trouble shooting step that should be done before posting. If it doesn't fix it, it could be a hardware issue.

So I decided to give Googlr voice another try just so I could get away from VZWs Visual Voicemail app. I used Voice for my voicemails before right after it first came out but it easnt up to snuff so I switched back to VZW and now that I am wanting to make the change to Google Voice I am having nothing but problems with the volume.
When I first used it I noticed the volume was extremely low on voicemail playback. I used my google-fu but was unable to find a fix for the issue. The volume is so low that I cant make out what is being said most of the time. I get absolutely no sound unless I put it on speakerphone and then I have to hold it up to my ear to even hear anything, and even then it is barely audible.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
I should probably note that all my volumes are maxed out, but no matter what I change them to it doesnt seem to affect the volume for better or worse.

Though I can't speak for google voice, you could always try youmail. It is a visual voice mail app that works pretty good. Though I dont use voice dictation, the paid version has it.

Had this problem when I first installed. Seems to happen when Media volume was set to max. Back it off one or two notches and it may work, it did for me.
I will give that a try tomorrow when I can get someone to leave me a message. Sorry I didnt reply sooner, we had a tornado come thru in Alabama. They said it was 70 MPH straight line winds but I actually saw the funnel cloud pass by my house and there was quite a bit of damage, a couple of 7 foot long 2x4's straight thru some chicken house walls and all kinds of other ****. Also I havent had power so I havent been able to chargw my phone....
Anyway, ill test it out and report back tomorrow afternoon, I just wish I could figure out why its acting so wonky. I really really like it niw but that volume issue is so bad that if I cant fix it I will have ti switch to something else.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium HD app
I may end up having to switch to that. I really enjoy Google Voice but its ridiculous when I cant even hear the voicemails.....
Thank you for the suggestion

I just went a borrowed my girlfriends phone to test it out. If I adjust the volume while listening to the message on speakerphone it works, the downside is that I like my volume all the way up and in order to hear the voicemail I have to turn the volume down to the halfway point to hear it.. I really dont understand that but at least I got it working! Thank you so much!

Anyone else hear a faint popping sound after 2 seconds of any sound being played ? It sounds like the sound is from the speakers turning off.
Hey
My HTC One does this as well (started a thread about it just recently), and it was the first thing I noticed on the phone when using sound on the keyboard. Extremely annoying and seems to be a wide spread issue.
wide spread? where else have you heard of this problem? does it happen on the international version as well?
Wondering if i should return mine and get another.
Other users have been reporting the issue as well. I'm located in Canada, and members from the US have said their phones have the same problem.
Yea just read your post on the international forum, seem like a widespread issue. Well I hope its just software

Not sure, if I do have it I don't seem to be able to notice it. Where is it most prominent, I tested by starting and stopping Pandora repeatedly.
I believe it is the software keeping the amp on for a bit too long. I would assume this will be fixed with a software update

Make sure you are in a very quiet room, then play something on youtube, then hit pause, and listen very carefully. you should hear a faint popping sound as the speakers turn off after you pause the video.

Ah, I can hear it now. In Pandora as well. Personally it's of a low enough volume level on my device where I don't think I'll find it annoying, but I still hope it's software related. Also seems to not be effected by the volume level or beats being on.

I could verify, I too was getting that popping sound. It's one of the first things I've noticed as soon as I got the phone home. I'm not trying to be overly OCD cause overall I think this phone is perfect and has none of the other flaws and defect mention on this site.
But I thought I should mention I haven't been able to replicate the popping sound.
