Dear all,
I and few others are struggling with some problems related to flasher. Our problem is, that we do not know what vanilla JB device should "look like". By vanilla I mean device, which has not been flashed using flasher. So what we are looking for is XTS device, which has been upgraded to JB using OTA update, not flasher. It's ok if you have rooted (and necessary also) and rescued-backdoored using AiO, but no flasher.
If you have device like this, could you please please please please download attached xtsdump.zip, unzip it, connect your XTS device to your computer and run xtsdump.bat? This requires that you have adb.exe on path, if you do not have, please but xtsdump.bat to AiO folder where adb.exe is and then run (I can include adb.exe to this zip on this evening but not right not).
And when you have results, please post and attach resulting xtsdump.txt to your post. You can view this file, it just contains some metadata about your device, I would like just to see /system/vendor links... This will NOT brick your device, there is no risk.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!
Mine is flasher free but I buy it and upgraded the two ics otas, its ok?

Thank you! This was great, no other dumps are needed. So what I was looking for is here:
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2013-04-11 07:40 vendor -> /datapp/vendor/vendor0/DE
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2013-04-18 20:49 vendor -> /datapp/vendor/vendor1/DE
These are vendor files for each system partitions. They are symbolic links to /datapp/vendor/vendorX where X relates to system partition number. Flasher may mess up these which will prevent installing any OTA update (including recovering if device is bricked). But now we know how the links should be set up so we can restore them...
Thank you so much for this dump!

Okay, so you have tested your tablet and you believe it has root access. Now tell me what exactly are you attempting to do when the AiO tool tells you your tablet needs root access?
Im trying to enable the write permissions to sd, and now when ever i do a selection of any option on the AIO options non of them work and before i did the update to (release1 a) i had access to everything in the menu
super SAD i just used a root checker and i have lost my root access ... please some please tell me there is something i can do to fix this and have access once again.. can i downgrade or work away around this ?
- i had 4.0.3 and flashed to 4.0.3 r1a from the link given in the firmware link given in the AIO thread .....

Unfortunately, you have lost root access and currently there are no methods available for you to regain root access. Your mistake was flashing your tablet using the OTA update file as-is instead of using Condi's AiO tool to pre-root the OTA update file before flashing your tablet.
ah well that really sucks..... and from what i have been reading there is no way of downgrading is there ?

I got japan wifi+3g SonyTabletS with 3.2, and updated to 4.0.3r1a. Recently, some japanese succeed to root "4.0.3r1a", I tried it and I'v got root!
I'm not sure if other language device were able to be rooted, but you might try the method.

hi,
i was able to access /data but the VpnFaker.apk digest seems invalid to my Tablet S (4.0.3r1a US firmware)

The auther said included "VpnFaker.apk" had adjusted certification of original "VpnDialogs.apk" in /system/app/ in Japan ver.
So I guess you must match VpnFaker.apk's certification to your oliginal "VpnDialogs.apk", but it's required rooted device.
hi Yupandra2012,
I can get the /system/app/VpnDialogs.apk without rooted, can you ask the author to re-pack the VpnFaker.apk for us? Thanks!

Hi guys,
If you want to have root, and be able to use decrypt/custom
preroot/flash custom functions on Sony Tablet S / Xperia Tab with new firmwares,
then DO NOT update directly to R5/R5A!
since R5 and future releases are shell disabled in recovery.
since R5A new root method with restore is not possible.
Sony Tablet S users - use AiO to make prerooted custom firmware,
with hidden.img replaced to still-vulnerable one!
Or if you dont want to make one for yourself, just wait for me
to make and upload custom fw's for wifi and 3g versions - HERE.

Tablet s wit 4.0.3R5 recovery v36 to 4.0.3R5a with root ?
Hello everybody,
I have a tablet S, with version 4.0.3R5 with Recovery v 36 and it's showing the update to r5a...
I'd like to root it, and get the update to make vpn work again (r5a).
I've read in STIFILZ FAQ (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828107) that it's rootable with condi's AIO tool, but how I can get r5a with root if I've already have recovery v 36 ?
In the same FAQs, I've seen this:
Q. I have 4.0.3R5 rooted and want to downgrade to something else
A. When you install R5 OTA or flash normal file the recovery is 'upgraded' you will not be able to use AIO to pre-root future updates nor flash them. You can still root using the ICS method (if it is still current for the update. You can however flash either ICS or ICS R1A by lowering your incremental and manually flashing through recovery. Or see below for condi's amazing solution.
Q. I want 4.0.3R5 rooted and don't want the stupid new recovery
A. See this post here.
-- Now with double flash (flashes both system0 & system1)
But I cant' figure out how to do it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction ?
Thanks a lot !!!

I think the link you put in "FLASHER" its wrong, I believe the right one is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050126&highlight=flasher
I'll try now to root and flash with this tool...
UPDATE: The root worked like a charm, then I used the flasher. It downloaded all the files, and prompted me to select wich hidden image to use. I've selected R1 since its the last with adb support. When it finished I entered recovery and I still see version 36, it's ok ? In the windows device manager I see a "sony" device with no drivers, I've tried the ones with ADB and AIO but it does not recognizes them....
thanks !

You download APK on your device and install it as you would do normally and just run it and watch the show! I have to say that latest version of KingRoot DID NOT WORK with ver. 4.0.3 r5a currently installed on my tablet s but i've downloaded ''kingroot_global'' (link below) and it worked like a charm! My Sony Table S is now rooted
P.S. THIS ALSO WORKS FOR ALL OTHER ANDROID TABLETS/PHONES!

Okay, I have flashed firmware .370 to my tablet (but used SGP312 instead of 311 which is the model of my tablet!), and I have that awful UI layout with the home key and back button of the bottom left and the drop down menu on bottom right! .109 update has popped up as well.
When/if I update to .109 (after root) will my model be SGP311?
I have rooted okay, but used doomlord xploit as the file you attached did not seem to work, and I have installed the recovery by NUT.
I now have the firmware for SGP311 (UK), but only a .ftf file (853,683kb). The directions above state you should have a zip file also

You might lose root with the OTA. The awful phone layout is a consequence of Google trying to unify the UI across Android devices. It's a bit better for devs, lot worse for users. But you eventually get used to it. With 4.4, even Settings app will have the giant phone UI.

Check my forum by searching XDA with device name or via threads started by me on my page.
I have given a rough guide links. Also in all partitionszio, there is a text file which corresponds to device partitions. Find system portion and only flash system. It should work.
Maybe my question have no relation with the topic but it's the only one topic I found about this phone. I wanted to ask how to move app on SD card with this phone. And if it need to root the device, how to root it if anyone hae tried/succeed yet? Thanks
