XDMService - Remote Control - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I have a question and hope I will get some answers. There is always a service running called XDMService or Remote Control.
What exactly is this service for and how I'm able to deactivate it completely?
Is this service might related to Software Update Service? Because I deactivated auto software updates and this service is still running.
Thanks for any advice

Ty. But I'm not sure if this is the right thing. That does eventually mean it's for some kind of synchronisation. But this tool seems to be not from google. I'm quite sure this service is related to Samsung or Google .
Is there a way to find out which app starts this service? Another question is how to stop this service from starting automaticly?

if you have root and ES task manager(my preference), you can manage start up programs.

if you have es task manager, once you open it and click on stat up manager, it'll ask you for root permission and you give it. that's it you'll see all the programs that start during system start up like you see in windows task manager. you can either disable or enable programs. but remember sometimes some system programs do not work if disabled! :good:

hey thats cool. didnt knew es file (edit: task; thats why manager can do this! thanks i will test this app again.
btw found something
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...i-stop-applications-and-services-from-running
some good infos here too. i used autostarts for disabeling it and it worked!
Thank you
Edit2: Yeah, ES Task Manager does the same job. But kind of sweeter looking.
Disabled DSMLawmo, Remote Controls, Software Update and few others. Restartef and works. Lots of more free RAM at boot.

[Q] There are Apps in the background

Dear Friends!
Glad to be here today (after 2 days! )
My dear Streaker is here!!
As the norm is, I have been busy tinkering with the stock material for couple o days, and I will continue to do so for some more time!
___________________________________________________________
Query: There are too many apps running (background) all the time!! I kill them, they resurrect!, How to do away with that?
Solution applied: Used Advanced task killer (but, apps resurrect!)
Another Solution tried: In Settings>Account & Sync settings> Unchecked Background data and Auto sync options. (Now, they dont connect to the net, but, they still restart!!)
Another Solution: Force close (from Manage apps) .. (Still same issue!)
Now, How can I tell the apps to come up only when I call them!?
(And some other apps I want to schedule them to come up every hour or so.. like my Gmail/FB)
____________________________________________________________
And, So far has been amazing experience!!
The screen is football field sized!! (Monster! yikes Scooby!)
Digging up all old posts to read some problems faced by new users..
Current hobby: Market and apps.
Future hobby: Roms and Flash!
Thank you all for your help!
care,
Sony.
Welcome to the cool kids club! I'm in a somewhat similar situation, I got my streak just before the massive snowstorm hit. Some of those apps need to be running... if you close some of them you may not get updates/notifications, or you can shut down your phone/data connection, or lose the use of multitouch.

from what i understand, froyo is really good with resource management and there is no need to constantly kill processes or apps, its best to just leave them unless your streak is slow like a snail

How?
@rptw
So, It wouldnt really matter if there are apps running in the BG, and they start by themselves too!?
care,
Sony.
well in terms of the laws of nature (in most cases) stuff doesnt happen spontaneously so i think its safe to assume that your app that "started by themselves" were probably opened somehow either by you directly or indirectly by something else. if, however, you have a large number of apps that have started that you dont recall opening, maybe something is wrong with your software and you shouldnt try to cover the problem with a task killer.
So, what next!?

So, Now, can you or other guys here please suggest how to go to the "root" of this problem!?
Ok.
Look, these apps are open right now!
Voice Search
Email
Messaging
Maps
Astro
Assistant free
I use the Adv Task Killer free.
(It says 7 apps killed and 180 MB free)
I open Adv task killer after 5 seconds.
and these apps are running!
Email
astro
Voice Search
Assistant Free
and I am sure, If I wait for some more time, the other apps will join in too!
(Now it says, 3 Apps killed, 171 MB free!!)

Sony.
have you tried using the stock app manager and killing the apps there? i just checked my phone and i have the same apps under the running tab using the stock manager, i think email and messaging are always running since you have push features on them, in terms of the others im not sure. whats so bad about email and messaging running anyways? im sure you use them often enough to not want to have to open and close them right?
Hey, you posted the same question over at Pocketables forum.
As stated earlier, 2.2 is really good at managing back ground tasks.
I can tell you if you use a task killer and you have a problem with an APP, which currently you do not, the programmer for the app probably will not help you till you remove the APP killer program.
What you might try to do is run though your menus and see what you have selected to run, such as locations and sync services and disable what you can. Also if you do not want some thing running, you may want to just uninstall it. I do understand that you want some programs but you only want them to run when you ask, not sure how to tell you to handle that.
But, are you seeing any difference when you have the background tasks disabled. Try to find the APK for the programs and rename them just to see if you have any issues.

[Q] News app misbehaves... can it be disabled?

I installed Watchdog Lite on my Tbolt and it constantly tells me that the News app is overstepping its bounds CPU-wise. I tell the monitor to kill the app but it starts back up again of its own accord.
Is there any way to disable this app without rooting my phone? Or even WITH rooting my phone? I'm not even using it anymore.

if you are rooted, titanium backup and 'freeze' the app or delete it completely.
but i would also check to make sure under sync settings it isnt set to sync.
You can try startup auditor and disable the app... if its a system app, I wouldnt touch it.
Thanks to you both for the suggestions. I've made sure it isn't syncing, and I installed the free version of Startup Auditor and sicced it on the app. We'll see what happens...
either uninstall it, or root and use titanium back up to freeze it.
Just to follow up, the News app hasn't been an issue since I took those measures earlier today. Thanks to all!
just wondering, what kind of readings were you getting from the app?

It was basically telling me that the app was exceeding CPU-usage limits. I don't recall noting quantitative information. Didn't really care, I just didn't want it sucking up battery for no reason.
what is the news app called in /system/app/ i cannot find it.
Dunno... I can't find it either.
Htc changed it now... Try htcgreader.apk **backup incase you come across a problem** i remember on my incredible there might be some sense stuff that relies on that apk....just saying..
yeah, like the weather.apk is required to view specific dates in the calander
Hi all...TBolt newbie here. I think the "news" app is bloatware as it was already installed with many other apps on my Verizon TBolt. Like an idiot, I subscribed to several news sources and now cannot remove them and the app continues to ask at numerous random times for more sources. I've tried killing the task with ES Task Manager, but it keeps re-initializing itself. Hopefully there's some way of getting rid of this intrusive piece of crapware, short of rooting or custom ROM, which I have no idea how to do!

So many applications running in the background

I couldn't find anything on this topic so I had to create a new 1 I'm sorry if I repeated.
There are always so many applications running in the background they take ram too.
Is it normal?
Has anyone found a solution if this is a problem?
What makes them running in fact what makes them start in the first place thanks in advance

use task killers, but AFAIK there is no need for that since android automatically kills unused apps.
just go to settings-application-running services and close the 1 u want to
simple
Thanks

I would suggest not using a task killer cause they suck but using android assistant its really cool and works well for a lot of things including killing tasks but more important use startup Auditor you can look up programs that are always running and in background and select to kill them at start up as well as keep them killed you can still open and use the apps it just keeps them from opening by them selves

try smart bar.
I use "autorun manager" to control which stuff works at startup.
i would suggest googling for android task killers and reading the lifehacker article about them, it is pretty well explained (sorry but I can't post links just yet)
Autorun manager isn't a task killer,so you can use it only for monitoring startup apps. This is a good alternative.
Hi every one
I downloaded the applications they are good but I didn't really got my answer.
The thing is that even when I turn the things off even after terminating the threads after a while they get started on their own why does this happens?

It sounds like you are using an app that is turning something back on. i.e. some app that uses google maps so that service is turned back on.

yeah i guess i'm obviously not sure.
right now there are atleAST 10 to 15 apps running in background.
i didnt even clicked them by any chance.
they all are consuming ram.
You could always use Titanium Backup and freeze Maps. I do this as soon as I am done with Maps - that way it is not able to start up again.

[Q] Autorun (Receiver) Managers are not working...

I tried many such managers (Gemini, Autorun Manager, Autostarts, ...) to switch off some receivers to prevent autostart. But it seems that no one of this apps are working on Xperia S.
All apps saying there is no single receiver registered in the system. I do not have any more idea what happen here. I contacted the author of Autorun Manager and he does not have an idea also. Does any of the devs know what Sony did in the system to prevent this apps to run properly?

Doesn't work for me on any of my xperia's.
Sorry to bump old thread but I'm still looking for a slution.
Same problem here. Neither Gemini App Manager nor ROM Toolbox seem to able to access app data. Gemini App Manager does not display the "Configure Autorun" option, and ROM Toolbox says "No receivers found". Is this an XPERIA-specific problem maybe? Quite annoying, as I would like to disable autostart apps that eat my memory and battery.

[Q]How and which service should I disable on reboot to avoid tracking?(Google Locati

on Manager).
Hey,
So, I've checked 'settings->apps->running' and I see that when I restart my phone the OS turn on Google location Manager, Google Play market, and some other thing.
I would really like if when I turn on my phone- no element could use my GPS unless I specifically tell it to run, then stop the usage when I tell it to close. Part of the tracking prevention, I imagine, will be done by disabling those services which are required for proper part functioning.
I suppose my questions are:
1) What services/elements should I disable?
2) How do I prevent them from running on startup?
3) How do disable parts of android to run on start up, in general?
Also I'd like to note that I would prefer not installing any apps or root the phone.
Thank you very much
UP.
(Damn, 4th page already. There sure is a lot of activity here).
For stopping any app on reboot you need to be rooted !!!
As you have to make changes in system files !!!
Without root access it’s not possible to stop a system app on startup...!

Also, if anyone has other Ideas (for instance doing it without root) feel free to post them.
The Best app is Sd maid just you have to disable autorun component with one click it’s an all in one app as i am using it...! download it from the given link:

Very intresting, thank you.
Anyone knows by any chance what other elements should be disabled so to prevent the activation of components that could theoretically be used for tracking (so that for instance the GPS or the WIFI or some motion sensors or perhaps some other information gatherer could not be turned on (even if the phone is infected by malware)) ?
1) Download disable service in Google Play
2) Swipe to system apps, navigate to Google Play Services
3) Uncheck all mdm.services (first few)
4) Uncheck NlpLocationRecevierService, GoogleLocationManagerService, GoogleLocationService
5) Uncheck any plus, drive or cast service if you’re not using them.
* GPS will still work as normal.

Thank you.
when you say that GPS works as normal, does it mean that only the physical component is working but no app can access it (not even deliberate navigation apps)?
Also, I'll check this "disable service " but funny thing, one of the reviewers on the market has left this remark:
"Nearly useless I thought that if I disable some services - they won't run ever again. But then I learned that it is not so, and the bad apps who's services you disabled can undo that easily. Even if they get executed without SU rights. For me that means that DisableServices is potentially useless. If you would like to reproduce what I'm talking about - install Yandex.Maps, disable com.yandex.auth.AuthentificationService Please, add an active Guard to protect services from getting re-enabled"
Is there some truth in it?
And again thank you(!), will do what you suggested.
