I'm a tmobile customer, and I logged on to AT&T's website yesterday to see how much it would cost me to switch and i was blown away at the prices - a 450 minute 5gb data plan was $90? that wasn't including unlimited weekends, 5000 night and weekend minutes.
did i click on something wrong or is that roughly how much people pay at at&t?

Mobile share 3 lines 10 GB 2 phones and a tablet insurance on all devices 210 bucks with taxes and fees
My plan is about $135 for 450 min+rollover, unlimited text and mobile to mobile, 3 GB data, and a 3 GB tablet plan

I'm in the same boat as OP - pondering a switch from Tmobile (and bringing over 2 other lines as well) but very unpleasantly surprised by how expensive AT&T would be. Even with my corporate discount, the best "deal" I can see for a family plan with 2 smartphones and 1 dumbphone is $130 for 450 min, unlimited text, and 300mb of data for each smartphone.
I pay $127 with tax. (25% corporate discount)
-Unlimited Voice
-Unlimited Text
-4GB data
-can up that by $20 to go to 6GB data but we weren't using it.
-Mobile Share Plan
T mobile has some of the best pricing around but not one of the best services around. At&t will be offering the same pre-paid and post-paid plans as T Mobile next year.

Assuming they match TMO's pricing and offer access to 4G/LTE on prepaid plans that's great news. Of course what would be even better would be if we could get AT&T to offer an unlimited data option once more. It would be great to stream Netflix and/or movie content from my home servers on some of the long drives I take during the summer without having to care about hitting any sort of overages.
I pay about $220 for 2 lines and an iPad mini with unlimited talk/text and 10gb of shared data.

thanks for the input, you guys are brave souls...
the thing that really irked me is even if i buy the phone at full price and go month-to-month, the overall price of service doesn't go down, although its pretty obvious that the prices are higher because you're getting the phone at a subsidized price.
i'm gonna stick with tmob, im gonna miss out on exclusives (like the one x last year and the black htc one this year) but its not worth the extra $$ for me...

Post paid is becoming a big rip off compare to prepay . For that reason I flashed my phone to Boost Mobile and haven't looked back. Sure I lose 4g, but it wasn't that fast anyways, and with poor wall penetration it was pretty much useless for me at home.

I could get 4 of them for significantly less than I'm paying Sprint for my 4 line family plan right now (all Evo 3Ds).
How hard would it be to activate a Sprint Evo 3D on Virgin Mobile?

What happens after that? Throttled, billed extra, cut off altogether, or what?
I think T-Mobile has an "unlimited" data plan that throttles after 5 GB for $30, so that might actually be a better deal.
But if we can use our existing Sprint Evo 3D on this without buying a new phone, that has to be considered too.
Same phone, same network, same service, half price to what we're paying right now. It's almost mandatory to consider it, lol.

My friend was wondering why they sent out texts about increases in plan rates If you change out your phone. Actually prices are going up for VM customers who change their phones after 5-27-2012. Now we know the reason for the price increase for service.
NM he's still on the $25 a month plan. So no changes if your on the $35 plan.
So I just did a quick comparison. Here's how it all stacks up:
Individual Plans:
Sprint: $80 (includes $10 smartphone fee) 450 minutes, unlimited text and data.
Sprint also has the same with 900 minutes for $100, and unlimited for $110.
Virgin Mobile: $35 300 minutes, unlimited texts, "unlimited" data (2.5 GB then throttled).
Virgin Mobile also has the same with 1200 minutes for $45, and unlimited minutes for $55.
T-Mobile: $30 100 minutes, unlimited texts and "unlimited" data (5 GB then throttled).
T-Mobile also has unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, and "unlimited" (2 GB then throttled) data for $60, and unlimited minutes and texts with 5GB then throttled data for $70.
Family Plans (4 line):
Sprint: 1500 shared minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited data $210 (includes $10 smartphone fees). They also have the same with 3000 shared minutes for $250, and unlimited minutes for $410.
T-Mobile: unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, "unlimited" (2 GB then throttled) data for $200.
T-Mobile also offers the same with 5GB then throttled for $230.
T-Mobile also offers unlimited minutes on the first 2 lines and 500 minutes on lines 3 and 4, with unlimited texts and "unlimited" (2 GB then throttled) data for $160, and unlimited minutes on the first 2 lines and 500 minutes on lines 3 and 4 with unlimited texts and 5 GB then throttled data for $190.
T-Mobile also offers 10 GB then throttled data plans with unlimited minutes and unlimited texts for $290, and unlimited minutes on the first 2 lines but only 500 minutes on lines 3 and 4 (with unlimited texts) for $250.
Virgin Mobile: I could not find any family plans on their site.

I just started a new two year one day ago, havent recieved my phone in the mail yet called customer service, asked for retention and was connected to a retention specialist. I asked for the android preferred dataplan 5 gigs for 20 per month. he told me my account was unable to recieve this plan. i explained to him that ''my friend started a new 2 year a few days ago and got on this dataplan'' he said there was nothing he could do to get me on this plan. he then offered me the 5gig plan that also features hotspot thats usually $35 for $30. (this would be a good deal if i didnt know about the $20 5gig plan) but i declined. I politely asked for his supervisor. His supervisor told me there was nothing he could do and I ended the call from there. I waited 30 seconds, called back, got a different retention specialist, politely asked for the preferred dataplan $20month for 5gigs. He pulled up my account and told me he'd be able to apply it to my account and had to get it approved by his supervisor and put me on hold for a minute. he came back on the line telling me his supervisor approved it and i now have 5gigs of data for 20 bucks a month.
TL : DR version: If you call and ask for it and they say no, keep calling until you get someone who will work with you. They DO have the power to do it.
Just called up T-Mobile and spoke with a rep. She knew exactly what the plan was and said it was a promotional offer currently being given out. I already had the 5 gig plan a month at $30 with hot spot now I got 5 gigs minus hot spot for $20. Bringing me to $76 a month total for unlimited talk + text and 5 gig data. You do have to agree to a new 2 year contract though.
Thanx for the info.

Anybody know if this works on value plans? I tried calling, but they said they didn't have it.
It'll work on value, kind of. It's a glitch at times really. If you're not gonna use tether, it's worth to save the $5 a month. If you want tether, pay the $5 to have it hassle free. 20 bucks per month for unlimited data (throttled at 5gigs instead of 2)
I been with T-Mobile since voice stream left briefly for Nextel but returned to T-Mobile right after. My original plan was a promo plan 1000 minutes unlimited nights and weekends for 39.99 unlimited text for 15 and unlimited data at 20. My plan never went past 78 bux after discounts. I just recently changed my plan to unlimited and throttled data which I don't mind. I hardly go over 2 gigs anyway. Just didn't like the fact when I changed my plan to unlimited it increased by 10 bux. Now I'm back to what I'm comfortable paying for my service. I feel like I won because of the better plan.

You must not value your job much, you should know better then to offer to access someone's account without speaking with them directly. You should help him by telling him to call instead of putting your job at risk as your not supposed to access others accounts unless they are in store with you or on the phone with you.

As a Vibrant owner, I'm of course using t-mobile. My 2 year contract is up, and I want to pay the lowest amount. I barely use my call minutes, and want unlimited texts and data. What plan should I go with?
The Tmobile site makes this confusing, because I see a $30per month plan with unlimited texts and date, and 100 minutes, but I can't switch to it.
That's because its prepaid.
For now I'm on T-Mobile prepaid $30, 1500 voice/text combo and 30mb data.
Not much data but I always use WiFi.
$49.99.
Classic plan?
500 Minutes, Unlimited (2GB 4G) data & Unlimited texts? :|
The online $30 plan is a special online only and I believe requires a new prepaid phone or acct/number.
I currently use unl talk text and data with first 100mb at 3/4g. I have gone over the 100mb a few times and don't really notice any decrease in speed. There is a $45 unl talk text and data from Walmart straight talk. They use tmo and at&t. You just have to get a sim that works on tmo from them. This will also require unlocking and a new number.

I don't know the prices, but you could try simple mobile if they're in your area. It's the gsm equivalent of metro/cricket. I believe they run off t mobile towers too. You might have to unlock it though.
100 minutes unlimited text and 5 GB 4g plan does exist. It's only available at Walmart! Google it. I have Simple Mobile $40 unlimited everything plan for about a year and it's decent, but network speeds are about 120 kbps...SM also has a $50 unlimited full 4g speed plan

Yeah, I'm doing the switch next month to this but be forewarned, if you use Wi-Fi calling, it still counts against your allotted 100 minutes. I did some research on this a couple days ago and you could add another 1500 minutes (I think) for $10 extra. You can't beat that deal
OP here. I made my switch today, and something funny happened.
I went to the TMobile store, told them my 2-year contract was up, and I want to be on a monthly plan. The store representative asked, "why?" and I told him I'd rather pay $50 per month than $90. He was confused and said I had to call customer service to switch. Whatever.
I got back home, called customer service, and they transferred me to a call center which based on the accent and forced "Americanisms" is probably in India. Just to see if I could get away with it, I told them I wanted the $30 per month plan, which is supposed to only be for new accounts. The rep on the phone said OK, and now I pay $30 per month for 100 voice minutes, and unlimited text and data!
woohoo!
That's a good plan. The first 5gb at 3/4g speed, then they throttle back however I have the $50 unl talk+texts and 100mb data @3/4g. I go over 100mb all the time and rarely notice speed reduction except for downloading large files, but that's what WiFi is for.

Hi mate, decent deal. I've got an S3 on T-Mobile and I'm paying £26 per month... Free phone, Unlimited text, 300 mins, 750mb data.. bought from web with cashback every few months, totaling to around £24 per month. Decent deal, for £28 I could've got 600 mins, unlimited data, unlimited text from orange from the web also.. So you could've got a better network with more mins at same price :s PM me if you've not activated the sim and you could give back and get a better contract :good:
M concern was not to have to deal with the cashback hastle... I have read a lot of bad reviews people having great difficulties redeeming these special redemptions and cashback offer, for this reason I just decided to hit the nail on the head and ignore these nonsense deals. Another reason I went for Three was because they will soon be getting the 4G network aswell as EE as they have bought some of their stuff. Im hoping I will soon be able to have unlimited 4g on my Galaxy S3!

Hmmm, I have seen an offer very similar to this but they want £29 upfront which actually makes it about £32.20 a month. I was very tempted by a £26 a month offer from T Mobile with 1.5 gb of data but I just think that nothing beats unlimited data plan, especially with Three where they do not actually slow down speeds, I believe they just give out warnings.

My wife and I are considering switching to T-Mobile when our Verizon contract runs out in June (tired of paying $100+ more a month for Verizon, especially since I have a funny feeling our grandfathered unlimited is on borrowed time). Right now I'm running an unlocked, rooted VZW Note II running CleanROM 4.5. Is there a way to permanently flash the phone over to T-Mobile (radios) if we decide? I really want the AWS bands so I'm not gimped with EDGE speeds as I am today (running the VZW radios/firmware).
So...is this possible?
Thanks!
No not really. You could try this link below. I've pmed the Dev (i pulled the Verizon qcn he needed) and he said it may work, but if not just restore the backup you make before.
Having said that I'm making the same switch and I've decide to sell my note, buy at mobile one under contract,(200 on there website right now) then pay the 200 to switch to a value plan.
So I'll pay 400 for a t mobile note and have the 50 unlimited plan. I can easily sell mine for 500 to 550 so I'll make 100 bucks

South Carolina and they're fine here. Obviously not as good as Verizon, but i stay in the city 90 percent and on my wife's t mobile note they're great. In NC she had better signal then I did. On a plus side they're customer service is a million times better then Verizon could dream about being. I'd switch just for that

Bid on a new Verizon Note II for $470. So how does the T-Mobile purchase & ETF work? As far as I remember you will need to pay tax over full price (not discounted) plus tax for ETF as well. Please let me know how it goes (actually money you'll need to spend for your plan). Thanks.
verizon's note II will accept a t-mobile microsim and work as a phone right away. you'll have to root it to add the proper apn for edge data, and you'll get t-mobiles 3g on the farmed 1900 bands.
here in SoCal, i get 3g about 70% of the time

So aside from being locked into 2g if you aren't in a reframed 19900 band location does txt and mms work normally? Im primarily on wifi 95% of the time and switching out to TMO would save me over $100/mo for 2 lines I have with VZW. I popped in a TMO microsim but it wasnt an active one the network so all I got was the "welcome to tmobile" prompt for programming.
Using Jellybeans 13 with APN Editor hack. It picked up the GSM and correct APN from what I saw.
Yes it is possible to take your Note 2 from VZW to T-Mobile, Switched weeks ago
Yes it is possible, I've been running on a T-Mobile custom ROM now for the last 8 weeks and going back & forth between VZW and Solavei (T-Mobile).I have been running the Tweaked 1.5 and just recently it updated to Tweaked 1.6 both are for the T-Mobile Note2 sch-T889.
It has been flawless and I never pass up the opportunity to brag about this and show it off to both Verizon customers and T-Mobile customers
as well. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is the best Android handset I've ever owned... It will a pretty Awesome Android handset to even come close to the Note2's abilities and excellent engineering.. So a huge Thank You to Samsung and hey "Verizon Suck It" your rule of consumer manipulation and robbery will come to an end one day.... Jerks

Oops missed this. I paid 278 plus tax at Walmart then 200 fee plus tax so like 500 for a brand new phone.
We did great for my wife. 278 plus tax, but got a50 gift card. Then 200 fee, but called them and they waived it. Something about a remorse wave. So 250 basically. I'm waiting for my bill with fee to see if theyll do it again.
By the way with my discount I pay 85 for unlimited everything! Coverage is no where near Verizon, but what do you expect. But the big issue is wifi calling. In the hospital I work no one gets service, but me!

How did your wife get such a great deal? Could you please share some technique to let them waive the ETF? If that works then I'll definitely grab one or two. Thanks.
The gift card was just a promo Walmart was running. There fee there really isn't atip. When my first bill came in it had the 200 fee, and two months of service (done weird way it billed after getting my discount put on).
I just called and explained I switched from Verizon to save money and asked if they could discount some of these fees. I was hoping for activation fee waived and maybe a small percent off. Instead she said she could refund the 200

So do you need to be with TMO or you can switch to others? The $200 was for ETF?

Thank you for the information.
I took my phone to one of the repair store. They didn't have to root the phone and they are still able to add the new APN.
I can surf the web now. However, the picture text message is not working. Do you how to fix it? Can you please help?
Best Regards,

And the 50 dollar unlimited only gives you 500 mb data. Realistically unlimited talk, text, and data will be 70 a month. Or you can get 2.5 gigs of data for 60 per line. I just left t-mobile, be prepared that your service will not work indoors in a lot of places as they don't not have. Low frequency like Verizon and att. Plus you will run into a lot of dead zones if you travel. Otherwise it is a really cheap plan. I just can't stand paying for a phone and unable to use it for half a day.

Even though this thread is like, 6 months old, I thought I would add my .02.
I recently purchased a GoPhone sim for AT&T prepaid. $60 month unlimited talk/text & 2gb data. I am getting HSPA+ speeds with my Verizon GN2. While it is NOWHERE near the LTE speeds I get on Verizon, it is also 1/2 the cost. plus, if needed, I can purchase extra data at $10 per gig. I average 2-3gb per month now, & my plan with unlimited data, 900 texts & 1000 minutes is $112.
If I sell my Verizon phone & buy a AT&T N2, I will get LTE with GoPhone.
Tried tmobile for 3 hours with a brand new note 2 and demanded refund. The service was awful... I mean horrible. Picked up a used note 2 and stayed with vzw. Worst phone experience ever. Run far away from tmobile.
