im currently having issues with my panel. checking out multiple threads i finally come to a conclusion... my screen is giving out. there is a certain area where if pressed, i hear the screen creek a bit and i feel it dip in. im assuming this is the cause of my touch screen not responding in certain areas, because its not grounded all the way around. my dilemma is this:
1) its not that bad, so i could just use it till it gets worse
2) get a replacement for my phone
my issue with 2 is that im gonna get a refurbished phone.... ive always had issues with refurbs. i used to work for verizon and once people got a refurb, it was over. they couldnt get a working phone at all after that. a little help or insight on other possible options would be very helpful. thanks in advance guys!

If you decide to keep your phone, you can either have a cell phone shop fix it for you. You are looking around $100 - $140.
If you decide to fix it yourself, a screen kit goes online for around $30 - $50. That and if you've ever worked on a pc(preferably laptops), then this will just be like working on a smaller version. There are how to guides online as well as youtube videos.
Also, I heard from another member who's having their phone replaced that Verizon/Asurion are out of stock on Thunderbolts and will issue a comperable model(probably a charge or revolution).

That is the At&t version. Won't work on T-Mobile 3g
Why would you want a gs3 anyway? The screen is really bad, the white looks like blue! I'm hoping the rumored HTC One X + comes out soon for T-Mobile.

and that blue saturation thing can be fixed if you use a kernel with voodoo color control in it
For the record, that 1900mhz is being deployed at the moment, currently active in my area, so what network it's from shouldn't matter soon.

It works for my area even though it's att, I don't see the blue saturation on my friends s3. Also even though I don't like touchwiz there is cm9. No way you can tell me it's not the best phone out right now. Then again I guess that's what opinions are for.

I wish 1900 was active in my area (NJ/NYC), but it isn't. It's only active in a handful of places. If it was, I would have the One X already. I went to the T-Mobile store with cash in hand ready to pay full price for the gs3. My Amaze is good, but the short battery life is frustrating. I also would love a larger screen. After holding the two phones side by side, I cannot get past the blue screen when it should be white. Open a web page and compare the backgrounds of the Amaze or One X to the Gs3 and it is painful. I decided to suffer with my Amaze until HTC or someone else releases a new flagship with a great battery and a screen that shows white as white. Please be the One X+!!!.

I think the device in store had issues, I have a tmo s3 that's as white as white can be, no blue tint what so ever, so you should check back, even have em check the device you get specifically before you leave the store to be sure it's okay, mine is, well, PERFECT.
And I'm in NYC, it's not covering the entire NYC area as yet but my area is, so eh that's good enough for me.

I have checked multiple s3s from all the carriers, it's all of them. I am not imagining this, its a well documented problem. Just Google Galaxy s3 blue screen. If I had never seen the screen on my Amaze or the One X, I could probably have lived with it. But having seen what a proper display looks like, I can't bear to own an inferior product, even with its other advantages that I crave. For some people its not a big deal. I wish it wasn't a big deal to me, because other than the screen, the gs3is awesome!
Where exactly in NYC do you get 3g on 1900? I have some unlocked world phones I want to go test!! Thanks for the info!
Edit- after reading some of those posts I found on Google, it seems someone has found a solution to the problem.

Next time I'm in a cell phone store I'll try it. I wonder if that will drain the battery faster though?

I have a Galaxy S3. The screen is beautiful. I'll let you know when I see the blue saturation on my whites that you were talking about.

this made me LOL...i have a launch s3, build date 6/16, and its flawless. never seen blue whites or anything of the sort. when a phone sells 10 million units in what, 2 months? theres bound to be some defective devices. btw, hows HTC doing these days? i hear they're posting losses
and if you think the amaze/one x has a better screen than the s3, see your local optometrist guy, you may have cataracts, or even worse, you may be blind

The easiest way to spot the blue tinted background is to open the browser to google, then hold the.phone next to an HTC or other brand with a good LCD display also on Google

I know what blue tint he's talking about, it's one of the things I hated most on my S2 and the Nexus had the same issue, though not so bad due to the higher pixel density but it was still there and when the screen was dimmed it got purple-ish, but as I said, the S3 totally changed that, that's why I give Sammy props on the screen quality, even the gorilla glass is flawless, two weeks without a screen protector and not a single nick, the first things I did when I first received my S3 was do the black background test like on the s2, it passed flawlessly, did the grey background test, same thing, did the play store test (my own personal observation/test I use), aced that as well, then I did the blank/black picture test, same result, I dimmed the screen to the lowest, blacks were still black, clean and well saturated, crisp cand clean, I even did the HD video test from the youtube app, it walked all over it, even though the pixel density is down a few pixels compared to the nexus, I have to say the screen is the best I've seen in a long time, hands down.

didnt have a nexus, but i did have an s2 for a few days and was disappointed i had to send it back because of the lines and blobs issue. this is my first REAL experience with a sammy phone and im not disappointed at all. your experience makes me feel a bit better about going with the amaze, but honestly, after almost 2 months with the s3, htc is going to have to REALLY impress me to get my money again. word is, sammy is working on the next GED nexus and im leaning towards it as my next phone.
either way, the screen on the s3 is untouchable imo. hell, even dedicated htc fanboy GG returned his one s to get the s3. to me thats saying something about how awesome the s3 is. if anyone is considering it, grab and you wont be disappointed :highfive:

The display issue on the s2 was the reason I left it for the amaze, the nexus was nice but I wasn't too big a fan then, when I went back to it before the s3, well it suited my basic needs since I just lost interest in fancy hardware and features, lol only reason I got the s3 was cause my buddy didn't like it so I gave him my nexus for it since he wanted back the nexus and well I'm so far satisfied, none of the old s2 or nexus issues/slack offs and well I don't use my phone much for anything but the basics to really care after running all my test and checking the device out.
I just want JB now and it's complete, though well my phone is so damn smooth I don't think I'll notice much of a difference.
Hey guys, did anyone notice a positive change or fix on the AT&T HTC One's camera with today's update OTA 4.3??
I wanted to know so I won't go back to stock ROM for nothing,
I'm running CleanROM 6.0 with android 4.3 and Sense 5.
At least in this ROM there is no change in the camera,
but I still have hope that in today's update there is a change/fix.
There was no improvement for me at all.
My wife's phone did not have the issue, and I have even heard that some people who didnt have the issue before, now do.
I am curious as to what the actual remedy is. Some say hardware, others say firmware.
Id be more irritated about it if it affected anything other than low-light photos for me. But I am still quite pissed as my only option is to send it in to HTC and wait without a phone for a couple weeks. I should be able to walk into any AT&T store and swap it with a new device. A hardware defect is a hardware defect. AT&T should fix the issue in the store. The only people I know who dont have the issue, have a launch device.

Yeap, been looking for some opinions and there is no fix.
Well... better luck for next update on 4.4,
wich is going to be in 4-6 months I think haha!
Wasn't completely sure if this would be more appropriate for General or Q&A so MOD's feel free to move if necessary and I apologize.
So I'm VERY excited to go and pick mine up from Verizon tomorrow (had to wait for payday ) but was curious, how sometimes you hear "oh some of the white version of such and such phone had this issue but the black version did not." I'm pretty skeptical on the validity of such claims, but HAS anyone noticed a difference? I know some people are reporting issues like screen not being as bright/sharp, some people saying they've seen lag/stutter, and others saying they were blown away and absolutely no complaints. I know that no 2 phones will perform exactly the same but what color did everyone end up getting and have you had any issues or not? Seeing if there was any kind of pattern developing, and since I'll have a case I'm not TOO concerned about a particular color but leaning towards the black due to the the ugly white bottom bezel on the white G3.
My white one has absolutely no issues whatsoever. I mean I did see a lil sharpness issues, but I also wear glasses so it could just be human error lol
I was originally getting the black, but changed my mind once I held the white one. I have no issues or stuttering. It does heat up when downloading all my apps but it didn't get any hotter than my old Galaxy Nexus.
White and perfect. No issues at all!
Black one here, within 2 hours after first startup it randomly restarted and bootlooped after that. Since then I have restored it and didn't make it through setup, it now wont turn on at all. Convienently right after verizon closed. I hadn't even begun to put my apps on it or anything was just messing around in settings and stuff. Hope getting another at verizon isn't a problem and hopefully it has no issues .
no issues with the black one here.
Rooted a white one and black one right after each other with no issues so far. Getting great battery life and performance on both.

no issues with the black one, it is the same phone, different color cases is all. you have to remember that this is the first North American release revisions of these phones that are "official" Any tech related gadget be it a phone or a computer part will have issues when they first release.

Did you happen to enable ART runtime? After I enabled ART I had couple lockups, and it restarted like 6 times while I was doing titanium restore (not sure if backing up the apps using Dalvik and restoring them while ART is enabled is a NONO but it might be) but the lockups I had I wasn't doing a restore. I factory reset, and didn't enable ART this time, and have had no issues.

Nope did not enable art, didn't root it happened right after I switched the lock screen unlock animation to circle. I got a reboot and a green screen saying kernel crash and from there I never had it start up to where I could do anything.
I've yet to have any issues with my black version. Even have it rooted and running ART with no problems. I'm starting to think this may just be a luck of the draw type thing.

I agree, anything new being mass produced/release there will inevitably be some kinks to work out. I just wanted to see if maybe there would be an emerging pattern. Definitely didn't want to get my phone and later find out "this color case had a slight defect causing X problem." Especially since this is the first time I've gotten a phone right when it was released been trying to be as informed as possible. I appreciate the feedback everyone! It does seem to just be luck of the draw at this point (which is more or less what I was expecting), but keep em coming if you'd like! :good:

funny I like the white bezel. It's a different look than all boring black or all boring white.

Oh I understand. Generally I wait a few months before grabbing up a device. Give everyone time to find the issues and get the manufacturers to fix them. However, last time I did that was with the S4, and it cost me the ability to unlock the bootloader. So...here I am.
My white one doesn't overheat or have much UI lag, but it scores below the GS4 in AnTuTu X and some games don't run as well as expected. Have a feeling that the SoC isn't ramping up as it should.

I'm with you on this, I wear glasses too... I do notice sharpness issues. I don't know if this is due to the IPS display or the fact that nothing is capable of 2k resolution yet.
Although I don't think it matters much what color they've decided to make the phone, anything is possible I guess. That said my White one is running great.

I have a black G3. Rooted and running fine. Had problems with ART causing lockups, lag, etc. Went back to Dalvik and the phone is sweet.
