Yes I know, everybody is eager to get the next Android Version, but lets be honest: Some People like Custom Roms for their stability and Day to Day Performance.
I'm still on a neat Rom xxemr2 because any other "update" to Firmware with lower changelog would have required a wipe and its pretty decent, even if Not perfect as a daily driver.
Now xxufme3 leak was Released at Same time as XXEMRA with highest changelog on 4.1.2 so far. Unfortunately the leak has Some known issues (Battery for Some guys, Sound for others, and so on).
So any of the "chefs" like to take on XXEMRA? Thinking of sale or wanam, as their Roms have been proved to Provid the speed and stability I'm looking for so far...
Would be happy if XXEMRA would be available as a neated or wanamed Rom without all the bloat
Changelogs mean very little .

Is there any link where I can read whats actually included in that changelog? Anyway, all the fuzz about the leak seems to keep devs from the current update, thats why I tried to get it some attention
Edit: To prevent misunderstandings, tried to Google for exact changelog content several times, no luck.
So if anybody could provide me a link, I would be VERY glad!

the "R" is out of sequence. These are usually Vodafone builds that are actually older in changes than everything else coming around at that time. I prefer to pretend R's dont exist

So higher changelog means older content? Do Not like Branded stuff as well, but thats hard to believe, what gets you to that Statement, rootSU?
XXEMR2 had even newer packages included that some xxemb builds, so please explain, just Do Not understand...
Does anybody Do diffs for that stuff?
Always hard to get a decent answer, apart from default "running smooth" or "Do Not like this" Statements...

Experience gets me to that statement.
Just because it's newer (therefore has a higher changelog) doesn't mean it always has the latest stuff. The last MR2 had older SQLlite I think and some other stuff too
Forget about R's. R is not a month. The character where R is, is supposed to be a month (A-L). Only vodafone have these R's. No one really knwos what they are or why, but previous MR builds, even though newer than other builds, have had older components. Maybe because they're worked on for longer or delayed in release? Who knows?! I see them as invalid.
Alright, so how to really get to know that? By doing comparison of Files? How Do the devs Do that? Like to get a little deeper, but Do Not know where to Start...
Or has anyone the habit to compare?
How Do you know about the month naming? Any more Info on that?
Everyone knows.

I didn't forget. I actually didn't know for a fact that was true. It makes sense but the problem for me was that A was 4.0.4 too which always threw me.
Where you get such as A and B for a firmware version it used to signify a major firmware update to that version so with F being 4.2.2 you could also later in the release get a G if there was a major update to that firmware version as there are a few unofficial releases of 4.2.2
Such as the most recent unofficial leak I know of being i9300XXUFME3 (Israel version) 4.2.2 the official releases could easily be F or G.
4.2.1 was also F...
I do find it a little inconsistent. I don't remember there being much drastic between XXALEF and XXBLFB

Hi, i just got my new AT&T Atrix 4G that i bought in amazon and i already unlocked it and rooted it using the method describe in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15930466
But now i cant decide which rom is the best. I'd like to try the official update from Motorola's site (cause i kind of like the motoblur thingy) which is a zip file and im use to update roms in other android phones from a zip file, but iv read some disturbing posts about ppl bricking their phones and id really don't want that happening to me
Questions:
1) Is it safe for me to download that update file from the Motorola site to use it and test it?
2) What is the best Stable and Fast rom ATM?
I really love cyanogen, my wife has a Motorola DEXT and i love how it looks and works, but iv also seen these other roms like the alien one and others in the forums, so far iv seen like 6 and i still dont know which one is the best.
Oh and i almost forgot, heres some relevant info about my phone:
System version: 4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US
Baseband version: N_01.77.15P
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-00007-g527fe10
Build number: OLYFR_U4_1.8.3

Oh that is a pretty damn nice post, but still remains one question. The post describe how to switch between different roms and official roms, but it doesn't say anything about switching from the official froyo 2.2.2 to the official Gingerbread 2.3.4
1) Don't install any official Motorola updates I'm not sure if this is a problem anymore but once you install the official 4.5.9.1 (Gingerbread) update from Motorola you can't downgrade without risking bricking your phone. Just skip any updates and install the rom of your choice.
2) If you like Motorola based gingerbread check out Aura or The Dark Side (Based off Aura + themed with some improvements). Alien and Homebase aren't being updated anymore so I wouldn't suggest them. Ninja is being updated soon so you might want to try that once it's updated as it's pretty out of date right now. There's also a lot of other roms out there but they aren't very popular.
If you like CM7 on your wife's phone then defiantly get it. I run it and I love it, so far the stable build doesn't have fingerprint support but the nightlies and past 2 weeklies have, they'll probably release a new stable release soon. Very fast, good battery life, lots of features, stable.
And as far as Kernels use faux123's or Clemsyn's (Based off faux123's with some/improvements). Whether you want overclocked or not is up to you, I use faux123's CM7 Kernel 0.2.2 1.0 Ghz as I don't notice a real world performance difference between 1.0 Ghz, and 1.3/1.45 Ghz and the battery life is better but it's all preference.
Also make sure you have Romracer's latest recovery.
Thank you very much a question tho, why Romracer's? i currently have CWM that got installed once i rooted my phone, and btw where do i find those nightlies?
oh and one more thing, i dont know if you notice but my Build number is OLYFR_U4_1.8.3 and the one in faux123's says [<{ ATT CyanogenMod 7 (ATT, INTL Unified) }>] for cyanogen, should i use that one regardless of my build number?

You find a thread a couple of posts down (if that's too difficult I can paste the link for you, we do not condone people getting tired by looking themselves..) about those nightlies.
A little advice (if I may): if your post doesn't include a modification to the phone's operating system / a Rom / a significant fix to something that a lot of people can apply on their phones AND /OR your post includes one or more questions then it should be in the Questions & Answers section of this forum.
Also check the noob guide in General, right at the top. All the good information you need is there.

If you want to play it safe or if you don't know much about flashing and don't want to brick your phone then stay stock or close to stock. Also if you want webtop and fingerprint scanner stay close to stock.....for me motoblur is very nice but it slows down the device alot and so I try to do without it.
I would recommend Home base ROM or CM7 beta2 but these might make you lose some features but if you can live without them you're going to like how smooth they are.
CM7 is available with working FP scanner -- install the latest weekly build! I've been on CM since the first beta back in September and I haven't looked back!
XDA doesn't allow "which ROM is best?" threads.

Nothing (except kernel) actually changed from 406.
It's not really surprising that little has changed, I believe you've installed the pkg, can you confirm?
I wont be actually installing it for another 12-18 hours. Prelim reports are that the baseband is GAUSB1A1406214-xx
that 2 is completely out of place in an otherwise consistant bb string
GAUSB1A1406214
Right inside new BB.
Clean stock ROM possible?
Hello
My 2 cents: I think an "clean up" stock 407 stock ROM would be excellent:
- cut the Olleh apps
- more system languages
- swype with more languages
- rooted
Basically nothing fancy, just an easy flash on top the stock 407 to make it more appealing to international users.
Thanks
robert
Regardless of the changes actually in it, they decided to number it in a stupid way to differentate it.
Who knows why, but it's obviously different (very least in the version string)
It at least fun and gives some ideas about mbn signing system.
Actually, only signing parts and bb number changed.

Anyway, I will watch out whether patch will be announce by Olleh or not... as I ALREADY COMPLAINT STRONGLY !!!
I've been running this ROM today and the only problem I encountered was with google video. It seems to think my device is rooted but it isn't. Any ideas how to fix this? I would really like to watch movies on this screen.

I did a binary diff of it myself and wow you're right. There's like only 2-3 files that arnt either: identical, or less then a dozen bytes changed. Does not explain the stupid 406(2) version in the BB though, they really got lazy.
There's bound to be a reason that they bothered having to push a (nearly identical) version though their beta testers though. As it takes 20 or so days for them to QA before releasing anything.
I'm quite surprised that wifi issue somehow got through QA.
MMI could go unnoticed, as it one operator version, but that?
The only thought - they paid a bit to devs to sell stock leftovers, declaring that Streak has not very outdated Gingerbread.
Next logical - no intl 00 version will ever be released.

I'm going to generalize, so this concepts aren't always 100% true but the majority of times they'll be correct. Generally, from HTC they release two types of OTA updates. 1) Only minor software updates. 2) Update both the kernel, android system, custom recovery, radio (sometimes bootloader and pri).
When the OTA updates are of the 1st situation, they are very minor and usually don't have *significant* impact on any part of the device. Essentially only patch bugs or glitches in HTC's bundled Sense/3rd party apps.
When the 2nd situation for OTA occurs, these updates are usually larger and more important. The impact on the device can be much larger as both the kernel and the system are being updated together.
In the 2nd situation, most of the time you'll want to make sure the kernel being loaded matches the version of system software being loaded. Sometimes they are backward/inter compatiable and sometimes they are not. Best practice is to keep the kernel/system software in sync.
In addition, for the 2nd situation, if a new kernel is released, HTC has *roughly* 30 days (not a hard number) to release the source code for the updated kernel. Until the kernel source is released, it will be very hard for developers to release customized versions of the new kernel.
Hope that helps!
joey,
thanks you've helped me so much going back to my Moment days. so to sum it all up, if I want a Rom with the updated 217, ,i need to go through the process of updating then unlock again or whatever?

Where are you located?
Is your tab wifi only?
If there's an update available for your model but you can't get it yet via OTA, you should
be able to get it using Kies (you'll have to do a reset on the tab first).
You can also flash it using Odin (again, IF there's an update available for your model. If there is,
you should be able to get the file from the sammobile site).

I've been having just this discussion with Samsung, and following a long phone call to Mobile Support they have said that they have no plans for the ICS upgrade for Baseband Version P7500XXKL3. Or put another way, despite spending full price of £659 for the 64gig 3G vesion last year, we can get stuffed zs they have our money.
I find that attitude galling as my sons P7510 was updated ages ago......
Contact Mobile Support and make a lot of noise, and then maybe they will sort out whatever problem they have with the modem firmware and we'll get an update.
I would do a custom ROM but I'm worried I'll screw the Tab up and brick it
Well, I think flashing some of the custom rom is the easiest solution for Your question. If You follow the guidelines how to do it, I
think there's no real threat of damaging Your tab. But of course the choice is Your's...

There are Samsung Stock P7500 ICS ROMS for Italy, Baltics, Turkey and India over at samsung-updates.com. I doubt that they would stop there and never carry on for the rest of the countries. These were released in July and August.

If it is a UK board, you "should" be able to upgrade. Depends on such a large number of things, mentioned in quite a few threads in this forum. But if it is "standard" UK P7500, then it could be rooting, non-official ROM, and so on...
The sammobile/samfirmware site mostly has the latest and greatest. If you do not see it there, it just is not available yet (mostly, Canada is excluded there, BTW).

p7500XXKL3 GALAXY
HI guys, i too have the following model- P7500XXKL3 and am desperate to upgrade my tab to ICS.
Can anyone tell me where to download the upgrade?
So I've been on a slim-stock rooted ROM (I believe this one) of OB1 variety (Lollipop 5.0) and figured why the hell not update to the newest 5.1.1 base since I've been back into phone stuff trying to get my dad's new T-Mo S4 all freshly rooted and updated .
I was thinking of installing this OJ4 (5.1.1) ROM but then noticed that the current modem/kernel/stock .tar files in this wonder thread here say NH4 is the newest version and there's no mention of neither OJ4 nor OB1...which made me have an utter "WTF" moment. Why doesn't that list have either of them on there? My phone's current baseband/moden is OB1, which is what one'd expect from a OB1 ROM without its modem separately updated...but why are NEITHER of them in that list??
Someone please tell me I'm not the only one who finds that downright strange or could help shed light on this mystery, thanks!
TL;DR= Trying to update to OJ4 (5.1.1) and not sure if I have to THEN update everything I can to NH4 after the fact.
