Install custom rom (s-on) - HTC EVO 3D

i am noob here, so i need a little help.
after reading many guides and watching videos, i rooted my htc evo 3d gsm using htcdev method.
flashed clockworldmod recovery v 5.0.2.0
installed supersu v1.30
now my phone is unlocked with s-on
i did a nandroid backup
tried to install a custom rom by wipping all 3 datas
installed this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161968
but nothing happened.
i m still running the stock rom.
I found these instructions but couldnt understand them
Code:
- Extract boot.img from zip and put into your folden when you have fastboot.
- Put rom into sd
- Full wipe from recovery
- Flash rom
- Flash boot.img with an erase cache before and after boot flash
can anyone help me plz
thanx in advance

The easiest method available is to flash 4EXT recovery and turn on smartflash in options. this way you wont need to flash boot.img every time you install a rom.
If you still want to know what that guy was trying to say then read on.
during unlocking you must have used adb.exe and fastboot.exe files. you need to extract boot.img file from your ROM zip and put it in the folder where adb and fastboot files are located.
after that open cmd and navigate to that folder. then connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn off phone and hold power+vol down to boot into bootloader and select fastboot from menu)
the phone should now show "FASTBOOT USB". now enter this command in cmd without the inverted commas: "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
it should something like sending and write OK in cmd
then reboot phone.
P.S. that rom is very similar to stock rom with little visual differences. check in settings>about phone>software number.. if it shows skydragon3D then your rom flashed correctly

thank you so much man

CWM 4.0.1.5 not working with latest EVO

I just got a replacement phone from Sprint...
I had to downgrade using the RUU posted in here in order to use the HTC Unlocker (See Sticky).
When I tried to fastboot the CWM image 4.0.1.5 or the latest 5.0.2.0 and go into recovery, my phone just reboots.
I fastboot 'ed 4.0.1.4 and It comes up fine.
Just a heads up...
Isn't the latest version of CWM 5.0.2.0? Have you tried to use that?
no go on 5.0.2.0

With the 4.0.1.4 can't load any roms... Random lock ups and freezes after FRESH and Warm install.
No Rom for me I guess :-(
Don't use CWM. Use TWRP and see if it works.
Also, you're doing 'fastboot flash recovery.img' and 'fastboot boot recovery.img' right?

I did fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (The filename was actually different)
I did NOT do fastboot boot recovery
I just selected bootloader - recovery...
CM works as long as it is 4.0.1.4
TWRp works fine... I just can;t flash any roms.. The two I tried seem to install fine then when the phone reboots, they lock up at various points during bootup.
You can try to use boot manager. It's a paid app on the market and I think people have had success with it and hboot 1.5.
Cwm works fine dunno what you were having issues with unless you were typing the flash cmd in wrong . Anyways u didn't have to downgrade the software all you needed to do was use the latest ruu exe the 2.17 one would of got you going.
Twrp 2.0 has been know to cause dirty flashes to themes not working along with apk files missing that were cooked into a rom. I have seen the issue did it for me.
Anyways make sure with cwm that when you rename it call it cwm do not put cwm.img
Other wise when you go to flash it will error
Cause the file will be cwm.img.img seen a lot of people do it that way and have issues.
I had to downgrade because I could not get root. In order to get root you have to downgrade the software on the phone and then use the htc method... as far as I know.
The only recent version of CWM I could get to run was 4.0.1.4, but so far I can not load any Roms. They all fail at what seems to be right before they complete booting up.
I have given up for now... I use this phone as my daily and will have to run stock until the geniuses out there figure out whats up...

Do it via fastboot (fastboot boot recovery.img) and any ROM/Kernel will work.
If you do it via bootloader>recovery it cannot write to boot partition and hence device will hang/reboot etc.
Tried just
fastboot boot recovery.img
recovery image was CWM 5.x
Phone resets and sits on the HTC screen then reboots and boots to home screen, however it is as if the phone reset itself... Have to set everything up again.
I have no clue whats up!?

I had a similar issue (see link in my signature for specifics & walkthru). The new Cwm Touch 5.img file loaded up for me. That Cwm v4 was the only other that would work on mine.
Keep in mind you may have problems restoring Nandroid (recovery) backups, boot.img/kernel, if you don't use fastboot to enter recovery first ( fastboot boot YourRecoveryFilename.img ) .
I had a few posts in this other thread that might help too...

We need a lot more info. What hboot? What rom? Cdma or gsm evo? What recovery? Did you do a full wipe?
We're comin from a pure power source.
From and educated guess I would say you are S-On and failed to flash the kernel via "fastboot flash boot boot.img" in fastboot mode.

I guess you are htc unlocked and havent flashed the kernel seperately via fastboot.........or you havent wiped the previous rom.
bootloop
and also need to know what custom recovery you installed sounds like you lost your Boot.IMG if so you will need to exract it from the zip folder of the rom that you have install and then go to that folder and scrool down until you come to the Boot.IMG and copy and past it in same floder that you used to install your su file using command promts and typ fastboot flash boot boot.img

HELP!!! I think i bricked my phone!!

OK so I have the Sprint EVO 4G LTE with 1.22.651.3 on it, rooted, S-ON. I have the Team Win Recovery Project v.2.1.8 on it as well with hboot 1.15. I tried loading the newest rooted software 2.13.651.1 710RD and voila.... paperweight. I tried reloading 1.22.651.3 and nothing. I can still boot to the bootloader and TWRP recovery, but nothing seems to work and now because sprint screwed up and removed my total equipment protection service from my plan, I don't have insurance on the phone. PLEASE HELP!!!
You just need to flash the kernel, extract it from the Rom (boot.img) and place it in adb folder, connect phone I'm bootloader and type fastboot flash boot boot.img
You can also flash meanrom, it has a working kernel installer, just let it sit because the kernel installer does take awhile 5-10 minutes

Can you explain how to do this in greater detail? I'm experienced only enough to be dangerous to myself lol
This program should install the kernel that you need. If not you are supposed to be able to swap boot.img files that it will install.

This is for the One S but it's the same process for our phones also.
Sorry I've been in a low coverage area and just got home. Open the Rom, extract the boot.img, open adb folder or SDK, hold shift and right click, select open command window here, connect phone in fastboot and type fastboot flash boot boot.img
So I tried to use that program to flash the boot.img from the fastboot screen but the computer wouldnt connect to the phone... now what?
Boot from system into hboot and fast boot while plugged in via USB. Helps your PC determine drivers.
Also, if you need a guide for setting up adb/fastboot, Google a YouTube vid by qbking77 on how to unlock galaxy nexus bootloader, it links to a great tutorial.
from my flying AOKP'd Evo LTE and xda premium
do you have SDK installed on your computer? If not install it. Go through the setup (set up your your environment variables) for fastboot.
Make a copy of the boot.img from a ROM of your choice. Place it in a folder on your desktop name the folder (android) leave the folder open.
Open cmd
Type cd Desktop press enter
Type cd android press enter
Type fastboot flash boot boot.img
After that it should say sending then OK
After that go into recovery then flash the ROM
you should be good to go then...
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
The full SDK is not necessary, just the debug tools
ADB Tools
Also you can directly open the command prompt from within the folder by holding shift and opening the context menu (shift+right click) then select open command window here
i keep getting a message in windows "usb device not recognized" so i switched usb cables and finally got that program to load the boot.img file, then flashed a rom in bootloader but its still not booting... any ideas?
Did you make sure to wipe the phone first? What rom are you trying to flash?
wiped phone first and now trying to flash 2.13.651.1 after loading boot.img thru that program
you have to find a way to update your twrp to version 2.2.0 cause this is the culprit that gave you the issues. did you make a backup try doing a restore to get back up and running then download goomanager from the google play store and install the latest twrp here is a video to update to the latest twrp through goomanager.
twrp downloads I dont know if you have to be s-off to install in bootloader or not. maybe someone could clarify that
ok so i tried flashing twrp 2.2.2.0 and got a message saying "main verison is older" then it said "update failed!" which is weird since i had version 2.1.8.0 to begin with i think.
anyone? any ideas? I feel like my only resort is to have it replaced
You could fastboot flash the recovery image. Thats how I usually do it
So download the recovery image from twrp website and place it in your a dB folder. I don't have my PC but I think the command is fastboot flash recovery "recovery image"

Depending on how twrp names their recovery image

HTC evo 4g LTE can't load system again

Hi people facing a problem with my Phone. The problem is it won't reboot to system anymore even when i select system after going into reboot menu in Team Win Recovery Project v2.2.1 ...What happens is when i select system in the reboot menu, it boots to my Teamwin recovery instead of system but when i select power off or recovery or bootloader it goes into those fine. I even tried factory reset from bootloader and from Teamwin recovery but it still reboots to Teamwin recovery. I just want it to be able to get to my system again so i can have everything working..
This is what i did before it became like this. I was on HTCevohacks on the HTC evo 4g lte roms page trying to install CM10 ROM for Rooted HTC Evo 4G LTE! [Android 4.1.2][STABLE]. i downloaded CM10 Rom zip file and Gapps 4.1.2 zip file. i put both on my external storage then tried to install them and fail but before that i made a backup of my System, Data and Boot on my external storage. When it failed i factory reset from recovery without restoring backups and it started up perfectly, i even set up my phone interface again linking my google mail and wifi connections. next i went back to recovery and restore my backups from my external storage and that's when i couldn't get back to system. I still have my backup files. They are boot.emmc.win, boot.emmc.win.md5, data.ext4.win.md5, system.ext4.win and system.ext4.win.md5...
this is my HTC evo 4g lte specs..

If booting system is loading twrp then you have flashed twrp as a kernel, flash a Rom with kernel installer or fastboot kernel

Yes, that makes a lot more sense, i think i flashed twrp as a kernel without knowing it that's why booting system boots to twrp..bout bro i'm still new to this whole thing so please explain step by step how i can flash a Rom with kernel installer or fastboot kernel or provide a link to a guide..please my phone is off nd i'm missing out on calls, i really need to put it back to normal nd not miss with it anymore..i appreciate your first help..
You need to find a ROM that is son friendly, like meanrom. It will flash the whole ROM including the boot.IMG just like you would if you were s-off. It doesnt need anything extra done on your part. Or you need to extract the boot.img from your cm zip and fastboot flash that. In order to fastboot flash the kernel you need to set up adb. Google how to set up adb on windows or Mac or Linux or whatever os your computer is.

Meanrom has a kernel installer, just leave it alone for 5-10 minutes to install. Or to flash kernel manually, when you are ready to flash a Rom extract the boot.img from the Rom zip and use uniflash, bootimg flasher, or fastboot to flash it. ADB Tools and HTC drivers are all you need to flash the kernel through fastboot. Just extract folder and place boot image inside. In windows you can hold shift and right click, select open command window here for the terminal. Then connect phone I'm fastboot (bootloader/fastboot) and type fastboot devices to make sure the pc sees it. Type fastboot flash boot boot.img and then boot recovery and flash rom

How can I lock the phone back after unlocking bootloader, rooting, installing Xposed?

How can I lock the phone back after unlocking bootloader, rooting, installing Xposed?
Wipe installed custom ROM (System+data+cache+dalvik).
**Internal storage optional (You may have to flash TWRP again though).
Install MIUI recovery ROM pack through TWRP. Run MIUI initial setup. Reboot to fastboot and flash stock recovery, you can find stock recovery in MIUI forums. After that check for successful flash and successful system boot. Only then run the fastboot command to lock the bootloader :
fastboot oem lock
**Do not lock with TWRP. You'll hard brick your phone
***After flashing MIUI in TWRP flash lazyflasher or your device will be stuck
If you don't understand the complications in this method please ignore it, am sure there are some easier ways using MiFlash. Check MIUI forum for relocking and recovering to MIUI. If you wanna come back to the world of custom ROMs and Mods XDA is the place.

Thank You
BTW If you have the time could you write this more in steps like for a noob. If not it still kicks a$$ and thanks for reply
First you need to get rid of your current ROM and it's data. For that boot into TWRP and select wipe, in the list of partitions displayed select :
•System
•Data
•Cache
•Dalvikand confirm wipe. This step removes the ROM and data associated with it. Now the only thing you can access is TWRP and fastboot.
Also during wipe you can also select to wipe Internal Storage partition but after you do this you may lose TWRP also at the next boot. Now your phone can only boot into fastboot mode. So if you did wipe your internal storage also flash TWRP again from fastboot. If you ask how..:
•Download TWRP recovery from here
•Copy the downloaded file to any folder on your PC.
•Install ADB and fastboot drivers on your PC if you haven't.
•Reboot phone into fastboot mode(Power + Volume down) and connect to PC.
•Go to folder where your placed the TWRP image file.
•Open command prompt in that folder (Shift+right click mouse, open command window here)
•Type the following commands without the quotes :
" fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-mido.IMG "
•Now try rebooting into TWRP (Power + Volume Up). If you followed the steps right you should be able to.Remember this step is only if you decide to wipe internal storage also else it is completely not necessary.
OK now that you are left with a phone that only has TWRP we need a ROM to boot into, in your case you want a MIUI ROM. Download latest stable MIUI recovery ROM pack from MIUI website or just google if your having trouble finding it. For MIUI ROMs to successfully boot on a custom recovery you need to flash an additional zip called lazyflasher else your phone will be stuck at the MI logo. I'll attach the zip below. Okay so now since you have the required files copy them to your phone's internal storage.
Boot into TWRP and install the MIUI ROM zip first and the Lazyflasher zip after that. Reboot into system and phone should enter MIUI initial setup in some minutes(be patient MIUI initial boot can be long). Finish the setup.
Now you need to flash the latest stock recovery of your phone. I don't have it with me now so a simple google search will do the work. The procedure for flashing the recovery is the same as flashing TWRP which I have mentioned above. The only change you have do in the fastboot command line is the file name of your stock recovery.
After flashing check for successful boot, only then proceed with the relocking procedure as follows:
•Boot phone into fastboot mode
•Connect to PC
•Open Command prompt
•Type this fastboot command without the quotes :
" fastboot oem lock"•Once done reboot your phone.
Now you must have a relocked phone.
**Never relock your phone with any custom mods like custom recovery, custom ROM or even a MIUI which is rooted. Also be on 100% stock configuration before relocking device. Failing to do so will result in a hard brick.
