So my smart stay was working correctly but then after rooting today, it seems to have stopped. At one point it did work for a split second when I tried for the first time, but again was only for a split second then stopped. Any body have an idea. I'm trying to keep from wiping and factory reset, but may have to bite the bullet!
Edit, Smart Screen. smart stay, smart rotation, smart pause, smart scroll. all are check and on, but not working.
could be bad lighting or something?
Mine has never worked worth a damn. I hear things like "bad lighting," but that really isn't it. In sunlight so bright that I can barely see the screen, it still doesn't work. Maybe it has to do with skin tones and eye color?
I noticed it sucks if you wear glasses.. And if the light source is behind you.
Sent from my Galaxy S4.
Seems to me hardly any of these gimmicky "smart" features are worth a damn. They should be called "not very smart xxxxxx." SmartStay seems like a great idea, but it's more difficult to make it see me (even from inches away) it just ain't worth the aggravation and very erratic functionality.
Did you root to a deoxed or a stock ROM?
All my smart stay features worked with the STOCK ROM and even in ROOT - they were working just fine, however if you left the standard ROM then these features aren't there as Samsung doesn't release the drivers for them sadly.
But I haven't noticed that I miss them any
Thought I'd bring this one back up. My Smart Stay NO LONGER works. I'm on the initial Stock ROM (MDK) that was installed on this phone. It really hasn't worked worth crap at all but if I had it directly in front of my nose it would at least register that I'm looking at it. Now it doesn't pick up anything and shuts off no matter what. Doesn't seem to matter what apps are installed, what ROM I use, clearing Cache's or doing backup or restores, rebooting the device by power or battery pull, cycling the toggle or messing with other toggles. Nothing gives. [email protected]#

I'm brand new to HTC devices so I'm unsure if the dialer is sense or if this is a ICS dialer were dealing with. (My old phone was a Droidx, so my exp is with blur and asop 2.3 from liberty).
Either way though i seem to have come across an interesting "bug" or at least unusual behavior.
I've noticed on almost every other call, weather it's incoming or outgoing, the MOMENT you dial/answer the screen goes dark. Now i can press the power button to wake it up again and it will stay on for exactly 5 seconds before going dark again. If i flip on speaker phone the screen will stay on, however the moment i turn off speaker phone it goes dark again.
Whats really annoying is if i go back to the home screen it still goes dark after 5 seconds but now when i wake it up it's at the lock screen. If i try to unlock it the moment i touch the screen it goes dark. No matter where i touch the screen the phone is now perma locked until the call is finished.
Now like i said this happens every other call so far in the 6 times I've tested this, which i thought was really odd. The other times the screen stays on and acts completely normal no matter what i do while a call is active. Fresh reboot makes no difference. I haven't done a factory reset yet as I'm trying avoid that.
What i have done so far is unlocked the bootloader, Flashed recovery, and the root from con247's thread in the dev section. I don't think that has anything to do with it though since i noticed the screen going black during a call before i started messing with bootloaders/recovery/root. I just didn't test it as well before doing those things cuz i didn't think anything of it.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior and does anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like the proximity sensor is going wonky. You might try a factory reset and without installing anything else see if you get the same issue. Also, make sure that any programs you have installed are not affecting it for some reason.

Just factory reset it, skipped setup completely and started making calls, same issue. You maybe right about the sensor though. The first call acted up like i explained. The second call the screen was staying on like i expected, but once i switched speaker phone off and then back on the screen shut off and started acting like call one again.
I just got this phone 6 hours ago i wonder how hard it will be to convince verizon there's a hardware fault. I guess i'd better unroot it and remove recovery so i can call in the morning.

I just wanted to make sure i understand this before i do it.
To remove the root i need to install the RUU for the phone, which i found at http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?13550-Asian-Shooter-goes-ICS-and-a-VZW-Fireball-RUU (second link i assume).
I haven't downloaded it yet, but it's an exe. Will it flash the phone via USB, or does it just extract something i can use recovery to flash with?
Once i get the root removed i just need to flash back the original recovery and i should be good to go right?

There are directions in the RUU that will explain all of the steps. You will connect your phone with the USB cable.
It shouldn't be to hard to convince them. Just show them the steps you did to reproduce the issue. Good luck.
On the phone right now and the guy is setting up overnight sat delivery to my house. We are a fairly large business account so i'm glad they are going that extra mile.
Just to note I've noticed the sensor doesn't shut off after a call is complete. In fact it stayed on last night for around 6 hours before finally turning off. I did another test this morning and once again the sensor is stuck on, so good call. Thanks so much for your help, i never would have thought sensor, it seemed like a software issue to me!

Ok, I'm posting this here cuz I'm not sure if it's in this ROM or in the S3 no matter what ROM. I can't even find ANY reference to this, nor anyone who even knows what the hell I'm talking about, so here goes....
My S3 seems to have a 'butterfingers' feature. It has had it for as long a I remember... If I fumble around like I'm gonna drop it, it locks out all the touch buttons until I press power and cycle the screen off and back on. (Not the power, just the screen. It's NOT FROZEN, it simply disables the touch screen and menu/back) It was never a problem until I tried to load btcontroller. The fast movements of gaming trigger the damn thing every 30 seconds or so of play. Also does it on emu's like NES and such. It's damn frustrating to try to play a game and have the 'controller' randomly lock itself out! I was running wickedv7, and just went to wickedv9.1, no change.
Is this a feature or a defect? Is it in every ROM, or just in Wicked? Can I turn the bloody thing off? WTF? Thanks...
that's a defect
Try flashing stock Rom and see if you still have problem...if yes, then probably hardware, if no, then almost certainly software
I have an LG G Watch with 5.0.1 since a few days and I tried and sent back an identical LG G watch on 4.4W.1 a while ago and didn't experience it. Basically, I am noticing that after leaving the watch alone lying somewhere (I don't wear it at home) for some time (can't really say how long but at least an hour, I think) the display turns OFF. A single tap and it wakes up and then works "normally" until the next time...
The other G Watch with the older Wear version didn't have this behaviour so is this a feature of the latest Wear version (or possibly an LG-exclusive mod to squeeze even more battery life) or is it maybe an "issue"..?
I am saying this especially because I installed the Slumber app to automatically turn the display OFF while charging but realized that it's easier and more elegantly done by simply choosing the new "Theater mode" in Android Wear 5.0.1 and uninstalled the app. I don't know if what I am seeing is due to having installed Slumber but I really don't think so.
Does anybody know for sure what it is and how it exactly works..?
TIA
I was just about to post about this I think it's a bug though... I don't use a Slumber app or anything, I want my screen truly to be always on. But it will turn off occasionally and I don't like that!! I definitely did not have this issue on 4.4W.2
Anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it?

Just to be clear, I don't use it anymore and uninstalled it just after getting the 5.0.1 update with its Theater mode. My worry was that having had it installed triggered this behaviour but since you get it without ever installing it I can put that to rest.

Have you ever got it while it is on your wrist..?
Reading this I just removed my g-watch and after a few minutes I see that my screen was OFF. Never happen when I have watch on my wrist the last 2 days. Screen alaways ON and turn on with movement OFF. So yes it is a new feature of the last update 5.01.
Same here, it happened twice on the table, and once on my wrist this morning.
Must be something like the ambient mode in Moto 360 that does this. For one moment I thought I accidentally triggered the cinema mode.
I always take my watch off at work and the screen keeps turning off after 30 minutes. I did a full reset in case it was an overhang from the old version but it's still turning off.
So based on all of the above replies it seems it's a feature of the latest Android Wear. I am not calling it a bug because, except for a single reported case from our friend with the Moto 360, it seems to never happen while wearing it, so the logic appears to be "save the battery when not in use".
Just to "investigate" it some more, I am trying to time it and confirm it's 30 minutes for me too like StuBFrost says, and may you all please confirm you have Ambient turned ON (i.e. the display is always ON) and state whether you have the new Tilt to wake up setting ON (i.e. the Display lights up from its dimmed state when you tilt your wrist).
My settings are Display always ON and Tilt to wake up OFF.
It would be good to have some more reports from owners of different Wear smartwatches, to this end I posted also in the general Android Wear forum but no replies so far. I am going to update that post with our findings and see if we can understand what exactly is this behaviour we are seeing...
Actually, I think it might be a good feature to keep ON in many cases but it absolutely should be an *option*!
I have both options switched on and both work fine except for this new stupid sleep mode that quite clearly hasn't been thought out properly. Surely the theatre mode allows people to turn the display off should they need to and for everythimg else it should do what it did before and stay on.. If it doesn't get "corrected" soon, I will be rooting my watch and putting a custom ROM on it.

Trying to time it, I think I can say (I am still trying to cover all of the different scenarios) that any event which normally wakes the display up to normal brightness (i.e. an incoming call) resets the countdown. BTW, I think you are right and it's 30 minutes off the wirst with no movement, no tapping on it and no event like the ones just mentioned. "Normal" incoming notifications don't seem to reset the countdown.
Like I said, I don't think it's a bad idea in and of itself (I would use it in most cases) but they should have made it an option! And, ideally, they would let us set the time after which the display turns itself off.
I use and *strongly* prefer Android instead of limited and dumbed down Windows Phone and even worse Apple's useless crap exactly because of its customizability and powerfulness...
"Funny" thing is that from further testing, this feature doesn't kick in while on the charger (which could actually be pretty useful for most people...) LOL
ADDENDUM: the kind of events which resets the countdown to this "deep sleep" state (i.e. an incoming call) also wakes the display up from "deep sleep".
I am running the LG G Watch, version 5.0.1 with accompanying Android Wear app on my phone version 1.0.5
Screen is set to ALWAYS ON.
Tilt to wake is OFF.
It happens BOTH on my wrist and off my wrist. The timing is variable from my limited observation, but I haven't tried to directly time it.
on my lg g watch too
may I ask something related? on mine, it happened to be able to stop display (full black) with a swype from bottom to the top, never been able to do it again. Anybody faced that?
On my S6 edge I have on occasion seen that the black sleep screen suddenly showed the clock in big numbers (not the edge clock), and the faded away.
I know that I can get to see the edge screen by swiping up and down. But for the life of me do not know how to get the clock to appear on the sleep screen.
I have tried the home button, volume buttons, power button but all of this basically just turns the screen on.
Any suggestions?
in edge setting.

That screen should only be possible with the Clear View case on. Are you using any type of case with your S6?
There are magnets inside the Clear View case which the phone uses to detect when the cover is closed to display that screen.
There might be a bug with your phone if that is happening.
Do you have any strong magnets around your phone, like a speaker or anything, that might be setting it off? But even so, that still shouldn't happen since Clear View cases also have an NFC chip to enable that functionality to ensure that just normal magnets won't set it off (and to prevent fake cases and counterfeits).
Are you rooted and have some tweak installed that you forgot about perhaps?
That's the strange thing. It did show and I do not have any case for the S6.
No it was not close to a magnet.
It is not rooted.
Thx for the reply

That's very strange. Are you able to take a quick picture of it when it happens, I know that'll be hard to do.
Are you sure it is the exact same screen as the Clear View Case screen? Maybe it's something that looks similar, for example if you have a dark lockscreen.
Do you have Air Gesture Wakeup turned on (where you wave your hand over the screen and it turns on)? On the S4 you could make a similar screen turn on by using Air Gesture but on the S6 it takes you straight to the lockscreen. Maybe it's that in combination with something else?
I've been trying myself to get that screen to come on but without seeing what the actual screen looks like I'm out of ideas.

Thx for trying. Taking a screen shot would be difficult as it comes on only for a few seconds. Haven't seen it for the last few days strangely enough.
I got the same thing yesterday, it even had the edge tabs lit up from messages I had waiting. No case, but my phone was close up my laptop when I saw it, maybe a magnetic field thing??
That happens when you have a message or email or missed call from one of your 5 edge contacts. The pull out side menu also bulges out with the color of the contact. Very cool feature!

I just realized that yesterday, but I noticed that it only works when the phone is laying down and your really need to pick it up quickly, if I slowly/gently pick up the phone, that feature doesn't activate. I also noticed that it likes to shut off fast, even interacting with the bubble, you gotta open up the app quickly as the screen doesn't give you time to actually read what's on it.
If Samsung tweaks that a bit to active more easily and keep the screen on a few seconds longer, it'll be a nice feature.
The occasional clock still happens on my phone
I just bought a Galaxy S6 edge+ two weeks ago... and the case I ordered for it should be here tomorrow.
The face, not the edge, of the clock lighting up when I pick it up has been happening randomly since I bought it. It is usually accompanied with the phone vibrating too. So it has nothing to do with the case (which I don't have one yet), or where the phone has been sitting.
I honestly thought this was a feature, and have spent at least 10 hours trying to track this feature down. Only to learn that the online manual is already outdated for my phone. I'm not sure what came pre-loaded, but the first thing it did was a complete upgrade to Android 5.1.1. ...and that took place via Wifi, even before I was able to activate the phone.
Granted, the phone works great! I seriously love it! But, completely randomly, as far as I've been able to tell, it shows the clock on main screen when the rest of the phone is asleep, when I pick it up. Meanwhile, the edge clock works great whenever I want it. But when pulling the phone out of my pocket, I would like to see the "big clock" on the main screen without having to hit a button or swipe the screen. But correct me if I am wrong. It would seem that the only "official" way for this to happen is to buy a certain type of case for it?
My mom has a Droid Turbo. And other than the insane battery life (48 hours talk time), the other feature I really like about it is that you can just wave you hand anywhere near the screen and the clock turns on. I was hoping that this was some sort of feature of the S6 edge+ too. But I guess I am wrong about this.
Any thoughts as to why the clock sometimes comes on, but most of the time doesn't, when I pick it up?

My observation is that this happens whenever theres a notification waiting, if the phone gets picked up with a pending notification it vibrates and shows the clock with the edge tabs visible too. Has anyone found a way to turn this on at will?
Hey xda-community,
i've registered, because i have a strange problem with my LG G5 (H850) European Edition. If this is of any use, it's the Vodafone-Edition. Sorry for my language, i'm not a native speaker .
I got my G5 yesterday and was really pleased with the build quality (i was afraid, i was about the get some of those flawed devices as seen on the internet) and the raw power of the whole package. At first i didn't notice but then i realized, that the automatic brightness didn't work. Then i noticed, while having a conversation, that the display was'nt turned down. Up to this point it sounds like the known bug.
What i think (and please, push me into the right direction if i'm wrong - i'd love to take the shame not beeing able to look properly) makes the difference is, that after installing several sensor test apps from playstore, i always got the information, that both sensors are missing.
I took a trip into service menu and tried to calibrate (or better so say, to see if there was any sign of them) those sensors, but nothing happened. No reaction while covering the area where they are supposed to be, nothing.
Firmware is v10c-262-02. Tried to reset the phone and check while having nothing installed - same problem. I tried safe mode - same problem. I can check autobrightness but it doesn't have any effect whatsoever.
What really makes me shake my head is, that when i'm called and i turn the the display downwards to stop the sound, it works after 2 up to 3 times trying to cover the display.
I'd hate to send it in - maybe i'm just too stupid to look for answers, i'd really appreciate any efforts to help.
Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

Hey there,
short follow up to the problem. Yesterday evening i got a notification about an firmware update and wanted to install it. After hitting the proceed button nothing happened. Nothing. No installation, nada. I shook my head, deceided to return the damn brick and forgot about it. After an hour i noticed that my soft keys had changed their appearance. They got smaller. I asumed a kind of silent update (? nothing is shocking me anymore concerning this phone), checked the brightness control - no change. An hour ago i wanted to unlock my phone and got no reaction. I was about to hard reset it when it unlocked. I scrolled down the notification bar to check something when i noticed that the brightness was different from my setting. I hit the auto brightness button and bazinga. It changed by itself and since then everything works like a charme. The firmware version hasn't changed. I don't have the knowledge to explain anything or to know if something like this is even possibe (something was definitly new because all those vodafone apps where there again - which i deinstalled yesterday). Okay, long story short - either i'm officially going insane or they fixed it. Don't know, don't care.
Have a nice weekend!
Update: And it's gone again. I have no idea what to do anymore. I don't know if anyone is interessted in this, but i share the info anyway...

It certainly sounds like it *might* be defective, as you say that you have tried a factory reset.
It is a strange problem you have as it only appears to happen occasionally. It also sounds quite annoying. I know it is a pain to have t return it, but it might be better to do that and have a fully functional device, than to keep on facing this problem.
Sorry not to be able to give you a more satisfactory solution.
Good luck.

I have this same issue with the proximity sensor and in my case it is because of the Lifeproof case is causing this, many others with this case report the same thing. Try taking out of the case and test again - mine works fine with no case; If this still happens, with no case on, then maybe the phone

Thank you for trying to help Sensor was damaged, send it in for repair and got it back. One can be sure that it's not a matter of blocked access to the sensors when a sensor test shows, that there are no sensors.
Told about this in so many forums that i forgot to tighten the loose ends. Sorry.
