Please use this script only when necessary
Here is a little script I put together to fastboot L9s with ability to flash/restore ics xloader and uboot (p760, p765, p768, p769) jb (p760)
*I've only tested it on Win 7, but it should work on Vista , not sure about XP and 8
Very useful post about installing the drivers
*Some phones may need a different timing, 4 seconds won't work, worth to try between 0 to 4s and see what works best
Original thread about fastboot
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119090
It's based on wpark - [DEV][Bootloader] u-boot / omap4boot for P920/P720/P940 and its variant
update: file updated, mylk Thanks for catching the mistake!
update2: added p769 20f
Thanks, I'll try this out once I'm home, maybe my phone will finally let me fastboot. Whenever I've tried before, it just normally reboots, doesn't switch to fastboot mode.

i think there is some errot in your start.bat .

is there somebody who has tried fastboot ?
how is the screen like of the phone ?
is it just a black screen ?
and why the cmd just go to the folder of "yours" then i cant find anything in this folder .
sorry for my nood question ......

Both work the same under the hood. Perhaps you've wrong drivers if you get same error msg.

#1 is just a general fastboot, you can put whatever (boot.img, recovery.img, etc) you want to flash via fastboot in "yours" folder - type: fastboot devices and you'll see if your phone is recognized
and the rest is mainly for recovery, ics xloaders and uboots work nicely with offline flashing method also several people mistakenly soft bricked their phones with omap4boot by flashing prada files which can't happen with this tool
For me general fastboot works on ArchLinux. But I only put recovery with it...

of course if you have functional rom and unlocked bootloader you don't need it
Hi there, its been a while since I tried fastboot again, but I have good news. Fastboot worked on my P768 using this method, I selected option 1. Then I was able to send recovery to my phone and then root the phone using a flashable SuperSU zip! 'adb reboot recovery' takes me straight into CWM!
I have some questions though.
Is fastboot permanently on the phone like it is on the P760 now? or do I have to use this program each time to send fastboot commands?
Does this mean that I could potentially flash a custom rom to my phone now? I know all the custom roms out there are not for the P768, so I will get camera problems. But is this the missing piece of the puzzle for custom rom development/testing?
Thank you lelus for this great tool!

Fastboot is definitely there but something doesn't get passed along during adb reboot bootloader or oem-unlock and phone just reboots instead of booting to fastboot.

I'm pretty sure* you can use Android Kitchen to replace these files in latest Cyanogenmod zip with ones from p768 jb and have camera working.

Thanks. When I find the time. I'm going to make a guide for unlocking the boot loader, pushing CWM with fastboot and rooting.
I'm not confident in building CM, but I did see another user who was willing to try but was stuck with a locked boot loader. Hopefully together we can get the ball rolling for P768 development.

i think we need help from devs to port camera from official p760 cm to p768 maybe @markolino631 can do it for us, seen we had unlocked bootloader and able to push cwm using fastboot.
I got a P769 from a friend and it is total dead,black screen, no SW update or hard reset key combinations works, only can fastboot and shows a mirrored LG logo , on top right it says V0.5, but unable to flash x-loader, u-boot or recovery, always show the error "remote partition does not exists", i tried to erase the partitions with fastboot but still the error is same. does somebody experienced the same? they call this phone un-brickable

My guess is corrupted nand or partition table.
What did your friend do to the phone?
Well I don't know, he just sent me that it is not booting. Is there any tool / way to initialize the nand?

Just heads up, the fastboot files are from lg prada p940 which has somewhat different partition setup but it's definitely worth trying as a last resort if nothing else works.

Hello All,
I posted this on the post for Android Revolution and seem to have run out of interest. This was my post.
Hello,
I messed up and flashed the boot file before I installed the rom file in the internal storage. Now the phone wont boot at all. Can you help me fix this please.
I've tried to search for answers but cant find anything.
I can get into fastboot mode and into CMW mode. So I am able to enter sideload mode but cant get the phone to take the sideload.
I'm afraid I may have formatted the storage too.
Can anyone help me please?
Steve the noob.
Right now I am completely bricked. Tried everything, reinstalled SDK, tried sideloading in a couple of ways, stuck in bootloader or CMW. Try to load and sticks on white HTC page.
PLEASE HELP. I followed all of the directions except for loading the boot first.
Is there a factory reset like the old Oden system that could save me?
Can you get into fastboot?
If so you need to then flash the boot.img via fastboot.
Type fastboot flash (name of file).img in command prompt and you should be good to go!
which boot image?
Looks like you took the wrong version for your phone. You have an AT&T / Telus phone. You can not take an International ROM for your phone.
Only AT&T / TELUS ROMs will work on your phone.
I forgot, you can not bricked your phone since our HTC ONE X+ are S-ON, you just missed something to have it going.

Which CWM are you on? Lloir or the other guys? VERIFY YOU HAVE THE PROPER RECOVERY INSTALLED. IF YOU ARE ON THE AT&T MODEL USE THE AT&T RECOVERY
You can run an RUU (verify proper carrier and model) while at the fastboot screen, or install TWRP and try to sideload using that from the SDK PLATFORM TOOLS FOLDER. You mentioned you have the SDK installed but I need to stress DO NOT USE THE TOOL KIT IT IS WORTHLESS. Make sure you have the official HTC drivers installed that come with HTC SYNC using generic drivers from the tool kit usually yields worthless resutls.
I cant get the rom on the phone. It's completely stuck in a boot loop. Only thing I can do is go into bootloader or CWM. I need to sideload a rom. But it wont let me.

OK...
Let's start with the correct Recovery for your phone, download link -> Click me!
N.B. -> Rename this file like this -> TWRP2recovery
Put this file in your platform-tools of SDK folder.
Put your phone in bootloader (fastboot USB)
Type this : fasboot devices (Enter... you should have your serial in return)
Then type : fastboot flash recovery TWRP2recovery.img (Enter)
Again type : fastboot erase cache (Enter)
Unplug your USB cable and hit Power button one time
Select Recovery
Hit Power button one time to reboot in Recovery
Try to sideload an ATT&T / TELUS ROM ONLY
Go for Elegancia AT&T/TELUS ROM for this time. (Choose one of your choice in the Download section here)
What are the results?
Well, thanks for all your efforts, but it's a lost cause. I tried the last posters suggestions and it wont let me flash the recovery at all. It's done. I have insurance so I'm just going to smash it and file a claim. I give up. I wont do that again.
Which error you have when you try to flash the recovery? Is your phone recognized at least when you are typing : adb devices ?

Then when I typed fastboot recovery to load the file, it showed this
just tried a dif file path and got this
Oh, by the way, my bootloader has been relocked. Can I fix this through bootloader?
First let's install your SDK folder correctly then you will see, it will work flawlessly.
Have a look at my screenshot, see how mine look simple compare to yours.... Yes, I have two devices plugged.
Install your SDK tool like it is explained in this thread.
The version numbers are different but the installation stay the same.
EDIT : What is your computer OS? I will point you to the good htc drivers.
Hi there guys,
I was wondering if anyone could upload a copy of their u boot images. I am running a P768 on V10E Taiwan, it was originally on V10B, i believe this one. Could anyone send me their u boots please. Im pretty sure the KDZ version does not matter, as long as it a P768 file (I have flashed V10E, V20A and used Online recovery flash back to V10B and my phone is always shown as U2)
Edit: Ignore any references to U2 device - lelus has mentioned that U2 is the L9 motherboard code - it is not a different device - nothing to worry about.

backup your current xloader and uboot and ask someone with rooted jb p765 (non-branded) to do the same
Code:
adb shell su -c busybox dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 of=/sdcard/external_sd/p2.bin
adb shell su -c busybox dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 of=/sdcard/external_sd/p1.bin
then you restore nonbranded xloader and uboot
Code:
adb shell su -c busybox dd if=/sdcard/external_sd/p2.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
adb shell su -c busybox dd if=/sdcard/external_sd/p1.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1
if something goes wrong and your phone doesn't boot you can restore your original files by using fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash x-loader p1.bin
fastboot flash u-boot p2.bin

If the backup doesn't appear, mount the 'system/dev/' folder as R/W and retry.
Thanks.

Good day.
I was hoping that somebody kind enough would post a download link of u-boot and probably x-boot backups of LG L9. I have P768 flashed with
JB rom (telcel mexico). Everything was fine at first, until I started the omap4boot procedure where I accidentally flashed Prada's u-boot into my phone. Mine was bricked now. It cannot be turned on and there's no way to put it in Software upgrade mode. I even tried to hardware reset it but i does not work. I think the same thing happens to Donk165.
Thank you.

Good day again.
I just tried to bring back my phone to SW upgrade mode just like what was instructed on the link but it didn't work. I removed the battery, connect
the phone to PC via usb, and then press and hold the Vol + and power button together for several seconds and still nothing happens. The only obvious thing happening is whenever I connect the phone (with or without the battery) to the PC is I keep hearing windows making noise as if the device was detected and then gone, then back again. This kind of behavior was also mentioned in LG L9 fastboot (omap4boot) forum. Also, somebody in the fastboot forum mentioned he accidentally flashed L9's u-boot with pradas and then after unable to recover his phone like mine.
Probably, LG L9 P768 was really brickable and probably Im not the only one who was bricked when prada's u-boot was flashed over.
So for P768 owner's be warned. Be careful unlocking bootloader using omap4boot as the instruction provided there was not clear about not flashing u boot.
Anyway, I would like to thank cmahendra for trying to help.
S/w upgrade mode is a part of uboot so yes you need at least semi proper one in order for it to work. You can safely flash xloader and uboot from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1846304&d=1364667944, which are from ics 760, that will bring sw upgrade mode back ,restore v20a with offline method which will also restore original xloader and uboot

Thank a lot Lelus. You're a big help. I will try to flash these files later.
Thank you for posting here lelus, I will flash the files from P760 when I try out JB again in the next few days.
Just to clarify, my phone was not bricked, I just thought my lack of working fastboot on JB was because of using Omap4Boot.
So are the xloader and uboot all the same throughout L9s? It was posted above, but it wasn't confirmed.

Technically the uboot or/and xloaders are different for each model even carriers , the difference seems to be purely cosmetic besides ability to unlock booloader. I'm talking about p760 765 768.
Btw if your phone is working fine,there is no reason to flash x or u especially ones from ics

hi, I have same issue, did you find any solution? :crying:
Hi All,
After a failed attempt to root my L9 769, I have an issue where when the phone is turned on, it does not boot, it goes to a screen with the LG logo and the words "security error" beneath it. The phone then powers off. The only thing I have access to on the phone is this screen and the software update mode. I used the offline flash method in my root attempt. I am sure I screwed up in the process. I have scoured the internet in an attempt to resolve this, but I have yet been able to. This seems to be a fairly common problem when a root attempt fails, however I cannot correct this.
Things I have tried:
Fastboot: I try to run fastboot, but it stops at waiting for device.
Offline flash: I tried the offline flash method, but the tool freezes at 15% saying the device cannot be found.
Online flash: The tool recognizes the phone but sees it as being up to date. I try to use the recovery option but it locks up at analyzing the phone.
I am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
J

You need a recovery.img from p769 and flash it through fastboot

Some help on how to install fastboot
Did you install the omap4430 driver twice?
Open an elevated command prompt and type
Code:
SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
devmgmt.msc
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then open the Device Manager and see if you have the omap4 driver installed twice (in two locations)
Note: In Device Manager click the View tab and select Show hidden devices
If you don't see the omap driver installed twice, do this
Select the "other devices" and start deleting/uninstalling all of the devices you find here (I think the device you are looking for is "lg u2" but not 100% sure)
Once you have uninstalled all of the unknown drivers you found, run the start.bat again and follow the directions to flash the x & u img's (for your device).
Now go back to device manager and find the new unknown/other device created (should be lg u2) and install the omap4430 like you did the first time.
After you have done all this, rerun the start.bat and hopefully it will work for you.
Another thing, If you do see the omap driver installed twice, then it has to be your timing when you enter the battery. Keep trying different times to enter the battery
example. wait 1 second and enter battery, if that doesn't work wait 2 seconds then enter battery and etc.
Good luck
No luck yet with connecting to fastboot, I will give this a shot and report back. Thank you.
You were absolutely right, the issue was with having multiple drivers. I followed your steps and restored my phone to life. Thank you so much.

@kuma82,
Before I start, I had NO IDEA how crazy the L9 was! I've rooted/unlocked/custom recoveried/custom ROMed 4 other phones without any major set backs prior to hitting this wall.
Also, this is my daughter's phone and I'm really took a lot of precautions before starting.
Here is what I did prior to attempting to wipe (factory reset) and install CM 10.1 (here):
Device model: P769
[was] rooted
CWM Recovery [was] installed
Stock JB (T-Mobile US) ROM backed up (full nandroid)
I was concerned about the many submodels of the L9 and verified both in the about phone within the ROM settings as well as what's printed/etched below the battery under the back cover. Both checked out to be P769.
I ran `adb reboot recovery` and then proceeded to wipe/factory rest from within CWM recovery. After this, I installed the ROM zip from the external sdcard. It failed the update script's assert of ro.product.id and would not install. OK, bummer, I'll just restore the nandroid backup. Nope. It was unable to restore /system and so now I really got concerned. I then found the weirdest thing of all. After seeing what is asserted in the update script for the ROM zip, I ran getprop for each of the properties it checks for and got back the Prada 3D "p940"!
Well now I felt like I was in a world of pain, so I decided to hack the update script so that "p940" would be accepted. Well now the install went fine without any errors reported. I proceeded to flash the latest gapps for 4.2.2 and it too installed fine. GREAT! Now for the system boot.........
From that point on, I've been stuck in LG Security Error land
I was able to get the special fastboot to connect (after many failed attempts) by selecting option 5 for ICS x & u flashing.
Could someone be please be kind enough to help me get my daughter's phone back to some ROM? I'm alright with even stock right now. At least then she'll have a functioning phone and I could even extract apps to restore from the CWM nandroid I made via Titanium.
peace.

@kuma82,
Before I start, I had NO IDEA how crazy the L9 was!

To install custom rom or CM10 you need to unlock bootloader first. You should follow kuma82 in his post above to flash back stock rom.
The security error is because you didn't unlock it (sorry to hear that). Just flash with fastboot ice x & u for p769. Then put your phone in s/w upgrade and run the offline flash.
If you need anymore help, holla! I don't want your daughter mad at you

I swear I read every link you posted above and still could not figure out what: "flash with ice x & u" is. I downloaded the fastboot zip and ran start.bat and selected option 5 for ICS x & u for p769 and that got me an inverted LG fastboot screen. I was also able to then choose option 1 for fastboot which dropped me into an empty yours directory.
It was midnight and I had at least 8 browser tabs open to various xda posts, but I still couldn't figure out what I needed to do with the start.bat next.

Hi All,
After a failed attempt to root my L9 769, I have an issue where when the phone is turned on, it does not boot, it goes to a screen with the LG logo and the words "security error" beneath it.
Thanks,
J

I've been wanting to try this: go to your computer and check your device manager and disable the LG drivers then try the offline flash again. Kuma way works but it's very long, found this while I was reading but never tried for our phones. Same problem though as updating stops at 15 %

Another thing, more than likely, after you flash with the r&d tool you will need to do a hard reset because you flashed cyanogen. Also, you will still need to root to fix the touch screen.

Yeah, I was able to repeatedly get the inverted LG fastboot screen and see everything you saw in device manager as well as successfully get `fastboot devices` to show (echo) the device. I even tried `fastboot flash recovery p4_769.img` with the file linked in post #3 and it flashed without error.
Here's my problem: What do I need to do now that I have a working way to run fastboot commands? Is there a recovery image I need to flash (stock)? Is there a boot image I need to flash? Or, is there some other fastboot command I need to run?
I'm assuming the advice you're giving me is to ultimately get a stock ROM back on her phone. Is that correct?
I'd really like to unlock the bootloader so that I can do what I know with CWM: backup, wipe, restore, flash, etc... If that is something I can do from where I'm at now, I'd prefer to put the effort in to that. If this darned 'Security Error' splash message must be resolved by getting back to a stock ROM first, then I'm game.
Final request for clarification: Am I still needing to "flash the ice cream x & u boot for your device (in fastboot) to get the offline flash running again"? If so, could you please provide instructions for that step? So far all of the steps linked here have been to get Windows drivers sorted out and fastboot working. I've got that now.
Thanks again!

THANKS!
Her phone had the stock TMOUS jelly bean ROM that we received OTA. I had only rooted her phone previous to my CM10.1 fiasco attempt.
So I've never flashed anything (successfully at least) on her phone. All of my previous android experience has been on 3 nexuses (One, S, 4) and my current HTC Sensation. That means I've only unlocked one bootloader that didn't support the fastboot oem method
I'm an experienced dev with the entire weekend to "play" with my daughter's p769
I also promise to provide lengthy posts in the Optimus L9 forums to help any future people from soft bricking any more devices.

The system image is to big to flash with fastboot, sucks.
1. Use the above to get back on stock (you need 10g kdz).
To enter s/w upgrade remove battery. Hold volume up and enter USB cable, then put the battery back in.

UH OH... The "volume up" method isn't working on this device. I posted more details about it here. I'm beginning to think I may need to return the phone. I never thought flashing a ROM zip in CWM recovery could brick the phone. When I restoring the CWM backup also failed (when I at least was in CWM recovery which now is inaccessible), I freaked.
P.S. - I'm all out of thanks for the day. I think you got the lion's share though

i don't know how any one is getting any of this done. i've been able to root, several times, install CWM, several times, but i can not seem to figure out how to boot into the fastboot, or into the bootloader so that i can use fastboot, so that i can unlock my bootloader. is there some magical secret that every one else in the world knows, except me???
i'm running v20d. i've got fastboot and adb installed on linux (debian), and i can shell into the phone via adb, and then substitute user* as root and delete bloat ware and every thing else - but i can't figure out how to boot into bootloader... i've tried "adb reboot bootloader" and "adb reboot-bootloader" (yes, the 2nd one is valid), but both just reboot the phone, then i see the CWM flashing lights, then it continues to boot as normal - a few times i got the dead droid icon.
i can do all this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43401184 but i can't get into the danged bootloader... this can't be just me, but it seems like i'm the only one that has no clue how to get this right

* "su -" does not stand for superuser - that's a misgnomer, and since most of the mobile hackers are windows users, they never know that little detail - and you should include the dash after su, so that the shell assumes the root user's home directory and reads the root user's .bashrc env vars, etc
LG prevents rebooting in bootloader on most phones, including this one. Entering fast boot with the script and running the command fails BC its not an official fastboot its user compiled.

i've been rooting and putting CWM onto it before i bother with the bootloader, but i wonder if you have to unlock the bootloader FIRST, because CWM or rooting wipes out some thing that's needed to get the bootloader to allow fastboot??? i dunno, just taking stabs in the dark now...

*crosses fingers* good luck, if I find more suggestions I'll let you know. For now let's hope I'm right on this.
You're not the only one. I am also unable to unlock. I agree with omgbossis21 when he mentions that LG blocked access to fastboot. I tried several key combinations but none worked.
The bootloader is on this thing, though. The hidden menu shows the status. Has anyone tried asking LG tech support how to access official fastboot? It must exist in order for the techs to recover the damn thing.

After screwing up when flashing the wrong u-boot and xloader in fastboot, my phone won't connect in debug mode and the notification bar crashes on 15% battery. I've tried everything imaginable to fix this, factory reset, flashing almost every kdz, updating through ota, completely removing everything through fastboot and reflashing a stock kdz. Please help, i've had this problem for 3 months and nobody else has this. I just need an estimate, does it sound like a hardware problem or a software problem?

Hi, I think I might have a similar problem. I was running on stock JB for a while and then decided to give a try to CM10 or 11. I tried to flash CM11 without artas's recovery, so it did not work. So I've tried CM10, which seemed pretty buggy and camera was not working. Then I did all the reading etc and tried about 10 different roms based on 4.3, .4.4 and even stock rom, camera did not work anywhere.
Every time I try to open an app using camera, it reports: Unfortunately: com.android.camera has stopped. I have tried all kinds of resets (everything available in both CWM and TWRP), online kdz fix, back to stock rom (tried multiple versions of JB) but nothing seems to help. Any ideas? I've tried to flash this persist.img using adb but I got the same error saying that there is no such partition.
Thanks for response.
