first off let me start by posting this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272011
essentially after searching YouTube,Google, of course here, friends etc....no help in finding an answer to "searching for gps" continuously.
so currently im backing up my app data to my box and going to try a factory reset
but I keep thinking maybe theres a better app out there?
any ideas?
Changing the app isn't going to fix the issue if you can't get a good GPS lock. You're on the right path restoring the phone.
To test the GPS though and speed up locking you can get GPS status and tool box.

If you keep it in one thread and reply back it will be easier to help. Can you tell me if your location access settings are enabled and do satellites show as in use with test app.

Bases on your storied history of gps problems, I'd imagine it's a hardware defect or an efs problem.

What is "EFS"?
thats funny.....Lg says its my providers problem...i am rooted and unlocked but stock rom stock everything....
I sent LG an email saying:
My issue is that even with perfect 4g LTE Reception my GPS tracks me perfectly which is awesome, however when I'm on the move(usually driving) and I'm using the device as a navigation unit, it constantly "searches for signal" . The device will not track my moving location at all. I did do a factory reset and I've recovered my data with the exception of my location settings( thinking something in the old settings is wrong causing the issue). I'm using both Google maps default app and mapquest, I'm using both because Google says its navigation feature is still in beta development.
They replied:
From the description of the navigation problem, it would seem that your network service is not providing the correct data in the signal to allow tracking operations. This is seen in the fact of having the same problems with both versions of the GPS apps on the phone. If only one of the apps had the problem, then it would have been possible for the phone to be the problem. Finally, for the physical differences between these phones, there is a very minor difference in the size of the casing. Hopefully this answers your questions. If you have further inquiries, please feel free to contact our Wireless Customer Interactive Center at 800-793-8896. ^NE

That is a lot of b.s. from LG. Right now your phone is faking your location without using GPS.
If you are rooted and unlocked I am assuming you know how to make nandroids and flash ROMs. Try the fix in this link and let us know how you make out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2278873
I know how to flash to a Rom yes and androids saved my bum seeing as LG has no way to backup their devices....I edited part of the message I sent them and part of their reply. ..they suggested using Polaris office to backup my contacts. ..that's it....

I have an idea to try first, when mine was broke it would show SATs in view but wouldn't lock. Yours isn't even seeing them. This app TopNTP will set up the servers, try as shown in screenshot.

There is a one year manufacturer warranty on hardware. You can send it to an LG repair center yourself.
Well went to ATT today, the swapped out the Sim cards and that actually made it worse so they called warranty for me and a new device should be here within 2-5 business days

Is there any way to find the location of my phone? It was stolen and I just a dumb ass changed my gmail password right away so the person who stole it couldnt access my email.
Is there any way to track it now since google cant be synced with it??
I didnt install any tracking apps on my phone.......I am running 5.0 Inject Th3ry
Thanks guys I appreciate your help!
did you register for a sense account?
sense online does not work with the thunderbolt yet...
I thought lookout had a way to push the app to your phone to track it?
If you signed up for Verizon's TEC insurance via Asurion, I believe you get a phone finder service with that. Don't know how accurate it is though. www.phoneclaim.com Best of luck!
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
If all else fails. Call verizon, tell them it's lost. Call back every day to see if they placed any phone calls. If they did, call the numbers they called. Verizon can provide you with that info. Disadvantage of that, is they can use your phone to buy things or make expensive calls. But if you keep an eye on verizon's history, you should be able to control that if it gets out of hand.
One time my phone was stolen and I was able to find the guy that stole it because his dad was one of his recent calls. Turns out papa was very disappointed haha! I got my phone back and he got a beating.
Go to the android market on you pc and install Lookout Plan B on you lost phone. It will track it.

Umm, yes it does. If your running a ROM with it and your signed into HTC Sense. There is an option under the Location settings called Phone finder.
If it is checked you can go to www.htcsense.com, sign in and it will track your phone. I just tried before posting this to make sure.
That sucks but you hopefully had phone finder on

Use your router to locate him, there should be singals of all devices connected to the router, so, you can easily locate SGP5

You can't use GPS to find it considering the accuracy probably spans the entirety of your home. You may be able to locate it with wireless information from your router. I'd hurry though in the case that your battery drains quickly with WiFi always on.
Worst case, you'll come across it while cleaning or just retrace your steps to when you last had it.
Well guys, I found it using using the Plan B app from Lookout Security. It connected to my Google account and found where the location was in my house. Any suggestions on how I can be prepared next time? Like a backup GPS?

you can get a communicator like skype, parlingo etc. and if you lost again, you will be able to locate SGP with one call/massage to SGP.
you cant use GPS, coz accuracy of GPS is nearly of 15m-10m,
you can use also a spectrum analyser or a wifi device with monitor mode on, but the first cost ~600$, the second is hard to do, those two need to have wifi turned on SGP.
A couple of options:
You could install skype, or some other app that lets you receive calls, messages, or whatever over wi-fi. Configure the app with an audible alert when a call is received, and then just call your player when you lose it.
Configure the email client to play an alert sound when a new email is received, and email yourself when you need to find your phone
Download google voice and get a free phone number you can text from your computer or phone. Couple it with groove ip app and you have a free wi fi phone service. I use it all the time.
OK, Thanks Guys!

I know it's bad form to resurrect old threads, but I noticed an app on Google Play apparently made for this exact situation. it's called "Wheres My Droid" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alienmanfc6.wheresmyandroid)
install app androidlost....it is not using any memory because its using google account and app after first time doesnt need to be even started as any process normal or background...and then go to www.androidlost.com ..log with your google id and you can do what ever comes to your mind with device remotely.I find my phone and tablet with that 10 times by now or scare my friend who use it because you can even play police siren remotey on device. And this free app is also awsome for spying your girlfriend if she has android phone..mine have no idea that i read all here messages and now who calls here and who she calls..but for now she is good girl
Throughout the past few months, I have been unable to have a GPS lock or estimate whenever I'm either inside a building or standing still on broad daylight. The only way to get a fix is if I'm driving. I've had this problem on several different ROMs. I've mainly stuck with AOKP, but have tried different modems with the same result. I've also wiped data/cache and SD card several times but to no avail. Others haven't reported this problem so I know it's specific to my phone. For example, if I use Google Now on JellyBean and search for weather, it defaults to Atlanta if I'm not driving around (I live in Puerto Rico)
Now that Jelly Bean is here with Google Now and other apps are constantly taking advantage of your location, I would love to be able to have my GPS fix or give an estimate of my location whenever I'm inside a building or standing still on the street.
Any suggestions?

Some have suggested before to switch modems. Have you had any luck with any particular one ?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
I had trouble with GPS after flashing CM9 RC2. Have you installed GPS Toolbox? It gives you a bit more information to troubleshoot with.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=en
I'd see eight satellites but would not get a fix. Eventually I reflashed new nightly *and* modem UCLE5 and trouble disappeared.
Have you tried leaving maps or another app requiring location data on for a few minutes (12 1/2 minutes max)? If you eventually acquire a fix then that would point toward your phone not being able to download GPS Assistance data from cell provider. If the phone cannot get AGPS data from cell provider then it has to recieve GPS almanac from satellites at an ungodly slow rate.

That's REALLY weird.
Not locking inside - that's completely expected
Not locking outside - That's not a good sign, but it makes no sense when combined with
Locking in a moving car - My experience is that every GPS I have ever used has significantly more trouble locking when moving then when stationary
Edit: When you say "standing still in the street" - is it a city with tall buildings, or ???

This may have been posted already but I figured out how to stop my GPS from toggling itself on. If I turned off my GPS it would turn itself on and say searching for GPS, or turn itself on when I would be on a call or be in an area with no signal. Even after rooting, installing twrp and flashing Clean Rom 1.1 (THANKS SCOTT) it was still there. Looks like it was the carrier IQ causing the issue. I've done these three steps and haven't seen it since. Step 1: Settings>Location access> check 'Wi-Fi & Mobile network location' then uncheck 'GPS Satellite'. Step 2: On your device go to Settings>apps>runnings>Android System> IQServices> Stop. Step 3: Download 'Disable Services' app, open the app and go to android system the uncheck IQServices. I read that if you reboot your phone it could come back on and you'd just have to do the same steps to turn it back off. Also I heard that AT&T can turn it back on but at least you know how to shut it off. Let me know if this helps
