Wonderful Trick For Gamers!! (No Lag during gameplay) - Xperia Play Android Development

So we all know by now that task managers are almost worthless these days because the second it closes the apps, it reopens causing most times your phone to lag even more during gameplay. I have a solution if you are up to it.
The solution is very simple. If you really want to play the games you love, you have to make some sort of sacrifice (and I'm not talking about some voodoo **** lol). Freeze the majority or all apps that consume the most of your ram which run in the background like Facebook, twitter, whatsapp, viber, google play, widgets ect.
Use this wonderful free app called App Quarantine and freeze some apps.
Root is required though.

You don't have to freeze all your background apps but the ones you don't need at the moment. I've left whatsapp and viber and still experienced a very great gameplay, which lagged a lot before.
Here is a screenshot of my available ram, stabilized after 10 minutes I've frozen some apps.
If you want to go all the way and freeze some system apps as well, here is another free application called Apps2Rom which freezes system apps as well. Here is a screenshot after I've frozen some system apps after 10 minutes like google play services, keyboard, sound enhancement and infinitive view. This app requires a reboot so reboot after freezing system apps.
As you can see in the memory monitor, the available ram is very stable. Now look at me playing a HQ game without lag!!
Using this you can hover between 60 - 70% of available ram for gameplay which is more than enough to play HQ games without even overclocking your system to speed up your gameplay.
Now go on with your fine self and have the best gaming experience on your phone!

Greenify is only for Honeycomb and beyond isn't it? And also you have to pay to freeze the system apps there. Apps2Rom is free, and it works on gingerbread.

Yes it's for honeycomb and above. But it's way better than the above if on ics/Jb. And Greenify does not support hibernating of system apps since I last checked.

I was using a firewall for freezing the apps that uses internet connections and i had very good gaming performance, almost no lags in heavy games with 3g connection on stock kernel!!!
If you say that's better i will try it and report later mate!! Cheers! :good:

You have 300mb free ram? How? lol. Which application do you have installed on your phone? I've played Backstab and Dark Legends with no problem (but did before). However I'm still not able to play Dungoun Hunters 3 without lag which sucks.

I don't freeze apps or use airplane mode like they suggest. I'm on gin2gb 2.3.0 with lupusv8 480 kernel. I just goto running services, end anything I don't need, and have about 320mb free ram before I open a game.

High ram usage

My fascinate is running sc2.9.1 with voodoo kernel. I don't have any updating widgets or apps, but the ram usage always hovers over 200mb...around 220~240. Is this a normal status?

Yeah, this seems to be about average for me too, without freeing any RAM up that is. After freeing, I usually have around 100 or so free.
To the OP, obviously an App you are running is killing your RAM (or a combination of Apps). Get an App like "OSMonitor" to see exactly which Apps are using exactly how much RAM. Then go from there,
I really don't know why...I barely have any apps installed.
Is it possible that something went wrong during flashing roms?

Honestly, I am not a Dev or anything but I AM an IT major and have a bit of Linux experience...I do not think anything went wrong flashing ROM's, but just to play it safe, I would use Adrynalyne's all-in-one DI05.tar in Odin. Then reflash Froyo/whatever ROM you want. That will COMPLETELY wipe for you, if something is wrong, that will definitely fix it. Otherwise, stick with what I mentioned in my last post.
I will consider that as my last resort..
I really hate to wipe and set up my phone again
I installed osmonitor, but I don't know what's overusing the ram...I see android os using 70mb and about 6 apps using 20~25 each. Those apps are system apps too, such as download manager etc.
Is there a way to extract the memory usage list and post it here?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Uh, after I installed osmonitor and geanted root rights, my phone crashed 5 times...
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Android Assistant is good as well. It's free in the market & shows a clear % value in the list of what's running. Process Monitor Widget also works & will give you a snapshot recording of ram/cpu load.
My phone was doing this also. When booting I had about 160MB free RAM after level 2 clear in task manager. After about 2 hours it would go down to about 70 and I when clearing in task manager it would only go up to about 80-90. It was really annoying and would cause my phone to slow down and get hot. This is one of the main reasons I reverted back to DJ05. I tried fixing the issue with wipes and re flashing rom/kernel but nothing helps. We'll just have to wait until source is released to get better kernels.
I went back to D101 completely stock rom with nothing installed, but it still shows 210~230/325mb of ram usage...I don't know what's wrong
It's normal behavior for android, nothing's wrong.

oh... I thought my fascinate had unusually high ram usage since my friend has mesmerize and it only uses about 110mb of ram. Maybe his is the one with unusually low ram usage then..
Android keeps recently used apps in memory for quick access or things like alarms and keeps them there until it needs to free up that ram for something else. It's is generally pretty good at managing its own memory, so unless youre getting major slowdowns then I wouldn't worry about it.

Android is not Windows. It handles memory very differently (and better). You do not need to be concerned about high memory usage at all, as the system reclaims memory as needed when new processes are launched.

Fruit Ninja THD LAGS on 2.3.4

Do you get very laggy gaming in this game ?

Latest faux123 kernel? v0.1.7?
I downloaded Chainfire 3D and used Unroll Textures. I think with our 1GB of RAM, it makes the graphics better, but the performance better. Fruit Ninja THD seemed pretty slick - managed to get 663 ;D

No longer having any lag even with massive combos and stuff like that. And the worst you're going to do is bugger up your install - just restore it with Nandroid if worst comes to worst.

I don't know if it lags on my phone. It opens to the main menu then closes out 3 seconds later. I tried two different kernels (faux123's latest and stock) and had the same result with each. I'm running the latest release of Aura ROM. Anybody else experiencing this?
Edit: apparently it will run if I can slash the new game option fast enough. It's as if the game thinks I'm slashing exit. Weird.

Perhaps your ram usage is including cached apps. If it does then that sounds about right. I have about 400MB of apps cached (stuff like Nova Launcher, Widgets, Gallery, and Play Store)

you might use an app like "swapper" in combination with a kernel that supports swap
so you can use virtual ram https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsIm9yZy5hemFzb2Z0LmZyZWUuc3dhcHBlciJd
to check if it works, open terminal emulator and execute the commend "free" (needs busybox installed).

Use a 'swap' partition for more performance or just install Chainfire 3d

Ok, simple advice. Don't use pureness. I know it's nice looking and all but its slow, with constantly low RAM. Use RayOniumICS. It's the fastest, most stable stock based ROM.
Its not just the rom itself effect free ram but just look at screenshot. He has to many running service at a time. That eat too much ram. My running service only around 4-5 app run. Just delete any unwanted and useless app that run all the time. Keep only important app.

If you guys noticed, Temple Run 2 has three graphics options: Good, Better and Best. What you might notice is when you change to and from Good, a dialog will appear. What seems to actually be happening is that the graphics engine is changing. Good uses the old Temple Run engine, which stutters more and has a problem tracking the accelerometer. Better and Best is a different engine and it is much better at accelerometer tracking and keeping a steady FPS overall (Better and Best use the same engine; Best has more details in graphics). So in conclusion, from playing Temple Run 2 for awhile now, use the Better graphics for playing. It should be set to Better by default. Best work pretty well too but FPS drops a bit from shadows and extra details.
