Android System chewing up battery - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

This is my second day of having the phone starting from a full charge but it seems like Android System keeps using a lot of the battery, as if I was on a stock 4.2.2 ROM. Has anyone else come across this?

I believe they think it was related to all those samsung related gestures/eyetracking/etc. Do you have that enabled?

[Q] S3 unlock lag

Hi guys, I'm running the latest version of Slim Bean with stock modem XXLE8 and whatever kernel comes with Slim. I've noticed that there is a 1.5-2 second delay upon hitting the power or home button to the screen turning on and being ready to use. It's pretty annoying as you can imagine, I've actually figured out what the problem is, my phone is going to deep sleep too early and is taking up to 2 seconds to wake up, I wouldn't mind this if the phone has been left alone for 2 hours or so, but if I leave my phone for 5 minutes I shouldn't have to wait 2 seconds to unlock it. I came to this conclusion by using the app softlocker from the market, which disables sleep, and the lockscreen is perfectly fine with no lag, so should I try a new modem or a new kernel or is there something else I have to try to solve this issue?
There are already some discussions about that problem:

It is a very annoying problem and I don't really understand how a top range device like the Galaxy S3 has such a problem.
I was hopping that the official Jelly Bean update would fix it... If it does not, I will contact Samsung (as should everyone who is annoyed by the wake up lag).

I've read both but neither seem to provide much of a solution. It is pretty ridiculous a phone like the S3 with such powerful hardware suffers from unlock lag. My HTC Desire Z used to unlock instantly... Kinda disappointing.
I'm totally annoyed because of this problem, too.
isn't there a kernel or something where this doesnt happen??
No issues with Omega v34, instant

I've been looking but can't seem to find one. The delay is about 1.5-2 seconds on Siyah, was about the same with YANK kernel.

Hmmmmm I might flash a stock rom and check it out because I don't remember it happening when I was running stock, tho that was for a grand total of 3 days lol.
This has always been a particular issue surrounding the Android software in terms of the optimisation of the OS...Keep in mind that kernels and ROMs with plently of adjustment may also mean plenty of variables, as small settings adjustments may alter and cause detrimental lags and issues as such. I use Phenomenal which is pretty good as there is little adjustments, disabled logs and undervolted...very good battery and response...I would recommend looking at something like that...unfortunately, should you wish not to root your device and keep it as standard, you may look at if there is an app that might be causing your the issue...but please note that slow unlocking/wake is because the device is in deep sleep.

sure, but i own quite a view other android phones and none behaves like the s3, not even the superlow-budget htc one v
i installed the omega 4.2 AOKP rom today, but the lag is there, too....i got back to arhd for now...
theres a app called softlocker, but with that the cpu never gets to deepsleep, my s3 gets warm and the battery drains badly

[Q] Severe Battery Drain With Any Custom ROM!

Hey guys. I have been using this site for a while and have just made a new account. I look forward to some helpful chaps
PHONE: GALAXY ACE GT-S5830
I have installed 4 different types of Cyanogenmod (CM 10.1 Pro, etc.) and have found a problem. Even after battery calibration (thank google play ) i have always received severe battery drain. Eg. I would leave my phone on charge overnight. In the morning I would wake up and I could basically watch it go down like a timer. About 2 minutes after unplugging the phone it would have gone down to 81%, even without using the phone!
I know this isn't the ROM's fault since it has happened on numerous ROM's, as I said.
Also, after it reaches about 20% it sometimes slows down the drainage.
I don't get this problem on the stock ROM. I really want to use the stock ROM and UI (TW) cause its got many features, but wanna keep Jellybean cause of BBM for Android coming out soon. If there is any type of ROM which looks just like the original Stock ROM for SGA but with JB installed, could someone please point me in the right direction for it?
Many Regards & looking forward to a ahppy community, HelloMrBrandon. :highfive:
Update: BTW I know I shouldn't post Q&A here. But I couldn't find the right spot for them. Sooooorrryyyyy!
PING!

[Q] 4.3 Compounding Lag?

Hey guys, I'm currently using Samsung's 4.3 ROM (XXUGMJ9) with DerTeufel1980's Devil2 kernel.
After leaving my phone for a few hours, I return to it and notice that the phone lags a lot. It wakes up quickly but the entire UI is very laggy. CPU stats shows that the phone is using all cores at 1.4Ghz with usage typically above 80%. If I leave my phone on idle for just a hour or two, it does begin to lag but not as much as if I left it for 5+ hours. If I leave my phone overnight, I'll return to it switched off (I do believe that this is related to the lag issue). If I restart the phone, the problem disappears - is anybody else getting this or is this just me?
Samsung have just re-released fixed 4.3.

I've heard about today's release, been trying to get my hands on it but it doesn't seem like anyone has posted anything reliable. But yeah, I know the current ROMs are very buggy, I was just wondering if this was one of the bugs or just me doing something that messed it up somehow

Android 4.3 is draining my battery on standby!

Hi XDA
I literally don't know what to do with my Samsung Galaxy SIII for a bout half a year ago i updated my phone to Android 4.3 and things went a bit weird. First thing I noticed was that the phone was really slow to wake up from standby, sometimes I had to take out the battery because nothing happen. The second thing is that it sometimes get really hot even on standby. I can't make it though half a day without charging my phone! Today it got mad at my phone again and was searching around the web for a solution, I came by lot of forums with people who was dealing with the same problem, but no fix able. I found a guy who had a an app which could register the battery usage in a graph. After running the app i noticed the same as the guy from the video - my phone is pretty normal on use, but then I turn the phone on standby it goes insane (look at the picture linked below)..
I don't know how to deal with the problem. I have gone though the applist to see any remarkable apps, but nothing has cough my attention.
I hope you guy are willing to help me - Save my phone!

Wrong phone forum!!!
Here is your phone forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3
Hi, did you solved your problem?
If not, i'd recommend System Panel app. Download it, install, launch. Then go to Menu->Settings, check Enable monitoring option. Then let your phone to be in idle mode several hours - maybe before going to bed. After it - go to SP->Menu->Monitoring->History (in bottom right corner)->Press chart in top left corner->Top apps. Then you'll see top applications that worked in idle mode.
For more information go to 4pda russian forum and search "Советы по улучшению энергосбережения устройств на Android OS" thread - google translate will helps
Try This,,,,,,
I think some app is malfunctioning , i would suggest using Greenify if u r rooted ,
And if u r on Stock ROM then i would suggest u to delete or disable the BLOATWARE.
It helped me hope this was helpful
4.3 on the S3 is extremely buggy especially without Samsung's patch ( which didn't do much ). There isn't much that you can do on stock Touchwiz, except maybe flash a custom kernel. I would suggest flashing a custom rom, but that is up to you. There are many choices for custom roms here including Touchwiz, if you like it.
I've been experiencing disappointing battery life since the android 4.3 update last month on my non-LTE t-mo galaxy s3. I know there's been a lot of discussion and advice by t-mo reps on various forums, but it simply isn't accurate. The party line is "something you installed on your phone is causing increased battery drain after the 4.3 update." However, my partner and I have two identical T-mo galaxy S3's. We have entirely different sets of apps installed on our phones. As soon as we installed the 4.3 update, both of our phones started to drain rapidly faster than before the update. On 4.2 our phones would last to 50% by the end of the day (~8pm) with light to moderate use. Now they're at ~20% by the end of the day, and I can see my battery levels drop faster just while using the phone. This is totally unacceptable. I've downloaded battery monitoring apps, and no apps I've installed are draining the battery, it's the system and kernel that take up most of the cpu. People are saying it's the touchwiz additions that are causing the system to use up more cpu cycles. I refuse to do a factory reset because there's so many reports of this not doing anything. There's clearly a bug in the 4.3 update for the SG3, unless it's touchwiz as everyone seems to indicate. How can I check to see if something is causing too many wakes?
4.3 works prefect here. same battery life as with 4.0 or 4.1.
it's not the fault of 4.3.

[Q] Any custom ROM for battery hogging Galaxy Tab 3 8.0?

I have the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 (WiFi) running KitKat 4.4.2 and every time I want to use it, the battery is low even though I left it at 100%. I've been trying to improve it for quite a while now. I rooted it and removed everything I could find on the lists that's safe to remove, turned off everything I don't really need, and I have Better Battery Stats and Wakelock Detector on it as well as No Bloatware and Titanium Backup. Also removed many apps that I had installed myself that seemed to be using the battery a lot. I turn off sync and WiFi when I'm not using the tablet. My efforts have improved it but it's still not good. I've done all I know to do, and I'm at the point where I'd install a custom ROM if I could find one for it. I've done some searching and haven't found any. Can anyone tell me if there is a custom ROM that will work for this tablet? Or perhaps I can "downgrade" it back to Jellybean (which it originally came with) if I can find out where to get that ROM for it someplace (I'd prefer a custom ROM though). Any ideas?
Thanks much.
