[Q] Bluetooth Tethering 4.2.1 AT&T - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Anyone get bluetooth tethering to work on 4.2.1? Before I was using FLAPJAXX's ICS ROM and I had bluetooth tethering there. I'm now on PTMR3's Padawan ROM. I'm wondering if FLAPJAXX added it special to his ROM or if it was there in ICS and AT&T removed it from 4.2.1.
I use bluetooth tethering in a Ford Explorer with MyFord Touch. The Explorer then becomes a WiFi hotspot this way. You might be asking, why not just use the WiFi hotspot on my Note. Well when we travel I use Google Maps a lot and it works better with WiFi on and I can't have WiFi on if it's being used as a hotspot.
Thanks!

Android made a change in version 4.1.2 that allows carriers like at&t to tell the difference between regular data, and tethered data. So if you don't have the tethering plan you won't be able to tether.
However some devs have bypassed this in custom roms. There's also apps available that re-enable the tethering feature. You'll have to either find a rom, or an app to get your tether back. I use an app called "power toggles" to add a tether on/off widget.

I'd like a more stable rom for tethering. (I'm on Bamf 3.0/MR2)

Right now I'm on BAMF Sense 3.0 Gingerbread using MR2 radio (MR1 had no service) and every time I hook up USB and hit "Share internet with PC", I drop 3G and 4G and don't even get 1x. It's irritating.
And when I use Wifi Hotspot built in application, I get very very shaky consistency. If the screen turns off, 4G drops. After 10-15 seconds, 4G resets.
One of the primary reasons I traded my iPhone for a Thunderbolt was to bypass the need for a cable modem but I'm having no such luck.
Can anyone recommend a rom that has 100% stability with tethering? I'd prefer Wifi tethering but I'll settle for USB tethering as long as it works as well as it did on any other HTC Android phone I've used.
And yes, I've tried Barnacle and no, I do not like it.
Try Wifi Tether.

I love it and it works fantastic for me.
I just found Wireless Tether and I'm giving it a shot. Aside from tethering issues, BAMF 3.0 is a great rom so I'd hate to move away from it.
I'm surprised Verizon found a way to block Wireless Tether from Market. They sure are getting ahead in their game! So far I haven't had any drops! *knocks wood*
It's funny that some rooted app on market is better at tethering than Verizon's own hotspot feature. You'd think if they want people to pay for it, the least they can do is make their app the best for it.
I always find apps created by independent programmers seem to be the best anyway. The features of Wifi-Tether are awesome too, you can change the SSID, enable encryption, and manually enable or disable devices from connecting to your hotspot. Cant beat all that for functionality.
i use SYNERGY 3.0 latest nighty with the wireless tether app and dont' have your issues. as far as i know, this is the only GB rom that doesn't have this problem. all froyo roms worked perfectly for me. with the stock kernel it came with and mr2 radio.
WiFi Tether for the win. I used it just yesterday to DL a 500mb disc img.
CM7's USB Tethering works great for me.

+1 to that. Running BAMF 3.0 RC4 MR2.5. Using wifi tether. works great. If you cant find the wifi tether on the market, just put your phone in airplane mode and use wifi to connect then go back to market and search wifi tether for root.
I am using this version of WiFi Tether ... http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta1.apk&can=2&q=
I have found in order to get a stable connection, if you go into Settings and scroll down under the LAN option ... there will be a checkbox for Routing fix. Once I turned that on, my connection has be very stable.
Hope this works for you.

[Q] build.prop edit to enable tethering on HTC Vivid?

I have an HTC Vivid running Gingerbread 2.3.4. I see that in other versions I can edit the build.prop to bypass AT&T's tethering block, but none of the language in my file read anything close to the previous files.
The device is rooted and I have an editor. I also have downloaded apps that tether (and work, currently) but they only tether through wifi and I'd like to bypass it all together so that I can connect via USB, wifi or BT.
Anyone figured this out yet?

Try clockworkmod tethering app.
How
How do you have the wifi tether working? I am rooted also and I've tried tons and tons of wifi tether apps such as barnacle and wifi tether. Neither work. To answer your question though, easy tether products works fine for us tethering. I would be very greatly if you could help me wifi tether. You don't pay for it do you?
Ummmmm, nevermind lol. I just read another post that had the property settings for android wifi tether. I'm super happy now. I've been trying to this forever!
Thanks xda!

Tethering and DZK's [latest] CM10 - please help

First off, thanks to DZK for continuing to support the Droid X2 community even though his phone is toast
I just have a real simple question... Is there any way to set up a wifi tether because obviously the built in isn't working. FoxFi doesn't seem to work either. Aside from WiFi Tether for Root Users (my Galaxy Tab with ICS doesn't support ad-hoc) are there any options? Would it be possible to insert an older wifi module/driver/etc into the rom to make built in tethering work? I really want to use this rom as my daily driver but this one hang up is pretty significant to me Oh and I have applied the wifi fix to the latest release so my normal wifi connectivity is working. Hope somebody can help thanks!
I use Barnacle WiFi Tether and it works great for me.
Sent from my MB870 using xda app-developers app
FoxFi also works
FoxFi hangs while attempting to enable WiFi (even though enabling WiFi myself works fine).
I currently use EasyTether Pro and it works very well.

[Q] HTC Evo V WiFi Hotspot No Internet Access

Hello
I recently flashed this ROM onto my HTC Evo V:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2098121
It's been amazing so far, much better than the stock sense ROM. The only problem I am facing is that I am unable to get the wireless hotspot to work correctly. I previously had Harmonia ROM installed and the WiFi tether app that came with it worked just fine. Now on the CyanogenMod ROM I am using the built in hotspot without much luck. All client devices I have tried have been able to connect to the hotspot but are unable to receive any Internet access. My Windows PCs mark the connection as having 'limited access'. I have tested the hotspot with both the 3G and 4G on my phone without any luck.
I'm not sure what to try next, I would really like to have the wireless hotspot working again. Does anyone have any ideas that I could try? Thanks!
Wifi Tether only works on Sense 3.6 Roms.
AOSP and Sense 4/4+ Roms do NOT support WiFi tether.
Eventually the issue will be solved.

Thanks for the reply! I look forward to when I can use the built in tether but until then I actually got it to work using the PdaNet+ app from the market!

WiFI Tether/hotspot Options

Hello everyone,
I am trying to gain some general knowledge about the current state of tethering on android in general but more specifically for my situation on a unlimited data plan on Verizon on a Samsung S4 i545. I'm currently at Android 5.0.1 on OF1.
From what I have gathered so far there are two basic ways of doing wifi tethering these days.
1) Mod the built in tethering application so not to check with Verizon for the tethering plan.
2) Install an app that uses it's own or iptables type of network routing to do the tethering.
3) tethering apps that don't need root (ie FoxFi)
First off if there are more options that I'm not aware of please let me know.
I would like to "fly under the radar" as much as possible being that I'm on a grandfathered unlimited plan. This leads me to believe that using a app that does routing would be a better option. I have tried many of the free apps in the app store and most do not work with my setup.
I believe the following apps are apps that actually do routing.
"WiFi Tether Router", "WiFi Tethering by OpenGarden", "Barnacle WiFi Tether", "WiFi tether" (also known as Wireless tether for Root Users or android-wifi-tether)
I have root but I can't get any of these to work. (with the exception of WiFi Tether Router as I haven't actually tried that app because it's a pay app)
Other options are installing mods that modify the built in app tether app like
I545_OF1_tetherAddOn.zip
And last the option of running an app like FoxFi that doesn't require root. and looks like it is using some kind of VPN to get around tethering? not sure how this works or where it stands but I think it's also using the built in tethering app and just somehow bypassing the Verizon server that checks for a tethering subscription.
if anyone could help shed some light on how these apps are working I could then decide at what level of exposure I was comfortable with. As of right now and my limited knowledge of how they work I think an app like WiFi Tether Router (if it works would be worth the purchase)
Thanks,
Chris

You should look for the WiFi Tether Router paid app apk online, i have the same problem with WiFi Tether, and also flashed the I545_OF1_tetherAddOn.zip and still no result, so I'm going to look for the app's downloadable apk link and share it with you, I'm also going to try it ☺☺

I'm wondering what can help us with WiFi Tethering too, so I tried a lot of apps and methods and nothing worked, the only tethering I was able to get was USB with FoxFi, tbh works really nice, even better than my home internet, I'm foreign so I cannot enjoy 4g on this phone but still got a pretty much decent speed, it's not WiFi tether but it doesn't bother me because works really nice. Still will try to find any other alternative to get WiFi tether but for now FoxFi USB tether seems to be our best option
thanks for getting back to me on this.
Again I'm not just looking for a solution to my specific situation but rather trying to gather information on how the different methods and approaches work. I feel as if I only have a slight understanding of how each approach works. I'm pretty curious to what all the VPN stuff is about that some of the non root apps are doing.
WiFi tether router by Fabio works also for USB tethering KLINK works with option "mimic mobile device" set to on both paid for apps.
A little feedback about Foxfi:
I didn't wanted to connect my galaxy to the pc so I decided to try WiFi tethering and it worked! just follow the instructions it gives you and it will work, if you wanna change WiFi name or password do it from Foxfi, default tether manager just turn off tether and doesn't change anything
Thanks mahn
