Charges from the wall?
And a rather dumb question but
The laptop is on and not in standby? Or you are using a port that provides power in standby?

Hi everyone, i' ve be en looking an answer to my problem from a long time i've looked in almost every related post, but nothing...
When i plug in my phone (to a wall charger or to a pc with ye USB cable) the phone says "charging" but you can leave it liket thar for hours
and nothing happens, i have tried a lot of things :
-make sure the charger is good
-coneccting with diferent cables
-change the rom and kernel (a lot of times)
-even i replace the USB port
But nothing of that seems to work... Have anyone an idea of what culd be the problem?
Thanks a lot
I had a similar problem where I plugged my phone in and it said charging but after half an hour I'd lost 1% I changed to an iPhone plug and the supplied USB cable and this has solved the problem for me (I looked at the micro USB end of the plug and USB and one of the pins in the micro USB was missing from the plug) However you said changed cables and plugs so don't know however issue sounds similar

How on earth are u going to use ipone cable to charge yr sgs2. what he meant is the charger not the cable. Since u ve use different charger and cable and even replacing the usb port, i think its the board issue which means u may ve to replace the main board. Only thing u can do is get a desktop chargerand another spare battery.
irstingi them

Im sorry I meant IPhone plug not the cable, actually I have what you say a spare battery, but I want to fix the problem anyway
Try putting your battery on another sii. See if it charges then.
You can also use a dock or charge it manually.

There's something wrong with my PC,it gives me electric shock when I touch the case. And when I connect my usb cable with it,I can feel the electric shock on the other end.Once I plug the cable in my gs3,I can feel the electric shock on the pins that connect with the battery. That's the only place I feel it since the gs3 is luckily made of plastic.I don't want to repair my PC because I will be changing it soon anyways,I'm only worried on my phone. Can this damage it in any way ? I have been doing it for a month and nothing happened but I'm afraid something would happen,I don't keep it for long times(only when I need to transfer files). If it can damage it,can I somehow stop it from charging when connected to my PC ?

i guess you pc doesn't have an earth connection :-/
My old flat had that problem. The wiring in your home might be the issue. Changing PC wont help it.
As far as connecting your phone, well, I never had an issue (charging, flashing, adb'ing).
New verb to adb.

Well,I use the same wall socket for other purposes other than connecting my PC's power supply cord and I never had any problems.Highly unlikely it is something wrong with my house's electricity + this only started happening a month ago,I guess it's something with my PC's PSU.Good to know it didn't cause any problems to your device.

Not really as functional as USB but I guess I have to deal with it till I change my PC,better safe than sorry.
I'm pretty sure it's not the computer since I can detect other peoples S3 , and already tried it on several PC's ( kies and different drivers too)
is there a possibility of a busted USB port ? even though it still charges , but nothing appears in the device manager
Connect it to the PC in Download Mode to install some drivers automatically. So I understood it will work. For me it didn't work in like first week I bought it. Then, I was charging it on my PC for like half an hour and then it connected by itself. First days I connected it rzisted more nd more connected. Let's say like a car when you start it and push on the trothle. It goes more and more until you can go how long you want. Try via Download first then come back and report

Get a toothpick and clean your USB port on the phone. Had a problem that was similar to yours caused by dust .
That might be the problem.

Yes, because data uses other pins than charging does.
I have an other question, does your phone give -any- feadback at all when plugged in to a computer? Did you try a different usb cable?

connect the phone in download mode and observe if the odin detects it..
also try flashing any file through it(say recovery) and see if the transfer works.
if it does ..no issues with the usb , go for the pc then.

hmm funny thing though , I tried connecting a USB OTG cable with a usb drive
my s3 detects the cable but disconnects after 2-3 seconds
Just got the Nexus 9 a couple of days ago, charged it, but when I connected it to the computer, nothing, it's not detected at all. Tried both a Mac and Windows laptop.
I tried a different cable and it works fine with that, just not with the stock HTC cable.
What's going on here? Busted cable? I assume it's not a charge only cable, that wouldn't make much sense. Could it be that the cable doesn't like the USB3 ports?
are yo on modified kernel with fast charge enabled? if so, please disable it.

No, just stock rooted. As I said, other cables work fine, but not the stock HTC cable, so it is the cable, not the tablet or the computers/drivers, etc.
ahh I'm sorry i missed that. anyway, surely it was a faulty cable.

I'm more curious if anyone else has run into something similar, incompatibilities between a cable and a USB3 port.

Just in case you haven't tried this...When connected to your computer, tap on the USB notification on your Nexus. You will then get more options, one of which is "Transfer Files".

I know. It makes no difference, the tablet simply doesn't show up. As I said above, I know how to use other cables and they work And yes, not a fan that M defaults to charging only every time and have to manually put it in MTP mode.

No luck needed, just a different 99c cable
Just to bring closure to this thread, I contacted HTC and they finally sent me a replacement charger and cable even though I only asked for the cable (not because I didn't already have a pile of USB cables around but because I was curious whether there was something wrong with the HTC cable I received with my N9 or just an incompatibility). The new cable I received works fine for both data and charging. So the cable that came in the box was bad. But to my surprise the new charger I got also works much better, it chargers faster (I have a USB dongle that I can measure the charging current with). The original charger was capable to only charge the N9 but not other devices which I found weird.
So something went really wrong with the included charger and cable. How can it be that you have both a bad charger and cable in the same box? I can see one being bad, but both? Makes me wonder what I should expect from the tablet itself ... Doesn't look like quality is top priority at HTC, no wonder the company is not doing well at all.

Yes. I am having this same issue and I am using the original charger. What happens is, I plugin the phone and it says "Fast Charging", then about 2 seconds later it make the plugin sound again and switches to slow charging.

Had this start happening to mine, figured it might be the cord, but it also no longer works with my Gear VR either. My screen was cracked so I sent it in for repair, hoping it comes back working.
